The Supreme Court ruled that former President Trump is at least presumptively immune from criminal liability for his official acts, and is absolutely immune for some of them — what does it mean about the election dispute and January 6 and other things? Wrapping up the debate, does anyone think Biden won? Why aren't there more questions about Biden's handlers-- somebody has to be changing his diapers. Judge Merchan vacates Trumps sentencing date until September 18th-- are they trying to make him unavailable for the next debate? In the Disney discrimination scandal continues-- "where dreams come true" has been replaced with "if you are white you ain't right" which rhymes but it less inspiring. Employees have been recorded admitting to the discrimination. Today's Headlines: In an alarming development, journalist Lauren Windsor recorded Roger Stone discussing plans to help Donald Trump secure the 2024 election, highlighting their improved preparation compared to 2020. Stone mentioned having a lawyer and a judge ready to stop alleged election fraud and outlined efforts to change state laws and monitor voter lists in real-time. Meanwhile, RFK Jr. has failed to qualify for the June 27th CNN debate due to not meeting the necessary polling and state ballot qualifications. In other news, Louisiana will be the first state to require the display of the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms by 2025, a move funded by donations. New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed a bill allowing parents to block algorithm-suggested social media posts and nighttime notifications for minors, with platforms given 180 days to comply. Lastly, Vermont state representative Mary Morrissey apologized for repeatedly pouring water into a colleague's tote bag, a bizarre act caught on camera. SERIES 2 EPISODE 196: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Yesterday in Milwaukee the melting of Trump's brain reached - or at least neared - its completion. He called the President of the United States and the obsession of his life "Joe Bride." He had lots of other episodes, but this is the all-time new high in low. JOE. BRIDE. No - he's fine. Ask Dr. Johnson. Dr. Jackson. Dr. Johnson. Dr. Jackson. My sister. My daughter. Joe Bride. Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, who are in essence running the Trump CAMPAIGN, are reportedly “worried” about Trump – specifically about his deteriorating mental condition. Can't imagine why (JOE BRIDE). And this is coming from two former Republicans still plugged into THAT side of the ball. Wiles and LaCivita, per Rick Wilson, are going to friendly journalists and, quoting Wilson, “are starting to whisper that ‘no one can control (Trump)'.” Former Republican Senate aide Tom Nichols meanwhile put his finger to the wind and said that the FLOOD of Trump campaign efforts to make it look like the no one can control PRESIDENT BIDEN are making HIM suspicious. Nichols now writes quote: “Republicans and their media ecosystem seem to be in a panic about their candidate… if Trump is doing so well, why is his campaign and its support system in right-wing media resorting to easily disproved lies?” Trump also stepped into it AGAIN not IN Milwaukee but ABOUT it. His campaign had to deny a heavily-sourced report from the ABC Television station in Chicago that during the convention – in Milwaukee – the place he called HORRIBLE last week – he won't even stay in a hotel there; that he will stay in his building in Chicago and COMMUTE. MEANWHILE: Roger Stone may conceivably have cost Judge Aileen Cannon her job. In the latest undercover audio released by my friend the investigative journalist Lauren Windsor and her colleague Ally Sammarco, Stone – at a Catholics for Catholics event AT Mar-a-Lago – made the mistake of hinting that the fix is IN in Trump's trial for stealing and keeping classified documents and other espionage act crimes… that when the Trump-appointed Cannon conducts a hearing day after tomorrow on the Trump motions to DISMISS all or most of the charges on the fabricated premise that the Special Counsel was unlawfully appointed, Stone seems – even for him – unusually confident Cannon really WILL throw the case. AND TRUMP JUNIOR tweeted a photo of CNN's Jim Acosta and wrote “LOL. Looks like CNN Fake News loser Acosta got an embarrassingly bad hair dye job.” Talk about “embarrassingly.” Bad hair dye job? Remember that among other living hells, Don Jr. is the guy who on a regular basis mounts that gargoyle Kimberly Guilfoyle who at age 55 trying to look 35 now has SO much make-up and SO much hair dye that she looks like Bette Davis in the movie “Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?” B-Block (21:19) Willie Mays, two days before he and the Negro Leagues in which he played, are to be honored with a San Francisco Giants' game at Rickwood Field where Mays' first team the Birmingham Black Barons played, has died at the age of 93. (32:17) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Josh Hawley spreads the "Biden wants to sit during the debate" lie. The BBC's unfortunate typo about self-identification for job applicants and what it did to the word "deaf." And Jeff Bezos sends an email to his Washington Post staff about the building being on fire and stuff and talk about getting a roll of stamps and e-mailing it in! C-Block (42:05) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Since Bezos is in the news, let me tell you of when I worked with his fiancé Lauren Sanchez, blackmail victim, and when I worked with David Letterman's future blackmailer.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Justice Alito and his wife seem to have some pretty deep and dark feelings about the people they dislike. Tim Miller also asks Lauren Windsor about the ethics of her undercover recordings. Plus, Ben Wittes shares his predictions for a presidential immunity ruling, his praise for Amy Coney Barrett's handing of the case, and his observations about the criminals Trump unapologetically hangs out with. show notes: Justice Alito's 2022 Notre Dame speech Lawfare's piece on a presidential self-pardon

SERIES 2 EPISODE 191: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: The polls continue to underscore it. Trump's conviction, just twelve days ago, is already half as important in voters' decision-making process as where the candidates stand on immigration. 28% tell CBS the convictions are a "major factor" for them, yet this number is dismissed because it isn't by itself decisive. A separate Morning Consult poll says Trump's net favorability is now four points below that of Biden's - because of the trial. And yet the President, and his advisors, and the old men of the Democratic Party continue to contrive to keep Joe Biden from saying the truth in public. He says the impact of the convictions is for the public to decide. No! That's for the public to decide? This isn't an American Idol vote. This isn't Coke versus Pepsi. This is democracy or dictatorship and most people don't know and YOU, Mr. President, have to make the case. You don't have to sink to Trump's brain-damaged rhetorical level but “that's for the public to decide?” HELP THEM DECIDE. TELL THEM THE TRUTH. Part of the problem is: the campaign seems to be incapable of realizing it can do multiple attacks on Trump - from criminality to dictatorship to the price of orange juice. I'll give some examples of the variety of ads they could run. MEANWHILE: KNOTTED BY WINDSOR. Justice Alito makes a fool of himself as my friend the investigative journalist Lauren Windsor records him agreeing that either the right or left will "win" - and he had a much better visit with her than did his wife. Martha-Ann Alito promises to get revenge against everybody, fly an anti-LGBTQ flag, and sue the bunch of them. It turns out everything we thought about them was comparatively positive. AND JUST FOR LAUGHS: Jonathan Turley has declared Trump "elderly." B-Block (34:44) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Alleged Democratic governor Hochul of New York, after freezing NYC congestion prices, apparently bails out on fundraiser hosted by auto dealers. Marge Barney Rubble Greene thinks electric cars run on gasoline. Politico with the typo of the year, about a fabulous "head of head." C-Block (40:21) FROM THE SPORTS CENTRAL CENTER NEWSDESK TONIGHT: I moved this last in case you are NOT a baseball fan of 57 seasons' duration whom the game is losing. The Athletic publishes its survey of current players and guess what! Turns out they all invented the game, and anybody who played before about 2010 was incompetent and irrelevant. Worse yet, somebody grabs my personal third rail, insulting Babe Ruth. Which means I have to go through mediocre reliever Adam Ottavino's 2018 contention that he would strike Babe Ruth out every time he faced him. If you brought Babe Ruth into baseball 2024 and gave him its tiny ballparks and elaborate video scouting and training regimens, he would hit 255 homers.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It's News Day Tuesday! Sam and Emma break down the biggest headlines of the day. First, Sam and Emma discuss the recent candidate forum between Rep. Jamaal Bowman & Westchester County Executive George Latimer, where Latimer made the claim that Rep. Bowman's constituencies were in Dearborn, Michigan and San Francisco, as opposed to the Bronx and Westchester. Then, they discuss the recent ceasefire resolution that passed through the United Nations (UN), and the strange, convoluted game of telephone that high ranking Biden administration officials like Secretary Blinken are playing when it comes to Hamas accepting a ceasefire deal (reports are that they've "said" they amenable to it) and Israel accepting a ceasefire deal (Netanyahu has not "said" that he's amenable to it; Blinken says it's the position of the Israeli government. They then react to some of the crime data coming from an FBI report, showing plummeting rates of violent crime, before getting into the bombshell undercover reporting by extraordinaire Lauren Windsor, who went undercover at a Supreme Court Historical Society event, speaking with Chief Justice Roberts (relatively normal), Justice Alito (more unhinged), and Justice Alito's, wife Martha Ann (the most insane conversation you'll ever hear). And in the Fun Half, the MR Crew discuss JD Vance's coyness around his position in the Trump veepstakes, despite being asked for documents and...whether he's committed any crimes or things of that nature (and that would be disqualifying, somehow)? They then react to Georgia congressional primary candidate and Jan-6th related convict Chuck Hand being asked a simple question about agricultural policy at a debate before introducing himself, completely ignoring the question, and walking off the stage. They then check in on Tim Pool waging the war on Christmas in...June, Steven Crowder and Nigel Farage having an idiot contest, and the...interesting mentions under a tweet from the account "AFPost" regarding polling showing less U.S. Jewish voters supporting Trump in 2024 as opposed to 2020. The "AF" standing for...America First can probably give you a good idea of the tenor of the replies to this tweet. (Hint: they're insanely anti-Semitic). Plus, your calls & IM's! Tonight on The ReidOut, Joy Reid leads with Donald Trump once again making absolutely bonkers remarks on the campaign trail, Joy Reid says, and it is just the tip of the iceberg. The more dangerous rhetoric has to do with the policies he will enact if he is put back in the White House again, she explains. Meanwhile, as we await pivotal Supreme Court decisions, there is bombshell new audio out today featuring Justice Samuel Alito and his wife, upside-down flag enthusiast Martha-Ann, talking bluntly about their politics. The woman who captured that audio, activist Lauren Windsor, joins Joy on set. Listen now to this edition of The ReidOut on MSNBC.

This Day in Legal History: University of Alabama DesegregatedOn June 11, 1963, a pivotal moment in the American Civil Rights Movement unfolded at the University of Alabama. Governor George Wallace famously stood in the doorway of Foster Auditorium to block the enrollment of two African-American students, Vivian Malone and James Hood, symbolizing his commitment to segregation. This act of defiance came to an end when President John F. Kennedy federalized the Alabama National Guard, compelling Wallace to step aside under military pressure. The successful enrollment of Malone and Hood marked a significant step towards educational desegregation in the South. On the same day, President Kennedy delivered a landmark Civil Rights speech, addressing the nation and emphasizing the moral and legal necessity of ending racial discrimination. Kennedy's speech highlighted the importance of civil rights as a fundamental issue of morality, equality, and justice, urging Congress to pass comprehensive civil rights legislation. This address and the events at the University of Alabama signaled a turning point, showcasing the federal government's commitment to enforcing desegregation and protecting civil rights. The confrontation in Tuscaloosa and Kennedy's impassioned plea laid the groundwork for the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which aimed to eradicate racial discrimination across various facets of American life.United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain is currently under investigation by the union's federal corruption monitor, Neil Barofsky, for allegations of retaliating against another union officer. This investigation poses a significant threat to Fain, who has built a reputation as a reformist leader closely allied with the Biden administration. The court-appointed monitor's 36-page report details claims of increased resistance from the union, including delays in providing documents mandated by a consent decree established in 2020 to avoid a federal takeover.Fain, who narrowly won the presidency last year by pledging transparency and reform, now faces accusations that challenge his public image. The same day the report was filed, the UAW achieved a landmark contract with Ultium Cells LLC, which significantly raised wages for workers. This victory followed Fain's success in unionizing a Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, though efforts to unionize a Mercedes plant in Alabama failed. The monitor's report highlights at least two officials who allege retaliation for refusing to approve certain expenditures. One incident involves Fain reassigning duties from Vice President Rich Boyer, purportedly for “dereliction of duty,” though Boyer claims it was due to his refusal to engage in financial misconduct.Fain has denied these allegations, attributing them to his disruptive efforts to reform the union. He maintains that the UAW leadership is committed to democratic principles and serving its members, and welcomes the investigation to clear any doubts. The report also suggests that the UAW's cooperation with investigations has declined since February, complicating the monitor's efforts to address corruption. This investigation into Fain is connected to another probe involving Secretary-Treasurer Margaret Mock, who alleges that her power was curtailed in retaliation for not approving expenditures beneficial to Fain's office. The U.S. Department of Justice supports the monitor's claims, noting that the union's actions are impeding efforts to eliminate corruption within the UAW.UAW President Under Investigation by Federal Court Monitor (2)A secret recording of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, made public by liberal activist Lauren Windsor, reveals him supporting the idea of returning the country "to a place of godliness." The authenticity of the recording, shared on social media and with Rolling Stone, has not been independently verified by Reuters. Alito is heard agreeing with Windsor's statement about the necessity for believers in God to fight for the country's return to godliness. When questioned about political polarization, the voice identified as Alito's suggests that deep ideological differences make compromise difficult and predicts that one side will ultimately prevail. Windsor argues this reveals a bias, undermining judicial impartiality. James Duff, executive director of the Supreme Court Historical Society, condemned the secret recording as inconsistent with the event's spirit.Alito is also under scrutiny for flags linked to former President Trump's election fraud claims flying outside his homes. Despite Democratic calls for his recusal from related cases, Alito denied familiarity with the flags' symbolism and stated that his wife was responsible for the flag-flying.Supreme Court's Alito appears to back US return to 'godliness' in secret recording | ReutersThe 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans has decided against adopting a pioneering rule that would regulate the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) by lawyers in its proceedings. Initially proposed in November, the rule would have required lawyers to verify the accuracy of citations and legal analysis generated by AI tools like OpenAI's ChatGPT. Misrepresentation could have led to sanctions or filings being dismissed. The court's decision was influenced by public comments from the legal community, which largely opposed the rule, arguing that existing regulations already ensure the accuracy of court filings. Some other federal appeals courts have also considered similar regulations due to incidents where AI-generated briefs included fictitious citations. Despite scrapping the proposed rule, the 5th Circuit emphasized that parties and counsel are still responsible for ensuring their filings are truthful and accurate. The court made it clear that using AI will not excuse any violations of existing rules.5th Circuit scraps plans to adopt AI rule after lawyers object | ReutersIn November, Arizona voters will decide on a proposal that would grant homeowners greater property tax refunds. This proposal allows taxpayers to seek refunds for expenses incurred due to the state's inability to mitigate what is deemed a "public nuisance" caused by unhoused populations. I argue that a more compassionate approach would incentivize contributions to initiatives that assist the unhoused rather than compensating homeowners for their presence. This proposal risks fostering negative perceptions of unhoused individuals by framing homelessness as a detriment to homeowners. Traditionally, property taxes have funded public services that benefit communities, including support for vulnerable populations. State governments often use tax revenues to combat housing shortages and provide relief to economically disadvantaged groups. The proposed policy in Arizona, however, shifts this focus, potentially causing long-term harm by categorizing homelessness as a homeowner inconvenience.Arizona faces an affordable housing crisis, with a statewide shortage of 270,000 homes and a 72% rise in homelessness in Phoenix over the past six years. The proposal could drain state resources and set a precedent for taxpayers to claim refunds whenever state policies are perceived to cost them money. This shift undermines broader efforts to fund social services and could lead to selective taxpayer funding of services.A humane alternative would involve increasing property taxes in areas with high unhoused populations to fund comprehensive social services. This could include affordable housing, shelters, mental health services, and job training programs. Taxpayers could receive incentives for donations to approved nonprofits assisting the unhoused, creating a virtuous cycle where increased funding reduces homelessness and, consequently, lowers property tax bills. As Arizona voters consider this proposal, they will influence how the state addresses homelessness and the role of property taxes in supporting community welfare. They can proceed forward with either compassionate approaches that can mitigate homelessness or reinforce social divisions by using tax policy to marginalize the unhoused.Arizona Property Tax Bill Would Harm Unhoused to Help Homeowners This is a public episode. In a conversation he didn't know was being recorded, embattled Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito shared his private belief that his movement's battle with secular forces in the country was a zero-sum contest of irreconcilable values. “One side or the other is going to win,” Alito says in secretly recorded audio. Alito was speaking at a reception for the Supreme Court Historical Society last Monday evening. "I mean, there can be a way of working — a way of living together peacefully, but it's difficult, you know, because there are differences on fundamental things that really can't be compromised. It's not like you can split the difference.”Alito was responding to a question from Lauren Windsor, a progressive advocacy journalist and activist who regularly records conversations with Republicans and conservative movement leaders. Windsor is my guest on Deconstructed this week. We're publishing the secret audio in partnership with Rolling Stone.Windsor, who is making a documentary called “Gonzo for Democracy,” which will be out in the fall, reminded Alito that she had spoken with him a year earlier at the same event and wanted to ask him the same question. “What I asked you about was about the polarization in this country, about, like, how do we repair that rift?” she asked.“Asking questions of judges, these are the most discreet people in public life. There's a huge amount of secrecy around the Supreme Court decisions around justices,” Windsor tells Grim. “I'm asking the questions to try to expose true intent. And given that none of the justices will go to Congress, will make their views more publicly known, I feel that it's of intense public interest to find out whether their decisions are guided by personal religious convictions that really have no place in our public life.”Find full transcript at The Intercept. SEASON 2 EPISODE 30: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: It's BACK. Asked at his disbarment hearing in California about his December 2020 email to Boris Epshteyn referring to Mike Pence OR CHUCK GRASSLEY presiding over the January 6 Electoral College Vote count and certification, John Eastman said he couldn't answer because of attorney-client privilege. Asked WHICH client, he answered "President Trump." And so it reignites. It is the Dracula of January 6 Coup Conspiracy threads. Each time it seems like it's been discredited, something like this arises. Now it's Eastman reigniting the belief that his email, and Grassley's bizarre statements on January 5 that they didn't expect Pence to preside, and Pence's refusal to get into the Secret Service vehicle during the coup, are all connected. And Grassley once again has changed his story. I'll review the whole saga and I'll predict: if somebody breaks John Eastman, they'll get the truth. So let's break him! Might be Fani Willis. She has now replied to Jim Jordan's fishing expedition with everything this side of an indictment of Jordan. The highlights are wonderful. Then there's Peter Navarro's conviction and the reappearance of Sign Woman to torture the pint-sized fascist. Roger Stone reveals he has no idea what would happen during a nuclear war. A self-identifying Air Force vet confronts Ron DeSantis about the Dollar Store slaughter and Ron and his aide and his dubious Surgeon General overreact so much it's clear they know the mass shooting was DeSantis's fault. And we have to strip Elon Musk of his security clearance and all government contracts; a Russian propagandist goaded him into shutting off the satellite phone system he gave the Ukrainians when Ukraine needed it the most. Musk feared it would precipitate a "Mini-Pearl Harbor." Or, did he say "Minnie Pearl Harbor?" And that new CNN poll that's so dire for President Biden? Small detail. They polled 900 Republicans and only 600 non-Republicans. B-Block (25:40) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Mike Buckner, explorer, who says tomorrow he will prove the earth is flat and what we think is the horizon of a globe is actually "The Great Ice Wall." CNN Politics thinks I'm-All-Ears Tuberville doing China's bidding by hamstringing the US military is a "Dispute between Tuberville and Democrats." And disgraced Conservative Steven Crowder takes out an ad offering a laugh and based on the allegations he repeatedly exposed himself to men, I think we know what the laugh is. C-Block (31:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Ever heard one of those stories of the guy who happens to run into the automobile manufacturer early in the 20th Century? And the businessman is just merging together a bunch of small firms and he needs a name for the new big one and the stranger says "How about General Motors?" The story is true - and it's about my great grandfather.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

TRUMP IS REALLY, REALLY, SCREWED A BLOCK (1:50) SPECIAL COMMENT: A Justice Department photo shows at least five bright yellow TOP SECRET/SCI files strewn on a gaudy carpet. Some pictures are worth a thousand words - this mind-blowing one looks like it's worth 10 to 20 in a Supermax for Trump. The DOJ answer to Trump's ill-conceived "Special Master" suit is released early Wednesday morning and in it, Trump destroys his own defense that he "declassified" all the documents, as government agents swear Trump did NOT assert Executive Privilege over any of the documents he turned over in June, nor did he claim any of them had been declassified. There are countless lesser Trump self-destructions in the DOJ filing that add up to Obstruction of Justice, Concealing Classified Documents, and Falsely Sworn Documents - and all this is BEFORE WE EVEN KNOW FOR SURE WHAT'S IN THE DOCUMENTS. (7:20) And this may not even be the worst news of the day for Trump. President Biden is clearly on offense, slamming Lindsey Graham for his "riots in the streets" promise. (8:06) Graham actually makes it worse: he goes back on Fox and flatly lies, and denies he said what he said on Fox two nights earlier (10:33) Biden's willingness to call out Republicans normalizes the terms he uses like "semi-fascism" and builds momentum for others to use them on a daily basis (14:20) To paraphrase "The Manchurian Candidate": "Are they saying ARE there any fascists in the Republican Party? Of course not! They're saying HOW MANY fascists are there in the Republican Party!" (14:20) Trump meanwhile goes full QAnon, posting direct messages from the imaginary figure and all but calling for another coup to be led by people who believe prophesy tells them to participate (17:15) But overarching all of it is that one photo: glowing TOP SECRET/SCI files on a carpet like so many baseball cards. B BLOCK (19:42) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Hadley (20:57) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Gorbachev dies just before Putin finishes undoing all his work. How will your town look under 10 inches of melted glacial water? How come the dirty words on the GOP headquarters were carefully sprayed AROUND the Republican logo? (23:32) IN SPORTS: Sweden warns its players: don't go to Russia. Why are we letting Russians play in the NHL? And sports blogger Clay Travis actually compares vaccine-refuseniks Aaron Rodgers, Kyrie Irving and Novak Djokovic to Muhammad Ali's refusal to be inducted into the military: "Covid is our modern era Vietnam," says the dumbest man on the planet (29:47) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Ted Cruz, Joe Rogan, and Herschel Walker - proudly insisting "My bike is not bent" compete for the honors. C BLOCK (34:43) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: It's the birthday of the late Daniel Schorr, the last man hired by Ed Murrow at CBS News, a proud member of Richard Nixon's enemies list, and my colleague at CNN 40 years ago. The best story? The day I had to delay his interview with the CIA chief for breaking... College Football Rankings News!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Sam and Emma host New Yorker contributor Eyal Press to discuss his recent book Dirty Work: Essential Jobs and the Hidden Toll of Inequality in America, on the moral division of labor and the emotional burden of getting by for countless Americans. They start off with Everett Hughes' essay “Good People and Dirty Work” and how the unconscious mandate that faced the Germans under the Nazi regime was not only unique to that time or place, but that countless other places, the US most certainly included, have morally questionable state-sanctioned action taken beyond the public consciousness. Eyal explores how he took this concept into today's America, looking at positions such as corrections officers, slaughterhouse, and oil rig workers, as well as diving into the labor behind the US's drone program. After touching on the similarities and differences when it comes to policing, and the cultural support behind it, he, Emma, and Sam dive into the story of Harriet, a mental health worker in the Florida prison system, and the abuses of her patients that she had to see and hear under threat of retribution by the guards if she reported it, working up to the death of Darren Rainey in 2012. While nobody in power was punished, of course, Press looks towards Bill Curtis's analysis putting the fault, ultimately, on the Florida voters that elected Rick Scott and a government with a platform of expanding the prison population while cutting all funding for mental health. Next, they move to look inside both a poultry slaughterhouse and oil rigs, exploring how the distaste by society for labor that is absolutely necessary for it to function as it helps to obscure the horrifying conditions in which that labor takes place, exploring the meat processing industry's majority women of color and immigrant workforce and the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill which resulted in the deaths of 11 workers. Lastly, they go from the private to governmental sector as Eyal takes on the emotional turmoil of officers behind the US's Bipartisan drone program and pawning off of the gore and horror, disassociating it from the elite in power and the public eye. They wrap up the interview by discussing the central role American Capitalism and Imperialism play in this moral division of labor, and the ingrained nature of the exploitation of workers even onto the emotional level. Sam and Emma also touch on the incredible moment in labor organizing that we are currently in, before discussing the behind-the-scenes horrors facing school board members taking the brunt of the astroturf anti-mask movement. And in the Fun Half: Charlie Kirk gets just absolutely schooled by Ben Gleib on literally just knowing what a human is, a caller discusses VA Beach's inability to get its police under control to the point that it's affecting tourism, and Will from Cincinnati discusses the David Shor piece on popularism and the Democrats' multi decade-long commitment to not getting anything popular done. Sam hosts Paul Sabin, professor of history at Yale University and director of the Yale Environmental Humanities Program, to discuss his recent book Public Citizens: The Attack On Big Government and the Remaking of American Liberalism, on how the US went from eras defined by government action under FDR through LBJ, to Reagan and Clinton coming together across the aisle to end the “era of big government.” Professor Sabin starts us off in the Fifties and early Sixties with the government's managerial role in brokering between businesses and the labor industries, and the rise of liberals speaking out against the unaccounted power in politics; they walk through the roles of folks like Ralph Nader, Jane Jacobs, and Rachel Carson and how they turned on government planning, taking on their efficiency particularly when it comes to their relationships with sectors such as the auto industry. After a little background on Nader's libertarian, albeit, progressive, roots, and how they gave birth to all sorts of NGOs, such as the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC), which attempted to keep public interest behind the wheel of government. Next, they look into the jumpstart on the turn against government with the Nixon administration and how it was bolstered by liberal attempts to get the government to buckle down, with procedural interventions such as FOIA, unfortunately, undermining the trust in government, particularly as Nader and co. pushed back against the supposedly successful liberal regime under Carter. Lastly, Paul and Sam turn towards the Reagan and Clinton years, and they debate the role of Clinton in marking the end of big government, as he promised the end of said era, before they wrap up the interview by discussing the rhetorical failures by liberals in attempting to have the government-run “efficiently” rather than run with “good platforms.” Sam concludes the fun half with some updates on Texas' take on Roe v. Wade, alongside Greg Abbott's new and improved plan to eliminate rapists. And in the Fun Half: Sam discusses his internal issues and the problematic nature of procedural hindrances to digestion (he got food poisoning), the MR crew discusses NYC education COVID policy, as well as the fight AND flight conflict of COVID deniers. They also discuss Fox's Brian Kilmeade objections to giving a horse drug a bad name, Lauren Windsor's continued brilliance in duping Republican officials into spilling party tea, and expand both on Gov. Abbott's turn against sexual assault, and Elon Musk's response to his proclaimed support for Texan social policy. They wrap up the fun half with a conversation on how culture war dominates discourse over material benefit, particularly in the context of discussing Texan abortion law, plus, your IMs! On today's episode of The MeidasTouch Podcast. the brothers sit down with TWO incredible guests and do-it-yourself democracy warriors, Lauren Windsor & Walter Masterson. Lauren, who is also a Creator/EP of a political reporting web-show TheUndercurrent.tv, sits down with us to discuss what it's like going undercover and exposing the GQP politicians on their own turf. As you may remember, Lauren was most recently in the news for asking Matt Gaetz directly to his face if he is a pedophile, a question which seemingly went unanswered. Prior to Lauren's interview, we chat with the hilarious Walter Masterson. Masterson, who takes more of a comedic approach when behind enemy lines, talks about his own viral moment with Rep.
