If there's one guarantee in life, it's that we all will face uncertainty and struggles that challenge and grow our faith. Jonathan Isaac of the NBA's Orlando Magic learned this lesson firsthand. Despite being at the top of his game, he battled with anxiety, a season-ending injury, and media backlash for being the lone player to stand for the national anthem in 2020 during the Black Lives Matter protests. Yet, he would rise above the noise to discover another, very important truth. Miss last week's episode? Listen to it here. WATCH Stakelbeck Tonight episodes for free on TBN+ here. Jonathan Isaac isn't here to call out anyone for having strong beliefs, but when his NBA Orlando Magic teammates wanted to kneel during the national anthem, Jonathan knew he couldn't. He explains to Sadie and Christian why he literally took a stand and what the days and weeks were like after, how he was able to keep relationships on his team while playing together, and if he has any regrets. Jonathan shares about his childhood when his family moved from the Bronx to Naples, FL, and his struggles with identity — and eventually crippling anxiety — and how he's learned to manage it with God's help. On July 31, 2020, the Orlando Magic starting forward Jonathan Isaac was the lone NBA player not to kneel for the national anthem amid a league-wide demonstration in support of Black Lives Matter. Standing alone, knowing the scrutiny to come, Jonathan had a peace he at one time never could have imagined possible. In today's conversation, Jonathan joins Zach and Joshua Broome to unpack his testimony and to share some of the valuable principles you can find in his book, WHY I STAND! It's been said that Jonathan's story is a real life discovery that no matter your level of confidence today, God's strength will develop in your weakness, for courage is found in trusting that God is greater than your fears. Additionally, as God continues to use Jonathan on and off the court, Jonathan felt prompted in his spirit to create UNITUS, which is so much more than just a premium Christian apparel — as it's recognized as a global movement for positive change. Like us here at Built Different, those at UNITUS believe that Jesus offers our world a better way, and they boldly stand for their faith in Him. Their mission is to inspire and empower people to live in greater unity, freedom, strength, and purpose. We pray that today's conversation would encourage you in knowing and believing that in a world surrounded by fear, we can boldly and courageously choose to live a life of FAITH! It's been a busy week for the Magic front office. Jonathan and Luke give their thoughts on the Magic's moves, the departure of Joe Ingles, and how the Magic might use their final roster spot. Note: One aspect we forgot to mention is that we do own Markelle's bird rights, allowing the Magic to go over the cap to re-sign him. So there is a chance he could be re-signed for more than a minimum contract! In this must-listen episode of the Bulls Talk Podcast, K.C. Johnson, Kevin Anderson, and Tony Gill return with part 2 of their in-depth discussion on strategies to transform the Chicago Bulls into a championship contender. They tackle tough decisions and bold moves, including the optimal timing for trading Alex Caruso (2:58) and the necessity of dealing Zach LaVine, even if it involves including Caruso in the package (11:44). They emphasize the importance of not letting DeMar DeRozan leave in free agency without a return (19:05) and stress the critical need for the Bulls to draft immediate contributors (27:02). They also explore the potential benefits of taking a few steps back in the short term for long-term success (37:20) and debate a possible trade of Zach LaVine to the Orlando Magic for Jonathan Isaac (41:19). Additionally, they discuss the future of Patrick Williams and the importance of defining his role (45:38), and the challenges surrounding Lonzo Ball's situation (54:21).See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
This week we are thrilled to welcome two fantastic guests to The Old Man and the Three: Coach of the Year runner-up and Orlando Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley and Minnesota Timberwolves' Sixth Man of the Year Naz Reid. JJ and Tommy open the episode discussing the Wolves defense in their second round series against the Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and the Denver Nuggets. Then, Jamahl joins for an extremely insightful conversation about NBA coaching and shares what he learned about coaching stars from his time with Carmelo Anthony and Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks) and how stars see the game. He also talks about what stands out about Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs, and Jonathan Isaac. He then takes us through what if takes every day to build great culture in an organization, what goes into game preparation, how to construct a standout NBA defense, and much more. Then, Naz joins to share what his NBA journey has been like, what it's like being teammates with Anthony Edwards, and how Rudy Gobert, Jaden McDaniels, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker have taught the Wolves to love playing defense. He also shares his approach to coming off the bench and his mindset that led to his Sixth Man of the Year season. Naz, JJ, and Tommy finish off the episode by drafting beach accessories. Former NBA star, Fab Five member, and Michigan basketball coach Juwan Howard is once again in hot water over his anger issues. This time Howard has been accused of instigating an altercation with the team's strength coach. This is all on the heels of the incident last season in which Howard punched a Wisconsin assistant in the handshake line postgame, costing him and his team a five-game suspension. Whitlock has a history with Howard that dates back to 1992 in Ann Arbor. He's witnessed the change in Howard's demeanor and worldview in those three decades. Jason has diagnosed Howard with white derangement syndrome, a serious side effect of Black Lives Matter. “Since the death of George Floyd, Howard has decorated the Michigan warm-ups with BLM slogans. He's been one of the most outspoken proponents of Black Lives Matter. He's not alone. The BLM disease is rampant among black people. It's a mindset that says all black problems are rooted in the existence of white people and white authority.” Whitlock unpacks his fire-starter on the insanity that BLM, social media, and victimhood mentality have let loose on black America. In the wake of the senseless events on the campus of UNLV, the media turned to one of the nation's foremost experts on guns, crime, and the Second Amendment: LeBron James. “The fact that we haven't changed anything – it's actually been easier to be able to own a firearm. … It's stupid.” James once again dazzled those with no knowledge of guns or gun laws. Meanwhile, educated, law-abiding Americans are left to share the truths behind the atrocity. Cue Jason Whitlock. "LeBron James' job is to convince black men that the Second Amendment is why black neighborhoods are a cesspool of violent crime. It's a lie. The absence of fathers and patriarchal homes powers the violence that plagues black neighborhoods. Corporate media will never ask James about this fact. He's a useful idiot in the movement to revoke our constitutional right to arm ourselves against a government that cannot be trusted." One week after saying his Colorado football program would not act as an ATM for potential recruits, Deion Sanders now says CU donors need to ante up so his team can buy more recruits. It appears that losing eight of his last nine games and several top recruits (Winston Watkins Jr., Talan Chandler, Antwann Hill Jr., and Danny O'Neil) changed Coach Prime's recruiting philosophy. Jason explores what's really going on in Boulder, Colorado, after a “highly successful” 4-8 season, and Jason gets the perspective of a former CU football star, Matt McChesney. Later in the show, the Korean Cosell joins Jason to debate Jason's contention that Philadelphia center Jason Kelce should win the NFL MVP award, Alex Smith's diss of Tom Brady, Gregg Popovich complaining about Spurs fans booing Kawhi Leonard, and LSU basketball star Angel Reese's fall from grace.
