Australian music is on the rise - and deservedly so.While there are bands like RedHook, Ocean Grove, Void Of Vision and Alpha Wolf who are lighting up the airwaves and flying the flag for the younger generation, the more old-school rock and hard rock bands are also showcasing their worth.Bands like The Poor and Rose Tattoo, who have been around for more than three decades, are playing to large crowds and still producing quality music, but it is the comradeship and support bands of all seasons continually offer each other that stands out the most.Case in point the upcoming union of two of Australia's leading rock/hard rock outfits in The Screaming Jets and Mammal, who are hitting the road in November for a run of eight dates dubbed the Life Blood Tour, including a select number of all ages shows. It is a union that few ever saw coming, but also one which is a tantalising match made in the halls of metal that, at the very least, will introduce fans of each band to a different side of the rock coin to which they are accustomed to listening to.The Screaming Jets are more of your true blue Aussie workhorses, with a truck load of hit singles and a spiralling career once more on the rise. Mammal, on the other hand, are a raging pit of funk-fuelled metal, still smashing it on the back of recent album The Penny Drop with so much more to give.If there's one thing the two bands have in common, it is their enigmatic and proudly outspoken frontmen, both of which sat down earlier this week for a chat with HEAVY. On their own, one on one, Dave Gleeson (The Screaming Jets) and Ezekiel Ox (Mammal) are a ball of fun-fuelled energy, but put them together and anything could happen.Which it did."I'm really excited about this tour," Gleeson began. "I've seen Mammal's exploits On YouTube and stuff, but I can't wait to see them live, and I'm sure the Jets fans, part of the reason they love our band is the energy and that real rock and roll vibe that we bring and that's why I think they are really gonna take to Mammal.""I reckon you're right there, Dave," Ox picked up. "It's a great opportunity for us to get in front of some fans that will be a bit different and vice versa. There will be some Mammal people coming that may not have seen you guys yet, but I think most of the people would not have seen us. We're so looking forward to it. We're probably leaning further towards a slightly heavier sound when we get going. It's been interesting discussing it with the boys and how we're tailoring our set to make sure that we're giving the Jets fans what they want. We love all our songs, but it's been fun thinking. It's a bit of a different one for us, but we're absolutely pumped, to say the least."In the full interview, we discuss where the idea came from to put The Screaming Jets and Mammal on the same line-up, their contrasting musical styles and how they will complement each other, their confidence as frontmen and how important that side of the performance is, their first memories of each other's respective bands, what to expect from each band, between song banter, which songs of each other's bands they like the most, all ages shows and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Living in regional areas puts you behind the eight-ball somewhat when it comes to promoting your music. For a start, the population is drastically less than the capital areas, which presents a plethora of associated problems starting with a target audience. It takes a combination of talent, persistence, planning and vision to just get your toes wet, which is exactly what Mackay metal outfit Same Pains possess plenty of.Despite being a band for a short amount of time, their collective experience has seen the members share the stage with noted Australian acts such as Northlane, Polaris, Alpha Wolf and Ocean Grove. Earlier this year the band played two showcase gigs at BigSound and this weekend perform at Rhythm & Reef Festival in their hometown, which will be headlined by Bliss N Eso - not exactly from the metal realm but still one of the big fish when it comes to Australian music. But all of that will be superseded today when Same Pains release their first collection of music in the form Closure: An Aggregate, with guitarist Ben Burrows joining HEAVY to outline things in greater detail. We outlined their promotional strategies and release schedule, with Ben reflecting on the band's unique approach of releasing singles prior to the full collection. The title Closure was explored, with Ben explaining it signifies the end of a chapter and the start of a new journey, while also touching on the band's musical evolution and diverse influences. The conversation also addressed the challenges and opportunities within regional music scenes, drawing from their experiences in Mackay and Cairns. Ben shared his efforts to organize local shows and the importance of community engagement, as well as their upcoming performance at the Rhythm & Reef Festival. He expressed hopes for greater exposure for heavy acts in regional areas and discussed future plans for shows in Brisbane and Sydney, as well as the potential release of another EP next June, plus more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Seldom does a band come along that can genuinely lay claim to being groundbreaking in terms of musical disparity. Sure, many are labelled as such, but how many have actually pushed their music to its limits and beyond and still emerged triumphant? Not many. While not claiming to be revolutionary themselves, Melbourne noise merchants Ocean Grove definitely qualify in terms of freedom of expression and mashing of genres that have no right being mentioned in the same breath, let alone side by side on an album release.Ever since unleashing their 2017 debut album The Rhapsody Tapes, Ocean Grove have effortlessly combined nu metal, metalcore, grunge, rock, punk and rap sensibilities in such an orderly fashion that scribes saw fit to label their music in a completely new category that best sums up each influence and musical note that forms the bands sound. That term is Odd World music and has stuck sufficiently for Ocean Grove to embrace the term themselves, to the point of naming their upcoming, November 22 album Oddworld. It is both a reflection of the band's eclectic sound and an ownership of the phrase, emphatically capturing Ocean Grove in all of their experimental glory. In short, ODDWORLD is exactly as its title suggests: beautifully chaotic, sonically kaleidoscopic and wholeheartedly one-of-a-kind.HEAVY sat down recently with frontman Dale Tanner to explore Oddworld on a deeper level."I'm feeling very, very excited," he enthused when asked how he felt about the impending release of album number four. "It's probably… this is the most excited about anything I've put out into the world, alongside my brothers. I sat down last night and gave the album a listen myself to get a refresh on things, and I thought this feels big and (is) a definitive moment in Ocean Grove's career, and I just want to soak that in a little bit after not having listened to it for a bit. I heard it a million times working on it in the studio and gave it that space to now revisit it and think 'holy fuck, this has some power to it'. I really think it's our best work. It's Ocean Grove operating on all cylinders and there's something there for everyone. It's taking all that was great about everything that we've done up to this point and fusing it with this new-found, child like excitement for the future. Just putting that stamp of this is certified Ocean Grove, and you'd better be here for it."In the full interview, Dale dives deeper into Oddworld musically, how they returned to their roots somewhat for the album, maintaining a flow and consistency despite covering so many genres, the creative process for Ocean Grove, choosing singles to represent Oddworld, finding the balance between styles, how their sound has evolved over the years, their upcoming run of shows and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

It's Wednesday, May 29th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Kazakhstan officials raid Protestant churches Officials in Kazakhstan raided several Protestant churches in recent months. Police fined pastors and congregants for not being registered with the government. Pastors also faced charges of illegal missionary activity.  Last year, individuals and organizations in the Central Asian country faced over 200 cases of such prosecutions for exercising their freedom of religion.  The local Baptist Council of Churches said, “What has been happening in the last month . . . has aroused serious concern among Evangelical communities, which have experienced persecution for their religious activity.” According to Open Doors, Kazakhstan is the 47th most difficult country worldwide in which to be a Christian. Finnish Christian politician harassed by hostile court system A Christian politician is preparing to stand trial for the third time over her Biblical beliefs. As The Worldview reported on April 22nd, Päivi Räsänen is a former government minister and sitting Finnish parliamentarian. She recently submitted her defense to the Finnish Supreme Court.  Lower courts acquitted her of “hate speech” after she posted Bible verses online in opposition to sexually perverted lifestyles. However, the State prosecutor appealed the case to the country's Supreme Court.  Räsänen said, “An acquittal by the Supreme Court would … provide a clearer and stronger safeguard for the freedom of Christians to present the teachings of the Bible–and it would strengthen the principle of freedom of expression in general.”  More hurricanes on the way The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting more hurricanes this year than normal. The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season lasts from June 1 to November 30. The group predicts an 85% chance of an above-normal season.  The forecast includes 8 to 13 hurricanes. Four to seven of those are expected to be major hurricanes.  Job said in Job 26:12 and 14, “[God] stirs up the sea with His power, and by His understanding He breaks up the storm. … Indeed, these are the mere edges of His ways … the thunder of His power who can understand?” Political gender gap A new poll by the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School highlights the growing gender gap among young people. President Joe Biden leads former President Donald Trump by eight percentage points among Americans under 30. Among young women, Biden leads by 33 points. But among young men, Biden only leads by six points, down from 26 points in 2020. In 2020, 42% of young men identified as Democrat and 20% as Republican. Now, 32% identify as Democrat and 29% as Republican.  Transgender surgeries lead to suicide attempts Last month, researchers published a study in the medical science journal called Cureus, entitled “Risk of Suicide and Self-Harm Following Gender-Affirmation Surgery.” The study evaluated 90 million adults in the U.S. It found that people who get sex-mutilating surgeries are more likely to attempt suicide. The study noted, “Individuals who underwent gender-affirming surgery had a 12-fold higher suicide attempt risk than those who did not.”  Pro-life pregnancy centers provided $360 million of services in 2022 This month, the Charlotte Lozier Institute, a pro-life research group, released a report on the impact of pro-life centers in 2022. The U.S. had 2,750 pregnancy resource centers at the time. Overall, they provided over $360 million in pro-life services and goods to individuals and families. That's over $100 million than the services and goods provided in 2019. Demand for pro-life services has increased since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. Despite this, pro-abortion attorneys general and lawmakers are targeting pro-life pregnancy centers.  Environmental activists vs. Christian New Jersey community For generations, Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, a Christian group in Ocean Grove, New Jersey, has closed its private beach on Sunday to honor the fourth commandment. Recently, the state's Department of Environmental Protection has been threatening the Christian camp group with fines of $25,000 for every Sunday that they remain closed because the group is allegedly violating beach access laws. As a result of the pressure, the Christian group has relented and opened their private beach on the Lord's Day. Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association said it would challenge the order in court to “preserve our property rights and religious freedom.” Young adults embrace lying, abortion, and sexual perversion And finally, Dr. George Barna released his latest research on Biblical worldview in America. The study noted that younger generations are leading a big shift in our country's morals. Less than half of adults under 40 say the Bible is their guide to morality. Most adults under 40 reject absolute moral truth and embrace lying, abortion, and sexually perverted lifestyles.  Dr. Barna said, “By abandoning the absolute boundaries given to us in the Bible, we have opted for unpredictable and conflicting standards that serve us poorly. You always reap what you sow. America is now harvesting the sad product of what it has been cultivating for the last 40-plus years.” Isaiah 55:6-7 says, “Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Wednesday, May 29th, in the year of our Lord 2024. Subscribe by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.
