No foolin', we're back with the April episode of Good, but not the best... a Dancing Gnome podcast. We kick things off with a few new reviews (!!) before jumping right into Look Back, Look Ahead. Andrew tells us about his trip to Little Beer fest in Duluth, GA, we talk about Dancing Gnome's Imperial Breakfast event on 4/12 and discuss how the increase in gas/oil prices may affect breweries. Next, we are joined by longtime pal of the podcast, Aadam Soorma of Trace Brewing. It's been a while since Aadam has joined us, so we get a quick update on Trace and Trace Echo before diving into a wider ranging discussion on industry trends. Aadam sticks around for our third segment as we close out the show with another round of Watch, Listen, Learn.Intro/Outro music by: Kabbalistic VillageBreak music by: Kevin MacLeod
Leif Nummela avaa yhden Raamatun keskeisimmistä ja samalla haastavimmista teemoista: miten synti ja kuolema tulivat maailmaan yhden ihmisen kautta – ja miten armo ja elämä tulivat yhden ihmisen, Jeesuksen Kristuksen, kautta. Opetuksessa käsitellään: • Perisyntiä: mitä Raamattu opettaa ihmisen syntisyydestä syntymästä saakka • Aadam ja Kristus vastakkain: yhden tottelemattomuus ja yhden kuuliaisuus • Lain tehtävä: miten laki paljastaa synnin, mutta ei voi pelastaa • Armon ylivertaisuus: missä synti on tullut suureksi, siinä armo on tullut ylenpalttiseksi • Kaksi valtakuntaa: synnin hallinta ja armon hallinta • Kristus puolustajanamme: Jeesus rukoilee meidän puolestamme Isän edessä Opetus kutsuu kuulijaa tutkimaan itse Raamatusta, onko asia näin, ja pohtimaan elämän suurinta kysymystä: elämmekö synnin vai armon hallintavallan alla. “Niin kuin synti on hallinnut kuolemassa, samoin armokin hallitsee vanhurskauden kautta iankaikkiseksi elämäksi Jeesuksen Kristuksen, meidän Herramme, kautta.” (Room. 5:21)

Today, the Spotlight shines On musician, software engineer, and plug-in developer Aqeel Aadam.Aqeel's got deep roots in Philadelphia's music scene—his grandfather was a jazz musician who gifted him his first guitar. Aqeel Aadam is a musician, sound designer, and plugin developer blending modular synthesis with a love of nature and organic textures. Through his company, Aqeel Aadam Sound, he creates audio plugins for the curious and open-minded. He creates tools that spark inspiration rather than dictate outcomes. Aqeel and I explore the connection between nature and synthesis, the power of limitations in creativity, and how modular gear shapes his sonic world. We talk about learning through struggle, designing plugins that encourage play over perfection, and finding joy in the unpredictable. Aqeel shares his story of learning guitar from his jazz-guitarist grandfather, discovering modular synthesis in college, and developing a suite of expressive, visually rich plugins like Ridgewalk, Waymaker, and Weeping Wall. Listen on Apple | Spotify | YouTube Takeaways: Plugins for the Curious & Open-Minded – Aqeel designs tools that prioritize exploration over precision, encouraging musicians to discover unexpected results through experimentation. Modular Meets Nature – His music and visual plugin interfaces reflect his deep love of nature and organic textures, merging the electronic and the natural in both form and function. Learning Through Struggle – From self-teaching guitar to building plugins, Aqeel embraces the idea that struggling through something is essential to meaningful learning. Designing for Musical Flow – Rather than overloading plugins with technical features, Aqeel focuses on simplicity, usability, and play, so musicians can stay in the creative zone. From Guitar to Eurorack – His journey from jazz guitar to modular synths and plugin development reflects a wide-ranging approach to music-making and sound design. Improvisation as Composition – Aqeel's performances and recordings often begin with semi-generative modular systems, allowing spontaneity to guide structure and form. Inspiration Over Information – His plugins don't just process sound—they invite interaction and interpretation, helping users find their voice through curiosity. Contextual Composition – Like an impressionist painter, Aqeel aims to place abstract textures into recognizable musical frameworks that resonate emotionally. Visual Interfaces Matter – From growing circular meters to mountainous visualizers, Aqeel's plugins look as fun as they sound—inviting creators to explore without intimidation. Building an Ecosystem – With plugins like Waymaker interacting with his other tools, Aqeel is creating a modular digital environment where small ideas lead to big creative breakthroughs. Soon after his second job… he was fired! A moment of relief and freedom was what he felt, not sure what his mother felt when he told her he was jobless at 23…He then went in search of a more ethical path, a business he could set up where the reward was equal to the work put in. “If they are making pounds, why am I making pennies?” - was his thought process, not happy with slow progression and bureaucracy (& having to wear smart shoes everyday). This lead him to opening a Recruitment business (not sure where the ethics went) which doubled in profit every year, for 4 years. He hated it. Golden handcuffs they call it.Fortunately, he used the cash he'd built up from that business, to educate himself in Property Investing. Soon, he'd stopped the business and transitioned into Property Investment full time. He then had a slow start -Purchasing 15 properties in his first 9 months, using over £650,000 of Investor Finance, he built a £1,200,000 property portfolio and created £30,000 of profit from flips. This gave him ‘financial freedom', but it was the most stressful period of his life. Growing quickly is very painful. He recently made £95,000 from two flips.Let's not forget that his Podcast grew to be the most-reviewed UK Property Podcast, peaking at 4,000 unique downloads per episode. His Podcast (Tej Talks) now sits at 800,000 downloads in over 120 countries and has 500 reviews, rated 5/5.Tej InvestsTej TalkseLearning Hosted on Acast. Tune in for the latest Drinking Partners podcast as Ed and Day chat with Cinderlands head brewer Paul Schneider and Trace Brewing's Head of Marketing Aadam Soorma about their newest collaboration: Pittsburgh Mixed Culture (www.pghmixedculture.com). This saison-centric festival will feature breweries from across the country and Belgium by, “bringing dozens of world-class brewers together … to demonstrate our love for the Belgian brewing traditions that inspire us, make a clear connection between local agriculture and beer, showcase fermentation-driven beer, and highlight the complementary roles of brewer and nature in making mixed-fermentation beer.” The July 30th event will take place at Freedom Farms in Valencia, PA. Spontaneous comments from Ed and Day pair well with Paul's detailed explanation of the spontaneous process of mixed culture brewing in Day's favorite type of conversation: edutainment. This rare to Pittsburgh style gets to shine with its own festival, although Ed's suggestion that an essay praising saison be a requirement was not accepted. The conversation around mixed culture craft brewing is ripe with knowledge and will turn the average beer fan into an aficionado, but don't worry if you get confused, as Ed admits. Listen in until the closing minutes to hear Drinking Partners advice on how to conquer a beer festival and make plans to check out Pittsburgh Mixed Culture Fest on July 30 at Freedom Farms.

This week, I sit down with the one and only, Aadam Soorma. Aadam is the head of Marketing and Guest Experience at Bloomfield's own, Trace Brewing. I first learned of Aadam through his previous work with Very Local and all the other great events he's been apart of throughout the city. When we finally met at the Half Assed Beer Share I told him we need to make it happen. This week, Aadam stops by the studio with a few beers and we learn a little about who he is, how he fell in love with this world, and all the good things the team is doing over at Trace Brewing. A great episode with another great person doing great things in the city.
