In ABBOTT & COSTELLO's charmingly SPOOKTACULAR comedy THE TIME OF THEIR LIVES, two ghosts (LOU COSTELLO & MARJORIE REYNOLDS) falsely accused of being traitors during the Revolutionary War must find a lost letter from George Washington that will prove their innocence and break their curse...all while scaring the pants of their manor home's current residents! Despite sharing almost no scenes together, this is one of the comic duo's best comedies and one of my all-time favorite comfort films. What's Halloween without a classic ghost story? You'll never have to know, because for this episode I'm revisiting one of my all-time favorite haunted house films: THE UNINVITED directed by LEWIS ALLEN and starring RAY MILLAND and RUTH HUSSEY as a bickering brother-sister duo who, on a whim, purchase that old abandoned mansion on the edge of that spooky cliff without ever dreaming the place is very, very haunted. And whatever evil force haunts those halls seems hellbent on destroying their shy but beautiful young neighbor, played by GAIL RUSSELL. With their hands tied by the Hayes Decency Code, the filmmakers had to "queer code" even more of the story than I realized the last time I covered this movie, so it turns out there are more secret lesbian characters in that house than there are ghosts! JOSH KREBS and LIZ RICHARDS from BLOODY DATE NIGHT are here to class up the show and help me sort through THE UNINVITED's many mysteries, both on and off-screen, as well as it's heartbreaking real-life tragedy. So get ready for some early gay Hollywood history, a lot of inappropriate giggling and one hell of a scary ghost story! _____ EVERY DAY IS HALLOWEEN A Fundraiser for New Alternatives For Homeless LGBT Youth Donate directly at (http://bit.ly/squadqueenz) This episode was recorded with SQUADCAST: Remote Interviews for Professional Podcasters. Once upon a time there was an Upper West Side Sex Cult in NYC. It attracted the likes of Jackson Pollock and intellectuals from NYC. Saul B. Newton and his wife founded the Sullivan Institute for Research in Psychoanalysis in 1957. They believed the traditional family ties were the root cause of mental illness and a monogamous lifestyle reinforced the dysfunction. The patients and therapists lived in a commune together- with the patients encouraged to sever ties with their families. Christmas is right around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than to murder-ize your favorite holiday romance? Liz and Josh from Bloody Date Night join Janine to tear into a beloved Christmas movie: Love Actually (2003). Clouded by a star-studded cast, this jam-packed collection of interwoven love stories is either a movie you defend passionately or hate fiercely.
