What does anger look like? In Yaeji's case, the answer is simple: a fearsome, bedazzled hammer. At least, that's the idea behind her forthcoming debut album. “It's a story about me and my anger,” says Yaeji. “My anger is materialized into this hammer that I befriend.” In this episode, Hanif sits down with Yaeji to talk about her songwriting process, her debut album, and the usefulness, the beauty, and the complicated nature of anger. Hanif closes the episode with a final thought: when we stop pushing away our anger and listen to what it is telling us, what greater acts of love, service, and creativity can that anger propel us towards? Subdrive brings you our podcast showcasing mixes from artists we respect and love. Their mixes reflect whatever they’re feeling and are inspired by at the moment. We present them without track listing so you can focus on the mix; not the next song. Our first mix for September comes from Brooklyn DJ & resident Barbie Bertisch. Quickly emerging as a tasteful and varied selector in NYC, her first year of DJing has seen her opening for Nicky Siano, and found her a home at Fixed, sharing bills with Paul Raffaele, Red Axes, Marcus Marr, Pional, Tensnake, and Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy. Her passion for genre-bending music can be heard in her podcast for Subdrive, blending and mixing her ever-growing record collection ranging from ambient, fusion & crossover jazz, latin grooves, afrobeat, left-field, house and soulful disco delights. If you’d like to hear more she holds court alongside Paul Raffaele on Brooklyn’s shipping-container streaming station The Lot Radio every Saturday morning starting at 10am. You can also catch the pair at their Classic Album Sunday events, a listening session featuring iconic recordings in music history played on a world-class sound system. This mix (part 2 of 2) dedicated to the ocean's poor sharks, who, as recently verified via DNA, must resort to parthenogenisis to survive, as the females cannot find adequate mates due to dwindling populations, caused by overfishing and pollution. Parthenogenisis = virgin births, having children without sperm, much like the virgin mary. Seems that some lizards can do this as well. Track listing to come on the website in the near future, write to me jeffmorey@gmail.com for more immediate info! Thank you for listening!
Finally had a chance to put another mix together, I hope you enjoy it! Too busy these days, so I can say in a nutshell: don't litter and stop using plastic bags! argh! we are choking the planet people! thanks for listening ;)
If we have our health we have everything. This mix made on a particularly traumatic weekend.
A mix almost tossed into the wind, deleted forever, but remained clinging to me like the flamingo tongue to the sea fan; so here it is.
