Memecoins?[0:52] Animoca's Robby Yung will be the new CEO as Animoca exerts more control over the project.[1:30] To a degree, the news is only "big" because its The Sandbox, which everyone knows.[3:25] Animoca is annoyed because it wanted to announce the restructure and new vision in the [4:10] Things have been going very slowly at The Sandbox. Change was needed.[7:19] Despite these changes, The Sandbox will still have nine offices globally.[10:40] From the outside, it looks like The Sandbox has suffered from a lack of strategy.[12:13] The Sandbox will be announcing a "big new project" a couple of months.[13:34] This project seems to be about expanding the scope of the SAND token.[17:51] Jon's wild rumor. A SAND treasury company? Fronted by Barron Trump? Stranger things...[19:12] Mobile game Pudgy Party is out today with a Steal a Brainrot collab.[22:10] It's a cute battle royale game with lots of customization and light combat options.[23:01] The concept is Mythical does the game, Pudgy Penguins brings the marketing. Jon Jordan and Jenny Jordan talk through the week's news including:[0:35] Proof of Play is shutting down fully onchain game Pirate Nation.[3:08] As well as combat, it had a deep crafting system but never attracted enough players. [4:00] Its play-to-airdrop seasons artificially boosted audience but not revenues. [6:06] The main reason it shut was it cost $150,000 a month to run the underlying blockchains.[7:45] The PVE mode from the game is now available to play on the Abstract blockchain. [8:40] NFT holders will get a final airdrop of PIRATE tokens.[9:00] Proof of Play will continue to operate, focusing on "profitable business operations".[14:30] Ronin strategy game Wild Forest is rebooting, including a new PVE campaign. [18:45] The WF token is up 400% but still down 80% from its original launch.[21:26] South Korean game item marketplace Overtake has raised $7 million.[24:52] It's a web3 project based on existing web2 markets ItemBay and ItemMania. [25:33] Splinterlands has launched its cheeky $500,000 Crypto Game Recovery Fund.[27:35] It's giving assets to holders of NFTs from games which have shut down. [32:53] TGC Project O has been announced for Immutable.

In this episode of The Sunday BBQ, Phil and Kevin serve up another sizzling mix of market movers, news, and corporate updates. Charles Archer joins us for a round up of the week's key share price moves, small cap headlines, and what's hot (and not) across the markets. We're also joined by Malcolm Palle (Executive Chairman) and Eddy Travia (CEO) of Coinsilium Group (AQSE:COIN), the digital asset investor and venture builder. With over a decade in the blockchain space, Coinsilium has just added another £5 million in Bitcoin to its treasury via its Gibraltar based subsidiary Forza! We dig into their treasury strategy, the recent share price pressure, and what catalysts could drive the next re rate. Later in the episode, Oliver Friesen, CEO of Guardian Metal Resources (LON:GMET), joins us to discuss their expanded footprint at the Pilot North Tungsten Project in Nevada. Following encouraging rock sample assays and additional claim staking, Guardian is building serious momentum across its US tungsten portfolio. 00:00 - 00:05:35 Weekly News Roundup  00:05:35 #COIN Interview 00:45:43 #GMET Interview 01:08:29 #BZT  01:09:45 #AFP  01:11:09 #GLR  01:12:57 #XTR  01:14:11 #GGP  01:18:17 #AMRQ  01:19:37 #COBR  01:22:43 #JLP  01:24:55 #PR1  01:26:17 #TIR  01:26:57 #IMM  01:27:23 #SVNS  01:32:26 #ATN  01:34:55 #INC  Disclaimer & Declaration of Interest This podcast may contain paid promotions, including but not limited to sponsorships, endorsements, or affiliate partnerships. Jon Jordan and Jenny Jordan talk through the week's news including:[0:52] Jon's been talking to MMOG veteran John Smedley about new FPS Reaper Actual.[2:30] What's interesting about the project is how perceptions about web3 have shaped its vision.[4:31] Steam doesn't allow blockchain and some of the Steam community hates blockchain. [4:51] So the web3 version of Reaper Actual will only be available via its own website.[5:45] Splitting the game into web2 and web3 versions isn't strong from a marketing pov.[8:30] The problem is they'll have a web3 game with most players playing the web2 version.[11:57] Shrapnel has raised $19.5 million for its global launch in Q1 2026.[13:03] It's funny to see how all the Avalanche fanboys ignore Shrapnel now it's moved to Gala.[18:05] Fully onchain game Craft World now accounts for 50% of all transactions on Ronin. No allocation for team, investors or KOLs.[6:42] If you want to cash out from Craft World, you need to buy a $8 Pro Account. This stops bots.[12:48] Shrapnel has ditched Avalanche and is moving to GalaChain. [16:37] The project has had many issues, mainly with its initial investor, also a high burnrate. [6:56] They've raised $30.5 million, which I don't think you'd get if this wasn't a blockchain game. [8:03] The game is a persistent loot shooter, which is a hard genre to get right.[11:38] Realistically this is a web2 game with optional web3 elements. I'm not sure that [13:54] John Smedley's background is MMOGs like EverQuest and PlanetSide but he's not a designer.[15:21] Mythical players are now live in FIFA Rivals. Lionel Messi costs $11,000. Jon Jordan and BlockchainGamer.biz editor Jenny Jordan talk through the week's news including:[1:04] Much anticipated mobile game FIFA Rivals is now live via app stores.[2:00] The game includes NFTs on the Mythos chain but doesn't mention blockchain or NFTs at all.[2:45] The gameplay is deeper than Jon thought - you're tapping on players and drawing lines to pass.[5:32 ]The metagame is about getting the best 11 players you can, levelling and training them up.[6:32] Players can only be used a certain number of times, before you have to pay to reup them.[7:10] This could be a way of mitigating the pay-to-win aspect of having powerful NFTs.[8:05] As well as real player NFTs, there are also real club kits - teams in the FIFA Club World Cup.[11:22] There is already a Messi NFT in the game. Very expensive.[12:21] Craft World's play-to-airdrop event for Dyno Coin - called Project Voyager - has gone live.[15:10] The top 25,000 players will get an airdrop. It looks like over 100,000 are now playing.[16:16] A key mechanic is increasing your multipler by spending in-game crystals and other tokens.[19:02] EVE Frontier has launched its new cycle and dropped its previous NDA.[23:51] EVE Frontier is building a valuable blockchain economy from the bottom-up.[26:01] CCP Games has spent a lot of time educating PC game journalists about blockchain.[29:43] Nexon's MapleStory N is another MMOG highlighting the value of blockchain.[30:30] Like CCP Games, Nexon wants to create an ecosystem in which thirdparties can build.[31:12] Its Henesys blockchain peaked at over 80,000 DAUWs this week. [31:52] The MSU marketplace has hit 1 million wallets and $13 million NFT trading volume.[35:28] Why are some KOLs critical of MapleStory N?[38:34] Does this change when we see the first $100,000 NFT in MapleStory N?

That doesn't mean most web3 games succeed.[6:21] You can now nominate the best use of blockchain in a mobile game in the Mobile Game Awards.[6:59] Mobile football game FIFA Rivals goes live on Thursday 12th June via app stores.[8:33] Precursor NFL Rivals provides a solid foundation for the gameplay and NFT trading aspects.[10:31] The game has also done a multi-year licensing deal with Adidas.[11:25] Jon will be amazed if FIFA Rivals doesn't do tens of millions of downloads.[13:25] 10-20% chance it's the next big hit when it comes to blockchain games. [13:55] EVE Frontier is launching its new era and lifting NDA restrictions this weekend.[16:56] Voya Games' Craft World will launch on Ronin this summer. Jon Jordan and BlockchainGamer.biz editor Jenny Jordan talk through the week's news including:[0:28] Following Nyan Heroes, Blast Royale and Tatsumeeko, Ember Sword has shut down.[2:15] The background is a lot of web3 game devs raised their funding back in 2021-22.[4:12] $5 million isn't much money to make a good game, either web2 or web3. [5:07] And most teams raising money were inexperienced. They had never made a game before.[6:15] A team of 10 game devs probably costs around $1 million a year.[6:58] Ambitious games like Nyan Heroes and Ember Sword probably required +50 devs.[7:35] Hence $5-10 million of funding doesn't last very long. It's not a rug or a con.[9:30] If your game's retention isn't good enough, you can never scale or monetize it to success.[11:44] It's very hard to get anyone to play a new game because of Fortnite/Roblox.[15:23] As weaker projects shut down, the top blockchain games become clear.[15:54] Examples? EVE Frontier (thanks for the hat!), [16:51] Also Wildcard, Proof of Play, Mythical Games, Faraway, MapleStory N etc.[22:04] Blast Royale is being open-sourced so the community could continue to develop it.[24:00] Voya Games has bucked the trend, raising $5 million for idle gaming ecosystem Craft World.[26:50] CEO Oli Loeffler has been slowly building the game and company for the past 3 years. [28:10] The game combines individual resource management with collaborative events. [30:56] There's always something to do and blockchain adds a longer term retention layer.[31:34] Your resources in the main game are only valuable if you can get them into the collab events.[33:45] Would Craft World be a good match for Ronin?[35:05] Off The Grid will launch a web2 version on Steam in June.[37:38] The first NFT sales from Off The Grid have started - highest price to-date is over $1,000.[39:30] But some Steam users hate blockchain so the game will likely get review bombed.[41:30] Jon went to the Avalanche Summit London and was impressed with its momentum.[42:34] He also spoke to Nexon's Dominic Jang about MapleStory Universe and MapleStory N's launch.[43:00] The MSU marketplace has done $1.6 million-worth of NFT trading volume.[45:23] Main markets to-date for MapleStory N players are LATAM, Brazil, southeast Asia.[46:25] Success for Nexon isn't about the game, it's about the ecosystem, esp. 3rd party apps.[51:05] Ava Labs' CEO Emin Gün Sirer also spoke well about the overall vision for Avalanche.

[11:14] Pixelmon is also bringing its games to Avalanche.[15:24] The first title to use crypto for IAP payments in an iOS game is Crazy Defense Heroes.[19:12] It's not clear how useful this will be existing web3 mobile games as it will require retrofitting.[20:48] Adding this to Crazy Defense Heroes is likely more experimental than revenue generating.[23:40] Animoca is looking to IPO in the US.[24:15] Animoca was originally floated in Australia but was delisted in 2020. People have been collecting gems ever since.[3:45] However, it wasn't clear what the purpose or value of these gems was.[4:10] Main Quest has been renamed Perpetual Rewards. You can earn more gems by playing games. [5:05] Your wallet has to be verified by phone number and social login. [5:34] You buy one key per wallet for 500 gems that drops random rewards, mainly IMX tokens.[6:51] In the first week, I got an epic key, which dropped around $30 of IMX. [8:00] This week, the total prize pool was $230,000-worth of IMX. It drops to $90,000 next week. [9:08] The top wallet in week 1 won around $9,000 of IMX.[10:26] How effective will this system be in terms of engaging players in Immutable games?[11:49] It is part of a wider trend to target rewards to your most committed players c.f. Pixels.[13:16] Immortal Rising 2 has seen a 91% decline in DAUWs since its IMT token launch.[14:52] Treasure and Aavegotchi have both announced they are shutting down their L3s.[17:07] Companies launched L3s in 2024 because they could sell new tokens to investors.[17:50] But these chains cost money to operate and their games didn't have (m)any users.[19:35[]Treasure said its chain cost $450,000 a year to operate.[23:48] An investor has tweeted Off The Grid has +200,000 MAUs and +$14M in annual runrate.[27:09] Jon is conflicted about Off The Grid; "I want it to work but there's a lack of transparency".[32:34] KGeN has announced it's setting up its MENA HQ in Bahrain.
