This month we welcome seasoned New York-native, nightlife hustler, DJ and producer Morsy to the podcast. The man has played almost every room in NYC and you can hear that experience in the records that he’s released with legendary NY house labels Nervous Records and Strictly Rhythm. Rocking dance floors for over 15 years, Morsy's shared the decks with legends such as Todd Terry, Moby, KiNK, Stanton Warriors, and the late DJ AM. It's no surprise then that Morsy’s podcast for Subdrive showcases his full-range love of house. For one hour, Morsy weaves in and out of the genre's multiple sounds ranging from the funkier side of the dance floor, to vocal-heavy house records, and rounding it all out with banging tech. Subdrive brings you our podcast showcasing mixes from artists we respect and love. Their mixes reflect whatever they’re feeling and are inspired by at the moment. We present them without track listing so you can focus on the mix; not the next song. This month we’re excited to showcase NY based Darelectric. Born Darianna Mayer in Caracas, Venezuela, Darelectric has aligned herself with the Secret Guests crew, produces a monthly live radio show for Globalmixx Radio called ‘Stamina’, and has released original productions such as 'Romantic Soul EP' for Moveubabe Records and 'Cruise EP' for Klinik Room Recordings. Darelectric joined us at our Soho House New York residency this month and laid down a beautiful and groovy set that blends her influences and taste from the broad spectrum of house and techno. We thought it absolutely fitting to share that same live set from our event with our following for her Subdrive podcast. Heavy percussion, bassy grooves, and beautiful vocal cuts take you on a journey to distant and imagined places, just as she did that Saturday night with us. This month we’re excited to showcase Dischetto, our guest at this Saturday’s Subdrive party, resident of NYC’s Webster Hall Saturdays: GOTHAM, and @nesthq ’s resident head of techno. Her artist name, Dischetto, is a portmanteau of ‘dischetto’ and ‘tech’, resulting in the name: Dischetto-tech (pronounced: dis-ketto-tek), an homage to techno’s early roots in Detroit and Chicago ghetto-tech. With strong roots in and inspiration from classic electronica a la Kraftwerk, Nitzer Ebb, Depeche Mode, and Dopplereffekt, she specializes in all things electro, techno, and EBM. Her skills as a selector and curator have seen her play gigs from LA, NYC, Holy Ship in Miami as well as playing alongside names such as Boys Noize, Zombie Nation, Mija, Tchami, Moon Boots, and Bixel Boys. Her Subdrive podcast showcases her range in taste and style from straight banging techno, funky house, wobbly acid basslines, and more. Subdrive brings you our podcast showcasing mixes from artists we respect and love. Their mixes reflect whatever they’re feeling and are inspired by at the moment. We present them without track listing so you can focus on the mix; not the next song. This month is a special heartfelt tribute mix to the late DJ and producer @BIGMAKK, whose catalog of releases spanned the gamut of genres from moombahton, bass, and more on some of the industry's biggest labels. His close friend Florida-based artist and member of Moombah Mafia, @ma_less, decided to create this #BigMakkForever tribute mix for her Subdrive podcast. "I had the honor and the privilege of DJing alongside Big Makk for over 5 years at Shake 'n Bass. I got to watch him grow as an artist, as a person, and as my friend, honestly he was family to me. His music was always amazing to me, I remember the first song to really grasp my attention was his Head's High flip. I knew then this man was destined to be nothing but amazing. I watched him evolve and really elevate himself to another level especially after attending F.I.R.S.T. Institute. I was really excited to see where he was going and was always so immensely proud, to say he inspired me would be an understatement, he changed my life not only through his music but with the magnitude of the kindness and love he possessed in his soul. Although he is no longer with us, I feel his presence in all that I do. His music is the greatest gift he left behind and it has brought me so much peace and joy. This mix is compiled of some of my favorite songs from when I first met him to songs he left behind. This is by no means his entire catalog, I'd like to say it's the tip of the iceberg, but they are songs that have strong memories, songs that I love, and songs that I will be playing in my sets as long as the Universe has me here circling around the sun. I hope you all enjoy this mix as much as I did making it. Big Makk Forever and ever ❤️️" - Ma-less Ma-less’ mix, comprised only of BIG MAKK’s own originals, VIPs, remixes and edits, digs deep through years of Makk’s genre-bending tracks highlighting his touch on moombahton, trap, and bass for a definitive reflection of the man’s music and taste. You should also know about the Big Makk Foundation, a non-profit organization that Big Makk’s mother, Momma Makk, created in commemoration of Big Makk. Their mission is to "Change Lives Through Music" which Sam (Big Makk) did every day. Their ongoing goal is to fund scholarships for young adults pursuing a career in the music industry. We present them without track listing so you can focus on the mix; not the next song. It’s the middle of December and we’ve now clocked in 16 podcast episodes (including this one) in the past 12 months. To close out 2016, we’ve got a fantastic mix from one of the original Subdrive artists who we’ve known since the blog house/electro days, NYC dance floor veteran Krames. Krames’ eclectic production expertise pulls from a variety of bass heavy genres and a solid decade of experience under his belt. Constantly evolving, he’s established himself as a talented force within the underground of NYC with recent releases on Todd Terry’s Terminator records and his own analog techno focused Afterwave Records, which he founded in 2016. His skillful precision when producing and performing with hardware, drum machines and modular synths heavily influences this month’s mix. You’ll hear warm, chaotic analog techno stitched deeply throughout his podcast for us, a perfect way to end the year. So it’s fitting that our latest mix comes from another New York resident DJ and producer, Luka Tacon. Luka cut his teeth in the NY indie rock and dance scene, while slowly drifting deeper into the underground electronic world. As one of the founding members of NYC collective The Deep, Luka and his crew have been throwing down house cuts until the early morning across the city for some time now, including their own "Brooklyn summer staple" Might Get Weird parties. For his Subdrive mix Luka has compiled a selection of fresh tracks that reflect his eclectic taste in deeper house, techno, and disco. You’ll hear nods to selections from his inspirations touching on downtempo electronic, r&b, disco, and vocal house - and a satisfying closer perfect for the Holiday season. Every few weeks we here at Subdrive bring you our podcast showcasing a mix from an artist we respect and love at the moment. Their mixes reflect what they’re feeling in the moment and are presented without track listing. For September we’re excited to share Brooklyn-based producer @bailemusic’s first podcast mix for Subdrive. Fresh off the heels of his set at our Subdrive party in New York on August 29th, his mix is a journey through the darker side of house and techno with a proper touch of his signature haunting vocal taste. The mix showcases singles from his new ‘Matter’ EP (which we are absolutely in love with), out now on @Color-Station. 10 years ago, Subdrive started as one of the internet’s first underground electronic music podcasts. Really rough around the edges and a complete college production, the show started with a simple concept: delivering the best in underground electronic music. Since then, technology has changed music and its discovery. Electronic music has risen to mainstream status. We wanted to return to what started Subdrive, our podcast series, and we’re excited to announce our first new episode in years. Every few weeks we’ll be presenting a new mix from an artist we respect. The mixes will be presented without track listing, and reflect what is inspiring the artists at the moment. For July 2015, we're excited to showcase @crybaby1 Cry Baby, aka Lauren Martinez, is the founder of the House on Mute crew and has been a fixture in the New York house scene for several years playing every venue and party you might know. She’s hitting her stride in 2015 with a new EP with Derek Marin on Nervous Records as well as new residencies in the city.
