You may have heard reference to a story told by the 13th-century cleric, Gervase of Tilbury, about a flying ship dropping its anchor in a churchyard, and the ensuing struggle between one of its sailors and the assembled crowd. There are actually many different versions of this story dating back to the middle of the 8th century CE, and together, they tell us a great deal about Medieval cosmology, and they even shed light on the modern UFO phenomenon. For two years between 1896 and 1897, the skies of North America were invaded by a wave of airships. Some looked like UFOs as we know them today, while many more resembled futuristic dirigibles. On last week's episode you already heard of the alleged airship crash in Aurora, Texas, in 1897...BUT - did you know that there were many other alleged airship crashes in places like Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Iowa Falls, Iowa? Did a Martian crash-land in Lanark, Illinois? Was the dream of a little girl taken aboard a space craft by “little men” just a dream, or the repressed memory of an alien abduction? What was the airship that one witness described as “Noah's Ark returned to Earth”? Did an Illinois storekeeper really manage to photograph an airship, and if so, where is the photo today? And finally, were the humanoid pilots of the airships inventors from the time period, aliens in disguise, or time travellers from the future just trying to “blend in?” Find out on this week's episode of That Would Be Rad. We hope you've been enjoying your stay this summer during our “CAMP RAD STRANGENESS”. Keep coming back, bring your friends, and as always… BE RAD! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SHOW INFO

Our guest, Tui Snider, shares her tangible experiences with what could best be described as the Elementals; We also discuss the 1897 airship encounters - including the famous Aurora, Texas UFO crash and alleged alien body buried in a nearby cemetery. How can we tell the difference between fact and fiction? A caller, Daniel, shares his repeated contact experiences with aliens ranging from frightful to positive. Tui Snider is an award-winning writer, speaker, photographer, and musician specializing in offbeat sites, overlooked history, cemetery symbolism, and haunted lore. As she puts it, “I used to write fiction, but then I moved to Texas!” Tui lectures frequently at universities, libraries, conferences, and bookstores. This fall, she will speak about the Great Airship Mystery of 1897 at this year’s UFO Congress and teach a course on Understanding Cemetery Symbols at Texas Christian University. From 1896 to 1897 a wave of strange, aerial craft were seen hovering over much of the United States. In 1897 in Aurora, Texas, one of these airships made a crash landing near town and its bizarre pilot seemed to be from another planet. Your sex robot could be hacked and programmed to kill you. There are worse ways to go. "The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot." This is a real movie. We are so there. Opening day. The "devil's letter" has been decoded! Yes, the unreadable treatise by a possessed nun has now been deciphered. What does it say? Wouldn't you like to know? Don't mess with conspiracy theorist grannies. Exorcist says satan lives on the internet. Like we needed an exorcist to tell us that. Jim Carrey gets all mystical and existential and everyone loses their minds! Sometimes you need a joker to speak the truth. Did Seth Rogen try to overthrow the North Korean government? Is Donald Trump being drugged? Is he haunted? Is his family behind the Great Airship Mystery?
Gene and Chris welcome former Air Force Office of Special Investigations agent and FBI counterintelligence specialist Walter Bosley, who has engaged in a lengthy research project involving a series of strange and frightening deaths, possibly murders, that occurred in the San Bernardino Valley in 1915. Bosley's recent book, "Empire of the Wheel II: Friends From Sonora," covers such topics as "the unexpected fingerprints of a group of aviators who allegedly built secret airships in California before the Civil War and may have been responsible for the widely reported but mostly forgotten Great Airship Mystery of 1897." And what about a possible connection to Butch and Sundance?
