NCAA Baseball Tournament Clemson Regional Predictions: Clemson, Kentucky, More

The 14

Play Episode Listen Later May 28, 2025 20:17

The Southeastern 16 crew of Graham Doty, Jay Greeson and Chris Lee break down host Clemson's draw in an NCAA baseball regional. Topics include: Clemson's offense gets on base throughout the lineup, with potential MLB first-round center fielder Cam Cannarella providing a dynamic presence in center field, Dominic Listi (.506 OBP) making for the lineup's toughest out, and Jacob Jarrell (15 HR) and Collin Priest (12) providing power. Workhorse right-hander Aidan Knaak and ace relievers Lucas Mahlstedt, Jacob McGovern and Reed Garris giving the Tigers aces on the mound. West Virginia was the Big 12's regular-season champion, but faded late in the season. Outfielder Kyle West (.354/500/.628, 10 HR) led a balanced offense that stole 105 bases. Griffin Kirn, Jack Kartsonas and Reese Bassinger give the Mountaineers a trio of durable, effective pitchers that give WVU a shot to advance. Kentucky played nearly everyone competitively and even took a series at Tennessee. The Wildcats' back-end bullpen troubles prevented a better record, but coach Nick Mingione is one of the best on the business and gets a lot out of a lineup that bunts, runs and puts pressure on defenses. Left fielder Cole Hage is a standout, shortstop Tyler Bell turned down Big League money to come to campus and starred as a freshman this year, and weekend starters Nic McCay's experience and crafty lefty-hander Ben Cleaver make the Wildcats a tough out. South Carolina Upstate is one of the tournament's toughest four-seeds, thanks to an offense that hit .319/.422/.530, with slugger Scott Newman (18 HR) leading the way. Ace Amp Phillips makes the Spartans a threat to pull an upset against one of the three Power 4 teams in the regional.

What's up, dudes? It's the long awaited episode. We've teased it for years. That's right! Scott Newman from Jingle Jank and Tinsel Tunes and Jeremy Phelps the Alamo City Santa join me to talk about “The Star Wars Holiday Special!” And yes, it's as bad as everyone says it is! Airing November 17, 1978, the special introduced us to Chewbacca's family. It also gave us an entire Wookie dialogue with no subtitles! Han and Chewie are racing home so the latter can spend Life Day with his family. The holiday is a sacred day for all Wookiee, where they put on red robes and disappear into a star. Carrie Fisher sings too. Unfortunately, the Imperial blockade is preventing the duo from arriving on time. Consequently, to kill time, Chewie's family engages in a few variety show-style escapades. They watch a holographic circus, and reminisce about the time Chewie met Boba Fett. They even tune in to a mandatory viewing from Tatooine. Did I mention Bea Arthur's in this? Well, she is. So is Harvey Korman!Art Carney? Yep, as a trader sympathetic to the Rebellion. Dihann Carroll? Yep, as a quasi-inappropriate VR singer. Jefferson Starship?!?! Are they only in this because the word ‘starship' is in their name? So grab your blaster, put on your Life Day robe, and sing along to this episode on “The Star Wars Holiday Special!”Tinsel TunesFB: @tinseltunesIG: @tinseltunespodcastTwitter: @TinselTunesPodJingle JankFB: @jinglejankpodcastIG: @jinglejankpodTwitter: @jinglejankpodAlamo City SantaIG: @alamocitysanta Give us a buzz! The hopes for New Zealand's Olympic performance have gotten stronger after a record-breaking medal count at the World Indoor Championships. After silvers were given to shot-putter Tom Walsh and pole vaulter Eliza McCartney over the weekend, the Kiwi contingent has landed two golds on the final day. Hamish Kerr equalled the Oceania record of 2.36 metres to win the high jump and Geordie Beamish stunned a stellar field to strike gold in the 1500 metres. Athletics NZ High Performance Director Scott Newman says this is a good foundation ahead of the upcoming Olympics. "To come through here with four medals at a World Indoor Championships- that's just a great base heading into the Olympics." LISTEN ABOVE  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What's up, dudes? Scott  from Jingle Jank and Tinsel Tunes is here with me to talk about the two part "Married...with Children" Christmas episode 'It's a Bundyful Life!'In part one, Al tries to finally provide his family with the perfect Christmas through the use of his bank's Christmas Club. He's saved up enough to actually get them gifts! Unfortunately, while stuck at work, he arrives at the bank too late! Now penniless and giftless, he tries to scam a few bucks off some shopping mothers by watching their children. Typical Bundy disappointment ensues. Part two sees Al accidentally electrocute himself. His guardian angel Sam Kinison arrives and gives him the "It's a Wonderful Life" treatment: Al was never born! Seeing his wife happily married to another man and his kids smart and successful reignites his desire to live. How dare they be happy! All's well that ends well...or at least, that returns to the status quo.Getting jumped by a group of Santas? Yep. Being tied up by angry moms? For sure. Seeing your drunk neighbor xerox her rear end then throw up in her own mailbox? Definitely! So grab your cough syrup, make some snow cones with real snow, and see an alternate reality with 'It's a Bundyful Life!'Tinsel TunesFB: @tinseltunesIG: @tinseltunespodcastTwitter: @TinselTunesPodJingle JankFB: @jinglejankpodcastIG: @jinglejankpodTwitter: @jinglejankpodChristmas MorningIG: @xmasmorningpodTwitter: @xmasmorningpodCheck us out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Totally Rad Christmas Mall & Arcade, Teepublic.com, or TotallyRadChristmas.com! In Mali, where Fatoumata Diawara was raised, it is common for women to sing, but much rarer for women to play an instrument. As a result, Fatoumata—who is one of the first, if not the first woman guitarist in all of Mali—has developed a self-taught, intuitive guitar playing style that is entirely her own. “This way of playing, it's me,” says Fatoumata. “It represents my fight as a musician, as an African, and as a lady on stage.” In this episode of Object of Sound, Fatoumata talks to Hanif about how she discovered her calling as a musician, and the exciting ways that she is fusing the traditional music of her homeland with Western influences on her third studio album, out next year. “While I'm alive, I'll make tiny changes to Earth.” Written by Scott Hutchison, the late frontman of the band Frightened Rabbit, this line has provided comfort, consolation, and inspiration to those who loved Scott's music. A talented and witty lyricist, Scott's songs could be devastatingly crushing or funny, visceral or resonant—sometimes all in the same track. But an artist is more than the work they produce, and so, on this episode of Object of Sound, we're celebrating not only Scott's music, but also his life and legacy. We speak to Ben Gibbard, Frank Turner, Georgia Maq, and more, who share memories and impressions of the way Scott and his music shaped their lives. We'll also hear from listeners who called into the Object of Sound hotline to talk about what Scott's music means to them, and all the changes—both tiny and profound—that he has made to the lives of his listeners. “It's like digging a hole and moving into it, and listening to a lot of bass, and loving it.” So says Björk of the meaning behind the word ‘Fossora'—the title of her tenth studio album, just released today. On this episode, Hanif and Björk break Fossora down concept-by-concept, from the sextet of bass clarinets that shape the album's grounded, sonic world, to the album's themes of digging deeply into our ancestral roots, and the pleasures of setting down new ones. To close the show, Hanif riffs on Fossora's autumnal vibes with a playlist of music for the coming season.
