I'm pleased to share this #mini episode with Maria Souza, a Comparative Mythologist, Poet, and Educator, and founder of Women & Mythology. As we name in the conversation, we've known about each other for some time and appreciated each others' work from afar. Just as Robert Bly's ‘Iron John' is the book that ignited the mythopoetic men's movement, so too, does Clarissa Pinkola Estés's book ‘Women Who Run With The Wolves' occupy that position for women.Maria shares how her journey with myth began has evolved into her podcast, along with courses that bring mythopoetic depth into the lived experience of women today. We touch on iconic stories like La Loba, Seal Skin/Soul Skin, and La Llorona—each a mirror of feminine initiation, creativity, and soul recovery. In this tradition, myth isn't escape - it's a way of waking up, a path to gather the scattered bones of the psyche (and culture) and sing them back to life. Send us a textEver feel like Halloween says more about us than the costumes do? We kick off with a quick platform cleanup and jump straight into a lively Halloween special full of laughter, strong opinions, and the kinds of stories that stick. From a spoiler-light take on Shelby Oaks to a rapid-fire tour of modern horror—The Nun, La Llorona, The Boogeyman, Evil Dead Rise, and even animated gateway chills like Monster House—we compare what scares us on screen to what unsettles us in real life. The candy segment turns into its own saga. Pillowcases reign as the ultimate trick-or-treat bag. Reese's Cups take the crown, while Starburst, Skittles, Kit Kat, and Twix battle for runner-up. Candy corn catches strays, black licorice splits the room, and boutique sweets like Ferrero Rocher and Lindor get side-eye for being pricey but undeniably good. We trade memories of the “parent tax,” freezer stashes, and the trades that defined our childhood Halloween economy.Things get real on the curb. One of us becomes the “get off my yard” neighbor after kids shortcut across a corner-lot rockscape, which sparks a talk about respect, boundaries, and how we teach community norms. We also rethink trick-or-treat etiquette: full costumes versus teens with empty bags, and why a little grace can keep kids safe and included. Between fast-food detours—Wendy's spicy nuggets, KFC honey barbecue wings, and a PSA against a regrettable steak nugget—we find the throughline: Halloween blends nostalgia, humor, and the rules we live by when no one's watching.Hit play for an honest, funny, and surprisingly thoughtful ride through horror picks, candy rankings, and neighborhood ethics. If you smile, nod, or yell at your phone at least once, share the episode with a friend, subscribe, and drop your top three candies in a review. We're ready to argue with you in the best way. Thanks for listening to the Nobody's Talking Podcast. The hosts dive into Jayro Bustamante's La Llorona, a Guatemalan ghost story that mixes political horror, folklore, and slow-burn dread. They dig into the film's deliberate pacing, eerie atmosphere, and its echoes of Pan's Labyrinth and Stalker. The conversation flows through themes of guilt, justice, and revenge, with plenty of appreciation for the film's striking visuals, long takes, and unforgettable performances. La Llorona's curse lingers through history like a whisper in the dark, making this 95-minute gem a perfect, spine-tingling way to kick off Season 5. It's the chilling conclusion of All Horror October, and we're going out with a bilingual scream! This week, we plunge into Spanish-language horror, where ghosts cry, kids see too much, and grief has subtitles. Joining us at the haunted roundtable is Josh Deleon, who helps us navigate two haunting modern classics: Tigers Are Not Afraid (2017) — the grim fairy tale that'll punch you right in the feels — and La Llorona (2019), not to be confused with The Curse of La Llorona (also 2019)… because this one's actually good. We toast the end of spooky season with one last Oktoberfest — the malty, magical brew from Ayinger — before cracking open not one, but two Pumpkinators from Saint Arnold Brewing: the 2024 original and the 2025 Bourbon Barrel-Aged beast. It's a pumpkin showdown so rich and boozy, you might start crying “¡Ay, mi hígado!” So light a candle, say a prayer, and pour yourself something dark and haunted. This week's Beer and a Movie has everything — political ghosts, streetwise orphans, and the kind of beer lineup that'll make the undead jealous.

«¿Dónde están mis niños?»My new Youtube channel: Spanish with Dennishttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQVuRUMQGwtzBIp1YAImQFQMy new Discord server and chat and you can already join and write to me there:https://discord.gg/HWGrnmTmyCMy new Telegram channel and you can already join and write to me or comment there:https://t.me/SpanishwithDennisJoin my Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/spanishwithdennisSupport me by joining my podcasts supporter club on Spreaker:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/slow-spanish-language--5613080/supportDonate with Boosty:https://boosty.to/spanishwithdennis/donateDonate with Donation Alerts:https://www.donationalerts.com/r/dennisespinosaDonate with Crypto currency:Bitcoin (BTC)1DioiGPAQ6yYbEgcxEFRxWm5hZJcfLG9V6USDT (ERC20)0xeb8f678c0b8d37b639579662bf653be762e60855USDT (TRC20)TXoQwsaiTGBpWVkyeigApLT8xC82rQwRCNEthereum (ETH)0xeb8f678c0b8d37b639579662bf653be762e60855If you have any other suggestions or recommendations on what other platform you can support me and my podcasts, please let me know. In the popular telling, La Llorona is a ghost. She's the spirit of a woman who haunts watery places, wailing for her lost children. But as with all stories, the meaning of the myth has changed over time and many people now see La Llorona as a protector. For spooky October, we explore the ghostly myth that frightens children and the more empowering version of the legend. Dan's first supposedly true supernatural tales comes to us from Tennessee  where we explore the legend of the White Bluff Screamer.  After that, we'll travel to the end of the 16th century, where in what is now Germany, a man named Peter Stumpp, living in the small farming town of Bedburg , was once tortured and killed after confessing to being a murderous werewolf.
Finally, we'll stay in the not-so-forgotten past, and explore England's 1612 Pendle Witch Trials—the deadliest witch trials in English history and a precursor to the Salem Witch Trials here in America. Then, Lulu Marie shares a little head scratcher. A new mom is wondering if she has a ghost or if it's her mom or if its her postpartum depression messing with her. Lastly, we head to Bulgaria for a local legend and modern day encounter. STDP Fan Stories Book #6: Don't forget! Today is the day! Annabelle's your books went on sale at 12 noon today!
