Urs Wälterlin lebt seit vielen Jahren in Australien.

Charlie Prell (pictured) chairs Farmers for Climate Action and talks here with Climate Conversations about a recent media release from the group, "Farmers deserve certainty on net-zero target". Charlie's sheep farm at Crookwell, about an hour north of Canberra on the New South Wales southern highlands, hosts a wind farm and being able to see one of the turbines from his kitchen window, Charlie has almost exhausted his adjectives in explaining how wonderful the wind turbines are. He sees wind turbines, and renewable energy generally, as a major step forward in countering the climate crisis and encouraging others to embrace the idea of stepping away from fossil fuels he has said that what happens in 2050 will be dictated by what happens between now and 2030. Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Charlie sees wonderful opportunities unfolding for farmers, and Australians broadly, through the embrace of such things as wind farms and other forms of renewable energy. Charlie Prell (pictured) is a wool grower from Crookwell in the Australian Captial Territory, who besides hosting 12 wind turbines on his property, is the president of the national 6000-strong organization, Farmers for Climate Action (FCA). Charlie is a community-minded soul and believes that if a farmer hosts renewable energy infrastructure, be that a wind turbine or a solar panel array, that the benefits accruing from that should be shared by all in the district. Along with others on the FCA board, Charlie had hoped his group's usefulness would have already been exhausted, but that is not the case and so the group continues to push for real action on climate change. Australians coming back from Europe tell the same stories, with the kicker that Australia itself is sitting on a FABULOUS wind resource. If we could think BIG wouldn’t we be able to hurry to 100% and then beyond?. So why all the delays? We wanted to find out how the wind industry is going here. It has been in the doldrums with the wrong signals coming out of Canberra but the Clean Energy Council says there is $5.2billion worth of projects with secure finance and ready to go. We will talk to Andrew Bray from the Australian Wind Alliance for the big picture. We will then go back to 2012 when Viv interviewed a farmer called Paul Reardon . Many listeners told us they liked what he had to say about drought proofing his farm by hosting a few turbines. This meant that he could cut down the number of sheep he was grazing and re vegetate some of the land. We decided to call Paul again this year and hear what happened next at Boorowa. Finally we will talk to Charlie Prell who is with Farmers for Climate Action, about the “Crookwell 2” project. This includes turbines on his farm, a neighbour benefit sharing agreement and a Community Enhancement Fund. Their energy will even light up Parliament house as the ACT government has contracted to take the energy they supply.Read more:The Australian Wind AllianceFarmers for Climate Action …Charlie Prellhttps://yes2renewables.org/2017/03/10/expanded-wind-turbine-production-in-portland-shows-vic-renewable-energy-target-already-creating-jobs/  TeamAndy Britt – productionVivien Langford- interviewsRoger Vize – podcast and archivesJodie Green – podcast graphics and promotion
