In this episode, Joe Moore welcomes LP Giobbi, an internationally famous DJ, electronic music producer, and jazz pianist. LP shares the story behind Dead House, her project blending Grateful Dead samples with house music. What started as a tribute to her parents during pandemic live streams has become a celebrated musical movement. Joe and LP explore the deeper connection between music and psychedelics. They talk about Bicycle Day, the story of Albert Hofmann's famous LSD bike ride, and how psychedelics can support creativity and personal growth. LP opens up about her own experiences with psychedelics, touring burnout, and how she's learning to reconnect with her body through music and intention. The conversation also highlights LP's work with Fem House, an educational platform that empowers women and gender-expansive individuals in music production. She explains how representation, access, and support are key to shifting the music industry. This is a warm, inspiring, candid episode about breaking barriers, finding your voice, and leading purposefully. If you're in Denver, catch Dead House live at Meow Wolf on Bicycle Day!

In this inspiring and far-reaching conversation, Joe Moore is joined by Vince Kadlubek, the founder and Chief Visionary Officer of Meow Wolf, the groundbreaking arts and entertainment company known for its massive, immersive art experiences. Together, they dive deep into Meow Wolf's humble DIY origins, its evolution into a multi-city creative juggernaut, and how it intertwines with psychedelic culture and expanded states of consciousness. Vince shares the story of Meow Wolf's formation in Santa Fe, the evolution from a group of passionate friends into a thousand-person company, and the power of belief, creativity, and visionary leadership. He reflects on raising funding from George R. R. Martin and major investors, navigating massive growth, and the challenge of keeping the creative spark alive in the face of institutionalization. They also discuss the upcoming Bicycle Day Portal Takeover at Meow Wolf Denver on April 19, which will feature performances, talks, and immersive experiences throughout the exhibition—with appearances from Reggie Watts, Duncan Trussell, Zach Leary, and more. From the imaginative to the esoteric, Vince and Joe explore the intersection of psychedelics and art, the nature of reality and the imaginal realm, and how to build beauty and wonder into the world around us.
On today's episode, I talk to illustrator and comics creator Brian Blomerth. Brian grew up in Newport News, Virginia, and in college started to move towards making art for a living. Some of his early work was for Vice, as well as making tour posters for bands like Phish or album artwork for musicians like Ryley Walker. Since 2019, he's been working on a series of books about 20th century psychonauts starting with Bicycle Day, about the discovery of LSD, and the follow-up, Mycelium Wassonii, about the scientist couple responsible for popularizing the use of psychedelic mushrooms in the US. His most recent book, Lilly Wave, about the life of scientist and psychedelic dolphin tormentor John C. Lilly, came out in October, and it's a delight!

In this episode, Joe and Kyle interview Lenny Gibson, Ph.D.: philosopher, Grof-certified Holotropic Breathwork® facilitator, 20-year professor of transpersonal psychology at Burlington College, and the reason Joe and Kyle met many years ago. He talks about his early LSD experiences and how his interest in the philosophy of Plato and Alfred North Whitehead provided a framework and language for understanding a new mystical world where time and space were abstractions. He believes that while culture sees the benefits of psychedelics in economic terms, the biggest takeaway from non-ordinary states is learning that value is the essence of everything. And as this is being released on Bicycle Day, he discusses Albert Hofmann's discovery and whether or not it's fair to say that Hofmann intentionally had the experience he did on that fateful day. He also discusses: The end of Cartesian thinking and the need for a new understanding of reality that incorporates the insights of quantum mechanics How philosophy has been taught as an intellectual endeavor, and how we need to embrace the practical and conceptual side of life John Dewey and quantitative thinking, William James and pragmatism, and was Aristotle a Platonist? The novelty of the creation of LSD, and how it gave us a path to a mystical experience that wasn't culturally bound and more! For links, head to the show notes page.
Happy Bicycle Day to those who celebrate! And to those who don't...it's story time. This episode isn't just a history lesson; it's an investigation into the therapeutic effects of LSD. Let's dive into the cultural ties between psychedelic use and music preferences, and get into how these substances have been linked to iconic movements, counterculture and the war on drugs.Venture through the shadowy corridors of LSD's past with us as we uncover stories from the serendipitous discovery by Albert Hofmann to the chilling MK-Ultra experiments. We illuminate the societal implications and cultural shifts brought about by LSD, acknowledging the contributions of visionaries like Timothy Leary and Ram Dass in our understanding of consciousness. Finally, we confront the ethical conundrums and practical challenges of psychedelic use in today's world. You'll hear tales of personal transformation, insights into literature, and the paradoxes that make LSD such an enigma. Christine offers her perspective on the evolving perceptions of psychedelics and the importance of maintaining curiosity when diving into the depths of the mind. Whether you're a psychedelic enthusiast or just keen on the influence of these substances on self-awareness and culture, this episode invites you to peer through the kaleidoscope of LSD's fascinating landscape.Armchair Expert MK-Ultra Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/episode/7F2sG7xIrbPmvmxi4Gyzkn?si=cu-kZQPSTmSUnfrua7Fc4ABooks We Recommend: https://amzn.to/4aFyrnU Colors Use code OTHERSIDE15 for 15% off of our favorite mushroom gummies!Support the showOur Website:https://linktr.ee/seeyouontheothersidepodcast

April 19th, which is this Friday, marks an odd holiday known as Bicycle Day — the day, now 81 years ago, when Swiss scientist Albert Hofmann rode his bike home from work after dosing himself with his lab concoction, lysergic acid diethylamide, or LSD. The first acid trip.Hofmann's wobbly ride is what launches us into an exploration of a moment, when Ken Kesey, an evangelist of acid would emerge from a Menlo Park hospital lab, and plow through the nation's gray flannel culture in a candy colored bus. Some know Kesey as the enigmatic author behind One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest — others, as the driving force in The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, Tom Wolfe's seminal work in New Journalism. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the release of Acid Test, Brooke speaks with Wolfe and writer River Donaghey about how acid shaped Kesey, spawned the book and de-normalized American conformity.Songs:Holidays B by Ib GlindemannIm Glück by Neu!Apache '65 by Davie Allan and the ArrowsSelections from "The Acid Tests Reels" by The Merry Pranksters & The Grateful DeadAlicia by Los MonstruosThe Days Between by The Grateful Dead (Live 6/24/95) On the Media is supported by listeners like you. On April 19, 1943 Swiss chemist Dr. Albert Hoffman took the world's first LSD trip, which included a rather harrowing bicycle ride home from his lab that day. For the next sixty years, Hoffman would be fascinated by his famous "problem child," a powerful molecule that changed the course of history. Comedian Shane Mauss ("A Better Trip") tells us the story of Bicycle Day, which is now celebrated around the world. In episode #132 of The XS Noize Podcast, Mark Millar meets Colin Angus for his first AI interview about his new band “Moship.” The Shamans originator discusses his new project via AIngus, Moships AI aide. Moship is an electronic music duo consisting of Colin Angus and Digital Habitat. The duo released their first track, ‘A2E ft Michael Horowitz', on the 80th anniversary of Bicycle Day (the original Lab Leak), when acid godfather Dr Albert Hofmann wobbled home on two wheels, experiencing the full spectrum of psychedelic effects from the nascent LSD-25 he had recently synthesized and imbibed. Colin Angus and Digital Habitat are cohorts with unique backgrounds and influences, creating a sound blend of psychedelia, house, ambient, and dub elements. Digital Habitat released various nuggets experimenting with the above musical vibes from London and a northern coastal outpost. Colin is a Scots musician, lyrical cultivator, entheogen advocate & (m)adventurer. Colin was in The Shamen, who made psychedelic music from the mid-80s to the end of the 20th century & had a chart hit with Terence McKenna. Colin and Digital Habitat linked up at a performance by Violetta@St Pancras Old Church then began musing together remotely before initiating Moship during the dark daze of the plandemonic/ crockdown era. Michael Horowitz is an American writer, editor and psychedelic historian. He co-founded the world's first psychoactive drug library, co-edited collections of Aldous Huxley (Moksha), Timothy Leary (Chaos & Cyber Culture) and women's drug literature (Sisters of the Extreme), and was Leary's archivist and bibliographer. The lyrics to A2E are an extended mix of a talk he gave at the World Psychedelic Forum in Basel in 2006, honouring LSD discoverer Albert Hofmann. In this episode of Psychedelics Weekly, Joe and Kyle once again record in person, diving into novel compounds, changing opinions, Bicycle Day, and more. They start by dissecting a very recent controversy around The Church of Psilomethoxin and whether the sacrament they label as psilomethoxin – supposedly created by adding 5-MeO-DMT to the substrate of cultivated Psilocybe mushrooms – actually contains any psilomethoxin in it. Usona Institute published a paper last week reporting on their analysis of a sample they allegedly collected from the Church, which only showed what we'd see in a sample of a typical psilocybin-containing mushroom. While the Church has issues with Usona's data collection, analytical methods, and motives, they also reiterate a main component of the church: that their "claims to the existence of Psilomethoxin, at this time, are solely based on faith," and bolstered by their “own direct experiences with the Sacrament.” It's a very interesting story that touches on faith, consent, personal safety, and the harms of the drug war, which Joe covered extensively in a Twitter Space last night with Andrew Gallimore and the writer of a very critical article, Mario de la Fuente. They also discuss: -a Time magazine article about the mystery of Long COVID, and how many believe the anti-inflammatory and neuroplastic benefits of psychedelics could be the answer; -how Bicycle Day may soon become more popular than 4/20, likely due to society's warmer reception to the life-changing effects of psychedelics (as opposed to their propagandized and unmoving beliefs about cannabis); -how some analysts believe that seven in 10 ketamine companies will likely face financial challenges as the industry grows too quickly; and why Snoop Dogg apparently microwaves blunts before smoking them (and does that actually do anything?). www.psychedelicstoday.com

This episode of the MAPS podcast features an all new interview with Dr. Richard Louis Miller author of the new book 'Psychedelic Wisdom: The Astonishing Reward of Mind Altering Substances." The mission of this publication – and the book of the same name – is to reveal what up to now has been suppressed in the mainstream. I have chosen to bring about this change through two primary avenues: illuminating the science of psychedelics and influencing the culture to accept them as medicines. Dr. Miller talks with Zach about a wide range of issues ranging from harm reduction to politics to the lasting effects of the 60's promise of a new world. Dr. Miller is a wise, warm and hilarious soul whose voice must be heard. Richard Louis Miller is an American clinical psychologist, author, founder of Wilbur Hot Springs Health Sanctuary, and broadcaster who hosts the Mind Body Health & Politics radio program. The program feature national figures from the world of medicine, psychology and politics. ALSO - This is the Bicycle Day '23 edition of the MAPS Podcast!

Have you ever heard of Bicycle Day? It's the day that celebrates the discovery of LSD by Swiss chemist Albert Hoffman. In this episode of our podcast, join Simon and Watt as we delve into the story of Albert Hoffman and the profound impact his discovery had on society and culture. We start off by talking about Hoffman's initial discovery of LSD in 1943 and the bicycle ride that followed, which is now celebrated as Bicycle Day. It's amazing to think that a single chemical compound could have such a profound impact on the world, but LSD certainly did.We also touch on the psychedelic movement of the 1960s and its association with LSD, which was being used recreationally by a growing number of people. But despite its popularity, LSD was also becoming increasingly demonized by the government and the media, leading to a widespread backlash against its use.As we discuss the story of LSD, we also touch on the legal and health risks associated with using illegal substances, and the importance of prioritising our own health and safety above all else. We want to be clear that while we acknowledge the historical significance of LSD, we do not condone, condemn or promote the use of illegal substances. That being said, we also recognise that there is growing research into the potential therapeutic benefits of substances like LSD, particularly for those who are neurodivergent or living with mental health conditions. We hope to explore this topic more deeply in future episodes and invite our listeners to share their own stories and experiences with us.Overall, the story of Albert Hoffman and the discovery of LSD is a fascinating and complex one, and we hope that this episode has provided some insight into the impact that this chemical compound has had on our world. In this episode, on the eve of Bicycle Day, Victoria and Kyle interview two long-standing icons of visionary psychedelic art: Alex and Allyson Grey. They talk about the LSD trip that saved Alex's life, connected him to Allyson, inspired his art, and even made him change his name; his decades-in-the-making “Sacred Mirrors” project of 21 7-foot tall pieces depicting the complex layers of human existence; the interconnectedness of life; the history of psychedelic art; how imagination and non-ordinary states help us connect with the divine; and the value of art in conveying the mystical experience. Alex and Allyson are the Co-Founders of the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, an interspiritual church/retreat center in upstate New York that, after years of work, is debuting Entheon: an art sanctuary and psychedelic reliquary featuring much of their art and work from favorite artists, a shrine to Tool (who Alex has worked with for most of their career), and a collection of relics from psychedelic legends that includes Albert Hofmann's glasses, art signed by Stan Grof and the Shulgins, and even Timothy Leary's ashes. Entheon opens on June 3, on the anniversary of the first acid trip the Greys took together, which gave them a framework for understanding life and an inspiration for art they still follow to this day. And in honor of Bicycle Day, Alex talks about two pieces dedicated to Albert Hofmann, and continues his Bicycle Day tradition of reading a statement Hofmann made a year before he passed about psychedelics being the “absolute highest importance to consciousness change.” In celebration of Albert Hofmann and the gift he gave us, and with inspiration from the incredibly complex and beautiful art Alex and Allyson create, have a happy, safe, and creative Bicycle Day! www.psychedelicstoday.com

The Du-Rites' JAY MUMFORD, formerly known as the producer/emcee J-Zone, has worn many hats throughout his career—rapper, beat-maker, DJ, author/journalist, and finally drummer. J-Zone developed an underground rap following during the early 2000s indie hip-hop explosion. As he got older, Mumford grew increasingly jaded with the rap industry, before bottoming out. Sitting on the throne of a drum set, Jay would rediscover his passion for the funk music that first inspired him as a teenager. The major transition began to take shape in 2011, when J-Zone attempted to quit rap, write a hip-hop memoir, and start over as “Jay Mumford on drums” in his mid-30's. An unlikely story, but one definitively his own. On Episode 065, with no holds barred Jay Mumford takes us through this roller-coaster journey, career highlights, lowlights, battles between his ears, and a-ha moments along the way. 2:30 - Thanks to Discovery 2023, Bicycle Day, Electric KoolAid for sponsoring ep.065 6:30 - The Upful Update 9:45 - Introducing JAY MUMFORD (fka J-Zone) 13:30 - INTERVIEW w/ Jay (119 mins) Currently, Jay Mumford holds down the drumkit in a few bands, his main gig is The Du-Rites, a garage-funk duo with Tom Tom Club guitarist Pablo Martin. Mumford has been working with Adrian Quesada's solo projects, including a performance on Austin City Limits with an 18-piece ensemble, an evening Jay refers to as the best experience of his 25 year career. Mumford remains renowned for his ‘Royalty Free Drum Breaks' drum packs, ideal for sample-based producers to mine meticulously-crafted breakbeats laid down in his late grandparents' basement. For a few years, he moonlit as a music journalist, blogging nuanced topics in hip-hop and drummer culture. Jay hosted the phenomenal ‘Give The Drummer Some,' - an illuminating interview series for now-defunct Red Bull Music Academy. The talk radio-style program highlighted the songs, lessons, and legacies of underground/unsung heroes from the ‘60s and ‘70s. ***Deep Bow*** to Jay for this thoughtful, personal, inspiring conversation. There's been an explosion of interest in psychedelics over the last 10 years, and phrases like “psychedelic-assisted therapy” have gone from the relative fringes of the mental health conversation to bursting into the mainstream. Alongside a great deal of hype is a growing body of research revealing the potential of substances like psilocybin and MDMA as novel treatments for depression, addiction, and PTSD. On today's episode of Being Well, Forrest is joined by Dr. Albert Garcia-Romeu from the Johns Hopkins Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness Research. They explore the history and current state of psychedelic research, their subjective effects, the necessity of the “trip,” how psychedelics work in the brain, why researchers are so interested in these substances, and what a psychedelic-assisted therapy session looks like.About Our Guest: Dr. Garcia-Romeu is a member of the Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences faculty at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His research examines the effects of psychedelics in humans, with a focus on psilocybin as an aid in the treatment of addiction.Watch the Episode: Prefer watching video? Today we celebrate Bicycle Day, a modern semi-holiday (unrecognized by official governmental agencies yet observed by psychedelic enthusiasts across the globe) that commemorates Swiss chemist Albert Hoffman's bike ride home from his lab on April 19th, 1943, after ingesting 250 micrograms of lysergic acid diethlymide, and in the process creating the world's first recorded intentional LSD trip. When Hoffman originally synthesized the compound in 1938, in the Sandoz Pharmeacuticals laboratory, in Basel, he had deemed it next to useless, and put it up on the shelf to be forgotten - but five years later, something within him told him to take a second look. The rest, as they say, is history. Today's Voices of Esalen episode is a treasure drawn from our extensive archives - an interview with Albert Hoffman himself, conducted by none other than Stanislav Grof, sometimes known as the godfather of LSD psychotherapy. Grof was a Czechoslovakian psychoanalyst who was enormously influenced by Hoffman's discovery of LSD; in his research in Czechoslovakia he oversaw tens of thousands of supervised therapeutic LSD trips. Grof would emigrate to the United States in the late 1960's, a move precipitated by the Soviet invasion of his country. Grof spent more than ten years as a teacher in residence at the Esalen Institute during the 1970's and 80's, where he developed the practice of holotropic breath work and became one of the founders of the school of transpersonal psychology. In this interview, Grof and Hoffman explore a host of topics, including Hoffman's discovery of LSD and how on his first trip, Hoffman freaked out and thought he was going insane, then thought he was dying; how Hoffman then became aware that his new discovery would have immense significance to the field of psychiatry; why Hoffman believed LSD could be used as a model psychosis and a way to study schizophrenia; how Hoffman collaborated with amateur mycologist R. Gordon Wasson to create a synthetic version of so-called magic mushrooms, which would be known as psilocybin; how Hoffman traveled to Mexico to deliver this modern version of mushrooms to the famed curandera Maria Sabina, who had introduced Wasson to the mushrooms in the first place, and more. They end this interview by speaking about Hoffman's reaction to the way LSD escaped the laboratory and infiltrated culture during the turbulent 1960s. This interview was conducted at Esalen Institute in 1984 - just one part of the ever evolving and complex tapestry of history that unfolded here in Big Sur.
I just realized that I've been using social media for almost 1/3 of my life. That's almost two decades! For 20 years, I've been on this soul-sucking shit wagon of a product. What a waste of time if I'm being honest. How long have you been on social media? Also, there's a chance that MySpace will be purchased in the near future. My bet is that it will be repositioned as a Web3 and/or NFT platform!
Bicycle Day commemorates the day when Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann was the first human to trip on LSD on April 19, 1943.And now, there is a growing movement in the United States to decriminalize and legalize psychedelic substances, such as psilocybin – the active ingredient in “magic mushrooms.” New research shows that these psychedelic drugs can be used for recreation and also for therapeutic treatments. In November 2020, Oregon became the first state to legalize psilocybin-assisted therapy, alongside decriminalizing the personal possession of drugs more broadly. In Cities such as Denver, Oakland, California and Washington, D.C., voters have approved ballot measures to decriminalize the personal possession of psychedelic mushrooms. And although Psilocybin and other psychedelics remain illegal under federal drug laws, there are several prominent universities studying psychedelic-aided therapy and its effectiveness in treating mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD and – perhaps most surprisingly – addiction. We speak with Michael Pollan, Co-founder of the Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics and author of How To Change Your Mind: What The New Science Of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, And Transcendence, about the history of Bicycle Day, the criminalization of psychedelics, and psychedelic-aided therapy.
This show is brought to you by a special message from Hello Nurse: porn does indeed save relationships, despite us recording an episode that had evidence that it destroyed one (episode 30). The Gents are ready to celebrate the 64th episode of the podcast by dedicating the show to one thing that brings us life: memes (11:00). After reflecting on how their Easter Sundays went, EstoBro puts TV on the spot about his reaction to the latest Kingdom Hearts news (14:10). The topic is well under discussion, as the popular video game franchise is celebrating its twentieth anniversary. The Gents also enable the fact that Disney should be giving Kingdom Hearts a great deal of more respect, before transitioning to the focus of the new Disney+ series Moon Knight (29:45). EstoBro educates TV a little bit on the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as everyone is getting ready for the wave of movies that will be featured soon. The discussion turns to the NBA playoffs officially underway (38:35), as both EstoBro and TV make bold predictions on who will come out on top as champion in the next few weeks. The major focus of the competition is complemented by the inaugural class of ESPN's Hall of Fame of Sports Memes (67:30). With the anniversary of the crying Michael Jordan meme, the Gents criticize what was selected on the list and what are some honorable mentions to be honored in the HOF in the near future. The show wraps with the 'Who has the munchies?' segment (81:25), basically dedicating the food aspect of the show to the holiday this exact episode releases on. Reflecting on the segment from episodes of the past, the Gents make some commitments to improving a better record of their food debates; from full tailored chicken sandwich reviews to planning road trips for new restaurant experiences.Be sure to follow us everywhere for the EstoBro TV Podcast on all the following social media networks:Twitter: @etv_podInstagram: @estobrotvpodPublic Facebook Group: EstoBro TV PodcastTumblr: https://estobrotvpodcast.tumblr.com/ Email us: estobrotvpod@gmail.com
