Lil Yee has established himself as one of the top rappers from San Francisco through his realistic portrayals of street life. His music is highlighted by unique melodies and raw expressions of pain and honesty. Yee's father is a well-known figure from Fillmoe, which paved the way for him to carry on his neighborhood's legacy along with his cousin Lil Pete. He came into the game as part of the Third World collective with Boo Banga, but has since forged his own path as a solo artist. As he gets farther along in his career, Yee is now focused on maturing as an artist and leaving the streets behind to give his full focus to the music.--For promo opportunities on the podcast, e-mail: info@historyofthebay.com--History of the Bay Spotify Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3ZUM4rCv6xfNbvB4r8TVWU?si=9218659b5f4b43aaOnline Store: https://dregsone.myshopify.com Follow Dregs One:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1UNuCcJlRb8ImMc5haZHXF?si=poJT0BYUS-qCfpEzAX7mlAInstagram: https://instagram.com/dregs_oneTikTok: https://tiktok.com/@dregs_oneTwitter: https://twitter.com/dregs_oneFacebook: https://facebook.com/dregsone41500:00 Intro01:35 Fillmoe07:00 Authentic street music12:23 Respect16:36 Third World20:11 Early success in music23:42 Learning how to be “a rapper”29:00 Street politics 34:09 Music business43:05 The Jacka
Willie Hen is a San Francisco rapper who is highly respected for his lyricism and authenticity, even without a solo album. Growing up in the Fillmore, he started off as a member of a group called Do Or Die before becoming affiliated with San Quinn and Messy Marv and forming their collective The Network. After a song with producer Tone Capone caught the attention of hip-hop legend Scarface, they became a group along with Young Malice called The Product. One of Willie's verses ended up becoming The Source magazine's Hip-Hop Quotable of the month. Although he continues to put out mixtapes, features, and collaborations, he also transitioned to acting with a role in the film "The Last Black Man In San Francisco."--For promo opportunities on the podcast, e-mail: info@historyofthebay.com--History of the Bay Spotify Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3ZUM4rCv6xfNbvB4r8TVWU?si=9218659b5f4b43aaOnline Store: https://dregsone.myshopify.com Follow Dregs One:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1UNuCcJlRb8ImMc5haZHXF?si=poJT0BYUS-qCfpEzAX7mlAInstagram: https://instagram.com/dregs_oneTikTok: https://tiktok.com/@dregs_oneTwitter: https://twitter.com/dregs_oneFacebook: https://facebook.com/dregsone41500:00 Intro02:40 Fillmoe history12:42 Street life17:05 FIllmoe's rap legacy23:47 Early groups28:46 The Network w/ Messy Marv & San Quinn37:43 Done Deal Ent.40:36 The Izm50:07 The Product with Scarface1:04:13 Mac Dre1:10:17 The Last Black Man in San Francisco1:14:34 Solo album?
Hugh EMC is possibly the first San Francisco rapper to distribute an official release with the 1988 single, "It's The Game." His early songs like "H-Nigga Groove" (aka "Keep A Bitch Broke") and EP "Gangsta Knowledge" with DJ X-1 inspired an entire generation of SF hip-hop. Hugh's hardcore storytelling raps were directly inspired by witnessing the Fillmoe neighborhood change during the crack era. As a teen, he co-founded a gang from his projects, the Outta Control Posse, and entered into drug dealing and pimping. Hugh transitioned into starting his own record label and distributing tapes, eventually signing with In-A-Minute Records. Along the way he linked up with San Francisco rap legend Cougnut and helped mentor aspiring artists from his neighborhood like JT The Bigga Figga. After a prison stint derailed his rap career, Hugh transitioned into college education, radio broadcasting, and youth mentoring. He continues to work with youth and makes new music with a positive message. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/historyofthebay/support

In this episode of Po Politickin, we politick with City P. My name is City P. I'm a artist, songwriter and vibe creator from Fillmoe. That's a neighborhood in San Francisco known locally for pimp culture, jazz music and dope ass rappers. I wrote my first song at age 7 and by the age of 12, I wiggled my way into being an intern (or a "Go-For") at a popular recording studio in the Bay Area called Bayview Studios. I was a fly-on-the-wall during sessions for legendary artists like Rappin' 4-Tay, RBL Posse and Suga Free, to name a few. Making hot music and having my own style has been my passion since I was a kid. From that point on, being a mogul in the music industry was my dream. https://www.instagram.com/supastarcity/
