Looking to match your Sony FX and Alpha line cameras? Perhaps you're in the market for a B-Camera and want to know how you can match your existing Sony camera to another that isn't the same model as your current camera. I own a Sony FX9 and Sony A7IV which honestly has been the closet match in terms of color and white balance matching. I've also used the FX6, FX3 and A7SIII alongside my FX9 and they're all a little different. The one constant that has helped me match all the cameras in post are the Phantom LUTs. I'm not sponsored by Joel and have purchased his Phantom LUTs dating back to the FS7. This episode isn't just talking about the LUT but the differences between the sensors to give you a better idea of what to expect when matching your cameras. This time with Vicars being a sh*t, the best way to capture audio and how and why ND filters are essential to all videographers. As well as this we talk about Rich selling his FS7, us talking at the Rise Event in March 2019 and Ben receives a mysterious phone call. Also a few swears in this one, but not bad swears. I had a great of a time in a cafe recording a semi-impromptu podcast with three of the four members of Brother Film. Brother Film are making waves in the industry for their high energy story led and beautifully shot corporate videos. I catch up with youngest brother Hugo, middle brother Luke and Adam who is their friend and employee. Marcus who is the eldest brother is sadly away and wasn’t able to join us. In this interview we talk about their trip with Red Bull to Azerbaijan. How they all worked together, their Instagram successes and how their business is branching out as they are producing their own music for every video they make. In episode 32: In this sound recordists special, we finally get to talk with our old friend and mini-golf champion, Richard Eades. The role of the location sound recordist has gone through enormous changes over recent years. With the rise of ‘shooting PD’s’ and return of ‘separate sound’, how has the job changed? Often expected to be a camera assistant or even now a DIT specialist, is this the best way to keep the diary full? We also discover the easiest way to wind-up your own sound recordist in the middle of a busy day! EVA, URSA, Venice, Amsterdam… lots to discuss from this years exciting IBC show, but which camera do we think is going to replace the FS7 as the default choice for Television production managers? As Steve returns from cycling in Turkmenistan, and the Monkey has to change his pension arrangements, Paul needs to know what settings will make his F5 look like a 1970’s 8mm home movie camera? It really is a packed episode… enjoy. Rich also FINALLY gets his FS7 fixed and he awaits his bill for it. Man this is a poor episode, Ben has been so busy of late with work that he can't think straight and him attempting to host this episode is a good example of too much too soon, and i can write this as I am Ben. We talk about colour issues, scheduling diaries, work loads, Dave Dugdale's A7sii course as well as a host of other things too. But again its a terrible one! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. This week we have a guest post from Christian Parkinson of the image Junkies site. We often talk about new developments on the show but this week we are going back in history a little. Christian talks to news shooter, Richard Atkinson - who’s been in the business since the 70’s and is still at the cutting edge of this ever evolving business. Since the interview was recorded Richard has mastered FCPX and brought himself an FS7. Christian talks with Richard about his career, the technology and his philosophy on shooting. In episode 18: Steve and Paul finally get together to pull some crackers and take a look back at 2015. Phill Lane from Top-Teks gives us a run down of his top cameras and Ged Yeates chats from Scotland to discuss his blog "Living with the FS7" and some shock news he received from the doctor! It's difficult to believe it's been a year since the original Great ExtraShot Cameraman Survey, but in this episode we launch our second survey with even better questions! It'll be really useful to track all the trends in our industry... have our rates gone up or what do we need to buy to stay competitive? So if you completed the survey last year or even a newcomer, it would be great to get as many responses as possible. It only takes a couple of minutes and we'll share all the results with you early next year. The Great ExtraShot Cameraman Survey - Why not do it now? We hope you all have a great Xmas and prosperous 2016. This is one of those catchup episodes, with Rich being away at the end of last week filming a music video we talk about his experiences filming in Iceland and how he got on with the Sony FS7, Ronin-M, a7s and the Atomos Shogun. We also chat about the Ben's decision to purchase a new camera, is it Sony, is it Panasonic, is it Canon? All that and more terribly thought out top tips. Enjoy! In episode 8 we have our freelancers Xmas party, complete with rubbish cracker jokes! Paul gets very excited over his new top light and Steve goes back to studying as he starts a Resolve 11 course. The decision whether to shoot LOG and grade later versus creating a finished look in camera is becoming an increasingly difficult choice. With this in mind we set up a camera test with the FS7, C300, F5, F55 and AS7. Paul and Steve chat through their findings which can also be viewed on Vimeo. Thanks to everyone who has listened and supported us this year. Merry Xmas Steve & Paul Available on ExtraShot.co.uk ExtraShot on facebook Our twitters: @extrashotcafe @gomediavideo @paulream
In episode 5 Steve and Paul relive their trip to Ansterdam and IBC. Paul and Sony made up over a capuccino and discussed all things 4K4F5 along with a hands on session with the star of the show, the new FS7. Steve shared a cuppa with Canon but didn't find anything new to play with although he got some hints of what may be around the corner. Arri also got into the 4k groove and announced a new Amira firmware upgrade to give owners upscaled UHD. Are hand-held stabilisers a fad or a the latest must have and will Paul be buying a Ronin very soon? Available on ExtraShot.co.uk Our Twitters: @extrashotcafe @gomediavideo @paulream
