Bude to rok od chvíle, kdy bývalý šéf Evropské centrální banky a ex-italský premiér Mario Draghi předložil Bruselu svou obsáhlou zprávu o stavu Evropské unie. „To je další obrovská byrokratická zátěž, kterou čínské či americké společnosti vůbec nemají,“ říká Kovanda.Zásadní zůstává i problém společného financování investic.

In 2024 the Lithium market saw huge price drops related to oversupply, a slowing EV adoption rate globally, as well as macroeconomic headwinds. Is this a pause or a more structural challenge? What is the long-term demand picture? How does geopolitics fit within that? Does technological change threaten the outlook? And in such a volatile market, why is risk management essential? Our guest is Caspar Rawles, Chief Operating Officer at Benchmark, the Independent Price Reporting Agency for Critical Minerals, including Lithium, which will soon be launching three Lithium futures contracts with the Intercontinental Exchange, ICE. The 10th annual “Stand in Ansel Adams’ Footsteps” juried competition, featuring 133 black-and-white nature photos, runs until April 26, celebrating the iconic landscape photographer. “Pause, Reflect, Prepare,” showcasing figurative sculptures by Decatur artist Jess Self, continues through April 19. Self’s work incorporates materials like wax, wool, and wood, reflecting her expertise in sculpture. Both exhibits highlight the center’s mission to connect art lovers and learners. Visit the Hudgens Center on Sugarloaf Parkway for more details. STORY 2: Senate confirms Loeffler to run U.S. Small Business Administration Former Sen. Kelly Loeffler, R-Ga., has been confirmed as director of the federal Small Business Administration in a 52-46 Senate vote. Loeffler, previously appointed to the Senate in 2020 by Gov. Brian Kemp, lost her seat to Democrat Raphael Warnock in 2021. A former CEO and co-owner of the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream, she is married to Jeff Sprecher, CEO of Intercontinental Exchange. A Trump loyalist, Loeffler supported efforts to challenge Georgia’s 2020 election results. She also founded Greater Georgia to boost GOP voter registration. Loeffler joins other Georgians in key federal roles under Trump’s second term. STORY 3: Duracell R&D headquarters coming to Atlanta Duracell will establish its Global Research and Development Headquarters in Atlanta, investing $56 million and creating 110 jobs. The facility will be located near Georgia Tech’s Midtown campus at Science Square, a hub for innovation. Duracell, which already operates facilities in LaGrange and Fairburn, aims to strengthen its position as a global leader in battery technology. Gov. Brian Kemp highlighted Georgia’s appeal to innovative companies due to its research institutions, logistics network, and pro-business environment. The project was supported by state and local economic development partners. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We’ll be right back Break 2: RINGLING BROS_FINAL STORY 4: UPDATE: Argument Leads To Deadly Shooting At Lawrenceville Area McDonald's A workplace dispute turned deadly Wednesday in the parking lot of a Lawrenceville McDonald’s, leaving 43-year-old Donald Stewart dead and his boss, 40-year-old Michael Todd, in custody. Gwinnett police reported the incident occurred on Sugarloaf Parkway just before noon. Stewart was shot in the back and later died at a hospital. Todd remained at the scene and was arrested, facing charges including malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault. The argument between the co-workers escalated into the fatal shooting. STORY 5: House panel approves easing burden of proof of intellectual disability in capital cases A Georgia House committee advanced House Bill 123, which aims to ease the process for death penalty defendants to claim intellectual disability as a defense. The bill would lower the burden of proof from “beyond a reasonable doubt” to “preponderance of the evidence” and separate the determination of intellectual disability from the trial’s guilt phase. Advocates argue this reduces the risk of executing individuals with intellectual disabilities, aligning Georgia with other states. Critics, including a district attorney, warn it could complicate seeking the death penalty. The bill now moves to the House Rules Committee for a floor vote. Break 3: GCPS STORY 6: Officials Release Sketch To Help Identify Missing Remains Found In Gwinnett County Lawrenceville Police released a sketch to identify human remains found near Georgia Highway 316 and Duluth Highway on Feb. 10. Construction workers discovered a human skull near Northside Gwinnett Hospital, but no other remains were located. Forensic experts determined the skull belonged to a Caucasian man aged 35 to 70. A sketch by a Georgia Bureau of Investigation artist depicts what the man may have looked like. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Lawrenceville Police Department or Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office. STORY 7: State Senate passes farmland preservation constitutional change The Georgia Senate approved a constitutional amendment to double the farmland eligible for conservation tax breaks from 2,000 to 4,000 acres, passing 51-1. The measure, part of efforts to preserve farmland amid significant losses over 50 years, will go to voters in a 2026 referendum. If approved, it would take effect in 2027. The Senate also passed an accompanying bill to set the referendum date. Supporters, like Sen. Sam Watson, highlighted the need to adapt the Conservation Use Valuation Assessment (CUVA) program to modern farming trends with larger family farms. The legislation now heads to the Georgia House. Hear from Gordon Bennett, Managing Director at ICE, as we dive into theory and practice of carbon pricing and its important role in driving the transition to net zero. Carbon pricing is the poster child of market-based solutions to climate change. The principle is simple: by assigning a cost to greenhouse gas emissions, we incentivize polluters to emit less, and to do so in the most cost-effective way. But there's a significant gap between the theory and practice. Currently, only 24% of global emissions – about 12.8 gigatonnes – are covered by pricing mechanisms such as carbon taxes or cap-and-trade. On top of that, just half a gigatonne was traded in voluntary markets last year. Clearly, there's still a long way to go. In this episode, we explore the carbon pricing gap, including: Why it exists, what's needed to close it; The integrity challenges facing voluntary carbon markets, and how to address them; And how central counterparties can help drive the transition by ensuring transparent, reliable pricing. Sponsored by ION MarketsIt's no surprise that an industry veteran like Chris Edmonds, president of fixed income and data services at Intercontinental Exchange, would have a few insightful (and entertaining) thoughts to share about the buzz surrounding artificial intelligence. This chat with Edmonds at the 49th annual International Futures Industry Conference features his view on where AI fits in the long history of advancements in humans' ability to compute at greater speed. Edmonds reflects on what happens when he asks people to define 'artificial intelligence' and he also sneaks in a great reference to the 1980s film "War Games" to explain how trust can go wrong when it comes to AI. How does this all relate to data trends in capital markets? Tune in and let Edmonds explain.Sign up for the FIA SmartBrief newsletter.Sign up for Modern Money SmartBriefFollow this show on Twitter @ModernMoneyPod
Initiative 2117 to repeal Washington state's cap-and-trade law under the Climate Commitment Act could already be impacting the CCA's carbon credit futures market that is meant to reduce overall carbon emissions. Via forums like the Intercontinental Exchange, or ICE, traders can buy and sell Washington carbon credit futures. Closing prices have steadily declined since I-2117 was certified last month, though the December 2024 CCA contracts were dropping slightly in the months before the measure was certified. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/washington-in-focus/support

In today's episode, we have a special guest joining us, JC Kneale, who is here to discuss traditional clearing models and the role of a clearing house. Not only does JC bring a wealth of knowledge on this topic, but he also owns and operates multiple clearing houses themselves. Get ready to learn about the key players in traditional clearing models and how they facilitate transactions between individuals and companies. JC will also shed light on the changing dynamics of the solar power industry, including the challenges of generating power at night. We'll also explore the exciting developments in the global gas market and its impact on energy trading.Guest bio: JC Kneale is a visionary entrepreneur who revolutionized the energy market in the late 90s. With a background in building power plants, JC recognized the need for transparent prices and timely information in the industry. He took it upon himself to digitize and democratize the market, making prices accessible to as many people as possible. Starting from scratch, JC initially funded the project himself, managing the operation from his checkbook. Beta versions were rolled out to selected US electricity and natural gas customers as the project gained momentum. The overwhelmingly positive response led to exponential growth for the business. With the launch taking place in March, JC and his small team quickly expanded their customer base and established a prominent presence in the market. JC's forward-thinking approach and dedication to transparency have forever transformed the energy industry, earning him a reputation as an influential figure.[00:01:33] How Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) evolved from power trading to globally running futures and equities markets[00:09:06] Intercontinental Exchange acts as a neutral platform, facilitating secure transactions between buyers and sellers through clearing houses[00:12:50] ICE provides a transparent trading platform, vetted by clearing members, ensuring all parties are financially secure[00:15:51] How ICE and ISOs operate symbiotically, each providing unique services that foster market confidence and efficiency in energy trading[00:21:01] Why energy transitions demand market adaptation for changing investment needs and risk management[00:24:57] Why Balancing renewables and traditional sources is critical for investor confidence and market stability[00:30:59] How futures markets like ICE extend investment horizons[00:40:22] Efficiency and transparency in energy markets are becoming more international, affecting both gas and electricity prices[00:48:10] ICE's future is customer-driven, with potential expansion into environmental products and freight[00:57:12] If JC could wave a magic wand to remove one challenge, what would that challenge beLearn more and stay up to date at KnowPowerShow.comConnect with our HostsNoha SidhomLinkedInMike BorgattiLinkedInGabel Associates
