Let’s be honest, some ‘friends’ are really just people we know. In fact, some of them are the opposite of kind, caring and loving towards us. So, not friends at all.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Should we avoid hanging with the ungodly or should we hang with the ungodly? The answer is yes! It's both. Pastor Richard explains in the final instalment of “Friending” with a sermon entitled…”UNfriending”.
In this episode of the Faith Driven Entrepreneur Podcast, Dr. Bryan Loritts joins Joey Honescko and William Norvell to discuss the importance of deep, long-lasting friendships in the context of entrepreneurship. Pulling from his new book, Enduring Friendships: Sticking Together in an Age of Unfriending, Dr. Loritts emphasizes the need for what he calls “soul friends.” These are the people whom we can bear our souls with and who can provide guidance and support in our journeys. He also highlights the challenges that entrepreneurs face in maintaining lasting friendships, such as being productivity-driven and lacking time for people. He provides practical advice on finding and nurturing these enduring friendships, including putting oneself in the right environments and being intentional about prioritizing relationships. There's a little book in the New Testament that doesn't get as much love as it should. The book is Philemon – it's a letter from Paul to a man named Philemon whose slave, Onesimus had runaway but was led to Christ by Paul. It's a beautiful picture of reconciliation – and helpful for us as we think about how to better reconcile relationships. We know that relationships come with all sorts of difficulties, but there are also biblical ways to maintain healthy relationships and reconcile them when they break or run into difficulty. For today's episode, host Jason Wieland is joined by Bryan Loritts, teaching pastor at Summit Church in North Carolina and author of the new book, Enduring Friendship: Sticking Together in an Age of Unfriending. In this episode, Bryan and Jason talk about why it's hard to maintain friendships, God's message through the book of Philemon, and how to live out a healthy relationship through Truth, Repentence, and Grace. Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by Saddleback Church Content Development Pastor Jason Wieland. It premiered in 2017 and now offers more than 370 episodes. UNFRIENDING is a dark comedy of manners about a group of friends that includes Blake and his girlfriend, May. The dinner party is the cover story for a 'life intervention' that focuses on the outcast of the group, Isaac, where the friend group tells him all the reasons he has become a burden to them and society in general, and that he should really just kill himself already. This off-kilter comedy is brought to life by a talented cast that includes Sean Meldrum, Simone Jetsun, Michael Pearson, Jenna Vittoria, Rachelle Lauzon, Honor Spencer, Golden Madison, and Alex Stone. After years of turning the Canadian film scene on its head with their fiercely independent, trend-bucking works, Toronto's dynamic duo, The Butler Brothers (Jason & Brett), join us to talk what inspired this dark comedy, their first US theatrical release in Unfriending, and working together for the last 20 years writing, directing, producing and editing. The plaintiff says she and the defendant went to a '70s party in Atlantic City and they were supposed to share a suite. She claims the defendant threw her out in the middle of the night, so she's suing for what she's owed. The defendant says the plaintiff got to the room and said it smelled and she didn't want to stay there. She denies owing a thing. Then, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to fix her fridge, which was freezing over. She says he didn't repair a thing and he charged her an arm and a leg. She's suing for what she's owed. The defendant says he told the plaintiff she needed a new part that would take six weeks because of COVID, and she freaked and demanded a refund. He alleges her family also threatened him. Welcome back to the High Heels and Tea Podcast! For this episode, Crystal and Reonda have a girl chat about the topic: Unfriending Someone in Real Life, not just on social media. We are all adults here. Some of us act more of an adult than others, but I think we have all reached the age where we should know it's okay to distance ourselves from people who do not compliment our lifestyles. And that grand justified reason, could just be about your boundaries. I rather walk away from something than to stay with it longer than its expiration date. HIGHLIGHTS 1. How often do you asses your friendships and how they're aligned with who you are? 2. When was the last time you had to distance yourself from a friend and why 3. What do you think about re-friending someone you had to unfriend --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/high-heels--tea-podcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/high-heels--tea-podcast/support

http://bible.com/events/48836948 James and Unfriending the World Choose your friends wisely. James 4:4-6 You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us? But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” -James says this: choosing friendship with the world is cheating. We commit adultery. -The closer we move toward “the world,” the further we move away from God. Two critical questions we must ask in response to this text: 1. What does it mean to be a friend of the world? 2. What do I do in response? What does it mean to be a friend of the world? -It means our loyalty is ultimately to the things of this world. They are the priority. They are the focus, They are the foundation upon which our life is built. -The root of sin is ultimately a desire for 'self' above all. Sin comes down to a desire for 'self' over God's best. -So a friend of the world is one who is loyal to the desires of 'self' above anything else. Matthew 10:32-33 “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. What do I do in response? What do I do if my loyalty is divided? -James provides good news in the midst of difficult words: "Be He gives more grace" (James 4:6). -Grace is available even when we have been disloyal and unfaithful. -And this grace from God is offered to those who are willing to humble themselves. This is why James references Proverbs 3:34. -If friendship with the world is a loyalty to 'self', then perhaps the closer we are to true humility, the further we are from the world. The bottom line: Choose your friends wisely. Other verses for further study/reflection: James 4:4-6 You're cheating on God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way. And do you suppose God doesn't care? The proverb has it that “he's a fiercely jealous lover.” And what he gives in love is far better than anything else you'll find. It's common knowledge that “God goes against the willful proud; God gives grace to the willing humble.” Matthew 10:32-39 “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn “ ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.' “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it. Other verses: Exodus 34:14 1 John 2:15-18 John 15:18 Romans 12:2 John 18:36 James in 8 Minutes This overview video on the book of James breaks down the literary design of the book and its flow of thought. In this book, James combines the wisdom of his brother Jesus with the book of Proverbs in his own challenging call to live a life wholly devoted to God. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qn-hLHWwRYY
