If you've ever felt like you're “too much” for traditional branding advice, this episode is for you. I'm joined by Rebecca Miller from Block & Rose, a positioning strategist, story distiller and identity alchemist who helps multifaceted founders and creatives become known for how they think - not just what they do.Rebecca's worked across everything from brand campaigns that got thousands of people talking about incontinence pads, to teaching at Ravensbourne University and leading strategy sessions for major organisations like University of the Arts London. She now supports values-led entrepreneurs who've outgrown their niche or their messaging and are ready to build a brand that feels radically true.We talk about what happens when you've evolved beyond your old story, how to distil complexity into clarity, and why clarity isn't about choosing one thing - it's about finding the thread that ties it all together.Highlights:(02:10) – Rebecca's journey from marketing director to messaging mentor(06:10) – Why mainstream brand frameworks fall short for founders(09:00) – The myth of the perfect niche and what really matters(11:00) – Building a circular, flexible brand ecosystem(14:40) – The “path to intelligent movement” case study(19:00) – Messaging for multi-dimensional creatives(25:00) – The hidden burnout cost of not feeling seen(29:50) – Identity, alignment and finding your true brand voice(33:20) – How personal branding just got a rebrandConnect with Rebecca:WebsiteLinkedinTo find out more:WebsiteInstagramDownload the FREE Everyday Sales Machine GuideFree Quarterly Clarity Mapping ToolThis podcast is proudly produced by Wavemakers Audio
Mr. Scorsese is “Marty” to his friends and “Legend” to admirers and imitators. But he's also still that kid, the "minuscule asthmatic”--as lovingly described by his ex-wife, Isabella Rossellini--who fervently loved both the movies he watched in Times Square as well as the characters that populated the Little Italy of his youth. The results were "Mean Streets", "Taxi Driver", "Raging Bull", and "Goodfellas". But as Rebecca Miller (“Personal Velocity”, “Maggie's Plan”, “Arthur Miller: Writer”) compellingly shows, Scorsese's triumph was not inevitable, nor is it simply the inevitable result of personal history yoked to directorial will. For while Scorsese has an anthropologist's eye, his films are not documentaries (except for the documentaries, of course!) Rather, they are the product of his own prodigious preparation combined with a willingness to trust his actors (notably, DiNero and DiCaprio) to improvise–and, in the end, phenomenal editing shaped by deep learning from the French New Wave as well as his decades-long professional relationship with Thelma Schoonmaker. While his films are often grounded in fully formed literary works, he makes of them what director Ari Aster calls “total cinema”. And while the visuals putatively reign, the music often seems to take the lead, almost directing the camera's movements. And in the end, in complicating the work of what may seem to be one of our most personal filmmakers, Miller suggests that Scorsese's wider purpose is to chronicle “the American project.” You can watch the 5-part series “Mr. Scorcese” on Apple+ Follow: @rebeccamillerstoryteller on Instagram @topdocspod on Instagram and X/twitter The Presenting Sponsor of "Top Docs" is Netflix.

It's a Martin Scorsese special episode of the Film Stories podcast, kicking off with the tale behind 1980's immense Raging Bull. This is the film the Scorsese for a long time didn't want to make, but Robert De Niro did. It was also the film that involved some trading off with Rocky II to get the money to make in the first place. And it'd involve De Niro going to extreme lengths to get his Oscar-winning performance right. Martin Scorsese is also the subject of five-part Apple TV documentary series Mr Scorsese, that's been directed by Rebecca Miller. She joins Simon to chat about how the documentary came together, the five year path to getting it made, and nuns... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Widely hailed by critics, audiences, and artists alike as one of the greatest directors working today, Martin Scorsese—the subject of Rebecca Miller's monumental NYFF Spotlight selection Mr. Scorsese—is a lifelong trailblazer, a guiding light whose passionately committed artistic vision, ebullient cinephilia, and dedicated stewardship of film history (exemplified through his work with The Film Foundation and the World Cinema Project) have left an indelible mark on the terrain of American and global cinema for the last six decades. On the occasion of Mr. Scorsese's world premiere, the special panel discussion On Mr. Scorsese took viewers behind the scenes of Miller's comprehensive biographical portrait and celebrated the enduring influence and still-evolving legacy of this icon of American cinema. The discussion centered on his vibrant creative relationships with longtime collaborators in front of and behind the camera, placing those artists in conversation with fellow filmmakers whose own work bears the influence of the great auteur's artistry and mentorship. Panelists included Rebecca Miller, Ari Aster, Michael Imperioli, and Margaret Bodde (producer and Executive Director of the Film Foundation), moderated by NYFF Talks programmer Madeline Whittle. The 63rd New York Film Festival and On Mr. Scorsese are presented in partnership with Rolex.

From my lips, to your ears – don't eat McDonalds hamburgers. Under any circumstances. I'm falling out of love with movies as I get older. (Are you?) One complaint after another, and I submit to you a reason the movie industry and movie culture is in a state of stagnation for a reason no one else is considering; a lack of visionary PRODUCERS. Roofman, the movie. My 2,500 cents on Mr. Scorsese, the documentary. Big shake up at Studio A.

Sean and Amanda begin the show by honoring the legendary actor Diane Keaton, who passed away at 79 last Saturday (3:19). Then, following a disappointing box office performance from a handful of new weekend releases, they have an extensive conversation around what audiences want from movies at the movie theater (9:54). They form a rubric from their main takeaways and apply it to ‘Tron: Ares' (14:53), ‘Roofman' (29:47), and ‘After the Hunt' (0:00). Finally, they briefly cover Rebecca Miller's new documentary miniseries, ‘Mr. Scorsese,' a thorough exploration of Martin Scorsese's fascinating and iconic career (46:54). They then have Miller herself on to talk through the incredible journey and process from start to finish (1:14:18). This week's Empire Podcast sees Chris Hewitt, Helen O'Hara and James Dyer pay tribute to two cinematic greats who left us this week: the legendary Oscar-winning actress, Diane Keaton, and Drew Struzan, the artist who defined posters, and people's walls, for decades. Struzan's work inspires this week's question, which asks our trio to identify the greatest poster of all time. Elsewhere in the show, they discuss the week's movie news, including the return of Sam Raimi, and review Roofman, After The Hunt, Black Phone 2, and briefly discuss Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein and Edward Berger's Ballad Of A Small Player. Guest-wise, our cup overfloweth yet again, as Chris sits down on Zoom (sorry about his audio track, he didn't have access to his microphone) with Rebecca Miller, director of the excellent Apple documentary about Martin Scorese, Mr. Scorsese, [25:26 - 40:19 approx] and in person with the delightful stars of Roofman, Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst. [1:04:01 - 1:19:13 approx] And Sophie Butcher has a lovely chat with Black Phone 2 stars, Mason Thames (who, contrary to what Chris thinks, does not pronounce his name like the river) and Madeleine McGraw. [1:43:07 - 1:58:08 approx] Enjoy!

The ceasefire in Gaza is just four days old, and already there are signs of tension: Hamas says it's handed over all the hostages remains it can access, without specialist equipment. Israel is restricting aid in retaliation. Meanwhile, Israel returned 120 bodies of Palestinians held during the war, some of which show signs of abuse and beating. And with Hamas reasserting its authority in brutal fashion against ordinary Palestinians there are also growing questions around the future governance of Gaza. Swapnil Gupta is an Associate Professor and Medical Director of Ambulatory Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital. She was trained as a psychiatrist in India and the United States, at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and Yale University, and PGI Chandigarh in India. She is known for her work on deprescribing from and discontinuation of psychiatric drugs. Dr. Gupta's career began with research on the role of the endocannabinoid system in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia as an academic psychiatrist. Her subsequent scholarship has focused on applying deprescribing, the systematic reduction of unnecessary medications, to psychiatry by rooting it in the principles of recovery-oriented care. She has authored several peer-reviewed papers on deprescribing and co-authored a book with Rebecca Miller and John Cahill. She is an active member of two organizations that aim to enhance stakeholder engagement in psychiatric research. She is also a part of the editorial board of the Community Mental Health Journal. Currently, she is working on creating educational resources to help people discontinue psychiatric medications and gathering information on the knowledge and opinions of psychiatrists regarding the discontinuation of such drugs. In this interview, we discuss deprescribing from psychiatric drugs, the difficult decisions faced by patients, the importance of psychosocial support during withdrawal, and how deprescribing is central to recovery-oriented practices such as shared decision and patient choice. We will also tackle the complex issue of whether the recurrence of symptoms once a drug is tapered is a mark of relapse or withdrawal caused by the psychiatric medication. *** Thank you for being with us to listen to the podcast and read our articles this year. Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones they made in between. We discuss everyone's favorite method man: Daniel Day-Lewis. Our B-Sides are 1988's Stars and Bars, Eversmile, New Jersey (1989), Jim Sheridan's The Boxer, and Rebecca Miller's The Ballad of Jack and Rose. Returning guest Fiona Underhill joins us to discuss the myth-making around the actor, his process, as well as a few hot takes on whether some of his most lauded credits are properly rated. Naturally, we also discuss his peak ‘90s hotness (it's a tie between, Mohicans and The Crucible, by the way), and his influence, for better or worse, on a younger generation of actors. The scope of our B-Sides unlock a few lesser-seen tools in Day-Lewis' belt, from the farcical to the oddball. These are modes he doesn't necessarily seem comfortable in as a younger star, but that serve as practice for when he deconstructs his own serious image with his career peak in Phantom Thread. We can all be glad he gave us Reynolds Woodcock before retiring. Be sure to give us a follow on Twitter and Facebook at @TFSBSide. Director Rebecca Miller discusses her new film, She Came to Me, with fellow Director Noah Baumbach in a Q&A at the DGA theater in New York. In the conversation, she discusses how her background as a painter gave her an eye for composing scenes, how she overcame challenges that arose on-set and how she learned the dynamics of each Actor's methods in order to work with them. The film tells the story of Steven, who is unable to finish the score for his big comeback opera. At the behest of his wife and former therapist, Patricia, he sets out in search of inspiration, but finds much more than he bargained for in the form of Katrina- a tugboat captain with her own obsessions. Find out how Calgary is leading the agribusiness revolution: http://www.calgaryagbusiness.comEdgar's Feed and Seed: https://www.edgarsfeedandseed.ca/I know many of you are entrepreneurial. Maybe you've dreamed about starting a company. But there are many established companies that are looking for their next owner. In 2013, at the age of 23, Elliott and Rebecca Miller acquired Edgar's Feed and Seed in Ontario, Canada. Through a good relationship with the previous owner, Elliott and Rebecca were able to utilize seller financing to buy the local ag retail company. Now after 10 years of ownership, they've been able to not only keep it afloat but to grow and expand. In 2013 at the age of 23, Elliott and Rebecca, purchased a business, got married, and bought a farm. That's a busy year! The business they bought is Edgar's Feed and Seed, which today offers retail products for livestock and agronomic services for a wide range of crops. They've also started carrying frozen meats, cheeses and other specialty pantry items from all over Ontario and Canada. They purchased the business from Niel Edgar, who was Elliott's boss there at the time, and now works for the Millers as an employee of the company. Today's episode will focus on their journey to acquiring a business at such a young age, making it work in the early years as they paid it off, and how they've grown it since. This is a pretty inspiring couple, and hopefully will help get your wheels turning about business opportunities in your local area.
