Chuck Garrity, the owner of Death of the Fox Brewing Company( 12:20), joins the show to discuss the insanity of New Jersey beer laws. The Garden State is currently home the most suffocating restrictions on breweries among any other state in the US. Laws are limiting breweries to hosting only 25 “events” per year, all of which need to be reported to the state offices 10 days in advance; restricting food trucks from serving on-site; and restricting the amount of beer that can be sold. Chuck is leading an effort to standing up to New Jersey lawmakers to reverse the restrictions and allow breweries to have their fair rights. We discuss his effort to rally the community around the cause, as well as how to support from afar. With the NFL playoffs about to begin, we dive into some of the first round matchups. Do the Giants have enough in the tank to beat a thirteen-win Vikings team? Are the Jaguars built to withstand the up-and-coming Chargers? And can the Buccaneers, who will host a playoff game despite having a losing record, pull an upset as a home underdog against the Cowboys? We discuss some quarterback situations and what could become a bloodbath QB market next year. Finally, we finish with the signing of Carlos Correa to the Minnesota Twins. NOTE: If you are local to New Jersey, make sure you check out the Brew Jersey series at local breweries. Brew Jersey is a call to action for all craft beer supporters, as well as a way to let elected officials know that the laws need to be changed to allow New Jersey breweries to grow and thrive within the state. 25% of the sales of Brew Jersey IPA will be donated to the Brewers Guild of New Jersey to support sensible legislation for the breweries of NJ. Tune in to Episode 17 with Chuck Garrity of Death of the Fox Brewing Company. Death of the Fox is a local brewery, coffee house, and coffee roastery, the first and only one of its kind in the state of NJ. We talk about Chuck's background in the heathcare industry, the similarities between coffee and beer culture, and the idea of a “third place.” We touch on his life as a home brewer and eventual transition into the beverage industry full-time. Furthermore, we talk about the regulation roadblocks that the NJ ABC has imposed upon NJ breweries and what they are doing to fight against these egregious and unfair regulations. https://p2a.co/rxLGUAd
Then, Dom welcomes Chuck Garrity, owner of Death of the Fox Brewing Company in Clarksboro, NJ, back onto the Dom Giordano Program to discuss an ongoing legal battle playing out in New Jersey over the rights of breweries in the State. Chuck joined us about a month ago to announce that he'd be suing the state's Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control over what he believes are a ‘deliberate attack on small brewers' in New Jersey. Giordano reveals some of these laws, such as a requirement that patrons take a tour prior to drinking in an attached bar, and restrictions against showing sporting events. Garrity provides an update on the lawsuit, and takes Giordano back to the time when Chris Christie was in charge, telling about ways that the former Governor opened up the industry and the new trend by the current administration's ABC to ‘even the playing field.' Full Hour | Today, Dom led off the Dom Giordano Program by discussing today as a monumental day, being the anniversary of the ‘Let's Go Brandon' meme. Dom and producer Dan remember the culmination of the meme, playing back the genesis at a NASCAR event, and Dom tells why he believes it's had such staying power through Biden's presidency. Then, Giordano plays back clips from yesterday's press conference held by Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner where the now infamous prosecutor addressed a carjacking epidemic in the City which has now seen over 1,000 instances of vehicular theft this year. Also, Giordano offers his thoughts on some horrible white boots worn by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and continues throughout the hour talking about the race between Dr. Mehmet Oz and John Fetterman. Leaving the corporate world and turning a lifetime passion into a business sounds like a dream come true for most of us. Although there is no doubt that working in what we are passionate about is an ideal situation, our today's guest, Chuck Garrity, believes it is not about dreaming but about planning. Creating a business out of a passion takes work, long nights of planning, lots of research, and getting ready to face countless challenges along the way. Joining me today is Chuck Garrity, founder, and CEO of Death of the Fox Brewing Company, the first and only brewery and coffee house in New Jersey. Chuck is also an avid reader and passionate about history. After working in the healthcare industry for over 20 years, Chuck decided to invest in himself and start his own brewery. After experiencing burnout working for big companies, Chuck realized that he didn't want that corporate life where, according to him, you get married to the company. That life wasn't for him.In this episode, we talked about Chuck's journey in the corporate world and why he decided to pivot into an entrepreneurial adventure. He kindly shared his experiences learning the secrets of brewery working side-by-side with a specialist - as he said, the only way to learn something. We also talked about the challenges he faced to establish his business in New Jersey and how he prepared himself and the company to deal with the pandemic. Some Questions I Ask:When did you become passionate about making beer? (8:16)Can you talk a bit about your very innovative branding, embracing the local Revolutionary War history of the region, and where that idea came from? (13:39)Could you share a bit more on the political and regulatory challenges that you experienced in this process of creating what you have today? (19:10)Are you looking to open a second location in the future? (40:47)If someone wants to get into something they're passionate about, whether it's a brewery, whether it's construction, get out of the corporate world, what would your advice be? (46:31)In This Episode, You Will Learn:What led Chuck to make the decision to leave the corporate world (6:50)The brewing Yoda. How Chuck learned everything he knows about the brewery (12:46)Consistency is the key. What every brewer should be worried about (16:03)Something people can make a tattoo of. Part 2 of our Record Store Day extravaganza at Jupiter Records in Woodbury Heights NJ. Ryan Horner from Dogfish sits in, Chuck Garrity from Death Of A Fox Brewing saves the day with a corkscrew to open the Neshaminy In The Midnight Sour, George from the Woodbury FAF Coalition Explains Lot 323, and Jay Rose and Rob explain how they both discovered the No Simple Road Podcast on the same day at the same time. This is segment 1 of 2 from what has now become a bit of a tradition for us. This is our 3rd Record Store Day Podcast, and the second year in a row we've done it from Jupiter Records in Woodbury Heights NJ. Record Store Day falls right at the end of the Hippie High Holidaze of Bicycle Day, 4/20, the anniversary of Prince's death and Earth Day. Seeing as how Dogfish Head is the official beer of Record Store Day, we had Ryan Horner from Dogfish sit in with some beautiful liquid. The theme of this one was "Opening The Vaults." We all brought beers from the deep dark recesses of our collections and opened them on the show. Most of the beers that were opened were older than our children. Rob opens a VERY sour Stone Enjoy After, Jay Rose breaks down how to drink a sour beer, Steve Zimmerman from Jupiter shares some of the more ridiculous things he finds in record collections, and Richard enjoys an 11 year old 120 IPA. Chuck Garrity from Death Of A Fox Brewing in Clarksboro NJ hangs for a bit to explain how his brewery is a coffee house and his coffee house is a brewery. Very cool stuff. Open a beer from your vault and enjoy the ride!
