What is perfection? Motivation looks different to different people. For some, striving towards perfection is the greatest motivator for excellence. For others, who take a more incremental approach, just getting better in little chunks and seeing improvement provide enough incentive to move forward. To live well, we must all strike that middle ground-- have aspirational big-picture goals but also be okay with enjoying the little successes along the way. Join Steve and Dan Fouts – founders of Teach Different and twin brothers with over 50 years of teaching experience – along with guest Darren Rainey, a military veteran who has worked in secondary and postsecondary education, for a compelling conversation about perfection, enriched by the Teach Different Method. Whether you are a teacher, school leader, or simply someone interested in experiencing the joy and fulfillment of challenging kids with big ideas, join our worldwide Community of Educators FREE for 30 days. Sam and Emma host New Yorker contributor Eyal Press to discuss his recent book Dirty Work: Essential Jobs and the Hidden Toll of Inequality in America, on the moral division of labor and the emotional burden of getting by for countless Americans. They start off with Everett Hughes' essay “Good People and Dirty Work” and how the unconscious mandate that faced the Germans under the Nazi regime was not only unique to that time or place, but that countless other places, the US most certainly included, have morally questionable state-sanctioned action taken beyond the public consciousness. Eyal explores how he took this concept into today's America, looking at positions such as corrections officers, slaughterhouse, and oil rig workers, as well as diving into the labor behind the US's drone program. After touching on the similarities and differences when it comes to policing, and the cultural support behind it, he, Emma, and Sam dive into the story of Harriet, a mental health worker in the Florida prison system, and the abuses of her patients that she had to see and hear under threat of retribution by the guards if she reported it, working up to the death of Darren Rainey in 2012. While nobody in power was punished, of course, Press looks towards Bill Curtis's analysis putting the fault, ultimately, on the Florida voters that elected Rick Scott and a government with a platform of expanding the prison population while cutting all funding for mental health. Next, they move to look inside both a poultry slaughterhouse and oil rigs, exploring how the distaste by society for labor that is absolutely necessary for it to function as it helps to obscure the horrifying conditions in which that labor takes place, exploring the meat processing industry's majority women of color and immigrant workforce and the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill which resulted in the deaths of 11 workers. Lastly, they go from the private to governmental sector as Eyal takes on the emotional turmoil of officers behind the US's Bipartisan drone program and pawning off of the gore and horror, disassociating it from the elite in power and the public eye. They wrap up the interview by discussing the central role American Capitalism and Imperialism play in this moral division of labor, and the ingrained nature of the exploitation of workers even onto the emotional level. Sam and Emma also touch on the incredible moment in labor organizing that we are currently in, before discussing the behind-the-scenes horrors facing school board members taking the brunt of the astroturf anti-mask movement. And in the Fun Half: Charlie Kirk gets just absolutely schooled by Ben Gleib on literally just knowing what a human is, a caller discusses VA Beach's inability to get its police under control to the point that it's affecting tourism, and Will from Cincinnati discusses the David Shor piece on popularism and the Democrats' multi decade-long commitment to not getting anything popular done. Laura Ingraham and Raymond Arroyo work to desexualize children's toys by making AIDS jokes, Chris from Mass takes on the cognitive dissonance in the hunting and conservationist communities, and Lauren Windsor asserts herself as one of the best intelligence agents that doesn't work for an oppressive regime, plus, your calls and IMs! https://melbaformiami.com/ https://jen2020.com/ https://rossbarkan.substack.com/ Melba Pearson is challenging Katherine Rundle Fernandez, Miami-Dade's corrupt and craven State Attorney who the local Democratic has asked to step down over her failure to prosecute abusive police. In one infamous case Rundle Fernandez exonerated the prison guards who essentially boiled Darren Rainey, a Black schizophrenic inmate, to death by keeping him in a scalding shower for two hours. In another case, she refused to prosecute a police officer accused of sexual assault. Her office only interviewed one of his alleged survivors. Then I speak to Journalist Ross Barkan about why the media gives Andrew Cuomo such a free pass and congressional candidate Jen Perelman who is challenging Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

In 2012, a Florida prisoner died after being locked in a shower for two hours. Darren Rainey, a 50-year-old inmate at the Dade Correctional Institution, was serving a two-year sentence for cocaine possession. Having been diagnosed with schizophrenia, Darren was serving his sentence in Dade's Transitional Care Unit (the official name given for the prison's psych ward). On June 23rd, guards noticed that Darren was suffering from a psychotic break. They escorted him to the showers, where his body was found two hours later. Nearly a decade later, Darren's fate continues to be mired in mystery and confusion... George Mallinckrodt's primary objective is to elevate Darren Rainey's story to the national level to expose not only what happens in Florida to the severely mentally ill, but to also begin a dialogue regarding the 20% of severely mentally ill in all prisons and jails in the U.S. June 23rd 2012 Darren Rainey was forced into a shower by officers at Dade Correctional Institution and left there, under a blistering spray of scalding water, for nearly two hours. Rainey screamed and begged to be let out of the small stall before finally collapsing in a heap, his skin peeling. Since Rainey's death, it was discovered that he and other mentally ill inmates at the prison had been tortured, beaten, starved and left to sleep in their own excrement. While Rainey's death has led to some reforms in the treatment of the mentally ill in Florida prisons, the prison system remains dangerously understaffed and rife with violence, as evidenced by recent riots and turmoil at Franklin Correctional Institution in north-central Florida. George joins me this morning to discuss the injustices on the mentally Ill in our criminal justice system and what to do to top it. Longtime Activist, Journalist, Coffee Party Director & Radio Host, Bobby Rodrigo brings you "I Take LIBERTY With My Coffee" on Coffee Party Radio every Sunday Morning at 10:00 AM. Advocating engagement Bobby points out the Constitution is the Rule of Law and why it should remain so. Money in Politics, the Political Party Machine, Cannabis Prohibition and partisan blind allegiance is on full display as he advocates against the erosion of Constitutional Protections in the name of corruption & tyranny. "If we focused on following the Constitution we would solve many of the ills of our society. Offering guests from Political Organizations, Activism, Media & Artists Bobby invites you to join him Sunday Morning at 10:00 AM on Coffee Party Radio
