The bunkers are open and the drinks are poured. This week on the Whiskey & Tequila Movie Review Podcast, we're breaking down the gritty sequel, Greenland: Migration.Five years after the world ended, the Garrity family is back on the move. We're discussing whether this post-apocalyptic road trip lives up to the tension of the first film, Gerard Butler's "Disaster Dad" energy, and those massive set pieces that left us breathless.

Republican gubernatorial candidate and State Treasurer Stacy Garrity, who hopes to unseat Josh Shapiro as Governor this year, has previously suggested Donald Trump won the 20-20 election. She revised those remarks on Monday. Meantime, Garrity says rural Pennsylvania should embrace the data center boom. Polling shows voters may not be so interested. Facebook's parent company Meta has announced it reached a deal to purchase nuclear power from the Beaver Valley power plant in western Pennsylvania and two others in Ohio. Penn State officials say two unique programs at closing Commonwealth campuses – including Mont Alto - will be moved to the Altoona campus. A Berks County township is spending thousands of dollars to apparently hide details of a proposed law from local residents. According to reporting by our partners at Spotlight PA, a group of residents is also spending thousands of dollars trying to get Tulpehocken Township officials to disclose the proposed ordinance that could affect their farms. A York County Sheriff’s Office K9 has died, just weeks before his retirement. And a contest that celebrates the much maligned but enduring mullet hairstyle brought thousands of spectators to a stage at the Pennsylvania Farm Show on Monday. Disaster movies are built to end things. Cities collapse, the planet cracks open, and whatever survives crawls out into the credits. Sequels are supremely rare because escalation usually feels beside the point. But “Greenland 2: Migration” exists because director Ric Roman Waugh never viewed the first film as a one-off thrill ride. For him, it was always the opening chapter of a single emotional story about family, survival, and legacy. The sequel again follows the Garrity family as they must leave the safety of the Greenland bunker and embark on a perilous journey across the decimated, volatile wasteland of Europe in search of a new home. The film stars Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, Roman Griffin Davis, William Abadie, and more.On this episode of The Discourse, host Mike DeAngelo is joined by director Ric Roman Waugh to discuss why “Migration” was never conceived as a traditional sequel, how emotion allows spectacle to breathe, reuniting with Gerard Butler for their fourth collaboration, and balancing franchise expectations with the fear of repetition.

In this episode, we break down how two friends, a real estate agent and an insurance agent, started a podcast and unintentionally built powerful personal brands that directly impacted their businesses. What began as simple conversations turned into a virtual resume that positioned them as trusted experts long before prospects ever reached out. We explore why podcasting works especially well for relationship driven industries like real estate and insurance, where trust and familiarity matter. The goal of their content was to build name, image, and likeness and create know, like, and trust at scale. By letting people get familiar with them through long form content, their podcast worked around the clock, allowing listeners to connect on their own time without the need for constant in person networking. This conversation breaks down how a podcast helps real estate agents establish authority, stay top of mind, and shorten the sales cycle, while insurance professionals can use content to educate prospects and generate warmer inbound leads. If you are a service based entrepreneur looking to grow through personal branding, this episode shows how podcasting becomes a long term marketing asset that compounds over time, even while you are sleeping. Book your call with Neo Home Loanshttps://www.neoentrepreneurhomeloans.com/wealthjuice/ Book your mentorship discovery call with Cory RESOURCES

Penn State grad student workers have overwhelmingly voted to form a union. Unionized faculty at Harrisburg Area Community College have avoided a strike. A tentative agreement has been reached between school officials and the instructors, represented by the Pennsylvania State Education Association. Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman is back in Washington D-C this week - after being hospitalized in Pittsburgh last week. About 70 protesters with March on Harrisburg demonstrated at the state Capitol Monday, calling for a ban on gifts to lawmakers. More than a dozen of the protesters were arrested after they blocked the entrances to the House and Senate wings. The Lancaster County Commissioners will vote on their latest annual budget plan on Christmas Eve - not December 10th as previously planned. The campaign of state treasurer Stacy Garrity - who has announced her candidacy for governor - may hinge on her fundraising ability. A report by our partners at Spotlight PA reveals that Garrity's fundraising abilities are largely untested. It's been more than 2 years since a Norfolk Southern freight train went off the tracks in eastern Ohio just across the Pennsylvania border. In that time major freight carriers have failed to join a federal program aimed at reducing such hazards. The lives of 39 Schuylkill County firefighters were honored at the recent Schuylkill County Volunteer Firefighters' Convention. While the dust is settling from the Little League World Series held in South Williamsport, there's likely a game and storyline from this year's competition that you haven't yet heard about. Last weekend, under blue skies, a baseball team from Luzerne County not only had their baseball dreams come true, but they showed an international audience what can be possible through sports. Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity has announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination for Governor in next year's election. In-home care agencies say the leading state budget proposal doesn’t go far enough to fix Pennsylvania’s growing staffing crisis. Agencies argue Pennsylvania’s low rates are forcing caregivers out of the workforce, leaving more than 100,000 shifts unfilled each month. West Nile Virus cases are climbing in Pennsylvania. Even though only two human cases have been reported in Pennsylvania this year, officials are encouraging people to take steps to prevent mosquito bites, which could lead to infection. A long-term closure and detour is set to begin this weekend along northbound Interstate 83 in Harrisburg. Pennsylvania state police and law enforcement in Texas are asking for the public's help as they seek to solve a murder case dating back to 1984. The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is issuing another advisory regarding raw milk being sold in the state. Consumers are advised to discard Sunshine Dairy brand raw milk, purchased between August 5 and August 15, 2025, in Berks, Lebanon, and Schuylkill counties. It's back to school season and that means school buses are back on area roadways. According to state data, York County has one of the highest rates of bus citations. Next year’s midterm races in Pennsylvania will play a key role in the fight over the U.S. House majority next year. Republicans and Democrats are laying the groundwork to reach rural voters. U.S. Steel officials are sharing their findings from an initial investigation into last Monday's explosion at a plant near Pittsburgh that killed 2 and injured 10. President Trump last week seized control of Police in Washington DC. As a result, a state lawmaker plans to introduce a bill blocking federal takeover of local police departments in Pennsylvania. Republican state treasurer Stacy Garrity is launching her run for Pennsylvania governor. The 61-year-old Garrity is the state GOP's top choice - and a staunch supporter of President Trump. Join Jim and Greg for the Monday edition of the 3 Martini Lunch as they have fun with some campaign news out of Pennsylvania and then serve up three major political martinis: President Trump's efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, MSNBC rebranding to MS NOW, and a left-wing columnist calling to scrap the Constitution so progressives can enact more of their agenda. Before the martinis, they react to Republican Pennsylvania State Treasurer Stacy Garrity announcing her run for governor in 2026. The name may be spelled differently, but Jim Geraghty is hilariously bracing to hear his name a lot over the coming year.In the first martini, Jim breaks down the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska, weighing both the positive and negative results. They also examine what today's Washington meeting between Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and European leaders could mean for future peace negotiations.Next, they react to MSNBC rebranding to MS NOW. Jim suspects NBC News will be glad to no longer be synonymous with the rage fest on the cable channel once this process is complete. Greg and Jim are both severely underwhelmed by the new name. Finally, they shake their heads as New York Times columnist Ross Douthat interviews Osita Nwanevu, a columnist for The New Republic, who basically wants to scrap the Constitution and start over because we're not enough of a democracy. The guest is especially infuriated over the existence of the U.S. Senate and the Electoral College and wants to pack the U.S. Supreme Court and add a several new states...you know...to save democracy. Please visit our great sponsors:Keep your skin looking and acting younger for longer. Get 15% off OneSkin with the code 3ML at https://www.oneskin.co/Support your health with Dose Daily.  Save 25% on your first month when you subscribe at https://DoseDaily.co/3ML or enter code 3ML at checkout. Stop putting off those doctors' appointments and go to https://zocdoc.com/3ML to find and instantly book a top-rated doctor today.

Episode 158 - Using Videotaped Deposition Clips in Openings and Closings

10,000 Depositions Later Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 2, 2025 13:33

In this episode, Jim Garrity argues for more frequent videotaping of depositions, especially those of parties and witnesses likely to be unavailable at trial. The reason? Unlike live witnesses - who are generally called once in trial - videotaped testimony can be played two or more times. This technique utilizes one of the most effective tools of persuasion ever invented, repetition, borrowed straight from Madison Avenue, where repetition is everything. Clips played during the trial, during closing, and sometimes in opening by consent or court order, allow you to essentially present the same witness and testimony multiple times. This kind of repetition isn't possible with live witnesses, and is far superior to reading deposition transcripts to the jury. In a world where people are accustomed to getting their information through video, reading a transcript of testimony is likely to test your jurors' attention span (and patience). Garrity discusses a UCLA professor's "7-38-55 rule" to underscore the point. The gist of this rule is that when people communicate, only 7% of the message is conveyed through words, 38% through tone and voice, and a whopping 55% through body language. That's what makes the presentation of deposition testimony by video clips so powerful. Listen in!SHOW NOTESSmith, et al. v. City of Chicago, etc., Case No. 21-cv-1159, 2025 WL 1744919 (N. D. Ill. When Death of the Fox Brewing Company opened eight years ago, co-founder Chuck Garrity wanted to make sure its Clarksboro, New Jersey-based taproom stayed busy day and night.    So to “maximize” Death of the Fox's taproom investment and utility, the company launched by also offering coffee service, Garrity shared during the first edition of the Brewbound Podcast's Learning Lounge: Taproom Tactics series.    Offering coffee was part of a total beverage mindset that covered an overlap between beer drinkers and coffee connoisseurs, while adding a revenue stream in one of the strictest operating environments for craft brewery taprooms.    “My goal was to always have an on-site coffee roastery,” Garrity explained. “So to be able to produce and roast the coffee in the same way that we produce fresh beer for the brewery. In the same respect, we're doing that with the coffee. To me it just made sense in terms of a business model.”   Building an on-site roastery during the COVID-19 pandemic was “a game changer” for the business due to taproom shutdowns. It's now become the dominant portion of the brewery's business.   “When we first opened, beer was about 75%, 80% of our sales,” he said. “Now, flash forward eight years later, coffee, in terms of the total company, is about 70% of our sales. Beer is about 20% to 25%.”   Garrity added that the brewery's beer sales are still strong, and he's confident that “beer's not going anywhere.” But his philosophy is to “follow where the river takes you, don't fight against the current,” and Death of the Fox's customers were telling him that while they liked the combination of beer and coffee, they really loved the coffee.   Listen for more from Garrity on Death of the Fox's mix, growing the coffee side of the business amid strict restrictions on beer and advice for adding an attractive coffee menu.    Before this week's featured interview, Jess, Zoe and Justin break down what Barrel One Collective's acquisition of Greater Good Imperial Brewing Company brings to the platform. And the trio play Another Round or Tabbing Out on 1990s nostalgia seeping into CPG, with more waterbed and Jelly shoes talk than you'd expect.
