Saved By The Summer starts here! We're exploring four Saved By The Bell related series, starting with Good Morning, Miss Bliss starring Haley Mills and the core cast of Bayside regulars who would go on to star in the iconic Saturday morning sitcom. Join Will and Adam and they discuss the original pilot that aired on NBC in 1987, the 13 episodes series featured on The Disney Channel from 1988-1989 and finally, the NBC Saturday Morning preview show that first introduced the world to Kelly, Jessie and Slater. It's going to be a wild summer, so hop on board now, Dudes! Thanks to our monthly supporters Chad Droze Ken Spaulding Karen Flieger Tim Heasley Jeff Sheldon
This week on It Was a Thing on TV we kiss the baby while reminding everyone that Zack Morris is trash. First, with the start of NFL Season, we mark the occasion with a look at a short-lived reality/discussion show starring the two biggest diva football players of the early 2010s. Also, Mike tries taking their Twitter handle and...hilarity ensues. Next, we revisit school briefly for this episode. Before Saved by the Bell, some of its characters were in a short-lived Disney Channel show set in a middle school in Indianapolis. Good Morning, Miss Bliss was a precursor to the popular series from the 80s and 90s. One thing remained the same: Zack Morris is trash. Finally, 35 years ago, a series blended gritty stories, wartime allegories, and cutting edge special effects. If it wasn't the violence that people were against, it was the toy tie-ins. A show that was ahead of its time could not have come at a worse time. Prepare for the Metal Wars as we talk about Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future. In this Episode we use the Radio8Ball app to consult the Pop Oracle in a form of musical divination, including several original full-length songs that you are invited to interpret for yourself. We also discuss: The importance of honoring both the sacred and profane in a life that values and cultivates synchronicity How Olympia, the town Andras and I hail from has a secret Kabbalistic tree of life built into the downtown- as he describes in his book “https://accidentalinitiations.com/ (Accidental Initiations: In The Kabbalistic Tree of Olympia)” His podcast https://www.theworldiswrongpodcast.com/ (The World Is Wrong), which focuses on what is right about movies that the rest of the world has been wrong about The history and origin of Radio8Ball, how I was a Sacred Usher on the show, and what that even means His worst experience ever on stage (and how these difficulties have forged him) Cheese And so much more! About Andras Jones Andras Jones is the creator of http://www.radio8ball.com/ (Radio8Ball), a “Pop Oracle” he developed over 20 years beginning on KAOS in Olympia, Washington in 1998. Amanda: be@elevationhive.com Andras: andrasjones@radio8ball.com A note from Andras on the synchronicity of this release: This is coming out the week of my father's birthday. June 10th. In the late 80's the world was first introduced to the likes of characters such as Zack Morris, Screech Powers, Lisa Turtle, & Mr. Belding on a little show called... Good Morning Miss Bliss? Well that show only lasted one season before being canceled and retooled becoming what we would later come to know as, Saved By The Bell. In this new incarnation of the classroom based show the focus was taken off of the teaching staff and rather placed on the students. This idea clearly worked as Saved By The Bell became a phenomenon for young kids through the early 90's. So join the S1E1 guys as they answer the question, "Can you go home again?" when they review the pilot episode "Dancing to the Max". www.S1E1POD.com
For our 50th episode join the hosts as we tackle our most requested, and probably the most forbidden of the 90s. Guys, this thing is wild. If you had asked me what this was before I saw it, I would have said the guys who made Basic Instinct got back together with a lot of drugs and hired the girl from Saved By The Bell to spend 1/3 of the movie nude in a spectacle of flesh and grit/glam of Vegas. I think that is exactly what we got, but we aren't quite sure if that is what we needed. Join us as we go through it. We hit on the highs and lows and everything in between. How many podcasts have the guts to talk about Good Morning Miss Bliss and David Lynch's Dune in the same breath. We try to get to the bottom of the performances, was it insane writing, directing, acting, or all of the above. Or is there something we are missing? Is there a magic here that is just hard to see on first viewing. There's rhinestones everywhere. There are boobs even more places. There are switchblades, monkeys, and Garth Brooks. Did we mention Robert Davi is in it? We have David Bowie on the soundtrack and we wonder about how stripper poles are sanitized. Thanks for an amazing first year in podcasting. Come see us over at our sister cast MinxOnMax Going Deeper, or just watch Minx without listening, as long as you watch it. Thanks for giving us an excuse to spend all these date nights together.
This pilot has been buried in tv history and someone was kind enough to upload it on YouTube where it was forgotten again! The iconic Saved by the Bell started off as Good Morning Miss Bliss and this pilot was very different than anything we've before from this franchise..There are some notable 90s names in this pilot that are worth mentioning, those names alone made this worth a watch! This week we go back to Bayside to talk about "1-900-CRUSHED" (airdate: November 17th, 1990), the eleventh episode of the 2nd Season (3rd Season if you count the Good Morning Miss Bliss season as Season 1) of Saved By The Bell. In this episode we follow Zack as he hatches a get rich quick scheme that lands him in a chaotic situation involving Nicki Kapowski (Laura Mooney), Kelly's little sister. We also talk about Lisa as the hero of the story, Mr. Belding's top-notch principal skills, our experiences as teachers with students with entrepreneurial spirits as well as students who like to eat in class, and more.
This episode continues our tribute to Disney Legend and child star of six classic live-action Walt Disney films, Hayley Mills. Along with returning special guest Brian Crawford, Ruthie and Chris go through the remainder of Mills' Disney films - "The Moon Spinners," (1964) and "That Darn Cat." (1965) Then they discuss her career after her initial six years at Disney, including her other films, theatrical performances and television appearances including the Parent Trap made for TV sequels and the sitcom "Good Morning Miss Bliss." The episode concludes with Brian, Ruthie and Chris ranking their favorite Haley Mills Disney films, favorite songs and favorite co-stars, mixed in with many personal stories and anecdotes about their personal connections to this amazing star.Download (right click, save as) If you like what we do, consider supporting us via Patreon and receive exclusive rewards every month - https://www.patreon.com/DisneyChris Visit our store for exclusive merch! https://jcpodcast.threadless.com/
"We need Doc Brown to sort out the timelines of this show." - Jonah Anderson, world's foremost expert on "Saved by the Bell." The "Saved by the Bell" continuity is... confusing. Never mind the fact the powers-that-be want you to think "Good Morning Miss Bliss" is the first season of the show (it isn't). Things get even more confusing once the gang makes it to Bayside. How long do these school years last? When does the Malibu Sands mini-season occur? Where do Jesse Spano and Kelly Kapowski keep disappearing to during senior year? Do they even know that Tori (Leanna Creel) exists? Wait, who are you, Tori? And where did you get that leather jacket?Hey, wait, where did Tori go? Did Screech murder Tori? Man, Screech is the worst. Sitcoms like this always seem to have continuity issues, generally because of behind-the-scenes production issues and conflicts. Jonah and Tyler (with an early assist from Angela) unravel the web that is the Saved By the Bell timeline. You'll even understand how "Saved by the Bell Hawaiian Style" fits into the equation. If anybody has Dennis Haskins' personal cell phone number, we'd love to talk to him. Dennis, if you're reading this, we're not creepy. We just want you to come on the show!
"Saved by the Bell" began as another series - "Good Morning, Miss Bliss." The show focused a bit more on the teachers, including the titular Miss Bliss, played by Hayley Mills. Zack, Lisa, Mr. Belding and Screech (ugh) were around, but Slater, Kelly and Jesse weren't yet part of the gang. Our Saved by the Bell panel of experts discuss the differences between the shows and some of the reasons why "Miss Bliss" needed the boot. We also discuss whether the show should be considered "Season 1" of "Saved By the Bell," as it is presented on streaming services. The answer is NO. We get why the powers-that-be dumped Mikey and Nikki. They're fairly forgettable characters. But why couldn't they kick Screech to the curb too! Screech is the worst! One person we were happy to see make the transition between shows: Dennis Haskins! Come be on our show!

Welcome to another day at Bayside. This week we find out if Slater, after winning a big wrestling tourny, moves to Hawaii or if he gets to stay with his "friends". Join us as we discuss Slater, his health, his family, and his friendships. Is he the enemy this week? Listen along as Reuben shares his strong opinions on high school sports, Slater and other things Bayside. Nicole discusses why she understands Zack's hatred of Slater in this episode. And Iain brings up a conspiracy that Mr. Belding is the same Belding in Good Morning Miss Bliss as in SBTB. Did Slater's dad go to far threatening Zack with a grenade? In which we bid adieu to Miss Bliss the only way we can: with a rambling, slightly drunken, discussion of our few favorite and many least favorite characters, episodes, and moments from the awkward series that was Good Morning Miss Bliss. Also featuring another installment in Carolyn’s fan fic, which gets to the bottom of the whole “JFK to Bayside” move, and a special drop-in appearance from a certain British school marm. It’s time at last to say goodbye to Good Morning Miss Bliss, and while it’s really just “see you later” for some characters (Zack, Screech, Lisa & Mr. Belding), it’s “so long forever” for others (Miss Bliss, Mikey, Nikki, Mylo and, uh, what’s-her-name). So the show concludes as only it can: with dicey gender politics followed by dressing up an old man in an Abraham Lincoln costume at the end of an episode in which it’s never terribly clear what the point of it all is supposed to be. So wander off into the woods with a strange man, and when you get back, download & listen here, rate & review us on iTunes or Stitcher, follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook. Good Morning Miss Bliss is winding down as we reach the series penultimate episode, in which Zack pledges a high school (?) fraternity (??) called the Rigmas (???), while Bliss & Belding trot out that old “job swap” plotline. It’s a tale of jackets, makeup, Nothings and note cards, but most importantly, it’s almost the end. So grab a piece of pie, then download & listen here, rate & review us on iTunes or Stitcher, follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook. The show can also be found onPodBean and Google Play. We've now traversed the mountain that is Season One of Saved By the Bell, having first waded through the dung pits of Good Morning Miss Bliss. We finally get to put some faces on the spectre that is Valley High as the gang are involved in a prisoner exchange. We're taking next week off but we'll be back on the sixth of September to shove our faces into Season Two. Episode: "Save That Tiger"
JFK high is a circle of hell, ruled by the heinous Aryan devil-spawn that is Zack Morris. Some semblance of humanity in Good Morning Miss Bliss might yet be saved if our heroes Heather Hopper, Mylo and yer wan who plays Miss Bliss are kept on in the rapidly approaching Saved By The Bell. *crosses fingers* Episodes: "The Boy Who Cried Rat," "Let's Get Together"
Boy oh boy did we all adore Saved by the Bell when we were kids. Donna thought this is exactly what high school was going to be like. Chris and Carlos knew better, but actually loved the show because of how heightened and ridiculous it was. As we got older, it didn't take long to figure out that this series was objectively pretty awful and that most of these kids were terrible people. And yet - we remain incredibly fond of it. Listen in as we attempt to figure out why... Topics include: the show's origins as Good Morning Miss Bliss, the various spin-offs and TV movies that kept the Saved by the Bell brand alive for years after the original series ended, how disturbing it is that no one involved with this seemed to notice that all of these characters were dangerous sociopaths, the murky sense of morality that undermines a lot of the lessons these episodes were trying to teach us, the secret truth about Bayside's miniscule number of students, why the show is at its best when it commits to being a live-action cartoon, and much much more! iTunes / Stitcher / RSS / Facebook / Twitter / Instagram About The Show
