Send us a text  Today's Scripture deals with the time in the upper room where Jesus and the disciples are having the last supper. Jesus is giving final instructions to them before He leaves earth so they can deal with all that life will throw at them.  Peter does not understand why he cannot go with Jesus; he has gone with Him everywhere for 3 years and does not want Jesus to leave him and the disciples. Peter goes so far as to say he will die for Jesus.  Jesus then tells Peter that he will deny Him three times before the rooster crows.  He then begins to tell them it is going to be alright and they need not be troubled.  He tells them to trust in Him and believe in Him as they already do in God the Father, because He is God and is equal with the Father. Jesus knows they are in a really bad place and He wants to assure them that it will be okay and that He is going to prepare a place for them so they can be with Him forever.36 Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, where are You going?" Jesus answered him, "Where I am going you cannot follow Me now, but you shall follow Me afterward."I think Peter was so shocked by our Lord's words in verse 33 that he just couldn't get past them. Peter “locked in” on what Jesus had said about going away. He wanted to know where Jesus was going and why he could not go with Him. He had followed Him all this way, all the way to Jerusalem. There was no turning back for him. He was committed to follow Jesus. And now Jesus is talking about going somewhere where he cannot follow? No way! Not for Peter. Jesus answers Peter's question indirectly, but even this oblique reply should have given Peter some comfort. Jesus was going somewhere where Peter could not follow Him now, but he will, Jesus said, “follow later.” That is not good enough for Peter. The word “now” is foremost in Peter's mind. He does not want to wait. He wants to follow Jesus now, wherever that might be. Peter does not seem to have a clue that Jesus is talking about going to the Father in heaven. He seems fixed on the idea that Jesus is going to change His place of residence on earth. Peter seems to be reasoning something like this: “Jesus says He's going somewhere, and I can't follow. He won't say where, and He won't say why. It must be the danger. He doesn't want me coming along because it's too dangerous. He doesn't think I can take it. Well, I'll let Him know that I can handle anything anyone dishes out …” 37 Peter said to Him, "Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will lay down my life for Your sake." 38 Jesus answered him, "Will you lay down your life for My sake? Most assuredly, I say to you, the rooster shall not crow till you have denied Me three times. (NKJV)In his excellent commentary on the Gospel of John, William Hendriksen points out some very informative facts about Peter's words here and in the Synoptic Gospels. Let me cite them:In connection with this boast a few additional facts must be noted:a. Peter spoke these words both before and after Christ's prediction which is recorded in 13:38, as is clear from Matt. 26:33-35; Mark 14:29-31. Evidently, at the time, the words of Jesus, telling Peter that in spite of his boasting he would do the very thing which he promised so emphatically not to do, failed to register. Peter was too sure of himself.b. He used very emphatic language. Note the double negative in Matt. 26:35, so that the boast may be rendered: ‘I will certainly not deny thee.' And compare: ‘I will never be ensnared.'c. He spoke with great vehemence (Mark 14:31), evidently not at all pleased with the fact that Jesus had a different opinion.d. The passage here in John indicates that Peter's boas

"God will never give you more than you can handle." If that is true, God must really believe in your abilities to handle a difficult situation! But what happens when you fail to handle it? Is God disappointed in you? It seems like a comforting Bible passage, right? Actually, it is not found in the Bible, and it is not comforting at all! It does try to mimic I Corinthians 10:13, but that passage is speaking about temptation--something we all experience-- and it is actually comforting because it urges us not to have faith in ourselves when temptations come, but to have faith in God, because even though temptations may be great, God's mercy and faithfulness are greater.Support the Show.~ Changing lives with Jesus! The Gospel of John is particularly dedicated to encouraging belief in Jesus, not just as an acceptance of truth but as a dependence on Him for the forgiveness of sins and eternal life.Key Themes and Insights1. Jesus and Belief (John 2:23-25)2. Genuine Faith vs. Superficial Faith. Complimentary or not?3. Encounter with Nicodemus (John 3:1-21)4. Spiritual Rebirth Explained5. Jesus' Purpose and Mission (John 3:13-21)6. Light vs. Darkness (John 3:19-21)7. Call to Live in the Light8. Nicodemus' Transformation9. Belief vs. Friendship with Jesus10. Jesus' Discernment11. Challenge to BelieversSummaryTo enter the Kingdom of God, one must be born again through faith in Jesus Christ, achieved by believing in His sacrifice on the cross, which grants eternal life. True discipleship involves more than belief; it requires living in the light, obeying Jesus, and openly declaring our faith. Nicodemus' journey from a secret seeker to a public supporter of Jesus exemplifies this transformative process. Jesus calls us not only to believe but to live out our faith boldly, becoming His friends through our obedience and trustworthiness.Support the Show.Jeremy McCandless is creating podcasts and devotional resources | PatreonHelp us continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com

Here are a few reasons why our hope is restored: 1) We have been ADOPTED into God's family.2) We are fully PERSUADED that God loves us.3) We are certain that we are in a UNION with Christ.4) God has an OBLIGATION to keep His eternal promises.5) God PROTECTS us, our future, and our dreams.6) God BELIEVES in you!

Kids Ministry and Leadership Podcast

In this months episode Andy will talk all about how best parents can make the most of Spiritual guiding there kids and how we as leaders can guide the parents to do so.Check us out!WebsiteInstagramShow Notes:In Matthew 28, Jesus calls us to follow him and make disciples of all nations. We are to teach others to follow him well. This includes children and young people. The Great Commission has no age limitations!Spiritual formation, as stated in Romans 12:2, is the process of becoming more like Jesus in our thoughts, words, and actions. It is about being transformed by the Holy Spirit and becoming more like Christ in our character and behaviour. As the spiritual writer and teacher Henri Nouwen once said, "Spiritual formation is the process of being formed in the image of Christ for the sake of others."OneHope, a global Scripture engagement ministry, recently completed a worldwide study of teens calledGlobal Youth CultureIn the study, 43% of teens globally identified as Christian. However, far fewer could be called Committed Christians. To be a Committed Christian, you had to have six traits: four foundational beliefs and two spiritual disciplines. It was actually pretty basic, let's take a look:To be a committed Christian, teens had to:●  Believe God exists and they can have a personal relationship with him●  Believe Jesus is the Son of God●  Believe forgiveness of sins is possible through Jesus Christ●  Believe the Bible is the Word of God●  Pray at least weekly●  Read the Bible at least weeklyThe number of Committed Christians in the study was just 7%! 43% Christian - 7% committed. In Australia it drops from 32% down to 3%Children need to know what the Bible teaches so they can understand its more complex concepts as they grow older.Research that OneHope did in partnership with Barna showed that the majority of parents choose their church because of the children's program. This research happened in the US, but the concept holds true in other places. Making children a priority and teaching them well matters a lot to families. It draws them into the faith community where they can all be discipled and encouraged.Help them understand that they can talk to God through prayer any time. They can read the Bible and worship any time. Children don't have as many barriers and doubts as adults do. They are ready to believe that God is real and wants to be involved in their lives. We should encourage this faith and trust. Finally, we are going to look at a very important point–the role of family. The survey of parents in the US. It showed that 80% of Christian parents agree they are primarily responsible for the faith development of their child. However, only 25% say they are in a good place with their faith related interactions. That's a big drop!As 1 Corinthians 11:1 says, "Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ." Our children will learn more from observing our actions than from our words. We can show them daily the importance of putting our beliefs into practice. This can include things like regular family devotions, praying together, and having open discussions about faith. There are countless opportunities to have spiritual conversations and teaching moments. As a dad of three, I can attest to this!Deuteronomy 6:4-9 tells us that parents have a responsibility to teach their children about God and His commandments so that they may follow Him all the days of their life. Proverbs 22:6 echoes this: "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it."Let's help children start this journey so they can follow Jesus and look more like him every day.

The idea that God's love is freely given to all people has become a radical one. Can we embrace God's love in our lives and affirm it in other people?

In Moses' parting song to the Jewish people he mentions Faith (emuna) in two different ways, both of which don't refer to man's faith in God. Leadership legend Sam Chand still remembers when Shawn told him, “When I hand off this church I want to do what you're doing.” In fact, Sam remembers the restaurant where the exchange happened… And that's one of the things that makes leaders like Sam Chand great— they see big vision but they drill it down by paying attention to the one person sitting in front of them. In this episode Sam talks about pastors. Right now, shepherds are tired, he says. “They're frazzled. Fatigued.” Furthermore, this has nothing to do with their love for Jesus, but the season they've just endured. (Sometimes, we need to realize that— the environment we're in actually affects us in ways disproportional to the time involved.) Pastors had to make fast decisions throughout the pandemic, and— as Sam says, “Regardless of the decision you made, you'll be wrong with 50% of the people.” The “no-win” scenario many pastors faced was much like quicksand… “The more you struggle to get out, the more you get sucked in…” This leads us to four observations— #1 = Pastors (and their teams) face disengagement and disillusionment: * 70% of their staff members disengaged during the past 18 months (and are not hiding it), according to Gallup. * 30% are still deciding what to do next In other words, EVERYONE seems to be in a state of limbo. #2 = Staff conflict has increased. A lot of this has to do with the changes people have endured, and a lot has to do with the fatigue + frazzle we mentioned earlier. In a real sense, there's no way to have endured the past 18 months and NOT have changed. And that always leads to relational tensions which must be addressed. #3 = “Help Wanted.” You see the signs everywhere— in shopping malls, at restaurants, at coffee shops, at movie theaters… Even in volunteer (and staff) positions in churches, we see the signs. Many people returned to church, but they didn't return to their previous ministry posts. Ushers. Greeters. Kids' workers. Parking lot attendants… The needs have actually increased— not decreased. We're doing far more with much less. #4 = The professional to personal pivot… Sam notes that many leaders who used look only at organizational metrics (i.e., “the numbers” of nickels and noses) are now asking questions about themselves— about their health, their marriage, and the things they may have previously neglected. “Leaders can become so driven that they overlook these important personal issues,” he says. Notably, this is a POSITIVE pivot— leaders must become more self-aware. This includes asking tough questions— like “What brings us LIFE?” Is it the ministry? Or external feedback? Are we doing, as Jeremiah warned, drinking soul-water from empty cisterns, from things that can't satisfy (Jeremiah 2:13)? The reality is that the externals— the “things” we're often tempted to feed to our soul for meaning— won't be there on our deathbeds. No one, in their final days, wishes they spent more time on stage, more time on a plane, or more time in a hotel… It's important to remember, Sam says, “If you die on a Saturday, they will hold churches on the next day…” Shawn adds, “Prioritize people who will come see you in the cemetery.” In reality, most pastors don't. They tend to push those people out to focus on the ones who won't….   During this season, Sam focuses on two things— #1 = Creating content (like the new magazine and podcast he just released— links below) #2 = Influencing influencers (through venues like speaking on this podcast and connecting with leaders like you).   In closing, he reminds us of four truths— #1 = You are not alone. You might feel that way, but you're one of many (1 Kings 19:18). #2 = There is nothing wrong with you. You've just endured (and are on the tail end) of a strange season, one in which many people feel exactly like you do. #3 = God knows the times and seasons (Acts 17:26). He entrusted you with this epoch (Esther 4:14). He did so, because He has great confidence in you… #4 = You're probably thinking in new ways (i.e., the professional to personal pivot), and even pondering things about yourself. Don't run from those ideas just because you've endured a difficult time period. Trust the Holy Spirit and competent counsel to lead you.       ++++++++++++ Links for the show Sam Chand's website: https://www.samchand.com/  Avail Magazine = https://www.theartofleadership.com  Avail Podcast = https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/avail-podcast/id1521323044  https://twitter.com/samchand  https://www.instagram.com/samchandleadership    Courage to Lead resources: Help with processes = www.GearsOfGrowth.com  Staff / Teams course = www.TeamsCrashCourse.com  Schedule a free strategy session = www.CourageToLead.com/strategy
