Charlie Lawson – Coronation Street Legend...talks to TRE's Hannah Murray
Would Jim McDonald work in 2024 Corrie? Charlie Lawson chatted to Frank about 'woke culture' in soaps, holidaying back home and his new memoir 'That's Life, So It Is' Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
On this week's podcast, we cover the episodes of Coronation Street shown on the 10th and the 12th June (Episodes #11,287 - 11,290). Only a couple of Corries to chat about this week, and not too many big developments to discuss either, we thought, so a relatively short podcast to balance out the bumper eps from the past few weeks! We'd all seen it coming a mile off, but this week, Toyah and Nick finally kissed - was it just a one-off, or will this blossom into something bigger? We've certainly got our own views where that's concerned! Also this week, Summer's back from Boston, and she's not alone - but is Felix just a bit too much of a geek even for her? Meanwhile, Abi's pleased to hear that Corey's documentary has been taken down, Glenda and George are still at loggerheads (despite Debbie's best efforts...) and Ken has a bit of a tumble - but will he accept his family's support? Up next on the podcast it's The Kabin, where we finally have a name and release month for Charlie Lawson's autobiography, and we finish things off with a bit of feedback. In addition to the play, Kyle ran anti-sectarian workshops based upon its message at schools and youth groups in and around Glasgow. Later that year he starred opposite Coronation Street's Charlie Lawson in NLP's stage production of author Des Dillon's comedic play Blue Hen. Director Ken Loach's 2012 comedy The Angel's Share, a film revolving around Glaswegians who discover whisky, saw Kyle feature as Clancy in his first film role. In this episode of the Crack House Chronicles Donnie and Dale go back to the early 1900s and discuss a North Carolina case. On Christmas day, 1929 Charlie Lawson, a rural North Carolina tobacco farmer brutally murdered six of his children, his wife and then killed himself. The horrific crime made the front page of the New York Times. It inspired a hit record and would conjure up rumor and speculation for generations to come. https://www.crackhousechronicles.com/ https://linktr.ee/crackhousechronicles https://www.tiktok.com/@crackhousechronicles https://www.facebook.com/crackhousechronicles Check out our MERCH! https://www.teepublic.com/user/crackhousechronicles Sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_the_Lawson_family https://www.reddit.com/r/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/rcxhts/on_december_25th_1929_charlie_lawson_brutally/ https://www.reddit.com/r/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/14lujum/why_did_charlie_lawson_murder_his_family_on/
The Lawson family was a typical farming family in the 1920s. Charlie and Fannie had 7 beautiful children who, for the most part, grew up in typical style. So it was a shock to everyone who knew them that on Christmas day in 1929, the whole family would be massacred by the patriarch of the family, Charlie Lawson. But what would cause a man to murder his whole family? Find out some of the theories and more (including a very macabre museum) when Ashley tells us about this Christmas Massacre. Nikko Jenkins grew up in a family who were no strangers to crime and following in the family's footsteps, Nikko did his fair share, including murder. Only he claimed SEVERAL different dark entities told him to do things, including carving into his own self. Listen as Jessica tells us all of the dark details of this case and Ashley and Jessica talk about whether he should have been found fit to stand trial or not. On Christmas Day 1929, residents of Germanton, North Carolina were disturbed by multiple gunshots over at the Lawson residence - and when they arrived to investigate, they found a scene that no-one ever wants to witness: an entire family killed by their own father. We've always known who's responsible for the Lawson family murders, but the big question is: why? Why did Charlie Lawson do it?

Charlie Lawson has got himself a reputation as the reluctant networker.Born into a networking family his parents owned several franchises for BNI around the world and inevitably Charlie became part of the family firm. He eventually acknowledged that he was an introvert and that networking didn't come easy to him. Now venturing out on his own away from BNI he is helping others to see that, even as an introvert, you can still develop some networking skills that will grow your business.Gill and Charlie have travelled the globe networking and now get together to unpick the way the world has change since they first met, over a decade ago.Hashtags/keywords #networking #introvert #collaboration Add hashtags #love #team #community #inspiration #personaldevelopment #business #coglo #connection #marketing #futurethinking, #givingback, #leadership

• Christmas and New Year are risk factors for cardiac and non-cardiac deaths. A couple of reasons for that are that people delay actually going to the ER. They don't want to rush up there if there's nothing truly wrong. They don't want to leave their families. They're in the middle of the holiday festivities. They're spending time with the people that they love and they don't want to leave. They don't want to go to the emergency room. So they delay seeking treatment and they consume a large amount of foods. We all know we all overeat during the holidays. I hate to admit it, but I am very guilty of that. Just the stress of the holidays in general, people are having to work extra hours to be able to afford Christmas gifts for the people that they buy presents for. A lot of people don't have a choice., they are new to their jobs and they are forced to work during the holiday hours. Also, just the general excitement of the holidays can build up the catecholamines that actually can cause fatal heart arrhythmias. And we don't really think about it that much, but education can help. Moderate consumption of food, not smoking, different things like that can actually improve our risk. But nonetheless, the risk is still there. (02:10)• So I looked over at my dad and he was clenching his chest. I could see sweat coming through his shirt and he looked like he was in pain. So I asked him, dad, are you okay? What's going on? How are you feeling? And he said, oh, my hernia is acting up. And we all know men sometimes are a little bit in denial when they have issues coming up. They don't want to go to the doctor, but he blamed it on his hernia. So my mom was in the bathroom at the time and my mom was also an RN. And so I went in there and I said, hey, mom, I'm pretty sure dad's having a heart attack. I'm going to call 911. And so her response was kind of funny. I think she was a little bit in denial. She's like, let me put my makeup on and I'll drive him up there. And I basically said, no, you can't drive and do CPR at the same time. I'm calling 911 right now. Long story short, EMS came and picked up my dad. And when they put him on the EKG, I could actually see him having a heart attack. (07:40)• I was looking also into deaths that occurred on Christmas day and I found one that happened back, this was way back in 1929. There was this family in North Carolina that was murdered. There was a gentleman by the name of Charlie Lawson and he was a sharecropper and he murdered his wife and six of his seven children. And this actually happened on Christmas day in 1929. The odd thing is, and this was very strange for a sharecropper because they didn't make a lot of money. But days before Christmas he took his wife and all seven of his children and they ranged in age from four months to 17 years. His wife, bless her heart, was pregnant her entire life. He took them into town to buy new clothes and his plan was to have a family portrait. This was a big family. Again, very strange for a sharecropper to do this. So on the 25th Christmas morning he shot his 7 and 12 year old daughters with a 12 gauge shotgun. They were leaving to go to their aunt and uncle's house and he went into the barn and shot them on their way to the aunt and uncle's house. Now after he did that, he went home and shot his wife, she was on the porch. Then he went into the house and shot all of his children and he bludgeoned his four month old. Then he disappeared for several hours at which time he was in the woods and he eventually shot himself in the head. Now if you can imagine being the only survivor, if you have six siblings and your parents, so a total of eight people that die on the same day and you're the only surviving family member. Can you imagine how devastating that would be? (11:57)• There were a lot of rumors after the event that Charlie, the dad who committed the murders, was sexually abusing his 17-year-old daughter, Marie. She had actually told a friend that she had become pregnant by her father. Now there was a rumor that Charlie had told Marie that if she ever told her mother, and this is a quote, some killing would be done. So it is believed that there's a possibility that Marie told her mom that she had been impregnated by her father, at which point he found out and carried out what he promised and killed the entire family. If y'all are like me, I would love to go to this location. But shortly after the murders, Charlie's brother opened the home as a tourist attraction. Now this is a place that I would want to go. This to me would be a vacation. It probably would be for most of you as well. So apparently when Charlie murdered Marie, the daughter that he supposedly was sleeping with, she was in the middle of baking a cake. The cake that Marie baked that day was actually on display in the home when the tourists would come in. Well guess what? People are weird and the visitors, the tourists that were coming into the house, started taking raisins off the cake for souvenirs. So people, come on. Like eventually it had to be covered with glass so that no one could touch it because everyone thought it would be cool to have a raisin off this cake that Marie baked that night. So all of the Lawsons, the entire family, were laid to rest in this family graveyard. And Arthur, who was 17 at the time, of course he was the only survivor, he's the one that came home and found his entire family had been shot. So he of course survived and went on to get married and have some children, actually four children. And then later in 1945 he was killed in a motor vehicle crash. Charlie Lawson, the quiet, unassuming man had become more outgoing, especially with the children. He laughed and told jokes, which he never did. His wife might have been happy with those changes in her husband if they hadn't been so abrupt – and if Charlie had not been spending an inordinate amount of time with their 17-year-old daughter, Marie. Something terrible was going to happen, and it would ruin Christmas in a way that only murder and tragedy can do. Very few people feel like ‘natural' networkers and most people feel uncomfortable in business networking situations. Part of that discomfort stems from how we position ‘networking' in our minds, and a lot of it is down to how we prepare for the event. Networking, just like speaking, has never been bigger. Online networking is still as popular as it was during the pandemic for many reasons, and now in-person networking is back in play. And regardless of how you feel about it … the bottom line is that if you want to grow your career or business then you must build relationships and grow your network. If you know that you're avoiding networking or you want to get better at it so that you can rock 2023, then you're in the right place. That's because my guest on this show is Charlie Lawson. Until relatively recently, Charlie was the UK head of one of the biggest networking organisations, BNI. On top of that he has written two books of networking - ‘The Unnatural Networker' and ‘The Unnatural Promoter', and he is also an international speaker on the subject. He is on a mission to show people and organisations how to generate more leads and grow their profits through networking, and he is here to share some great tips with you! Enjoy! What you'll discover: Why Charlie calls himself an unnatural networker. How his feelings about networking used to impact his networking success. What he did to go from feeling uncomfortable about networking to leading the BNI in the UK 13 years. How Charlie prepares for a networking event. What being a networking superhero looks like. Why and how you should lead the networking conversation with differentiation. The ingredients of a good elevator pitch. How to use stories in networking. How speaking has helped Charlie build his brand and business. The big mistakes people making when they network. Tips for getting more referrals and business. Thanks to the World Cup messing with the telly schedules, this week's Coronation Street has all been uploaded to the ITV Hub early! We've binged all the episodes, and in this edition of the podcast, we chat about what'll be going down in Weatherfield between the 23rd and the the 27th November (Episodes #10801 - 10806). This week, Hope takes hero worshipping of her serial killer dad to the next level as she attempts to re-enact Charlotte Hoyle's murder by hammer at school. Meanwhile, as Sam comes face to face with Harvey to give him a good grilling, will he get the answers he's looking for? Also this week, Griff enlists Spider to protest Maria's community centre takeover, Summer plans to go on the run to keep her pregnancy under wraps (and we heartily approve!) and an old flames barges her way back into Ken's life. It's only been a few days since our last podcast, but we've still got a couple of news items to discuss in The Kabin, including Sue Cleaver's exit from the jungle and Charlie Lawson's comments that Corrie could be axed within the next ten years - do we agree? We finish things off with a couple of your lovely emails. Street Talk: 00:16:02 The Kabin: 02:30:24 Feedback: 02:44:05

In our special holiday edition, our guest Aaron Greene who is a local historian tells us about the Christmas Day massacre of 1929. Charlie Lawson, patriarch of the Lawson family of Brooke Cove Road in Walnut Cove, North Carolina murdered his wife and all but one of his children. This murder has been talked about since it happened and most likely for years to come. No one is really sure of Charlie's motive, and we discuss the speculation behind it. I have uploaded a few photos as well as a link to the FOX 8 docu-series on YouTube to our gallery page on checkmatewithbishopandknight.com. Note: In this episode, our goal is not to slander or demean Charlie Lawson or the Lawson family name. No one knows what Charlie was going through mentally at the time, and while murder is never justified, mental health is the driving factor in many cases. If you are thinking about harming yourself or someone else, please reach out for help. Even if you don't think you have anyone who will listen, I promise that you do. Kerri covers the case of The Frog Boys in South Korea. U Cheol-won, Jo Ho-yeon, Kim Yeong-gyu, Park Chan-in, and Kim Jong-sik were all under young kids, ranging from 13 years old to 9 years old. They were just doing kid things on a day off from school, but unfortunately.. they never returned home. Donna covers the Lawson Family and it's also a hard case to hear about. Charlie Lawson seemed to have "Christmas surprise" for his family that he had been planning for a while, but it wasn't the good kind of surprise. This episode was sponsored by BetterHelp! On this week's episode we are taking you on a tour of some awful Christmas massacres. We talk about family annihilators, Bruce Pardo wearing a Santa costume to his ex-wife's family Christmas party and murdered 9 of her guests including her, as well as Aziz Yazdanpanah also dressed as Santa and murdered his entire family including his estranged wife and from 1929 a man named Charlie Lawson murdered his entire family except for his eldest son who he sent to town on the day of the murders. These murders are some of the saddest, since this time of year is supposed to be the happiest for families and friends. So, give it a listen and let us know what you think. Thank you for listening and your continued support!
On Christmas Day 1929, Charlie Lawson committed the chilling act of murdering his wife and children. What's darker is the reason why, according to some true crime authors. But are they right, and what do we know today about the rare phenomenon of familicide?Preorder the "Songs In The Key Of Death" EP via Bandcamp now!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
