This podcast episode delves into the animated feature film "Transformers: The Movie," a significant entry in the Transformers franchise, released on August 8, 1986. We commence by acknowledging its historical relevance, particularly as it marks the final role of the esteemed actor Scatman Crothers during his lifetime, alongside the notable Orson Welles, who completed his dialogue mere days before his passing. The crux of our discussion centers on the film's narrative, which encapsulates the Autobots' struggle against the colossal planet-eating entity, Unicron, while simultaneously defending against an assault from the Decepticons. Throughout the episode, we reflect on the film's choppy storytelling and its reliance on nostalgia, which may render it less accessible to those unfamiliar with the broader Transformers universe. Ultimately, we offer our critical assessments, juxtaposing our personal experiences with the film against its cultural significance and legacy within the realm of animated cinema.Visit Our Sponsor: https://dubby.gg10% Off Code: OURVERDICTSupport us:https://www.patreon.com/whatsourverdictEmail us:hosts@whatsourverdict.comFollow us:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/whatsourverdictTwitter: @whatsourverdictInstagram: @whatsourverdictYouTube: https://youtube.com/channel/UC-K_E-ofs3b85BnoU4R6liAVisit us:www.whatsourverdict.com

John Hudson and I take on a classic Blaxploitation film! TRUCK TURNER (1974) stars the great Isaac Hayes as the titular character, a modern-day bounty hunter in Los Angeles. Along with his partner he tracks down people for bail bondsmen which is a far more dangerous job than you might expect. Sadly, this is the only lead role Hayes was ever afforded and it was offered to him so the producers could also get him to provide the film's score. Luckily for fans, he handles both creative opportunities well. In fact, I find the music he supplies for this film to be superior to his Oscar winning SHAFT score. Check it out and let us know what you think. There has been an ongoing conversation about the best Blaxploitation films for decades but nearly every fan will put this film in their top five. It plays like a western set in the 1970's with bad guys getting their comeuppance in suitable, violent ways. The story is fast paced and exciting with plenty of colorful characters peppering the trail Truck follows while dealing with scumbags. The film was originally written for a very different cast in mind but, once the change was made, the collaborative spirit of the production made for a satisfying film. Besides Hayes as Mack ‘Truck' Turner the cast is stacked with excellent character actors such as Scatman Crothers, Charles Cyphers, Dick Miller, Sam Lewis and a brilliant villain role for the great Yaphet Kotto. Plus, if you ever wondered what it would be like to see Lt. Uhura from Star Trek whip a stable of prostitutes into line, this is your chance. Whew! If you have any comments about this movie or any other film we've covered on the show thebloodypit@gmail.com is the place to send them. Thank you for listening and we'll be back soon.
Black on Black Cinema examines Black Belt Jones (1974), the groundbreaking Blaxploitation martial arts film that solidified Jim Kelly as an action star following his breakout role in Enter the Dragon. Directed by Oscar Williams and produced by Warner Bros during the height of the Blaxploitation era, the film stars Kelly as a martial arts instructor who battles the mob to protect his community's karate school from a crooked land deal. Co-starring Gloria Hendry as Sydney, Scatman Crothers as Pop Byrd, and featuring incredible fight choreography that showcased Kelly's karate championship skills, Black Belt Jones became a cult classic that merged kung fu cinema with Black urban action. We break down the film's cultural significance as one of the first major films to center a Black martial arts hero, analyze its approach to representing Black power and community resistance, discuss the chemistry between Kelly and Hendry, examine the fight sequences, and explore how the film fits into both Blaxploitation and martial arts cinema history. Plus: the film's influence on Black action cinema, Jim Kelly's career trajectory, and why Black Belt Jones remains essential viewing for understanding 1970s Black representation in Hollywood genre filmmaking.Black on Black Cinema is a long-running podcast featuring in-depth Black movie reviews and frank conversations that matter to the Black community. We review Black films across every genre — from Black horror and Black sci-fi to indie dramas, comedies, and blockbuster action. Welcome to PTBN Pop's Movie Review of The Day! Every weekday we will be reviewing a movie whether it be currently in theaters, featured on streaming or just a film that we hold near and dear to us. With the Academy Awards coming up, this week we are featuring films that were nominated for Best Picture in any year that ended in a “6”. On today's episode, Steve Riddle is reviewing “One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest” from 1975 starring Jack Nicholson, Louise Fletcher, Danny DeVito, Scatman Crothers & Michael Berryman.
This week, we discuss the medicinal and edible uses of Periwinkle, or Vinca. THis pretty, little spring flower has quite a bit of medicinal value. We also discuss using medicinal herbs in cooking... specifically, sausage. I tell you why veganism is evil and vegeterianism is unhealthy and then rant against industrial agriculture and illegal immigration. ENJOY!Also, I am back on Youtube Please subscribe to my channel: @judsoncarroll5902 Judson Carroll - YouTubeTune of the week:Anytime on guitarI show you how to play a thumb style version of "Anytime" - this is truly one of my absolute favorite songs! You may know it as an Eddy Arnold song, but it was first done by Emmett Miller. Emmett Miller was a blackface comedian from Georgia, who was a big star in the 1920s. He was the first singer to truly combine blues, country and jazz into the form that would shape American popular music to this day. His band included Eddie Lang, Scatman Crothers, Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey and Glenn Miller at various times! Matt and Laci go through the The Shining, probably the best English-language horror movie ever made. Is it the story of a man's battle with alcoholism, a complicated metaphor for the American ruling class's many sins, or is it just a simple haunted house story? What if I told you… yes? The Shining started life as Stephen King's third novel. It was a very personal novel for King, inspired by his own life and his struggles with alcoholism and fatherhood. It's understandable that he wouldn't like Kubrick not centering those issues in his film, but Kubrick saw something completely different in The Shining. The podcast tracks the history of their very public disagreement and King's criticisms of the film. The Shining's production was shrouded in secrecy and mystery. The cast and crew filmed in England for more than a year, and while Shelley Duvall was open in the press about the difficulty of the assignment, she never thought Kubrick treated her unfairly or unprofessionally, and she always pushed back whenever anyone said Kubrick mistreated her during production of the movie. Season's Greetings and Happy Holidays! Maybe I'm old school, but I still make New Year's resolutions every year and this year I decided to look back at some of my favorite creature features to find inspiration. Each of this week's movies feature characters who overcome adversities, saving themselves and others in the process! In Ants! (1977), construction foreman Mike carr (Robert Foxworth) teams up with Valerie (Lynda Day George) to save vacationers staying at the ritzy Lakewood Manor from a angry swarm of angry ants empowered by pesticide the resort has been pumping into the ground. Featuring Suzanne Somers, Bernie Casey, and millions of ants.In Squirm (1976), and army features of carnivorous earthworms attack a Georgia town after being awakened by electricity. At first New York City visitor Mick is accused of pranking town locals, but when citizens become worm-food, the town must come together to take on these slimy screaming squirmers. Featuring amazing practical effects and worms that bite. You may have seen rats in the subway before, but you've never seen any like the ones in 1982's Deadly Eyes. After snacking on steroid-induced grain, the dog-sized rats in this film (portrayed by Dachshunds in rat costumes with the occasional puppet) waste little time in escaping the subway and taking down old people and Scatman Crothers (!). A college basketball coach must team up with a local health inspector to destroy the infestation before they ruin the town's debut of a new subway line. Bad timing! Featuring tons of 80s teens and one unfortunately unwatched toddler. Directed by the same man who directed Enter the Dragon and Game of Death, Deadly Eyes offers rabid rodent action.1981's Roar was one of the most dangerous movies ever made. The film featuring an all-star cast including real-life husband and wife Noel Marshall and Tippi Hedren (The Birds), their three teenage children including Melanie Griffith, and 150 untrained large cats including lions, tigers, cheetahs, and panthers. The movie took five years to film and before it wrapped, every actor and more than a dozen crew members had received major injuries. The co-producer required 120 stitches to reattach his scalp, Tippi Hedren received 38 stiches after being bitten in the head (and later fractured her leg after being thrown from an elephant), and Melanie Griffith was bitten so badly she required facial reconstruction surgery. The film, which has been referred to as the most expensive home movie ever made, cost $17 million to make and earned less than $2 million in theaters. While all the actors survived the filming, not all of the animals did. One of the most bizarre, bonkers, and horrifying things ever captured on film. I hope you do not have to face killer ants, carnivorous worms, or hungry lions in 2026, but in whatever you face I hope you can find the inner strength the protagonists in these films managed to muster! The Scariest Movie EVER Made? Well upon its initial release forty-five years ago, not many critics saw it that way INCLUDING the author of the original novel which this film was based on, Stephen King. But over time, this psychological thriller directed by the late, great Stanley Kubrick (2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Eyes Wide Shut) has garnerned not only a devoted following but a never-ending stream of speculation about what it meant. Many love it for the memorable main lead performance by Oscar-winner Jack Nicholson (Chinatown, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, Batman) as Jack Torrance, an aspiring writer whose family ends up situated at a VERY remote location known as the Overlook Hotel....he's an aspiring writer but as the winter progresses, he starts to lose his mind. Also with him are his beleaguered wife Wendy played by the late, great Shelley Duvall (Popeye, 3 Women, Roxanne) and their young son Danny (Danny Lloyd) who has begun to experience a sort of psychic power known as.....THE SHINING. :o Also co-starring Scatman Crothers, Joe Turkel, and Barry Nelson, this horror classic has launched spin-off documentaries, weak imitations, and loads of memes - let's head to the Overlook Hotel! The Shining is a 1980 psychological horror film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick and co-written with novelist Diane Johnson. It is based on Stephen King's 1977 novel of the same name and stars Jack Nicholson, Danny Lloyd, Shelley Duvall, and Scatman Crothers. The film presents the descent into insanity of a recovering alcoholic and aspiring novelist (Nicholson) who takes a job as winter caretaker for a haunted resort hotel with his wife (Duvall) and clairvoyant son (Lloyd). Doctor Sleep is a 2019 American supernatural horror film written, directed, and edited by Mike Flanagan. It is an adaptation of the 2013 novel of the same name by Stephen King and sequel to Stanley Kubrick's 1980 film The Shining. The film stars Ewan McGregor as Dan Torrance, a man with psychic abilities and a drinking problem, who struggles with childhood trauma caused by the horrors at the Overlook Hotel. Rebecca Ferguson, Kyliegh Curran, and Cliff Curtis have supporting roles as new characters: Abra Stone and Billy Freeman team up with Dan to take down Rose the Hat and her gang of followers. Scotty FAMOUSLY hates Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" (1980). He hates it so much, in fact, that he's never even bothered to ask Amelia what she thinks about it. This week they rewatch and discuss the filmmaker's take on the classic Stephen King novel, talk about how it works as a horror movie and as a film in general, and then tackle Mike Flanagan's divisive 2019 adaptation of King's bizarro sequel, "Doctor Sleep." Will Scotty change his mind? Will Amelia add this film to her recent Favorite Scary Movies list? Will anyone ever come up with a better screen name than Scatman Crothers? Listen to find out. WARNING: This episode contains COPIOUS spoilers.

This week we finish off Spooky Season by discussing Stanley Kubrick's rendition of The Shining! Starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Scatman Crothers, and Danny Lloyd, this film is loosely based on Stephen King's 1977 novel. There are numerous differences, however, and it is all but confirmed that Kubrick brought his own vision to King's backdrop. Jack Nicholson portrays Jack Torrance, a writer who takes a job to watch after a hotel during the off-season for 5 months. He brings his family and when everyone else leaves, things start to get FREAKY. Jack begins the slow descent into madness while his wife and child are just trying to stay alive and stay sane. The level of detailed analysis that people have done on this film over the past 43 years is truly something to behold, and there is undoubtedly a lot to discuss... But Is The Shining Good?If you'd like to suggest a film or film franchise, or if you'd just like to say hello, you can reach us at butisitgoodpodcast@gmail.com, @biigpodcast on Twitter, or @butisitgoodpodcast on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube!
