In this week's episode, Sandra talks about the history of the Nutcracker. Originated in Germany in the mid 17th century, Nutcrackers were designed as toy soldiers and believed to be protectors of the house against malevolent spirits. Today they are more commonly used as decorations, and are most known for being featured in the beloved ballet entitled "The Nutcracker." Later, Danielle covers a dark and sinister crime that took place on December 24, 1881. The Ashland Tragedy occurred in Ashland, Kentucky when three teenagers were murdered. Robert and Fannie Gibbons and Emma Carico were found dead by neighbors who ran over to the Gibbons household after spotting it ablaze. The community of Ashland felt horrified by the brutality of this crime. Were the right men put behind bars? We made it through another "Holi-slay" season. Today we close out our holiday specials with a potential Oregon serial killer and a Kentucky tragedy from 1881.O'Dell kicks things off with an apology to Erin for thoroughly messing up her story last week, and then shares the story of Kaye Turner - a woman who went missing on Christmas Eve in 1978. Kaye's body was found eight months later, but the case would remain cold until July 1990, when 13-year-old Rachanda Pickle went missing, and authorities realized they may be dealing with a serial killer.Erin then discusses a case known as the Ashland Tragedy. In 1881, three teenagers were brutally murdered on December 23. The murders led the town to three locals, and when police didn't move fast enough, vigilantes took matters into their own hands.O'Dell closes things out with a WTF story of death and resurrection and then cleanses the palette with the story of a burglar and a cat named Spaghetti. This week I'm kicking off our fun old-fashioned Christmas with an old-timey triple murder, again, in Kentucky. On Christmas Eve 1881, the bodies of three teenagers were found in their burned-down home. But the fire wasn't an accident, it was set intentionally to cover a terrible crime. The men responsible were eventually brought to justice, but not before multiple citizen-lead militias fought the militias of guards intended to protect the prisoners to issue some vigilante justice.SOURCESThe Ashland Tragedy: Murder, a Mob and a Militia in Kentucky – January 25, 2021; book by H. As detectives from out of town come in to help, there are wrongful accusations of the culprits. Along with the towns people coming together a few times, to take matters into their own hands. Our very own Australian, Chris Dries, speaks Kentuckyian and its something you don't want to miss!
