Thankfully, no NEW illegals were able to steal your money, while many are actually leaving the country. And now some of them can't bank here. They can't wire money here. They can't simply stroll across the border, establish themselves, and send your money back home. How oppressive! And somehow, despite all those terrifying Trump trade wars, you're still alive. You haven't been forced to sell your house to buy a dozen eggs. In fact, you may have noticed that the economic apocalypse keeps getting postponed. But the big one... Iran. The media assured us Trump was going to get us all killed. World War III! Nuclear war! Mushroom clouds! Your children would be vaporized! And yet... You didn't get droned by Iran. Congratulations! Apparently surviving the Trump presidency is now an extreme sport. And that brings me to all you horrible people listening right now. Yes, you. You racist... Homophobic... Xenophobic... Bible-thumping... America-loving... Trump-supporting... deplorables. You people are amazing. The Left has spent years predicting your extinction. The media has declared Trump supporters morally diseased, politically doomed, economically suicidal and apparently one tweet away from civilization collapsing. And yet you just keep showing up. Tonight's guest, Ken, was born and raised in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. Located along the northern edge of the Endless Mountains, Susquehanna County is home to countless forest-covered, rolling hills and the kind of terrain that would make it easy for a large cryptid to remain hidden.Late one night, in November of 2016, Ken was driving his ex-girlfriend around while she delivered newspapers on a route the two of them had been warned about. The warnings came from friends of his ex-girlfriend who had previously delivered papers on that route. They told Ken and his ex to be careful because they had seen what they described as Yetis while making deliveries.Naturally, Ken and his girlfriend didn't know what to make of those warnings. They had no reason to believe anything like that could be in the area. Their views on the existence of large, unknown cryptids changed abruptly that night, however. What they encountered didn't resemble a Yeti. Tonight's guest, Greg Helton, has been investigating the Sasquatch phenomenon for about 30 years. His first sighting happened in Manitou Springs, Colorado. He was on a cliff face, on the eastern side of Williams Canyon, tossing slate rocks over the edge so he could watch them smash on the ground below. After tossing the third rock, he suddenly noticed a black, furry, humanoid-shaped figure moving to his left. When he focused on the figure, he realized that it was looking back at him. The Pale Crawler is a modern cryptid legend and Halloween Favorite tied to The Rake, a creepypasta deliberately created online in 2005. What began as an anonymous forum experiment soon became a wave of alleged humanoid sightings, viral trail-camera images, Reddit stories and YouTube horror. In this episode of Terrifying & True, we trace Operation Crawler and the birth of The Rake creepypasta, the alleged Effingham, Illinois and rural Kentucky encounters, the notorious Louisiana “swamp monster” trail-camera hoax, and the internet feedback loop that transformed a collaborative horror story into modern folklore. We also examine ordinary explanations behind many Pale Crawler sightings, including mangy deer, low-light misidentification, pareidolia, sleep paralysis, pranks and staged footage. As Halloween season approaches, the Pale Crawler has become a perfect spooky-season urban legend: a blank-faced humanoid said to crawl on all fours, rise taller than a person and vanish into the woods. Like Slender Man and other internet-born monsters, it survives because every eyewitness account, comment and viral video makes the story feel a little more real. William Beaumont and Alexis St. Martin stand at the center of one of the most famous and ethically troubling stories in the history of human experimentation. After an accidental musket blast on Mackinac Island in 1822 tore through St. Martin's ribs, lung, diaphragm and stomach, Army surgeon Beaumont saved his life. The wound healed into a permanent gastric fistula - a living opening through which Beaumont could observe human digestion directly.Beginning in 1825, Beaumont tied food to silk thread and lowered it into St. Martin's stomach, extracted gastric juice through tubes, measured temperature and recorded the effects of illness, exercise and emotional disturbance. The work culminated in his 1833 book Experiments and Observations on the Gastric Juice, and the Physiology of Digestion and helped transform the science of digestion. It also documented pain, weakness, vertigo and distress, sometimes followed by a decision to continue.Beaumont was not only St. Martin's doctor. He was also his employer, provider and investigator. In 1832, a labor agreement called St. Martin a "covenant Servant" and required him to "obey, suffer and comply" with reasonable and proper experiments. This episode examines that contract, the imbalance behind it and the limits of consent without erasing St. Martin's agency. He refused surgery, returned to Canada, negotiated payment, left repeatedly, permitted some later examinations and ultimately rejected Beaumont's final efforts to bring him back.Terrifying & True separates the documented medical history from later sensational claims that Beaumont deliberately preserved the opening or kept St. Martin as a literal prisoner. The USS Indianapolis sinking remains one of the most devastating naval disasters of World War II. On July 30, 1945, Japanese submarine I-58 torpedoed the heavy cruiser in the Philippine Sea after it completed a secret mission delivering components for the Little Boy atomic bomb to Tinian.Indianapolis sank in about twelve minutes. Nearly nine hundred sailors and Marines reached the water alive, but only 316 of the nearly twelve hundred people aboard survived. For more than three days, the survivors drifted across miles of open ocean with little food, almost no fresh water and failing life jackets. They endured burns, injuries, dehydration, hallucinations, exposure and real shark attacks whose exact death toll can never be known. No rescue force had been sent to find them. Tonight's guest, Nick Pool, grew up on a farm in the hills of western Kentucky. As a kid, one of the things he looked forward to most was finally being old enough to deer hunt with his father and brother. His father had promised him that when he turned 11, he'd be old enough to join them.Bright and early on the second day of deer season, shortly after Nick's 11th birthday, his father walked him out to a tree stand Nick had built in a large section of woods near the family farm. Hidden within those woods was a secluded field, making it an ideal place to hunt. Nick settled into his stand before sunrise, and not long after the sun came up, he began hearing strange sounds. Immediately on high alert, he scanned the woods, trying to figure out what was making them.It wasn't long before he found out—and what he saw left him in complete shock. Standing before him was a 9-foot-tall Sasquatch!That incredible encounter wasn't the only experience Nick had with the family of Sasquatch that lived in the woods surrounding his family's farm. Over the years, he had many more encounters with them and eventually came to enjoy seeing them. Years later, however, he had a very different kind of experience—one involving another undocumented creature he encountered on a lonely back road. Unlike his Sasquatch encounters, this one wasn't enjoyable at all. Brian welcomes Mark from Michigan to share a lifetime of unsettling encounters involving Sasquatch, Dogman, and other unexplained activity. Mark's story begins around the age of ten, when his father reported seeing a tall, long-haired figure near the family farm and something began tapping on the windows at night.Years later, while deer hunting near a cornfield, Mark encountered an enormous gunmetal-gray Sasquatch accompanied by an overpowering odor of rotting meat and skunk. The woods suddenly went silent, nearby animals reacted strangely, and the experience left him with recurring nightmares that caused him to abandon the rest of the hunting season.Mark also describes discovering large X formations, teepee-like wood structures, unusual tracks, clicking sounds, unexplained lights, and a rock deliberately placed on top of a stump. During one turkey hunt, something attempted to imitate his barred owl call before a large figure appeared to peek at him from behind a tree. The encounters did not stop with Sasquatch. Mark recounts seeing a massive bipedal canine creature, finding unusual doglike tracks, observing glowing eyes near his home, and encountering an abnormally large black coyote-like animal that he could not bring himself to shoot. He also discovered several deer that had been opened and gutted without any of the meat being taken.Brian and Mark examine why witnesses often remain silent, whether these creatures are undiscovered flesh-and-blood animals or connected to something far stranger, and why an intelligent being might deliberately allow itself to be seen. I had an issue with several interviews last week where the audio is terrible and I am not sure why. While I work on it, I am loading one of my favorite episodes 729. A listener writes "My brother in-law and I have hunted all over Oklahoma. Grady County, in Central Oklahoma, Near Clayton in the South East, but in this one piece of property in Nowata, smack in the middle between the Verdigris River and Ooligha Lake, we had a very Terrifying encounter, …….with something. I'm 53 years old and hunted, with my dad, in Nowata, before I was old enough to drive. Not many people know how wooded this area is. My father and I hunted only 8 miles away from this property, I'm going to tell you about, and there are caves in the area. My dad and I use to hunt from the mouth of one on rainy days. I think, I could hide from populated areas, easily myself, so I'm pretty sure an elusive animal could too. It all started on our father in-law's land. It was about 40 acres, but we had permission to hunt another 40 on the back side of it. I always felt uneasy on this property. Like I was being watched, but I just rationalized it away. I would hear someone else walking the property, in the dark, keeping pace with me, as I walked to my hunting spot. I would swallow my fear and tell myself it's just another armadillo or racoon, and keep going. Once I borrow a knife from my dad, just in case I got a deer. The last thing he said to me was, " I don't care if you leave everything ease, just bring my knife back" . This knife was hand made, razor sharp, and entirely metal. I knew he meant it, so I was not going to leave it. That hunt I struck out, but my brother in-law, got a small buck. I was in my early 30s then, but he was in his 20s and had never gutted a deer before, so I was going to gut it for him. I slit open the abdomen and began pulling out the insides, in a bloody mess. He laughed at how bloody I was getting, calling me doctor Dave. I was trying to show him but he just laughed and teased me all the more. Frustrated I cleaned the knife on my camo and stuck it in the dirt. It was later in the day, so we gathered our haul and started back to camp. We walked, maybe 1/8th of a mile when, you guessed it. I forgot that knife. We were already sweating despite the cold, so my brother in-law wasn't happy about turning around. After less than 10 minutes, we got back to the spot, I picked up the knife, and wiped the dirt off on my pants. I looked up and said, let's go, but my friend didn't move. He turned and said slowly, " you don't see anything wrong here." The entire gut pile was gone. Even the blood. There was just one leaf with one drop of blood. No drag marks, no sign anything had been there, except for one large area of disturbed grass where the carcass had been, one small spot of crushed grass and of course my knife. Now I think there was a track there, but I didn't see it as that. This was Oklahoma and Bigfoot was not in my vocabulary. We walked back to camp in silence with guns loaded. What ever took that 30 pounds of slimy deer guts, had to be watching us while we opened the deer, was big enough to carry it off, and was probably still close. We had other things happen over the years, but one night stands frozen in my memory. In a later season, we were late getting to the property. We left too late to get there in the daylight. I was perturbed to have to set up the tent in the dark. It was darker than dark that night. It was nearly 2200, when we got it up. I was ready to start a fire, my brother in-law, and friend, Zack, said OK, let's go set up my tree stand. I replied, are you kidding, it's dark, I'm tired, and we haven't been here for an entire year. It was no use objecting, he was going on his own if I didn't go with him, so away we went. Trampling through the woods. The flash lights we had weren't great either. As we navigated off the ridge down into the bottom, of the hollow, I remember hearing something behind and to the right keeping pace with us in the woods. Fear hit me like it had never before. I tried to push it down, telling myself, it was nothing, but I struggled to stay upright on the dimly lit trail, carrying my pack. Finally, he found the tree he remembered from last year. I pulled screw in foot pegs out, and successfully got the stand in place 12 or 15 foot up. It took a long time and it was unusually warm. I set it up, so Zack wanted to make sure he liked it, so climbed up as I shined my, dim, flashlight on the pegs. While, he was climbing into the tree, that uneasy, fear, hit me again. I was hearing something moving behind me, and was having a hard time keeping that light shining on the tree. I would swing the light around and immediately heard my brother in-law yell, hey, give me some light, and WHAT ARE YOU DOING? I can't see. He finally get up there and bounces on the platform. Shining a flip phone around saying, "yeah, this'll work." I didn't care, I had my back to the tree, trying to see what was spooking me so bad. I was normally like that. I use to walk by moonlight to my hunting spot, but I could hear something moving around us in the dark. We were loud and it didn't seem to care. Finally, FINALLY, he got down and we made our way to camp. I started a fire and was feeling pretty comfortable on my sleeping bag. The fire comforted me as I cooled off, when Zack said, we gotta go back. I left my phone in the tree. I said , " it'll be there in the morning!!!!" He said, I'm going back. But I had enough. I was not leaving the fire. I told him your going on your own if you do. He took his rifle, and a flashlight and disappeared into the dark. I was just dosing off, when BOOM, and another BOOM. HE WAS SHOOTING. I bounced up pulling on my pants. As I fumbled with my boots Zack came running full sprint and stopped standing over me. I was mad at him. I didn't give him a chance to explain saying, you can't shoot at night! It's not legal to shoot a deer after dark, and everything is scared away now for half a mile. I feel bad now, he was pale, and just kept saying, " I saw something. I heard something." IT WAS NEARLY 10 YEARS LATER HE TOLD ME WHAT Happened. He said, something on 2 legs followed me in the woods. I paced me just out of sight. I yelled, thinking it was you messing with me. DAVID, cut it out. When he got to the tree. He yelled again, DAVID CUT IT OUT. then something mocked him out of the darkness. DAAVVIDD. He said something inside him told him to get up that tree. He shimmied up the tree like a squirrel. He cocked his gun and said DAVID, if that's you, you better cut it out. I'm going to shoot. Then he sees a huge black shape, and it mocked his frightened words, saying, DAAVIDD, HEA HEA HEA. Almost laughing. He thought it was a demon. So he shot, it ran, and he shot again. Seei g his chance, he scurried down and ran back to camp. There was no way we were going to sleep so I roasted hotdogs on the fire. And we had visitors. I heard coyotes yelp earlier, so I rationalized that's what it was. We where being harassed and circled by something on all fours. There was no eye shine, and they took care to not be caught in a flashlight. For nearly 2 hours they ran back and forth around us. The truck was close, but the gate was locked, and neither of us where going to fiddle with a lock, in the dark. We had guns but they were bolt action with a scope. These things were fast. We yelled but unless they came into the light, forget it. We threw out a weiner with antifreeze, in desporation. I heard something get up, run on 2 legs now and race to the weiner. In shock, we listened as this thing, started coughing and hacking. I thought to myself, that sound like a person. Then Zack said, what I thought. That sounds like a man. That sounds like a man. I said it can't be. Running in the woods with no light. He said, we just killed someone. I said, as the coughing continued, anyone who runs around hunter, at night, and picks up a hot dog, off the forest floor deserves to die. He laughed. Then I laughed. We bother laughed nervously, as this thing walked away coughing. We could hear it 100 yards away coughing. It was morning before we fell asleep. We didn't hunt that day. The treestand was ripped off the tree, broken at the welds. Chain still attached"

Two summers ago, tonight's guest, James, was sitting on the bank of Fellows Lake, near Springfield, Missouri, with his girlfriend when they had an incredible Sasquatch sighting. What made the experience so remarkable wasn't just seeing the Sasquatches—it was witnessing something they never imagined they would see.As they sat talking by the water, they noticed two reddish-brown figures standing about 50 yards offshore. At first, James assumed they were two men wearing reddish-brown clothing. It didn't take long for him to realize that wasn't the case.A short time later, the two figures began moving toward shore. After wading out of the water, one of them climbed onto the bank and proceeded to do something James still can't believe he witnessed. Mike's 1982 Oregon Bigfoot Encounter: Part 1In this episode, Brian welcomes Mike from New York for the first part of a terrifying encounter that has stayed with him for more than forty years. Mike begins by explaining how the Patterson-Gimlin film first sparked his interest in Bigfoot before taking us back to 1982, when he was traveling alone through Oregon on his way toward Crater Lake.After following a rough Forest Service road deep into the woods, Mike discovers two freshly fallen trees blocking the only way forward. Overcome by an intense and unexplainable sense of fear, he spends nearly ninety minutes cutting through roots and branches to clear a path.He eventually reaches an isolated, long-neglected campsite, where he sets up his tent, builds a fire, and settles in for the night.Another family later arrives nearby, lighting a massive bonfire and openly carrying a revolver. Not long after dark, something Mike assumes is a bear begins sniffing around his tent. When it presses close, he punches it through the fabric.Then the vocalizations begin.Soft, whispered “moo moo” sounds drift through the darkness and are answered by strange “bloop bloop” calls from another direction. The exchanges grow louder and more aggressive, followed by rock clacking and a powerful whoop so intense that Mike feels it strike his chest and cause the walls of his tent to billow inward. When Mike finally shouts into the darkness, everything goes silent. Moments later, the sounds begin again.Heavy footsteps approach the tent as though something is challenging him to come outside, forcing Mike to abandon camp and run for his car. The murder of Brian Barrett became one of the most disturbing true crime cases of the early internet age: a deadly online love triangle built on catfishing, fake identities, chatroom deception, jealousy, and obsession.In 2006, 22-year-old Brian Barrett was shot and killed outside Dynabrade Corporation in Clarence, New York, near Buffalo. Tonight's first guest, Kevin Frankenfield, is a hunting and fishing guide who had his Bigfoot sighting in Washington State, in November of 2023. When his sighting happened, he was working in the Deer Park Area. The morning his sighting happened, Kevin had woken up early, the way he normally does, and was on the phone with his girlfriend. When his dog woke up, instead of chomping at the bit to be let out, so he could run around Kevin's property, to see what he could get into, he jumped up on Kevin's bed and curled himself around Kevin's neck. That unusual behavior wasn't lost on Kevin. The next thing Kevin knew, his dog jumped off his bed, turned around, and hid under it. Not knowing what to make of his dog's strange behavior, Kevin started looking to see if anything unusual was going on outside. Not long after moving into his new home, with his family, he heard a loud vocalization that couldn't be easily explained away. He wasn't the only one in the area who heard it. The Greenbrier Ghost is one of the strangest true crime cases in American history: a West Virginia murder trial where testimony about a ghost helped expose the truth.In 1897, Elva Zona Heaster Shue was found dead in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Tonight's guest, Brett Ford, had two encounters with what some people would call Bearwolves, while he and his family were visiting Newfoundland, last summer. The encounters happened in fairly quick succession, on the same night, which makes Brett think they were connected somehow. The two Bearwolves/Dogmen he saw were definitely different creatures, as they looked different from one another. The first one he saw, near Cornerbrook, Newfoundland, had more of an athletic build. Tonight's guest, Rick, had his Dogman encounter one night, in 1990, around dusk. He was sitting in church with his wife, at the time, when he realized he had heard the sermon the pastor was just starting to give. When he realized he had already heard it, he told his wife that he was going to take a ride in his 85 Chevy pickup truck to kill some time. Not long after he had left the church, he turned down a secluded road that hadn't been used in a very long time. It was around 8 PM, so it was dusky/dark outside. To help him see better, he turned the overhead lights on, on his truck's rollbar. Seconds after he did that, he saw a huge creature, that wasn't supposed to exist, start climbing down the trunk of a tree that was about 50 yards from the side of the road. As the monstrosity was climbing down the trunk, Rick could hear its claws tearing the bark. At that point, Rick was rapidly approaching the part of the road that was closest to where the creature was. Curiosity got the best of him, so he stopped his truck and got out. Tonight's guest, Mike Tornincasa, started out as a paranormal investigator, but due to a series of experiences he had while doing field investigations in places with a history of paranormal events, he's now a paranormal/sasquatch investigator. The first experience he had that might have involved seeing a sasquatch happened about 4 years ago, in an old cemetery, in Ravenna, Ohio. To this day, Mike's not sure what it was that he saw. A few weeks ago, however, he had a clear sighting of a sasquatch. You see, he was doing a livestream for his podcast that night, in Cuyahoga Valley National Forest, in Summit County, Ohio, and wound up seeing an 8-plus-foot-tall sasquatch peek out at him from behind a tree.
