First, Greg interviews Christie Shinn, owner of Horatora Studios and writer/artist of Demon Bitch "Triggered". You can go and back Demon Bitch on Kickstarter while you still can. You can also follow Christie by heading over to: https://linktr.ee/HoraToraStudios This book was inspired by true events (like everything else) COVID-19 sucked for everyone and it brought out all the stupid. I got pro and anti-whatever and whomsoever and other bullshit people screaming and shaming at me in Dolby - then getting pointlessly mad and forgetting about it at all. Christie Shinn Next, Greg interviews Michael Tanner and Don Nguyen to talk about their ongoing Kickstarter Campaign for Battle Grapple Rebel. In the far future, humanity has an expanded to the distant stars and planets and the most popular form of entertainment is the BATTLE GRAPPLE. We follow an aspiring new grappler, Spin Kilter, fresh from his training at the famous Coach Moonah's Gym and trying to make a name for himself as an indie grappler. BATTLE GRAPPLE: REBEL is the story of how one man, just trying to follow his dream, can spark a revolution! Casey Bowker & Ruben Romero join me today to review Scream & Scream 2. The sleepy little town of Woodsboro just woke up screaming. There's a killer in their midst who's seen a few too many scary movies. Suddenly nobody is safe, as the psychopath stalks victims, taunts them with trivia questions, then rips them to bloody shreds. It could be anybody... Scream was written by Kevin Williamson, directed by Wes Craven, and distributed by Dimension Films. It stars Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courtney Cox, Mathew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, and Drew Barrymore. Scream was credited with revitalizing the horror genre of the 1990s, after the influx of direct-to-video horror titles and sequels. It combined the slasher genre with comedy, satire, and a whodunit mystery. Sydney, Randy, Dewey, and Gale survived the events of the first "Scream," but their nightmare isn't over. When two college students are murdered at a sneak preview of "Stab," a movie based on the events from the first film, it's clear a copycat killer is on the loose. Sydney and her fellow survivors have to find out who is behind this new murder spree before they all end up dead. Scream 2 was released a year later, with Williamson and Craven coming back as, writer and director. The sequel was developed while writing the initial script for Scream. It was considered a financial success on par with Scream, which helped spawn further sequels. Casey Bowker and Ruben Romero Casey Bowker has been a great friend of the podcast, coming back to talk about several different movies and talking about his various projects. You can follow him by heading over to www.dfatcomics.com or following him on Twitter and Instagram. Ruben Romero joined us to talk Inferi, and proudly showed his love for Scream. It is being released by Second Sight Publishing & Source Point Press on March 31, 2021, on a monthly basis. "Meet Special Agent Malcolm Bram, an FBI agent tasked to investigate a tragedy that's being called, "The Cult of Dracula Mass Suicides”. According to the media, members of a reclusive religious movement committed ritual suicide in a macabre event reminiscent of Jonestown. The truth is much darker and far more bloody." Lyndon White joins us to talk about the 2011 psychological thriller drama, "We Need to Talk About Kevin". The screenplay was written by Ramsay and Rory Stewart Kinner, based on the novel of the same name. The movie stars Tilda Swinton, John C. Riley, and Ezra Miller. "Eva Khatchadourian is a travel writer/publisher who gives up her beloved freedom and bohemian lifestyle to have a child with her husband, Franklin. Pregnancy does not seem to agree with Eva, but what's worse, when she does give birth to a baby boy named Kevin, she can't seem to bond with him. When Kevin grows from a fussy, demanding toddler into a sociopathic teen, Eva is forced to deal with the aftermath of her son's horrific act." We are back with another set of creator interviews. First, we speak Kevin Garcia and Emmanuel Valtierra about their ongoing Kickstarter campaign for "Teoatl". You can follow the Kickstarter page by following the link: http://kck.st/2ZzaU5r. "The story of "Teoatl" is the story of Mexico. The people popularly known as Aztecs called themselves Mexica, and while the story of their fall has been told and retold at least 400 times, the story of their rise - the founding of the great city of Tenochtitlan - is one more people need to know. Schoolchildren might learn about the Aztecs leaving on a journey guided by the war god Huichtilopochtli, ending when they find an eagle holding a snake on a cactus growing from a stone - but a lot happened in leading up to that iconic moment. And that's the story we're going to tell." You can learn more about Kevin Garica at www.kevingarcia.com or www.monomythic.com. You can check out Emmanuel Valtierra's work at www.emmanuelvaltierraillustrator.com or follow him on Instagram. We also have an interview with Miles Greb, creator of "After the Goldrush". "After the Gold Rush is a return to optimistic Science-Fiction. It follows Scout, the last scientist, as she returns to Earth to find it in a state of wilderness. She lands on her ancestral home of Earth and instead of the Star Trek-like utopia she was expecting...she encounters a lush and natural Earth. But in this new frontier, it appears Science has been traded away." You can keep up with Miles by heading over to https://www.afterthegoldrush.space/ or following him on Twitter & Instagram. This week we welcome back Mike Shea (Miskatonic High) & D.W. Kann (Lovecraft P.I.) to talk about their 2 issue crossover event "Miskatonic High Meets Lovecraft P.I." We first talked with Mike Shea (episode 48) and D.W. Kann (episode 49) in May 2019 about their respective series. The art and tone of these series are so different, I would have never thought of these two worlds colliding. It's the crossover we didn't deserve, but definitely the crossover we needed. J. Gonzo joins me to talk about the trade paperback edition of "La Mano del Destino". It is currently running on Kickstarter for another 47 days as of the day of this post. "La Mano del Destino" will be collecting issues #1-6 and is going to include a translated Spanish version of the complete story along with the English Version in a Flipbook format (that way neither language seems like an addendum or afterthought to the other). "La Mano del Destino," tells the tale of a once-champion Luchador – who, after being betrayed by his friends and unmasked in the ring, agrees to a Faustian bargain with a mysterious promoter. He gains a new power and the identity of La Mano del Destino in order to exact revenge upon his betrayers. Set in a swanky, 1960's Mexico where Lucha Libre is intrinsically woven into all aspects of society and are the most important events that happen within this world, this tale winds its way through the machinations and motivations of all types who inhabit this unique setting. Michael Tanner joins us this week to review 1988's They Live. John Carpenter wrote and directed this cult classic. They Live is based on Ray Nelson's short story, “Eight O'Clock in the Morning”. It stars Roddy Piper, Keith David, and Meg Foster. The movie debuted #1 in North America in its first week, but it received mostly negative reviews. The film was heavily criticized for its social commentary, but later enjoyed a cult following. This seems to be a pattern with early John Carpenter films. Most notably, the movie has entered pop-culture and has influenced street art. “Nada, a wanderer without meaning in his life, discovers a pair of sunglasses capable of showing the world the way it truly is. Nada notices that both the media and the government are comprised of subliminal messages meant to keep the population subdued. He discovers that most of the social elite are skull-faced aliens bent on world domination. With this shocking discovery, Nada fights to free humanity from the mind-controlling aliens.” Michael Tanner Michael Tanner is a co-creator of “Junior Braves of the Apocalypse” along with co-host Greg Smith. This week the Nerds discuss the 1982's The Thing. Shea (All Crime, No Cattle) joins us this week as we talk about why The Thing is among our favorite horror movies. John Carpenter directed the movie and it stars Kurt Russell & Keith David. It is based on 1938 Sci-fi novella, “Who Goes There?” by John W. Campbell, Jr. Critics gave it mostly negative reviews at the time of its release, but more recently gained cult status. "In remote Antarctica, a group of American research scientists are disturbed at their base camp by a helicopter shooting at a sled dog. When they take in the dog, it brutally attacks both human beings and canines in the camp and they discover that the beast can assume the shape of its victims. A resourceful helicopter pilot and the camp doctor lead the camp crew in a battle against the vicious creature." We welcomed Travis Webb to talk about his upcoming project Starlite. Originally this episode was recorded as a double episode, as Travis stayed on to talk about a couple of episodes of Tales From the Crypt. We have decided to re-release it as two separate episodes. Make sure to join us for episode 62, as we review another 4 episodes of Tales From the Crypt. The creative team for Starlite consists of Brett, Greg, and Travis; three friends with shared experiences in creative media, rave culture, Burning Man, and drinking at comic conventions. Our very own Greg Smith is one of the creators of this project. "What happens to child superheroes after they're all grown up? Do they end up like countless Hollywood child stars: a heroic past haunting their present, forgotten by the pop-culture zeitgeist only to be recalled in nostalgic listicles on YouTube?" You can follow the project and back it by heading over to Kickstarter. Follow Travis Webb on Twitter.
