Tracey's journey with the Stirling Book Company has lots of relatable lessons for anyone with a dream business percolating in the back of their mind. She talks about making the leap into entrepreneurship later in life, how small personal touches are the way to beat big competitors, and why right now might be the perfect time to start a business in Hastings County. Check out Stirling Book Company: Stirling Book Company website - stirlingbookco.ca Stirling Book Company on Instagram - instagram.com/stirlingbookco Stirling Book Company on Facebook - facebook.com/Stirlingbookco About the I Left the City Podcast If you've ever fantasized about moving to cottage country, you need to hear these stories. In every episode of I Left the City, we talk to a talented and skilled professional who moved to Hastings County, Ontario to find a wildly authentic life. If you're inspired to make the move and start a business in a place halfway between Toronto and Ottawa with affordable real estate, welcoming neighbours, and four-season natural amenities, visit investinhastings.ca for startup and relocation advice, commercial property listings, and many other helpful resources for business. I Left the City is an initiative of the Hastings County Economic Development department. It's hosted and executive produced by Michelle Samson, a former radio broadcaster and economic developer who found her calling when she founded economic development podcasting agency Storied Places Media. As someone who grew up in a small town, moved to the city, then returned, she loves being nosy about where people have lived, and why they chose to build a life and business in Hastings County.

In this episode, David and Dwight continue their “AI-Off,” a deep dive into using AI development tools to automate everyday tasks and create custom applications for HR. They explore the concept of "vibe coding" with platforms like Replit and Base44, discussing how HR professionals can leverage natural language to build powerful tools without extensive coding knowledge. They cover the iterative development process, the importance of subject matter expertise, and the practical realities of cost and security when deploying AI solutions. [0:00] Introduction Welcome, David and Dwight! Today's Topic: The AI-Off Part Two - Building AI Applications with Natural Language [8:19] The Pros and Cons of AI Development Tools How platforms like Replit and Base 44 handle the entire application stack, from the user experience to the backend data.  The power of these tools to quickly build dashboards, scorecards, and data aggregation tools that once took significant time and effort.  [17:38] How to build AI Applications with Natural Language Why subject matter expertise is crucial for guiding the AI to build a useful and accurate application.  The importance of providing context to the AI, much like a product manager creates user stories for a development team.  [24:09] The Reality of Building with AI: Costs, Security, and Deployment Understanding the costs associated with using these platforms and weighing them against the time and effort saved.  The need for human oversight and professional review, especially for security and compliance, before deploying an application externally.  [30:24] Closing Thanks for listening! Quick Quote “If you want [AI] to help you use your job better, [using tools like Replit or Base44] is potentially a really great way of being able to utilize your skills and your knowledge in this area.”

Employment Law This Week Podcast

This week, we examine how employers should address controversial employee social media activity, especially amid widespread social tension such as that seen after the murder of Charlie Kirk. Social Media and Employee Firings An employee's off-duty conduct can be grounds for termination, but disciplining employees always carries some risk. Recent online discussions surrounding the public murder of Charlie Kirk have spurred firings across the nation, leaving employers exposed to backlash for their action or inaction.  What Employers Need to Know: · “At-Will” Employment: While most employment is “at-will,” allowing termination for nearly any reason, collective bargaining agreements or individual employment contracts may limit an employer's ability to terminate based on off-duty conduct. · Employer Monitoring: Employers may monitor employee activity on company devices and networks and can act on publicly available social media posts. · Reputational Harm: Even where off-duty conduct is protected, actions that damage an employer's reputation can still be grounds for discipline. In this episode of Employment Law This Week®, Epstein Becker Green attorney Kimberly C. Carter offers guidance on addressing employee social media activity, emphasizing the importance of clear, proactive policies to set expectations and outline consequences. - Visit our site for this week's Other Highlights and links: https://www.ebglaw.com/eltw405 Download our Wage & Hour Guide for Employers app: https://www.ebglaw.com/wage-hour-guide-for-employers-app. Subscribe to #WorkforceWednesday: https://www.ebglaw.com/eltw-subscribe Visit http://www.EmploymentLawThisWeek.com This podcast is presented by Epstein Becker & Green, P.C. Host: Michal Charles aka MMC13 Guests: Alex & Julie   Early Days Podcast-group discussion In this episode of 'Early Days Podcast,' host Michal is joined by Alex and Julie to discuss the reactions from friends and family when they announce their decision to quit drinking, and how sometimes those can be more harmful than good. They delve into personal experiences, the many stigmas around addiction, and the importance and value in having support systems in recovery. This dialogue could be particularly beneficial to those who don't have a personal history with addiction, as it may shed some light on how to provide support to those who reach out for help.   About Alex: Alex started her journey towards recovery in 2023, and while the road is not always straight, and the journey not always linear,  she continually commits to sticking to it amidst an alcohol obsessed world.  A music, book, and film lover, she is thrilled to have found a network of incredible sober friends throughout her time on this journey. She welcomes any opportunity to share her own journey, listen to others, and help in any way possible. Alex was born and raised (and still resides!) in Brooklyn, New York, where she works as an HR Professional. She sings and records music with her husband in two bands: a rock band she has been a member of for over a decade, the other, a newer project with a more lo-fi sound. Music is her greatest joy and has saved her soul more times than she can count.   About Julie: Julie is in the early stages of her sobriety journey, having joined the I Am Sober community in 2022. After experiencing multiple slip-ups, she found Sobertown's Zoom meetings, which provided her with support and tools necessary to maintain sobriety. Joining the Sobertown community has made the biggest difference due to the connection and validation she received from others going through similar struggles. Julie is excited to celebrate her one-year milestone in April 2025 and is passionate about giving back to the sober community, particularly through hosting Sobertown's ladies meetings. She believes that recovery is not linear and that a slip-up is not a setback but an opportunity to learn and continue on the path of recovery. Julie hopes to break the stigma and stereotypes surrounding addiction --  "We recover out loud so others don't die in silence." Originally from Southern California, Julie relocated to Central Pennsylvania in 2024 for her career. An avid hiker, she finds peace and spiritual connection in nature. In her downtime, Julie enjoys watching and discussing thriller and horror films, indoor gardening, and spoiling her senior kitty.   About Michal: Michal is an American podcaster and sober warrior who believes every recovery journey is as unique as the individual traveling it. With over a decade of sobriety garnered through various systems, programs, and support networks, she's passionate about breaking down stereotypes and smashing through the guilt and shame that can keep those suffering with addiction in the dark. Michal is an animal lover, rescue enthusiast, and motorcycle chick who loves helping others, whether in her personal or professional life.  Contact Michal at:EarlydaysPC@gmail.com    Other Sober Resources: I Am Sober App Getting Sober ...Again Boom Rethink The Drink
