1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; for he would not walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him. 2 Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand.Erat autem in proximo dies festus Judaeorum, Scenopegia. 3 And his brethren said to him: Pass from hence, and go into Judea; that thy disciples also may see thy works which thou dost. 4 For there is no man that doth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, manifest thyself to the world. 5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.Neque enim fratres ejus credebant in eum. 6 Then Jesus said to them: My time is not yet come; but your time is always ready.Dicit ergo eis Jesus : Tempus meum nondum advenit : tempus autem vestrum semper est paratum. 7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth: because I give testimony of it, that the works thereof are evil. 8 Go you up to this festival day, but I go not up to this festival day: because my time is not accomplished. 9 When he had said these things, he himself stayed in Galilee.Haec cum dixisset, ipse mansit in Galilaea. 10 But after his brethren were gone up, then he also went up to the feast, not openly, but, as it were, in secret. 11 The Jews therefore sought him on the festival day, and said: Where is he?Judaei ergo quaerebant eum in die festo, et dicebant : Ubi est ille? 12 And there was much murmuring among the multitude concerning him. For some said: He is a good man. And others said: No, but he seduceth the people.Et murmur multum erat in turba de eo. Quidam enim dicebant : Quia bonus est. Alii autem dicebant : Non, sed seducit turbas. 13 Yet no man spoke openly of him, for fear of the Jews.Nemo tamen palam loquebatur de illo propter metum Judaeorum.
32 The Pharisees heard the people murmuring these things concerning him: and the rulers and Pharisees sent ministers to apprehend him. 33 Jesus therefore said to them: Yet a little while I am with you: and then I go to him that sent me.Dixit ergo eis Jesus : Adhuc modicum tempus vobiscum sum : et vado ad eum qui me misit. 34 You shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither you cannot come. 35 The Jews therefore said among themselves: Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? 36 What is this saying that he hath said: You shall seek me, and shall not find me; and where I am, you cannot come?quis est hic sermo, quem dixit : Quaeretis me, et non invenietis : et ubi sum ego, vos non potestis venire? 37 And on the last, and great day of the festivity, Jesus stood and cried, saying: If any man thirst, let him come to me, and drink. 38 He that believeth in me, as the scripture saith, Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.Qui credit in me, sicut dicit Scriptura, flumina de ventre ejus fluent aquae vivae. 39 Now this he said of the Spirit which they should receive, who believed in him: for as yet the Spirit was not given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Skepticism and Unbelief - John 7:1-13, Rev. Eugene Kim by CGS Media
Welcome back to Catholic Girl on the Radio, today we're diving deep into the Gospel of John, chapter 7, verses 40–53. This powerful passage captures the growing tension surrounding Jesus as the crowds wrestle with His identity. Is He the Prophet? The Christ? Can anything good come from Galilee?Through the lens of the Early Church Fathers, we explore how pride, assumption, and superficial judgment can blind us from recognizing the Messiah in our midst. With raw honesty, prayer, and personal reflection, we ask the Holy Spirit to open our hearts and reveal where we, too, might be missing the truth of Christ. In this episode, we feature the timeless wisdom of:✨ St. John Chrysostom – on how the crowd's confusion mirrored our own tendencies to resist truth when it's inconvenient.✨ St. Cyril of Alexandria – unpacking how misinterpretations of prophecy clouded the people's understanding of Jesus' true origins.✨ St. Augustine – reflecting on mercy, judgment, and that unforgettable encounter between Jesus and the woman caught in adultery.Grab your Bible, bring your heart, and let's ask together: are we truly seeking the Messiah, or are we still clinging to our own expectations?Follow Rita on Instagram @thewordwithrita and join the conversation.
Ps Mike explores the passage on the woman caught in adultery and Jesus's response. He explores the validity of the passage and how it is the perfect example of Christ's character. On our best day we need Christ just as much as we need him on our worst day.
Some in the crowd who heard these words of Jesus said,"This is truly the Prophet."Others said, "This is the Christ."But others said, "The Christ will not come from Galilee, will he?Does not Scripture say that the Christ will be of David's familyand come from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?"So a division occurred in the crowd because of him. Some of them even wanted to arrest him,but no one laid hands on him.So the guards went to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, "Why did you not bring him?"The guards answered, "Never before has anyone spoken like this man."So the Pharisees answered them, "Have you also been deceived?Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him?But this crowd, which does not know the law, is accursed."Nicodemus, one of their members who had come to him earlier, said to them,"Does our law condemn a man before it first hears himand finds out what he is doing?"They answered and said to him,"You are not from Galilee also, are you?Look and see that no prophet arises from Galilee."Then each went to his own house.
Jesus moved about within Galilee;he did not wish to travel in Judea, because the Jews were trying to kill him.But the Jewish feast of Tabernacles was near. But when his brothers had gone up to the feast,he himself also went up, not openly but as it were in secret. Some of the inhabitants of Jerusalem said,"Is he not the one they are trying to kill? And look, he is speaking openly and they say nothing to him.Could the authorities have realized that he is the Christ? But we know where he is from. When the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from."So Jesus cried out in the temple area as he was teaching and said,"You know me and also know where I am from.Yet I did not come on my own,but the one who sent me, whom you do not know, is true.I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me."So they tried to arrest him,but no one laid a hand upon him, because his hour had not yet come.
Friday of the Fourth Week of LentJohn 7:1-2, 10, 25-30Some of the inhabitants of Jerusalem said,"Is he not the one they are trying to kill? And look, he is speaking openly and they say nothing to him.Could the authorities have realized that he is the Christ? But we know where he is from. When the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from."

SUMMARY “After the departure of some “disciples” of Jesus (not the “Twelve”) because of the offensive nature of Jesus's message (6:60), the Gospel continues to show the kind of responses the message and ministry of Jesus yields. Since the beginning of the Gospel, the narrative has been depicting the dramatic interaction between light and darkness, God and the world (1:5). In this section of Scripture, conflict is not far away but right at home, with the very people with whom Jesus should have found the most connection and support—his own family.” - Edward W. Klink KEY TAKEAWAYS Main Idea: Jesus' faithful obedience to the Father is seen as He prioritizes God's mission and agenda over man's. Jesus embraces His true identity (1–5) He rejects the idea of being a religious celebrity He does not want superficial faith, but faith in Him Jesus prioritizes His Father's will, not ours (6–13) He fulfills the Father's divine appointments He came to reveal truth and shine the light on the cynicism and fear of men
14 Now about the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. 15 And the Jews wondered, saying: How doth this man know letters, having never learned? 16 Jesus answered them, and said: My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.Respondit eis Jesus, et dixit : Mea doctrina non est mea, sed ejus qui misit me. 17 If any man do the will of him; he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.Si quis voluerit voluntatem ejus facere, cognoscet de doctrina, utrum ex Deo sit, an ego a meipso loquar. 18 He that speaketh of himself, seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh the glory of him that sent him, he is true, and there is no injustice in him. 19 Did Moses not give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? 20 Why seek you to kill me? The multitude answered, and said: Thou hast a devil; who seeketh to kill thee?Quid me quaeritis interficere? Respondit turba, et dixit : Daemonium habes : quis te quaeret interficere? 21 Jesus answered, and said to them: One work I have done; and you all wonder:Respondit Jesus et dixit eis : Unum opus feci, et omnes miramini : 22 Therefore, Moses gave you circumcision (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and on the sabbath day you circumcise a man.propterea Moyses dedit vobis circumcisionem ( non quia ex Moyse est, sed ex patribus), et in sabbato circumciditis hominem. 23 If a man receive circumcision on the sabbath day, that the law of Moses may not be broken; are you angry at me because I have healed the whole man on the sabbath day? 24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge just judgment.Nolite judicare secundum faciem, sed justum judicium judicate. 25 Some therefore of Jerusalem said: Is not this he whom they seek to kill? 26 And behold, he speaketh openly, and they say nothing to him. Have the rulers known for a truth, that this is the Christ?et ecce palam loquitur, et nihil ei dicunt. Numquid vere cognoverunt principes quia hic est Christus? 27 But we know this man, whence he is: but when the Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.Sed hunc scimus unde sit : Christus autem cum venerit, nemo scit unde sit. 28 Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching, and saying: You both know me, and you know whence I am: and I am not come of myself; but he that sent me, is true, whom you know not.Clamabat ergo Jesus in templo docens, et dicens : Et me scitis, et unde sim scitis : et a meipso non veni, sed est verus qui misit me, quem vos nescitis. 29 I know him, because I am from him, and he hath sent me.Ego scio eum : quia ab ipso sum, et ipse me misit. 30 They sought therefore to apprehend him: and no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.Quaerebant ergo eum apprehendere : et nemo misit in illum manus, quia nondum venit hora ejus. 31 But of the people many believed in him, and said: When the Christ cometh, shall he do more miracles, than these which this man doth?

Wherever Jesus is considered, questions are raised. Jesus' gravitas and goodness, his miracles and signs, his astounding teaching, and his radical claims come into conflict with the world and its ways. Whether 2000 years ago or today, all must decide what to do with his invitation: “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.”

Pastor Lloyd Pulley is in the midst of an intriguing study of John's Gospel right now, and today, we'll give our attention to chapter seven, verses forty through fifty-three, where a division occurs over the question, “Who is Jesus?” Still today division breaks out over that very question! But the answer, the truth about Jesus, remains the same.
