In 1934, legal scholar Adolf Berle wrote a footnote speculating that someone might one day hold a passive property right in active property — what we'd now call a governance token. He called it a problem for another day. For Teresa Goody Guillén, founding partner of Bellamentis and founder of the legal AI platform Sophie Lex, that day is now, and it's reshaping how she advises clients building in digital markets.Teresa joins Ari to trace a career that runs from a plaintiff's law firm and a federal clerkship for Judge Urbina of the US District Court for the District of Columbia, through the SEC's Office of General Counsel and a stint working alongside former SEC Chairman Harvey Pitt, to launching her own law firm built around the convergence of traditional and digital financial markets. Her name has even come up as a potential contender for SEC Chair. The conversation moves from the day-to-day of her practice — clients navigating exemptive relief, subpoenas, and the "security or commodity" question she thinks misses the point — to what she's building next. Through Sophie Lex, she's developing proprietary AI trained on her own legal reasoning to help lawyers work faster without losing judgment, arguing AI should scale lawyers rather than replace them. She also shares her take on SEC Chair Paul Atkins' modernization push and why she thinks exemptive relief, more than new legislation, could unlock effective crypto regulation today.

What exactly is an AI token—and why should you care? You may have never consciously thought about tokens, but you've probably experienced their impact: hitting usage limits, slower AI responses, or unexpectedly high AI bills. My guest today is Gavin Baker, founding partner and CIO of Atreides Management. This is our seventh conversation, and just two months after Gavin's last appearance. It's about the gap between what the market is doing and what companies are seeing. It's been a tough month or so for public AI names, but there's no sign of a slowdown on the ground in Silicon Valley. We discuss the latest moves, contracted vs. spot GPU prices, the game theory of memory supply agreements, and why Claude has become the Walter Cronkite of the stock market. We close on SpaceX, orbital compute, and what Gavin sees as the single biggest risk to all of it. Please enjoy this conversation, from the famous table at Benchmark, with my friend Gavin Baker. We welcome back Brad Blickstein, CEO at Blickstein Group, to discuss how private equity principles may provide law firms with an alternative approach to profitability, governance, and even long-term growth. Blickstein's new book, WWPED: What Would Private Equity Do? was written to walk firms through how treating topics like pricing, technology, talent, and client relationships as part of the enterprise value instead of overhead expenses after year-end partnership distributions.Pulling from Jae Um's topics of Cream, Core, and Commodity framework, Blickstein talks about the legal work as the primary competitive battleground. Much like businesses that provide baked goods, firms have to separate the customized legal judgment from the repeatable legal processes, technology, and what alternative legal services providers offer. Law firm leaders should understand what scalable work is, begin building consistent systems to deliver that work, and truly professionalize pricing over relying upon what a partner's gut tells them.We also cover the Blickstein Group's 2026 Law Firm COO Survey where technology adoption and investment ranks as the leading strategic initiative with 38.1% identified practice silos as the largest structural issue and 27% of COOs listed lack of operational authority as another prime issue. COOs are struggling with being tasked with modernizing law firms, but not given the authority to actually overcome the base issues of decentralized partnerships, competing incentives, and overall firm political structures.Add AI into the mix, and the pricing question becomes even more important. Some two-thirds of the COOs surveyed confessed that they were not formally measuring any return on investment (ROI) in which they could later measure any law productivity or direct revenue increases. Blickstein points out that faster work in a billable hour model is not the type of math that law firms want to calculate, and that firms have to address this directly and redesign their overall pricing model on value received by the client, not hours worked by the lawyers. We all discuss the issues of alternative fee arrangements (AFAs) have face in the more than 30 years since Blickstein originally published an article titled "Alternative Billing Making a Comeback." AFAs bring with it issues of shadow billing, client trust factors, and the need to express value not tied to the amount to time spent on the work.We also break down the corporate buyer side and address the Blickstein Group's 18th Annual Law Department Operations Survey which identifies AI pilot projects in corporate legal departments, but very few operational deployments. These may be tied to the long running issue of poor data hygiene along with business objectives that are not clearly tied to overall corporate strategy.Brad gets to be one of the first to answer our new question of "what's true today that wasn't true a year ago?" A nice lead in to our Crystal Ball question. We cover AI token pricing and having to compete with the new "AI native firms" that are spinning up from former BigLaw partners.Listen on mobile platforms:  Apple Podcasts |  Spotify | YouTube | Substack[Special Thanks to Legal Technology Hub for their sponsoring this episode.]Email: geekinreviewpodcast@gmail.comMusic: Jerry David DeCiccaBlickstein GroupWWPED: What Would Private Equity Do?2026 Law Firm COO Survey findingsLaw Department Operations SurveyCream, Core, and Commodity legal-work frameworkLegaltech Hub: The Arithmetic of AI, Tokens and Claude in Legal WorkLegaltech Hub: Five Prompting Habits Costing You Tokens and AccuracyLegora introduces consumption-based pricingKirkland & Ellis and its $500 million AI investmentAnthropic Claude CodeLINKSTranscript:

Steven Goldfeder, co-founder and CEO of Offchain Labs, the team behind Arbitrum, joins Kain Warwick and Taylor Monahan to work through why. They trace the DPRK crewhacking crews now rotating through bridge exploits, debate whether Uniswap's new permissioned pools point toward tokens that carry real investor rights, and ask Goldfeder whether he would trade Arbitrum's open token for a restricted one only a fraction of the world could hold. #361: Picture a 6,000-line pull request landing in your project from someone you've never heard of. Every test passes - yours, theirs, all of it. And you can tell it was generated. Not assisted. Generated. What do you do with it? Viktor's first move is to poke the premise: how do you even know it was generated and not assisted? You can't. Nobody can. That distinction is already gone. So the real question isn't whether AI wrote it. It's what a maintainer is for. Viktor's answer is blunt - a maintainer's first job is to guide people in and help them contribute, and if you think your job is mainly to write code, you picked the wrong role. The moment you allow PRs, you stopped being an individual contributor and became a manager. That's the job. You don't get to complain about the job you signed up for. Don't want it? Fine - do what Ghostty did, do what curl did, turn PRs off and say so out loud. Just don't hide behind unknown contributors, because every single person on your project was an unknown contributor on their first commit, including you. A software developer says send me anything but a PR and lists four reasons: unknown contributors are a security risk, supply chain attacks are real, style disagreements eat maintainer time across time zones, and LLMs killed code-writing as the bottleneck so the stranger's PR doesn't help with the parts that are still hard. Viktor grants the security point and then points at XZ - social engineering, a long con, zero AI required. The risk was always there. What changed is quantity, not the percentage. And the maintainer who thinks a manual, line-by-line review still works in 2026 is, in his words, terribly wrong. Viktor guesses he can review 6,000 lines in about the time it takes to hand-review 600. CodeRabbit and Greptile clear the obvious junk so he can spend his attention on architecture and the feature itself - the stuff he never had energy for after slogging through nitpicks by hand. His read on the whole backlash: there's a new third group of maintainers now, the ones who aren't good enough with agents to fight agents, and they're the ones falling behind. Writing code is cheap. Reviewing it well is the expensive part - and the ones who refuse to use agents to review are drowning while blaming the contributors. There's a cost angle too. If you don't have tokens, you're in trouble, and not everyone can afford them. Tokens are becoming table stakes, like an internet connection. Which raises the question: what happens to open source when the reviewing tools cost money the maintainer doesn't have?   I don't want your PRs anymore https://dpc.pw/posts/i-dont-want-your-prs-anymore/   YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/devopsparadox   Review the podcast on Apple Podcasts: https://www.devopsparadox.com/review-podcast/   Slack: https://www.devopsparadox.com/slack/   Connect with us at: https://www.devopsparadox.com/contact/

David Soria Parra is an Engineering Lead at Anthropic and one of the core maintainers of the Model Context Protocol (MCP). We explore the biggest evolution of the protocol since its launch, and why MCP is becoming the foundation for the next generation of AI agents. We discuss why MCP is moving toward stateless communication, what developers misunderstand about state, sessions, and transport layers, and how lessons from real-world deployments at massive scale have shaped the protocol's future. We also dive into MCP v2, SDK migrations, protocol design, extension architecture, governance, developer experience, and how Anthropic thinks about balancing simplicity with long-term flexibility.Along the way, we explore progressive disclosure, tool search, programmatic tool calling, context bloat, forward compatibility, long-running AI tasks, protocol evolution, open-source governance, observability, and why the future of AI infrastructure will depend on designing protocols that can evolve without breaking the ecosystem.Timestamps:[00:00] Introduction[01:59] Why MCP Had to Become Stateless[04:28] The Tradeoffs of Stateless Design[06:13] What We Learned About Agent State[08:04] Sessions, Models & Implicit State[09:33] Migrating to MCP v2[12:19] Lessons from HTTP & Open Source Standards[18:16] Shipping Fast Without Breaking Everything[20:35] The Future Complexity of MCP[22:44] Core Features vs Extensions[26:47] Progressive Disclosure Explained[28:16] Solving Context Bloat[30:50] Why Tool Search Beats Progressive Disclosure[32:10] The Biggest MCP Anti-Pattern[34:25] Designing for Forward Compatibility[38:41] Why "Tasks" Matter[40:53] JSON, Tokens & Better Tool Calling[44:44] Observability & Tracing AI Agents[47:34] Will MCP Ever Be Finished?[50:22] What's Next for MCP

You want to put AI to work in your business, but every time you start, the same worry stops you: what happens to your data once it's in there? For a lot of contractors, that single fear is the only thing standing between them and real time savings. In this episode, Khalil and Martin break down the three real security risks with AI, why paying for a team account changes what happens to your data, and when a private, local model is actually worth it. They get into open-source models, HIPAA-sensitive work, tokens and API costs, and what an AI agent really is.If you've been holding off because you don't trust AI with your information, this is the conversation that shows you the way around it.Key Topics & Timestamps00:39 - Episode Intro01:09 - Sunsetting GrowthKits01:54 - Benali Goes AI03:55 - HIPAA and Secure AI Needs09:04 - Security Risks and Local Models28:33 - Skip Fine-Tuning28:59 - Local Models and Privacy30:20 - Tokens and API Costs34:35 - Open Source Model Trust38:35 - Agents and AdoptionMemorable Quotes"If it's free, you are the product." — Khalil"If you're comfortable putting it into a paid Google Drive, you should be comfortable putting it into Claude." — Khalil"A lot of roles will go away, but jobs will not go away." — Khalil"We are doing it. It's not theoretical." — Martin"Just get started, and then all of a sudden you start thinking more and more, and then you're in the game." — MartinKey TakeawaysStop using free AI tools for company work. Free versions train on everything you upload, and your employees are almost certainly doing it right now without a policy in place.Move to paid team or organization accounts. On an org account, training on your data is off by default, which is the baseline protection most contractors actually need.Write an AI policy and train your team on it. Treat unmanaged AI use like a phishing risk; one person uploading client data to a free account is all it takes. For most contractors, a paid team account is enough. If you're comfortable putting a file in a paid Google Drive, you're safe putting it in Claude or ChatGPT.Consider a private, local model when you handle HIPAA data, trade secrets, or heavy API costs. You can run an open-source model on a server you control with zero data retention.Skip fine-tuning your own model. Almost no contractor has the thousands of past projects it takes to justify it, so focus on using AI well and building tooling around it instead.Find the time and money to start now. Raising prices is usually the fastest way to fund it, and the efficiency gains pay it back.ResourcesOllamaQuoNeed help with podcast production? AI is no longer just a race to train smarter models. As AI moves into production, the bottleneck is increasingly inference: how fast models can generate tokens, use tools, reason, verify, and act. In this episode of the MAD Podcast, Matt Turck sits down with Andrew Feldman, co-founder and CEO of Cerebras, to explain why fast inference may define the next era of AI.Cerebras is known for building a chip the size of a silicon wafer. But this conversation is not just about one company or one chip. It is a deep dive into the AI infrastructure stack: GPUs, ASICs, memory, HBM, SRAM, data centers, power, TSMC, AWS, OpenAI, agents, reasoning models, and why speed changes what AI products can become. Andrew explains why “tokens per second per user” matters, why generating a single word can require moving the equivalent of 100 HD movies through memory, why agents amplify latency, why GPUs struggle with certain inference workloads, and why fast AI may eventually reshape SaaS itself. This is a reference conversation on fast inference, AI chips, and the next compute bottleneck.(00:00) Cold open & Intro(01:31) Why speed became the AI bottleneck(02:32) Tokens per second per user, explained(03:16) AI's broadband moment and the Netflix analogy(04:35) The AI chip landscape: GPUs, TPUs, Trainium, ASICs(06:36) What is an ASIC?(08:08) Nvidia, Groq, and the fast inference war(09:16) OpenAI, Broadcom, and specialized silicon(12:10) China, power, and sovereign AI infrastructure(15:05) Is the AI infrastructure boom a bubble?(18:56) The hidden bottlenecks: HBM, CoWoS, and 3nm(22:57) Why agents are creating CPU demand(25:36) Andrew Feldman's path from SeaMicro to Cerebras(26:13) Why Cerebras bet on AI in 2016(31:14) SRAM vs. HBM: why inference is a memory problem(33:19) What wafer-scale computing actually means(34:28) The deep-tech “Everest” problem(36:07) The moment the first Cerebras system worked(36:49) Ringing the bell and surviving deep tech(39:08) How a giant chip handles failure(41:22) Why GPUs struggle with decode(42:17) Prefill vs. decode explained(44:01) The “100 HD movies” problem in AI inference(45:04) How fast inference changes RL and training(48:08) Reasoning models and why they cost more compute(50:08) Verification, guardrails, and small models checking big models(52:37) Multimodal AI and the path to video(53:51) Cerebras' business model: hardware, cloud, and API(55:14) OpenAI's 750MW inference deal(55:36) Why data centers are measured in megawatts(58:01) AWS Trainium + Cerebras decode(59:29) Fast tokens as a cloud product(01:00:52) Is CUDA still a moat?(01:03:53) How TSMC helped Cerebras build the giant chip(01:07:41) Why nobody cared in 2020(01:08:15) Why chip supply chains are hard to diversify(01:09:54) Why today's AI models will be the worst you ever use(01:10:38) What fast AI could do to SaaS

Vladimir Novakovski of Lighter joins the Chopping Block crew to untangle one of crypto's oldest debates: what happens when tokens and equity coexist. The gang digs into the Venice/VVV controversy, breaks down Lighter's new Perps integration with Robinhood Chain and the fragmentation questions it raises, dissects the wild BonkDAO governance exploit, and reacts to the eye-popping $2.4 billion in crypto income disclosed in Trump's financial filings. Welcome to The Chopping Block – where crypto insiders Haseeb Qureshi, Tom Schmidt, Tarun Chitra, and Robert Leshner chop it up about the latest in crypto, joined this week by special guest Vladimir Novakovski of Lighter. The crew dives deep into the resurfaced tokens-versus-equity debate sparked by Dragonfly's investment in Venice and its VVV token, with Haseeb making the case that Venice is fundamentally different from Uniswap Labs style structures. Vlad explains how Lighter has approached the same dilemma through programmatic buybacks and a single C corp structure, and the group debates fiduciary duties, Delaware law, and what a merged DeFi/TradFi future for equity and tokens might look like. From there, they unpack Lighter's big Robinhood Chain announcement, including Lighter's new role as the native Perps engine inside Robinhood Wallet, and whether running a separate instance fragments liquidity. The episode wraps with a breakdown of the BonkDAO governance exploit that let an attacker vote themselves $20 million in tokens, and a reaction to Trump's staggering $2.4 billion in pre-tax crypto income revealed in his latest financial disclosure.
