(Kinda) Episode 200 First, if this is the first time listening, you have a lot of podcasts to catch up on. To conclude a five-year-long podcast personal journal, I ask Sam Seitles (Pillars of Hammonton) to join me for a walk through of my most favorite and not so favorite show exoeriences. I share more of what was really going on behind-behind the mic and open this diary one more time before turning these mics off (until the next new podcast adventure, of course). Thanks for downloading and listening to this show and being with me for these last five years. I challenge you to do the same and tell your story so you too can make a lasting impact on someone else. Eps 126 - I recently had an opportunity where the universe fed me an answer to a conundrum, encompassed in an email. In this episode I share how I discovered that a podcast client of mine was ready to move on and ironically, I think I was too. With a client's expectations changing, I had to realize that I had to get with the program or move on myself and moving on is what growing is all about. Eps 125 - There has been a ton of judgement out there on the news with this recent impeachment trial. It's easy to turn the news off but even without it, does the judgement stop? We are conditioned to pass judgement the moment we realize and fear that the world will figure out who we really are. Imperfect. In this brief episode I share where we see this judgement, why I think it exists, and a declaration to say to all of you STOP JUDGING! Ep 124 - For a long time I understood that binging anything was a bad thing. Indulging a short period devoted to an activity to excess, whether it be eating or drinking, can be harmful if done on a frequent basis. But times have changed. The word "binge" has taken on a new meaning with the ridiculous amount of content for us to consume, virtually everywhere. After nearly a year of podcasting solo I invited entrepreneur, business coach, and host of the Successfully Screwed Podcast, Sara Rosenberg, for a late night chat on the mic. We share our history of the word "binge" and the good and bad of what we indulge in today. Is it good? Is it bad? Well, it all depends. LISTEN and FOLLOW Sara and her co-host Ashley Owen on their Successfully Screwed Podcast. The podcast takes a different approach to kicking you in the pants in an attempt to motivate you to hang in there and keep grinding as an entrepreneur! https://www.successfullyscrewedpodcast.com SHARE, RATE, SUBSCRIBE & DOWNLOAD PAST EPISODES on any podcast player on Android or iOS. Eps 123 - WIth the New Year upon us, it's customary for us to change something we've done and do it different, do it better, AND do it consistently so it becomes a habit doing the new year. We are constantly either keeping things the same or changing them for ourselves. In this episode I delve into the depths of consistencies we can do without, the past consistencies that eventually changed, and the pressures doing things the same way, every time. Eps 122 - After leaving a successful HR career behind exactly one year ago, laying people off or getting the ax myself seemed to be a horrible constant. During this journey I kept most of my experiences with this to myself, but after getting laid off right before Christmas in 2018, I felt it was time to pay it forward, share my story with you. It's unfortunate but I'm sure we may have one or two listeners that are in the same boat as I was last December. This episode brings you insight on how layoffs shaped my career, what happens behind the scenes before someone is laid off, and guidance on how to survive being laid off yourself. It may not be the only story, but the lessons I have learned have come from years of experience getting good at doing what others simply don't want to do. If you or someone you know needs help getting through a year-end layoff or someone in your family has been affected, do not hesitate to contact me via email at thedependentindependent@gmail.com. Eps 121 - In this episode, I share a story deep in the vault of a time where a lie to get back at someone became a lesson when the truth would have been easier to tell. The truth usually hurts but are lies any worse? Listen how lies impact the world around us, the perceptions of others, and altering of reality as we know it. That is the truth, at least from my point of view. Cheers. SHARE, RATE, SUBSCRIBE & DOWNLOAD PAST EPISODES on any podcast player on Android or iOS. Eps. 120 - I like sharing advice from time to time, helping those around me. I also like taking advice from others. But I'm starting to realize that I should start listening to myself more often. Since starting this show in almost five years back, I've shared a lot of things. It wouldn't make sense to hold back every lesson I've learned from the experiences I share. What happen last weekend is no different. After a costume party with beer pong and flip cups, I share how a night of drinking that lead to a malfunctioning laptop sought me about about how far I've come in the past year. Thanks for listening and remember to always pee before you go to bed. Trust me. You'll thank me later. SHARE, RATE, SUBSCRIBE & DOWNLOAD PAST EPISODES on any podcast player on Android or iOS. Eps. 117 - In this episode, I came to a realization. A realization that I may be the only one on the planet that doesn't care about what my family did in the past. Nope. Don't need to know what my great grandfather did for a living or where my great-great uncle was born. Does that make me a bad person? To some, maybe. (Originally Published October 31, 2016) Finally, Episode 45 closes a chapter that started right out of college. With his wife and co-host Meg, Nick G. finishes Part 3 of a story that started in Eps. 23 & continued in 29 (GO BACK AND LISTEN WILL YA!). With every rash decision made by an immature 22 year old, comes too many lessons to learn and consequences that eventually drive you forward. Eps. 116 - Hey guys, in this podcast episode I share a story of pride with an 11-year-old struggling to see his own accomplishments when others bring him down and a President who struggles because he's his own worst enemy. We search for pride in so many accomplishments but if we let them, obstacles will surely get in the way and take away our sometimes intrinsic, well-deserved win. Eps. 115 - It's been a long time since I took orders from someone else at work and the only expectations being set are the ones I set for myself. When you try to exceed the expectations of others there is always room to fall short, to disappoint others. But can this happen to yourself? Can you set your own expectations, fall short, and be the hardest on yourself when no one is looking? Here's a story about just that. Eps. 114 - Following my third speaking event at the annual podcasters conference called MAPCON, now the Independent Podcaster Conference, I'm back on mic to talk about how this one specific experience compares to all the others. Things are going great right now, I almost want to pinch myself. Just can't get too greedy because one can only fill their mouth with so much abundance at a time. It feels good to be good at something. You feel pride. You inspire others to do the same. But it's the noise of others and the noise in our own head that keep us believing it for ourselves. Eps. 112 - We hear that people have "baggage", things they carry with them, that hold them in place. All these things start as simple attachments that although they seem like safety nets, creating a feeling of security, these attachments get a little too big for us back from moving forward, whether it be the material, harful human connections, or just the dollar. It's these attachments that create unseen obstacles. The risk is taking that first step, no matter how fearful we are of what we turn out to be. And that there, my friends, is what I'm talking 'bout. MiniSode 111.5 - Being satisfied with where we are is just not in our DNA. Whether it's looking over your neighbor's fence, asking for more money at work, and just believing we deserve it all when we want it. That mentality forces us to push things to happen to us. We force the universe to bend to our will and 9 times out of 10 it doesn't go the way you want it. So rather than trying so hard to make things happen, simply just make it. MiniSode 109.5 - Today everyone is using the word passion as a way to define what makes them happy, what provides the most fulfillment in their lives. Most people leave it to chance to find their passion when the time is right, so rather than taking any chances, they try to will that discovery to happen. Finding one's passion, whether it be with a likely hobby, or pursuing a business doing something you love, always requires risk. Just like winning the lottery. You'll never win if you never buy a ticket. Taking the uncomfortable risk to play the odds will eventually bring you to the moment where you find what you love and share that joy and fulfillment with the world around you. Eps. 109 - There are times in our lives when something is created that captures the attention of everyone, adults and children alike. My son and co-host Nate G. jumped into Fortnite about a year ago and after enjoying it to the fullest it's finally fallen off the cliff of interest. In this episode, with the upcoming E3 weekend, I hear my son's own story of video games and how something so beloved as Fortnite could be replaced so easily. Is Fortnite dead? May not dead, just a gateway to enjoying time with friends and doing what we love to do. If you want to learn more about Fortnite, go on YouTube and throw a rock. You'll hit a video about Fortnite. MiniSode 108.5 - A few weeks back I accepted a job. A job to paint an entire house. I knew I could do it, I was excited to do it, but not until I started did I realize that choosing to "give a fuck" about something you love to do, comes with a price. It's the responsibility we have to accept when we make the choices we make, no matter how good or bad it turns out. I have to give my father props for the advice he gave me a ways back. Smart man. Eps. 107 - I was able to swing by my pal Dewey's studio to do again what we did all the way back in Episode 1. My friendship with Dewey has grown since we worked together at our corporate jobs starting in 2006, watching him work so hard to build his successful business. As I venture to do the same, I reveal more in this episode than I have ever done. We share sincere details about the last year of my life, the personal and professional struggles, and why spirituality, compassion, and believing in myself changed how I live around those around me. It's about mindfulness and focussing on the absolute "NOW". It's an episode like this that reminds me why I do this every week. So grateful that chose to listen to this special episode. MiniSode 106.5 - It's safe to say that we all want to win and we want the win as fast as possible. Our impatience gets the best of us and the pursuit of a quick win is spilling over to our kids, how we manage their activities and the sports they play. We are compelled to protect ourselves from the pain of losing and have lost sight of earning the wins we strive for. In this MiniSode I share a few recent events that clarified the need for patience, the power of just doing it, and how some of us have to do it differently before it's too late. Eps. 106 - I was excited to have my wife Megan, host of the You Be You Podcast with Meg and Liv, to stay up late and discuss why bad words are such a big deal to people. Hear how the birth of cursing started, in different ways for both of us. We discuss how society norms (or not) make casual cursing tolerable and how cursing has become a topic of parenting we weren't really prepared for. Oh, and by the way, we both say the F-word, more than once. Thanks for listening and remember to think before you speak, damnit. MiniSode 105.5 - We are all watching and obsessed wth the time. Always waiting for a clock to hit the point that we ourselves have set as a deadline for things to finally matter. In this podcast, I challenge that. Clock or not, we all have the power to make something MATTER. We simply need to make a choice. Thanks for listening and remember to tell a friend & SHARE the show. Eps. 105 - In this episode, Sam Seitles, former pro-wrestler turned pre-school proprietor, tells his story where passion for simply doing something he enjoyed to do led him, step by step, to achieving happiness doing what he was meant to do. Sam and his wife are recent owners of R.E.A.D. Pre-School and Camp Tuscaloosa in Hammonton, NJ. My children attended this school and it has been an institution in our community for decades. Listen to hear how starting a garage wrestling circuit in high school led to his discovery that he was meant to teach and empower children to find the confidence he found at a young age. MiniSode 104.5 - When things are stressful, is it true that you actually make more things happen? I've been watching Grey's Anatomy with my daughter on Netflix (now we're binging Season 4!) and it seems if you want to get neck deep into tension, you gotta work at a hospital. There is always something happening at that hospital. If you took the hospital away, would anything really happen? Why are conditioned to think only when we put pressure on ourselves that things happen the way we want them to. If we anticipate the future or regret the past, we push the world around us to do our bidding. Unfortunately we never truly appreciate the power of the things happening to us in the now. Be in the NOW, my friends, and take a listen and hear what I mean. SHARE, RATE, SUBSCRIBE & DOWNLOAD PAST EPISODES on any podcast player on Android or iOS. Eps. 104 - In this show, I was joined by Kelly Pickel (@bee_ing_kellyp) in her country home in Lancaster, PA for her first official podcast guest-spot before launching her own podcast in the coming weeks. We recorded this show during the eventful congressional hearing of Michale Cohen and tackled the topic of taking the bad guy (or sometimes the hero?) down when they are at their best or worst. Does the exercise say more about us than them? We discover that we all are trying to find out own nut, but is it everyone else's nut that we care more for? Enjoy the show and I'm excited to now be part of Kelly's podcast adventure where she'll share the benefits and treasures you'll find LIVING LOCAL. Eps. 103 - In this episode, I had the greatest opportunity of being joined by cleaning extraordinaire, the REAL Matt Paxton, from A&E's Hoarders. Matt is an adventurous entrepreneur and for the past ten years has made a name for himself as an extreme cleaner, successful speaker, TV personality, author, and truly honest person. Matt has been on featured on the Joe Rogan Experience & Mohr Stories Jay Moore. I started following Matt prior to launching this podcast and tackling personal issues with my father, a long time hoarder. His book, Secret Life of Hoarders, did so much for my family at a time when we needed it the most. Matt hosted a podcast called "5 Decisions Away" that was the catalyst in my podcasting career and he's been a household name ever since. In this episode, Matt and I talk about where his entrepreneurial mindset started, his connection with those that need his help the most, and why things become more important than people. Oh, and Matt relinquishes his most bizarre extreme hoarding experiences. Awesome show and thanks for listening.
