Important News - Bitcoin Trading at Strong Correlation with Gold as Traditional Investors Step In

A Wall Street Journal (WSJ) article published today, Dec. 28, suggests that Bitcoin (BTC)’s correlation with traditional assets markets has been high in recent days. Citing data from research firm Excalibur Pro Inc., the WSJ states that the top cryptocurrency has traded at a 0.84 correlation to gold over the past five days, where -1 indicates complete inversion and +1 perfect correlation. Moreover, Bitcoin has traded at a 0.77 correlation to the Chicago Board of Options Exchange’s Volatility index (VIX), a benchmark index for the United States equity market volatility. While the WSJ frames the strong correlation between traditional markets and what the article dubs as the rebellious first cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, as something of an unexpected twist of fate, the article also offers several explanations as to why the pattern may have formed. The first is the reported influx of institutional money into the crypto space, with the WSJ citing the growth of Grayscale Investments’ over-the-counter exchange-traded fund (ETF), the Bitcoin Investment Trust, as a prime example. As per the article, the trust saw $51 million in assets under management (AUM) during its first year (2013). By the end of 2017, in the midst of the crypto market bull run, AUM had surged to around $3.5 billion. As of recently — due to the so-called “crypto winter” — the trust reportedly retains about $900 million AUM. Another factor proffered is venture capital (VC) investment. The WSJ reports that whereas in 2013, VC investment in Bitcoin and the blockchain sector was at around $96 million, this grew to $500 million in 2016 and to over $2 billion in all-time VC crypto investment through the end of 2017. The WSJ gives no fresh data for 2018. As the article notes, a pull factor for traditional capital into crypto is the building of trading services and infrastructure with high regulatory compliance; the advent of crypto futures trading, and attempts to gain broad acceptance for crypto-based ETFs. As reported, the crypto space continues to undergo far-ranging transformation; major developments on the horizon include the launch of the Bakkt Bitcoin futures exchange from Intercontinental Exchange, the launch of investment giant Fidelity’s digital assets business, and the continued influx of stalwart investors such as Yale, Harvard and Stanford Universities. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nolan-emmett/message

Co-hosted by D. Tyler Jenks and Leah WaldD. Tyler Jenks, the President, and CIO of Lucid Investment Strategies LLC developed the proprietary technical system of Hyperwave. After 40 years as an investment manager, he discovered over 300 examples of Hyperwaves within various asset classes; stocks, bonds, commodities, indexes, and cryptocurrencies. Through careful study, he invented and developed the Hyperwave Theory, which is a technical tool to analyze the Hyperwaves and determine price movements. Tyler believes that Bitcoin is currently in a Hyperwave and through these vlogs, he will educate, elucidate and explain the techniques needed to understand this powerful tool. Tyler has managed billions of dollars for Institutional Investors, Pension Funds, Hedge Funds and individual clients. He received his MBA from the University of Hawaii in 1975 and has been involved in the financial markets ever since. His background in technical analysis includes all the major techniques including a number of proprietary systems he and others created and designed. Tyler believes that Hyperwaves occur when there is a momentous shift taking place in the macroeconomic environment. Hyperwaves were formed as the world entered the Great Depression when Bretton Woods was scuttled with the US going off the gold standard in 1971, when Japan rose to world economic prominence in the 1970s and 80s, when the Nasdaq was powered by the dot-com bubble and now, with the introduction of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. Amazingly, Tyler believes this newest Hyperwave could be the most significant he has ever studied.Lucid Investment Strategies, LLC https://lucidfunds.com Tyler's Twitter: https://twitter.com/LucidInvestment Leah's Twitter: https://twitter.com/LeahWald Leah's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/leahwald/ Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!Bitcoin: 31qBca9jRFfux1Qsum9Ekp95MBSgCEWxt6Disclaimer: This video is based on personal opinion and experience and it should not be considered professional financial investment advice. When I was a kid my mother had made something called Swiss Chard, a dark green leafy vegetable. To me, as a kid, it was disgusting, I could barely swallow it without initiating a gag reflex. One night while we were eating dinner I was attempting to gag down another mouthful of that and my dad, who was tired of watching me wrench in pain said, "Ok, enough, you don't have to eat anymore of it!". And with that I promptly spit out what was in my mouth. To which my dad retorted, "I didn't mean for you to spit out what you were already eating!!". But I was relieved! I'm looking at Bitcoin...who isn't!!? And there are two sides to that coin; there is an irresistible pull to jump in on the ever-higher price and try to get some of that for yourself. And then, there is the other side, which might initiate a gag reflex; with no regulation, or history of funding illegal activity, and so forth. I prefer a two-sided market where there are opportunities to participate in such great trends. After years of working with investments I find it unsettling to buy on the high! But, the notion of the decentralized crypto-currencies is very cool and has some promise of impacting our banking system and many other industries. So, what do you do? I have been looking at some Bitcoin-correlated instruments that have some of the upside potential without some of the less-favorable characteristics of Bitcoin. For example, GBTC, the Bitcoin Investment Trust has some volatility that can prove valuable; however, there are no options so you are working with the instrument directly. Of course there are other crypto-currencies such as Litecoin and Ethereum. If you are going to jump in to these then make sure you are using funds that you are willing to expose to a high amount of risk. In the meantime, while I really like the crypto-currency opportunities, I keep my portfolio well diversified. This means I continue to look for good ETF and Stock opportunities. For the ETFs I am usually tracking SPY, DIA, QQQ, and the Spyder ETFs life XLF and others. My algorithms identify high-probability opportunities on Dow Jones stocks and ETFs; and I track these in my Signal Reports...you can see an example on FinancialInvestingRadio.com (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PriK5_gokKM). Luckily my parents found some vegetables that were still good for me, but didn't have some of the downside issues. In our investing, we need to do the same; pick those instruments that help us PROTECT OUR INVESTMENT CAPITAL while growing at a reasonable rate. Until next time, Trade with your Brain!

Hello, welcome to episode 23 of The Bitcoin Game, I'm Rob Mitchell. I decided to experiment with buying Bitcoin a new way; I bought shares of the Bitcoin Investment Trust. The trust is the first, and I believe the only current way a U.S. citizen can add an investment in Bitcoin to a recognized retirement account. You can buy shares of the Bitcoin Investment Trust with symbol GBTC using a standard brokerage account, just like buying a stock or ETF. You could argue that one doesn't actually own Bitcoin with these shares, since a third party holds the private keys, and there are inherent risks — just ask Patrick Byrne. But the fund, and this episode, are likely skewed slightly towards people interested in investing in Bitcoin for the long term, using an investing platform they are already familiar with, while shielding themselves from the learning curve still required to hold Bitcoin securely. In today's episode I speak with Michael Sonnenshein, director of Sales & Business Development for Grayscale, one of several companies founded by Barry Silbert. Based on Grayscale's first quarter financials, the total number of Bitcoin Investment Trust shares sold was approximately 1.41 million, which has a value of over $37 million dollars (at the current rate of $265/Bitcoin). Potential fund buyers need to make sure they understand the risks associated with Bitcoin, investing in Bitcoin using a fund, as well as the fees and premiums that are associated with buying this fund. Would you ever buy shares of the Bitcoin Investment Trust, or recommend it? Please let me know your thoughts by commenting below! 7/19/16 Update: For anyone who bought GBTC (Bitcoin Investment Trust) back when this episode aired, the gains have substantially surpassed a 100% investment in Bitcoin. I will go on a limb and say this is because the demand for GBTC has been a lot greater than the supply (probably due to mainstream and retirement investors wanting Bitcoin exposure). So the market price of GBTC is way above the net asset value of the Bitcoin that the trust holds. With two new Bitcoin ETFs expected in coming months/years, it's possible that new Bitcoin investment vehicles will cool off the demand for GBTC, so I'm not sure if buying GBTC on the open market is wise at current values. However, if you're a "qualified investor" who is up for a large initial investment and year waiting period, you can buy GBTC at par with the current price of Bitcoin, so that may be a smarter investment (if you believe in Bitcoin, and don't think we'll have a financial/societal "reset" before then). Of course, anything could happen to Bitcoin and/or GBTC. And be very aware, I'm definitely not an investment advisor, this is just my amateur read of the situation.
