Jon Jordan and BlockchainGamer.biz editor Jenny Jordan talk through the week's news including:[1:04] Much anticipated mobile game FIFA Rivals is now live via app stores.[2:00] The game includes NFTs on the Mythos chain but doesn't mention blockchain or NFTs at all.[2:45] The gameplay is deeper than Jon thought - you're tapping on players and drawing lines to pass.[5:32 ]The metagame is about getting the best 11 players you can, levelling and training them up.[6:32] Players can only be used a certain number of times, before you have to pay to reup them.[7:10] This could be a way of mitigating the pay-to-win aspect of having powerful NFTs.[8:05] As well as real player NFTs, there are also real club kits - teams in the FIFA Club World Cup.[11:22] There is already a Messi NFT in the game. Very expensive.[12:21] Craft World's play-to-airdrop event for Dyno Coin - called Project Voyager - has gone live.[15:10] The top 25,000 players will get an airdrop. It looks like over 100,000 are now playing.[16:16] A key mechanic is increasing your multipler by spending in-game crystals and other tokens.[19:02] EVE Frontier has launched its new cycle and dropped its previous NDA.[23:51] EVE Frontier is building a valuable blockchain economy from the bottom-up.[26:01] CCP Games has spent a lot of time educating PC game journalists about blockchain.[29:43] Nexon's MapleStory N is another MMOG highlighting the value of blockchain.[30:30] Like CCP Games, Nexon wants to create an ecosystem in which thirdparties can build.[31:12] Its Henesys blockchain peaked at over 80,000 DAUWs this week. [31:52] The MSU marketplace has hit 1 million wallets and $13 million NFT trading volume.[35:28] Why are some KOLs critical of MapleStory N?[38:34] Does this change when we see the first $100,000 NFT in MapleStory N?

Welcome back to The Sunday Roast! After a much-needed break in the Welsh mountains, the lads return with your weekly dose of market insight, political drama, and a few laughs along the way. This week, we look at the UK's latest deal with the EU—designed to ease post-Brexit tensions by improving trade terms and defence ties—but is it a win, or has the UK given away more than it's gained? We're joined by Luke Sartain, CEO of Narwhal Media Group, who talks through the rise of AI-driven lead generation, the vision behind SpotDiff, and how agentic AI is reshaping digital marketing. Luke also shares the latest on their new funding and what's next for the business. On the downside, Totally plc dropped 77% amid restructuring concerns, while Pantheon Resources slid 40% after a disappointing update at Megrez-1. Jon Jordan and BlockchainGamer.biz editor Jenny Jordan talk through the week's news including:[0:28] Following Nyan Heroes, Blast Royale and Tatsumeeko, Ember Sword has shut down.[2:15] The background is a lot of web3 game devs raised their funding back in 2021-22.[4:12] $5 million isn't much money to make a good game, either web2 or web3. [5:07] And most teams raising money were inexperienced. They had never made a game before.[6:15] A team of 10 game devs probably costs around $1 million a year.[6:58] Ambitious games like Nyan Heroes and Ember Sword probably required +50 devs.[7:35] Hence $5-10 million of funding doesn't last very long. It's not a rug or a con.[9:30] If your game's retention isn't good enough, you can never scale or monetize it to success.[11:44] It's very hard to get anyone to play a new game because of Fortnite/Roblox.[15:23] As weaker projects shut down, the top blockchain games become clear.[15:54] Examples? EVE Frontier (thanks for the hat!), [16:51] Also Wildcard, Proof of Play, Mythical Games, Faraway, MapleStory N etc.[22:04] Blast Royale is being open-sourced so the community could continue to develop it.[24:00] Voya Games has bucked the trend, raising $5 million for idle gaming ecosystem Craft World.[26:50] CEO Oli Loeffler has been slowly building the game and company for the past 3 years. [28:10] The game combines individual resource management with collaborative events. [30:56] There's always something to do and blockchain adds a longer term retention layer.[31:34] Your resources in the main game are only valuable if you can get them into the collab events.[33:45] Would Craft World be a good match for Ronin?[35:05] Off The Grid will launch a web2 version on Steam in June.[37:38] The first NFT sales from Off The Grid have started - highest price to-date is over $1,000.[39:30] But some Steam users hate blockchain so the game will likely get review bombed.[41:30] Jon went to the Avalanche Summit London and was impressed with its momentum.[42:34] He also spoke to Nexon's Dominic Jang about MapleStory Universe and MapleStory N's launch.[43:00] The MSU marketplace has done $1.6 million-worth of NFT trading volume.[45:23] Main markets to-date for MapleStory N players are LATAM, Brazil, southeast Asia.[46:25] Success for Nexon isn't about the game, it's about the ecosystem, esp. 3rd party apps.[51:05] Ava Labs' CEO Emin Gün Sirer also spoke well about the overall vision for Avalanche.

[2:25] MapleStory is the OG IP for Nexon - a 2D side-scrolling MMORPG, now with blockchain. [5:00] The NXPC token seems to have launched well on various exchanges, up 30%.[6:14] However, the game is geo-locked for some countries including South Korea, US and UK.[8:45] Its free NFT on OpenSea was minted 1.7 million times, so there's high demand.[10:07] Paradise Tycoon is launching its own Avalanche-based chain - Paradise Chain. [11:14] Pixelmon is also bringing its games to Avalanche.[15:24] The first title to use crypto for IAP payments in an iOS game is Crazy Defense Heroes.[19:12] It's not clear how useful this will be existing web3 mobile games as it will require retrofitting.[20:48] Adding this to Crazy Defense Heroes is likely more experimental than revenue generating.[23:40] Animoca is looking to IPO in the US.[24:15] Animoca was originally floated in Australia but was delisted in 2020. In this episode of The Sunday Roast, recorded on Sunday 11th May, Phil Carroll, Kevin Hornsby, and Charles Archer return with a packed agenda as they unpack a truly historic week. From the Vatican to Washington, Westminster to Wall Street, there's no shortage of headlines. They begin with a landmark moment: the Catholic Church announces its first American-born Pope, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV, bringing a message of unity from the heart of St. Peter's Basilica. Across the Atlantic, Donald Trump's controversial proposal to reopen Alcatraz sparks debate, while a major US-UK trade deal reshapes the automotive and agricultural landscapes with sweeping tariff changes. On the home front, Labour's UK-India trade deal gets mired in political miscommunication despite clear economic benefits. VE Day 80 is commemorated across Britain, but not everyone pauses for reflection—Phil shares an amusing moment from the supermarket. In the markets, the team highlights this week's movers including Symphony Environmental, Mosman Oil and Gas, Surface Transforms, Empyrean Energy, and Mast Energy Developments—whose CEO Pieter Krügel joins for an exclusive update. They also discuss Conroy Gold's latest antimony discovery and Alien Metals' drilling progress at Elizabeth Hill. With central banks adjusting interest rates, gold and silver diverging, and AIM showing signs of revival, the team explores where smart money might be heading. In sport, McLaren's Oscar Piastri continues his winning streak in Miami, Arsenal crash out of the Champions League, and Manchester United set up a dramatic Europa League final showdown with Spurs. This week's guest is Charles Bray, Executive Chairman of Aterian Plc, who joins us to discuss how geopolitical tensions and resource nationalism are reshaping the critical minerals landscape. We get the lowdown on Aterian's game-changing $4.5 million trade finance deal in Rwanda and their recent £468,000 convertible bond raise aimed at boosting exploration in Morocco, Botswana, and beyond. Plus, we revisit our “12 for 2025” watchlist with a progress check and updated outlook, and wrap up with all the movers and shakers making waves in the markets this week. In this episode of The Sunday Roast, the team welcomes Shaun Day, Managing Director of Greatland Gold, to discuss the company's recent strategic developments, including the surrender of over 497 million share options by directors and senior employees. This move aligns with Greatland's upcoming dual listing on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) and the establishment of a new Australian-incorporated parent company, Greatland Resources Limited. The surrender aims to reduce potential shareholder dilution and adhere to ASX corporate governance principles . Additionally, Joe Belladonna, CEO of Harena Resources, joins to provide insights into their 75%-owned Ampasindava rare earths project in Madagascar. The project boasts a JORC-compliant resource estimate of 698.5 million tonnes and has demonstrated high recovery rates for critical magnet metals like neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium, and terbium through environmentally friendly heap leach processes . The discussion also covers the broader implications of China's export controls on rare earth elements, the week's major news stories including Trump's tariffs and the passing of Pope Benedict, and a roundup of market movers and shakers. People have been collecting gems ever since.[3:45] However, it wasn't clear what the purpose or value of these gems was.[4:10] Main Quest has been renamed Perpetual Rewards. You can earn more gems by playing games. [5:05] Your wallet has to be verified by phone number and social login. [5:34] You buy one key per wallet for 500 gems that drops random rewards, mainly IMX tokens.[6:51] In the first week, I got an epic key, which dropped around $30 of IMX. Pixels.[13:16] Immortal Rising 2 has seen a 91% decline in DAUWs since its IMT token launch.[14:52] Treasure and Aavegotchi have both announced they are shutting down their L3s.[17:07] Companies launched L3s in 2024 because they could sell new tokens to investors.[17:50] But these chains cost money to operate and their games didn't have (m)any users.[19:35[]Treasure said its chain cost $450,000 a year to operate.[23:48] An investor has tweeted Off The Grid has +200,000 MAUs and +$14M in annual runrate.[27:09] Jon is conflicted about Off The Grid; "I want it to work but there's a lack of transparency".[32:34] KGeN has announced it's setting up its MENA HQ in Bahrain. [5:13] It lost $50 million on revenue of $27 million.[6:20] This compared to a loss of $31 million on sales of $19 million in FY21/22.[8:35] It still has around $140 million in cash and liquid crypto in the bank.[15:05] Immutable's revenues are rising but clearly it also needs to cut costs and have a hit game. [17:43] At least six blockchain games are now developing for console.[26:17] Gabe Leydon was talking up Apptokens at GDC 2025. Jon loves Apptokens. [30:26] Other blockchain games are already using similar features to those in the Apptokens standard.[33:20] Gabe's view is that crypto has become web2-focused. It needs to be less focused on CEXs.[36:04] Jurassic Park dinos are coming to The Sandbox in Alpha Season 5. [40:24] YGG is launching a simple Pudgy Penguins-themed Monopoly Go-style game on Abstract.

Jon Jordan and BlockchainGamer.biz editor Jenny Jordan talk through the week's news including:[0:34] Much anticipated game Wildcard dropped its whitepaper.[1:09] CEO Paul Bettner worked on Age of Empires, created Words With Friends. Very smart.[3:00] This was the first time we got insight about how its blockchain works and it's not the game. [4:08] The blockchain bit is Thousands, an integrated Twitch-like spectator platform.[4:34] Wildcard is a F2P PC/console game with cosmetic IAPs. No NFTs. No crypto. [5:40] The WC token is 100% for the community. 20% has already been airdropped. [6:32] You can stake the token and also use it for prediction markets about the game's esport events.[7:55] There will also be Wildorgs, which will act as team franchises.[8:51] It looks like Wildcard will use blockchain for the things it's good for.[10:36] It's interesting that the developer and the investors aren't getting any tokens.[12:33] While Wildcard isn't using Apptokens, we see more games using Apptoken-style controls.[14:31] Pre-registrations for Axie Infinity: Atia's Legacy have passed 2.5 million.[24:44] For a successful web3 game, you need people spending fiat currency as well.[26:06] Even in this market, some games are growing - Alien Worlds, Nine Chronicles, Axie etc.[27:42] What's interesting are games that couldn't exist without using [35:47] "If EVE Online is Rome, EVE Frontier is the building of New York," says CCP Games' CEO.[38:46] EVE Frontier: it's like CCP Games building a specific sandbox platform for EVE games.[40:25] What's really interesting is what new sort of games can we build with blockchain.

[4:03] It's testing Project Dragon, a FPS which reach 2,197 concurrent players - a new world record. [5:40] It uses Improbable's MSquared networking tech to handle this in a cost effective manner. [7:05] Improbable has also launched a new blockchain called Somnia. [8:38] It claims to handle 1 million transactions per second. [9:48] Why do we need another blockchain? The dial-up vs broadband comparison. [11:37] Improbable's CEO thinks web3 gaming is too insular and focused on token price. [14:45] Wemade's latest web3 MMORPG Legends of Ymir is #1 on Google Play [17:30] Wemade has been successful with web3-gated MMORPG like Mir and Night Crows. [19:10] These games are grindy. [26:55] Netmarble has revealed the 7 games it's bringing to Immutable in 2025. [32:50] It's not clear (to Jon) Netmarble has worked out the best strategy for its web3 games. [37:02] What is Immutable's signature blockchain game? What title is bringing in new players? [41:09] It's unclear (to Jon) why Immutable isn't pushing highend games like Space Nation more. [42:50] The very strange case of TOKYO BEAST. [48:56] Social deduction game The Mystery Society is shutting down ... or will it be saved?
