Originally from the mountain state of West Virginia, Eades began making music at the age of 12, when out of boredom her father handed her a 1950's Gibson that had been stored away, waiting for someone to play. It wasn't long before she began writing songs, recording her first album at age 17 as part of the duo Special Guest. After a more than decade-long hiatus from music, Eades began playing music again after moving to Kansas City and began her solo career in 2015. Her music is genuine, and shares bits of her story, drawing from experiences that many find relatable. Influenced by the strong female singer-songwriters she listened to growing up, including Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and Jewel, she followed their lead and added her own tinges of twang, angst, and blues. I am a fan of her versatility and fluidity between genres and it is always a pleasure just to have a regular conversation with her on any number of given topics. Erin has played out in public somewhat sparingly since the pandemic but as you'll hear on this recent visit to the Tasty Brew Music Radio Show, Erin recently released some new music after nearly a 5-year hiatus of publishing any new work and is ramping up her in person footprint to promote the new music that is coming. It was an honor to air the radio broadcast debut of her new song “Lesser of Two Evils.” Enjoy my conversation with Erin Eades!

Today on the podcast, we explore the fascinating world of hospitality design. Joining us is the incredibly talented Samantha Eades, a commercial interior designer renowned for her exceptional work in creating captivating hotel and restaurant spaces. We learn all about combining art and functionality to create beautiful spaces, and how design can be utilised to craft immersive experiences. Samantha is the co-founder of Mitchell and Eades, an interior architecture and design company with offices in Melbourne, Brisbane and Dubai. Samantha's journey into the world of design was driven by her passion for food and travel, a perfect foundation for crafting extraordinary hotel and restaurant spaces all around the world. In our conversation, we talk about the theatrical nature of design in the hotel space, where multi-sensory spaces demand attention to detail in every aspect, from aesthetics and music, to food and service. While it's tempting as designers to prioritise style, we discuss the sensibilities associated with commercial design that should always be considered, such as durability and functionality. Samantha talks about the importance of bringing deep empathy to a client in order to bring their concept to life. We discuss the role of the designer being less about their personal style and all about creating an environment that tells a story. It was amazing to hear Samantha talk about approaching each project with a sense of humility - even as a maestro in her field! One of the keys to successful design in hospitality is crafting a compelling narrative for the space. Samantha explains how she often starts by delving into the historical, physical and social aspects of the location to help inform the space's story. While it may be easier to develop a narrative for heritage buildings, new builds require a more creative exploration. We talk about the change in the hotel and restaurant spaces, where we see them evolve from being just functional spaces to encompassing a complete experience. Samantha shares her personal quest to create immersive, holistic experiences in hotel spaces and talks about creating a flow between the different offerings: from where guests sleep, to where they eat, to where they play. For Samantha, designing spaces that create wonderful memories for people is the ultimate pleasure. Her insights on blending style with functionality and the power of empathy in design bring a new and fascinating perspective on commercial interior design. For those in our DevelopHers Inner Circle, this conversation is extended and we find out all about Samantha's joint ventures, partnerships and more. So tune in and enjoy some wonderful insights on creating not only beautiful commercial spaces, but meaningful, holistic experiences for humans. The Everyday Explorer comes in all shapes, sizes, ages and background. JW Eades is one of those characters. Who would have thought that a boy from rural North Carolina would end up hiking Mount Kilimanjaro or become an expert skiier traversing some of the most extreme slopes in the United States? JW certainly did not. So how does a country boy turn himself in to an international man of mystery? By paying attention and saying an immediate Yes without fear to adventures as they presented themselves throughout his life. At 80 years old, JW can now look back and philosophize on how and why he built these exploits in to his life experience. This conversation barely touches the tip of the iceberg with all of the things he has accomplished, but I especially loved his take aways about what he learned by touching different parts of the globe. Sit back and enjoy a conversation with The Most Interesting Man in the World.

Caddo Bend and Eye of the Storm are the two books in the series at this time. His tip: If you really want to lower your LDL levels for a blood test, two to three days before the test, eat a huge fat load because your liver won't have to make LDL. Megan Ramos: Only do 13 hour fasts for those three days. People make a mistake by going low fat after a scary high cholesterol test. “Statins are worthless drugs,” both Dr. Eades said. “Statins brought about no change in all-cause mortality. Except in men who are under 65 and had a cardiac event already.” Book they recommend: The Clot Thickens: The Enduring Mystery of Heart Disease by Malcolm Kendrick EPISODE SPONSOR: https://www.akelscarpetone.com/ EPISODE SPONSOR: https://www.jesschicken.com/ EPISODE SPONSOR: https://compoundingatcornerstone.com/ Use code LISA for 20% off all supplements and hormone tests LISA'S LINKS: Website: lisafischersaid.com For more information on group intermittent fasting coaching with Lisa, email fasting@lisafischersaid.com For more information on one-on-one or group health coaching with Lisa, email healthcoaching@lisafischersaid.com Podcast produced by clantoncreative.com
I can't wait for you to meet my dear friend Michelle Eades on today's Sunday Funday. Michelle is a past-lives intuitive. She raised her family in Australia where she's from, and last year, when the children were grown and flown, she and her husband sold the family home and spent the year living in Air B and Bs exploring Southeast Australia. Most recently, they've relocated to Europe, starting in Italy for more adventures. Talk about downsizing! She's insightful, thoughtful and you'll love her take on happiness. Transcript Katie: Welcome to Everyday Happiness where we create lasting happiness, in about 2 minutes a day, through my signature method of Intentional Margins® (creating harmony between your to-dos and your priorities), happiness science, and musings about life. I'm your host Katie Jefcoat and today we have a very, very special guest. Another Sunday Funday this time with Michelle Eades. Welcome, Michelle. Michelle: Hi, Katie. Thank you. It's great to be here. Katie: Well, I am super excited that you are here and I am dying to know, what is your definition of happiness? Michelle: Such a great question. And I've been thinking about this quite a lot, because I'm not really sure if I can define it. But I've worked it out that for me, happiness is a feeling in the body. And it's all the things that take place in my life that made me smile. Katie: I love that so much. So then my next question has to be what makes you happy? What are some examples of how you find happiness in your every day? Michelle: Thank you. I am quite intrigued by the things that do make me smile. So one of the things that I really was surprised about was when I go clothes shopping, and I put on the exact right piece of clothing. It feels like my whole body lights up and it brings a smile to my face. Things that are beautiful textures always bring me away. Not even necessarily just beautiful textures, but I touch things or taste things and I go, "Oh, that feels so good, or that tastes so good." And I noticed again, as I'm talking to you, my whole body jumps up and it's like all of my senses switch on. So it's texture. I think that's going to be my go to thing as I noticed. Visually beautiful things make me smile, but it's beautiful sounds, beautiful things to touch and beautiful foods when the tastes and things that you put in your mouth. They all make me so happy. Katie: I love that so much. That is such a great tip. And I can't wait for our listeners to hear this as well and go out and really think about how these textures are affecting you in your everyday life. So until next time, remember, kindness is contagious. Go out there, spread some kindness into the world and we'll see you tomorrow.
