This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! When Roger and Carolyn Perron moved their five daughters onto a sprawling 200‑acre Rhode Island farm in 1970, the previous owner offered only one piece of advice: “Leave the lights on at night.” What followed became one of the most chilling real‑life hauntings ever recorded—later inspiring the blockbuster film The Conjuring. For nearly ten years the Perrons shared their home with entities from every fold of time: mournful children, unseen hands, and the vengeful spirit the family came to call “Bathsheba.” Doors slammed, beds levitated, and history itself seemed to bleed through the walls. In this episode, Andrea Perron—eldest daughter and author of House of Darkness | House of Light—recounts the true events the movie only hinted at: the séances, the midnight battles for control of a mother's soul, and the moment they finally realized the dead were not leaving. This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! This is the true story of what occurred to the real-life family portrayed in The Conjuring. In June of 1970, Andrea Perron's family found a glorious farm and then moved mountains to buy what was known as the old Arnold Estate: 200 acres of land with a big barn and a farmhouse, plenty of space to spread out and explore nature. It was the perfect place to raise a family, according to the owner, though he failed to disclose a crucial element of his experience as an occupant. He told her father the day they moved in: “…leave the lights on at night.” A rather cryptic message. Thus began an incredible odyssey, a supernatural excursion through dimensions of time and space as the history of its characters from the ages began to reveal themselves to seven mortals who could not conceive of and never anticipated such events transpiring in our lives. Portions of their story would later be turned into the blockbuster movie The Conjuring. For almost a decade, her family lived among the dead. They came to understand that we are not alone and there is something beyond mortal existence. About Andrea Perron My name is Andrea Perron. I am the eldest daughter of Roger & Carolyn Perron. My birthdate: October 10, 1958...the only one of five siblings to be born in Rhode Island. I was just two months old when my parents bought our first home in Willimantic, Connecticut, where all my sisters came into the world. A burgeoning family required more space so we bought a larger home in Cumberland, R.I. when I was six. Living in a suburb of Providence proved disquieting. After six years my mother decided her girls required a place in the country in which to grow and thrive. In June of 1970 she found a glorious farm, then she and my father moved mountains to buy what was known as the old Arnold Estate; two-hundred acres of land with a big barn and a farmhouse; plenty of space to spread out and explore Nature. It was the perfect place to raise a family, according to the owner, though he failed to disclose a crucial element of the experience he endured as an occupant. The day we moved in, he told my father: "...leave the lights on at night." A rather cryptic message. Thus began an incredible odyssey; a supernatural excursion through dimensions of time and space as the history of its characters from the ages began to reveal themselves to seven mortals who could not conceive of and never anticipated such events transpiring in our lives. For almost a decade our family lived among the dead. There we came to understand that we are not alone and there is something beyond mortal existence. I graduated from high school in 1976 and attended Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Graduating in 1980 with an interdisciplinary degree in Philosophy and English, it was during my senior year when my mother announced the sale of the farm was pending. I was heart broken. In spite of the trials, it was "home" and I loved it. Returning to Rhode Island, we were there only a few weeks before relocating to Georgia; long enough to pack and say goodbye. It was over. Though we abandoned our place in the country, it never left us. Memory is powerful. I've spent my life since engaging in a variety of endeavors. Georgia did not suit me. After seven years I went home to R.I. Though I have always been a writer, I have likewise explored my own creative abilities. As a professional singer, songwriter, musician and actor, my time has been full of adventures and interesting characters. For more than twenty years I was a cast member with The Theatre Company of Rhode Island, performing on the stage of The Assembly Theater, the historic centerpiece of Harrisville. For the last ten years I lived in R.I. I was employed as a youth counselor at Harmony Hill School in Chepachet and lived in the village of Harmony, in a quaint cottage on Waterman Lake, also known as paradise on a pond. In 2007 I began writing the manuscript which has now evolved into the trilogy "House of Darkness House of Light" and relocated (again) to Georgia to be with my family while embarking on such a major project involving all of them as well. It has proved to be quite an excursion in its own right, spawning some nightmares while exhuming our memories of the dead. Often painful, it has been a healing process as well, as each revisited a past impacting our present, clearly mapping the future of a family. There was no escaping unscathed, though we thought we has successfully done so at the time. This is a story whose time has come. Many have spoken or written about fragments of the story for decades. Now is the time to tell the whole truth about what happened in a house alive with death as we lived an illuminating decade of life. It is a tale worth telling because it is true. Time has come because we are ready to disclose our secrets and the world is ready to receive them. Built in 1736 in Harrisville, Rhode Island, the 3100-square-foot home still carries its strong foundation and style. This three-bedroom and two-bath house, named as Arnold Estate, had faced a lot. From wars to relentless storms, this house has seen it all. In December of 1970, Roger and Carolyn Perron decided to move into Arnold Estate with their five daughters. Unfortunately for the Perrons, the house they bought, came with a dark history. Initially, the Perron family had no idea about the hauntings or spirits that resided in their home. But once they realized this, they started searching and asking around and that's when they found out the real story behind the house. "For the sake of your family, keep the lights on.." #2110 In 1970 the Perron family moved into a new home on a beautiful farm in Harrisville, Rhode Island. Little did they know they had walked into, what one daughter of the family calls, a "spiritual portal". Craig and David unwind the haunting tale of the Arnold Estate, the inspiration behind the 2013 film "The Conjuring", as we continue our Halloween theme at the beginning of fall. Our goal in covering the story of the Perron family's experience while living for a decade at the Arnold Estate, the inspiration for the motion picture, The Conjuring, was to uncover the real story behind the persistent hauntings. What we discovered once again was the actual truths at the heart of this, and other famous cases are as murky and nebulous as the spirits that do the haunting. The question that remains is, what is truth and what is real when it comes to supernatural activity? Skeptical researcher and writer Kenny Biddle investigated the historical people that the Perrons thought may have been the entities that lingered in their home. He found inconsistencies between the records of the lives and deaths of named locals and their claimed involvement with the farmhouse. But the attempt to cast doubt on the Perron story by focusing on historical inaccuracies is to go at the problem in an understandably linear, causal fashion, perhaps not one taken by a paranormal investigator. This leads us to the question, can the supernatural be analyzed with earthly rational thinking? For example, does a person have to die in the same place that their ghost supposedly haunts (if one even believes in ghosts), or can they move about freely? Can spirits visit only some individuals or occupants, or would they have to haunt everyone in the same space equally? Can spirits identify as something they're not, or do they have to tell the truth about who or what they are? What are the rules for something so mysterious? While many of us would like to apply standard logic to understanding the numen world, those that have experienced it might tell you no ordinary rationale matters. Despite the "facts," what they have witnessed was real and true enough. Visit our website for a whole lot more information on this website, and seriously, we're talking a LOT more.
Whether you're a fan of horror films or not, you've probably heard of the 2013 motion picture, "The Conjuring." This film, starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, struck such a chord with viewers that it spawned a franchise of related films like The Conjuring sequels, The Nun, Annabelle, and The Curse of La Llorona. But the initial movie was inspired by real-life events, the roughly decade-long hauntings of the Perron family that started the moment they moved into the Arnold Estate in 1970, now called "The Farm on Round Top Road" in Harrisville, Rhode Island. The colonial farmhouse, built circa 1736, would be home to 9 generations of families, including the Perrons. It seems some of the residents would never be able to leave, and some new and terrifying entities would make an unwelcome appearance during the Perron occupancy. While a few of the spirits were viciously malevolent, some were benevolent, and Andrea Perron, the eldest daughter, comprehensively chronicled the entire experience in a three-volume set of books titled House of Darkness House of Light: The True Story. While Andrea loved the cinematic adaptation of her family's story in the film, she also realizes that a movie has its own set of rules for narrative compression. Its purpose is to entertain efficiently, and therefore was only "one percent of one percent of what actually happened at the farm." Also, the famous paranormal investigative couple, Ed and Lorraine Warren were only a lesser element to the overall story. So what were some of the more frightening yet fascinating occurrences that happened to the Perrons at clearly one of the most active haunted houses still in existence that most of us have never heard? Join us tonight for part one of our examination of the true story behind "The Conjuring." Visit our website for a whole lot more information on this website, and seriously, we're talking a LOT more.
The original film of The Conjuring franchise was inspired by a centuries-old Rhode Island property. Built in 1736, the Old Arnold Estate was allegedly once the home of a satanic witch. When the Perron family moved into the home in 1973, they reawakened her spirit — and famed paranormal experts Ed and Lorraine Warren showed up to investigate. Learn more about your ad choices. Roger and Carolyn Perron purchased the home of their dreams and eventual nightmares in December of 1970. The Arnold Estate, located just beyond the village of Harrisville, Rhode Island seemed the idyllic setting in which to raise a family. The couple moved their five young daughters into the ancient and mysterious farmhouse. Secrets were kept and then revealed within a space shared by mortal and immortal alike. Time suddenly became irrelevant; fractured by spirits making their presence known then dispersing into the ether. The house is a portal to the past and a passage to the future. Time has come because we are ready to disclose our secrets and the world is ready to receive them. http://www.houseofdarknesshouseoflight.com/
Andrea Perron Andrea Perron is the author of the trilogy "House of Darkness House of Light". These books chronicle the life she shared with dead and living alike in a Colonial era farmhouse in Harrisville, R.I. The Perron family purchased the farmhouse in 1970 and spent the next ten years discovering that good and evil are in a perpetual state of war and there is something beyond our mortal existence. Born in 1958, at the age of twelve her parents purchased the Arnold Estate, beginning an incredible journey beyond the realm of reality as most perceive it to be. A collective memoir, it details the encounters experienced by each and every member of her family. Seven mere mortals spent a decade exploring the vast expanse of possibilities which exist beyond the five senses, employing the sixth for clarity. Andrea received an interdisciplinary degree in English & philosophy from Chatham College in 1980 and two weeks later, left the farm with her family, moving to Georgia in June of that year. She has since owned two businesses and spent nearly a decade as a counselor before abandoning her career to tell this story, to write the books she believes she was destined to write. She lives quietly with her mother in rural Georgia where she continues her work, as the final manuscript is poised for publication in October 2013. She is a human rights advocate, an animal rights activist and an outspoken member of the world community which she insists needs to be saved from themselves. Her story on which the film "The Conjuring" was based, was in the investigative case files of Ed and Lorraine Warren. Visit Perron's YouTube channel & website for more information.
Visit us at www.paranormalunderground.net! In this episode of Paranormal Underground Radio, we get the true story behind the movie The Conjuring. We talk with Andrea Perron, the eldest daughter of Roger and Carolyn Perron. She has four sisters: Nancy, Christine, Cynthia, and April. Andrea joins us to talk about the movie The Conjuring, the real-life events, and how the family lived through an extreme haunting. She also will discuss her book about the haunting, House of Darkness, House of Light. Andrea's own words follow: "In June of 1970, my mother found a glorious farm. Then she and my father moved mountains to buy what was known as the old Arnold Estate -- 200 acres of land with a big barn and a farmhouse, plenty of space to spread out and explore nature. It was the perfect place to raise a family, according to the owner, though he failed to disclose a crucial element of the experience he endured as an occupant. The day we moved in, he told my father: “Leave the lights on at night.” A rather cryptic message. Thus began an incredible odyssey -- a supernatural excursion through dimensions of time and space as the history of its characters from the ages began to reveal themselves to seven mortals who could not conceive of and never anticipated such events transpiring in our lives. "For almost a decade, our family lived among the dead. I was heartbroken. In spite of the trials, it was “home” and I loved it. Returning to Rhode Island, we were there only a few weeks before relocating to Georgia, long enough to pack and say goodbye. It was over. Though we abandoned our place in the country, it never left us. Memory is powerful. "I’ve spent my life since engaging in a variety of endeavors. Georgia did not suit me. After seven years I went home to R.I. Though I have always been a writer, I have likewise explored my own creative abilities. As a professional singer, songwriter, musician and actor, my time has been full of adventures and interesting characters. For more than twenty years, I was a cast member with The Theatre Company of Rhode Island, performing on the stage of The Assembly Theater, the historic centerpiece of Harrisville. For the last 10 years I lived in R.I., I was employed as a youth counselor at Harmony Hill School in Chepachet and lived in the village of Harmony in a quaint cottage on Waterman Lake, also known as paradise on a pond. "In 2007 I began writing the manuscript, which has now evolved into the trilogy House of Darkness House of Light and relocated (again) to Georgia to be with my family while embarking on such a major project involving all of them as well. It has proved to be quite an excursion in its own right, spawning some nightmares while exhuming our memories of the dead. Often painful, it has been a healing process as well, as each revisited a past impacting our present, clearly mapping the future of a family. There was no escaping unscathed, though we thought we had successfully done so at the time. This is a story whose time has come. Many have spoken or written about fragments of the story for decades.
