Hello, my friend. Thanks for joining me today. This week's episode touches on a heavy topic, but it's one I think about more often as I get older: death. What comes next. Life after this life. I know it can feel uncomfortable, even scary. But I also know the promise of Jesus. “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26).

Hello, friend. I hope you're doing well today. Father's Day is coming up, making this week's episode especially timely. We're looking at a couple of stories in the Bible when scared, desperate fathers felt out of options. And what God said to them, he says to you: Trust your children to me.
Hello, my friend. You've probably heard the phrase, “The only constant in life is change.” Chances are, you're facing some changes right now. If you're struggling with the unknown or worried about what's ahead of you, may the promise of Psalm 23 remind you that whatever you face, you are never, ever alone. “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” (Psalm 23:6)

Join the Challenge and share with a friend! Our second Summer Faith Challenge is to use words that are kind, or to ask forgiveness and repair when they aren't. I could probably use this challenge every week of the year, but I want to focus specifically on encouraging words with a kind tone this week. My mom had a verse from Eph 4:29 she would quote tous likely every day “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building othersup according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”Our challenge this week is to print that verse (I'll providea printable verse card for you in the show notes) and pin it somewhere where we will see it. Challenge your Summer Challenge Besties to use kind words this week and ask for forgiveness when your words or tone move away from that. The more we are with someone the easier it is to harm them with our words, and when we travel with people and have them with us 24/7 in cramped quarters, it becomes harder to choose to speak words of kindness over them every day. Jesus knowsthat. He knows our weakness, but promised to send his Holy Spirit to empower us, and to hear our prayers when we ask him for strength or forgiveness. I think this conversation with Abbey will remind us that while we can challenge ourselves to speak kindly, that often comes with the need to learn to ask for forgiveness and also remember that Christ loves us and is our righteousness even when we fail.
Hello, my friend. Thanks for joining me today. You're likely familiar with the story of the first sin. The moment in the Garden of Eden when Eve defied God's instruction to not eat the fruit from one specific tree. But have you ever considered what was at war in Eve's mind and heart? Maybe she wasn't simply prideful, or disobedient, but perhaps she was first afraid?

Hi, friend. I hope you're doing well today. We're in the midst of a series here on the podcast looking at occasions Jesus instructed us to not be anxious or afraid. Today we're going to Matthew chapters 24 and 25, to the final week of Jesus' life. He knows what awaits him, but his admonition to his disciples remains the same: Don't be afraid.

Hello, my friend. Thanks for joining me on the podcast today. There are few guarantees in life, but there is at least one thing that's true for us all – life comes with storms. And where you turn your eyes when trouble comes makes all the difference.
Hi, friend. Thank you for joining me for another Encouraging Word. Today's episode features a story found in Mark Chapter 2. Maybe you know it – it's about a man who is unable to walk and goes to great lengths to be in the same room with Jesus. He wants to be healed. And he is, but that's not really the point of the story.

Hello, friend. I hope you're doing well today. We're beginning a new series of episodes this week, tackling the topic of fear. Fear comes up a lot in the teachings of Jesus. In fact, the most common command issued by Jesus is some version of “Do not fear.” Easier said than done, right? But with God's help, it's possible, my friend. You can fear less tomorrow than you do today.

Hello, my friend. We make mistakes, don't we? We make stupid decisions, some of use more than others. We sin. And God, in his kindness, has given us a tool to deal with it. To resolve the regret or shame left behind by those bad decisions. He has given us confession.

Hello, friend. Thank you for joining me this week. If you've missed some episodes or are just tuning in for the first time, this is a great place to start. We're talking about what happens when grace happens, something I didn't fully understand until I was years into ministry. I pray you understand it today.

Hi, friend. Welcome to the Encouraging Word Podcast. This week's episode brings us to a story you've probably heard; you may even hear it this Holy Week. In John chapter 13, we read about Jesus washing his followers' feet. This passage is often referred to when teaching about service or humility. But it also offers something else very important—how to respond to someone who hurts you.

Hello, friend. Thanks for joining me. In today's episode we see how God not only forgives us—every sin, even those we never know we commit—but also invites us into his family. You are more than forgiven, my friend. You are beloved.

Hello, my friend. I hope you're having a good day. Today's Encouraging Word brings us one of Jesus' most tender invitations: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” You need not wonder if you've out-sinned God's grace, friend. You can rest.

Thank you for joining me on the podcast today, friend. In this episode we're going back to the Old Testament, to the story of Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz. Whether this story is new or familiar, I pray it reminds you that God is always at work and has a plan to rescue you.
Hello, my friend. I hope you're having a good day. I know Christmas was months ago, but I hope you'll indulge my Dickensian illustration in today's episode. The tale of Ebenezer Scrooge paints just the right picture and reminds us that the abundant grace of God has the power to un-Scrooge the most stubborn hearts.
Hello, friend. Welcome back to another Encouraging Word. In Luke 23 we read the account of Jesus appearing before Pilate, of Pilate finding no evidence to charge him, and the crowd demanding the release of another prisoner in exchange for Jesus. It's a remarkable—and literal—picture of what Christ has done for us. He who was blameless took the place of he who was condemned.

Hi, friend! Thanks for joining me today on the podcast. The world invites us to work hard, achieve, and prove our worth – society kind of demands we do. The problem is, no one can tell us how much is enough. How many accomplishments or good deeds does it take to offset our blunders and bad days? We'll find the answer in Ephesians 2:8: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves; it is the gift of God.”
Hello, friend! I hope you're doing well. In today's Encouraging Word, we're taking a look at the first appearance of grace in Scripture, and you might be surprised where it shows up. But the message is unchanged: grace is not up to the one receiving it. It's up to the One giving it.
Hello, my friend! Thank you so much for joining me for another Encouraging Word. This week, we're concluding our study of Joshua and the Israelites' journey to the Promised Land. When I originally preached these messages at my church in San Antonio, Texas, we began each day with a Glory Days Declaration. I want to share it with you today and invite you to recite it with me—wherever you're listening. Glory Days Declaration These days are Glory Days. My past is past. My future is bright. God's promises are true, and His Word is sure. With God as my helper, I will be all He wants me to be, do all He wants me to do, and receive all He wants me to receive. These are Glory Days.
Hello, friend! I hope you're having a good day! We are nearing the end of our series on the book of Joshua. If there is one thing I hope you take from these episodes, it's this—God keeps His promises! In a world where so many people let us down, God will always do what He says He will do. You can trust Him!
Hello, friend! I sure hope you're doing well today! Being a Promised Land person does not guarantee you a problem-free life. In fact, it guarantees the opposite. In John 16:33, Jesus says, “In this world, you will have trouble.” Knowing that, what do you do? Follow the example of Caleb in Joshua, Chapter 14, and set your mind on a holy cause.
Hello, my friend! Welcome back to The Encouraging Word Podcast. So much of the story of Joshua and Israelites is about getting to the Promised Land. But it doesn't end there – they are told to possess the land, to move in, to find their place and fulfill their assignment. And Jesus offers those same instructions to us today.
Hi, friend. Happy New Year! If you're resolving to pray more this year — and shouldn't we all? — this episode is for you. There is a remarkable story in Joshua chapter 10. While in battle, the Hebrews needed more daylight. Joshua asks God to stop the sun from setting, and God does. Verse 14 says, “God took orders from a human voice.” How's that for a reminder that God listens to our prayers?
