Here are three notable statements by Avi Loeb regarding the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS (also known as C/2023 A3). 1. It could be technological or engineeredLoeb proposes that 3I/ATLAS might not be a simple natural object, but one with artificial or engineered features. Example quotes:He writes that “this object could be technological, and possibly hostile as would be expected from the ‘Dark Forest' resolution to the Fermi Paradox.” He suggests that if it “generates its own light, then it could be much smaller than expected …” Loeb also suggests the trajectory may be “fine-tuned” or “optimized” for a visit through our Solar System rather than a random interstellar path. His position is one of possibility, not firm conclusion; he often emphasizes that the scenario is unlikely but worth considering because of its implications.2. It shows several “anomalies” compared to known comets or interstellar objectsLoeb has pointed out multiple features that he claims cannot be easily explained under typical comet/asteroid models. Some specific anomalies he highlights:Its trajectory is close to the ecliptic plane (i.e., aligns within ~5° of the planetary orbital plane) — this, he argues, makes a random entry statistically unlikely. It produced a “sunward jet” or anti-tail (i.e., an emission or structure pointing toward the Sun) which he says is atypical for known comets. It exhibits an “extreme negative polarization” signature (a polarization measurement of –2.77 % at a particular phase angle) which he says is significantly different from all known comets. He also notes compositional oddities: in his blog he mentions, for example, a large nickel:iron ratio and small water fraction in the outgassed material. In short: Loeb treats 3I/ATLAS as anomalous, and argues that such anomalies elevate interest in the artificial-origin hypothesis.3. While it may be artificial, we mustn't ignore the natural hypothesisEven though Loeb emphasizes the possibility of an artificial origin, he is careful to maintain that the most probable outcome still remains that 3I/ATLAS is a natural object. For example:In a blog post, he wrote: “As of now, 3I/ATLAS appears most likely to be a natural comet. But the remote possibility … must be considered seriously as a black-swan event with a small probability, because of its huge implications for humanity.” Similarly, in press coverage he is quoted: “By far, the most likely outcome will be that 3I/ATLAS is a completely natural interstellar object, probably a comet.” He therefore positions his artificial-origin hypothesis as speculative, but worth preparing for — especially given the stakes if such a hypothesis turned out to be true.

Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb joins Brian Keating to discuss a groundbreaking observation: the HiRISE camera on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has imaged 3I/ATLAS, a rare interstellar visitor, from the vantage point of Mars. In this episode, we explore: • What HiRISE detected and why it matters for planetary science. • How interstellar objects like ʻOumuamua and 3I/ATLAS challenge our theories. • Why Mars may become an ideal outpost for detecting future interstellar visitors. • The implications for astrobiology, planetary defense, and our search for extraterrestrial technology. ✨ Just as the 1977 “Wow! Signal” jolted radio astronomers with a one-time unexplained burst, 3I/ATLAS may be its optical cousin—an anomalous, fleeting, but potentially transformative messenger. Loeb even calculated that 3I/ATLAS's trajectory passed within about one degree of the Wow! Signal's sky position, making the connection more than metaphorical. Ignoring such rare alignments risks repeating history: anomalies slip through our fingers while orthodoxy insists nothing unusual happened. The Wow! Signal warned us of the danger of complacency; 3I/ATLAS reminds us that cosmic surprises often lurk at the margins of expectation, carrying lessons we may miss if we force every mystery into old categories. -

“Science isn't about showing off. It's about attending to unusual data, unusual evidence”, says astrophysicist Avi Loeb.“We can only learn new things from anomalies, from what doesn't line up.”Paying attention to anomalies is precisely what he does as head of the Galileo Project at Harvard, whose purpose is to search for evidence of extraterrestrial technology.Loeb is frustrated. Almost all the research money that is allocated to the search for extraterrestrial life goes to projects for picking up radio signals and scanning for molecular fingerprints of microbes on exoplanets.“It's like lonely people waiting for a phone call. Nobody might call you”, says Loeb.“And personally, I think microbes are boring. I am more interested in intelligent life. Yes, there are more microbes, but it is arguably easier to detect evidence of technology.”Loeb became famous in 2017 when he suggested that the first detected interstellar object traversing our solar system, named 1I/Oumuamua, might be artificial because of its strange behavior. His suggestion was not well received in the scientific community. He was academically attacked by many colleagues. Now, the third interstellar object ever detected, 3I/Atlas, is hurling past the planets in our home system at breakneck speed. This visitor also features very odd properties. It doesn't look like a comet. It seems to be extremely large, it doesn't have the classic cometary tail, its glow is preceding it, the composition of its coma is unique, and its trajectory is in line with the plane of the planets.“If you were to construct a spacecraft that were to visit this solar system, you would make it go in the plane of the planets”, Loeb says.Yet mainstream astronomers call it a comet, or more specifically a “black“ comet.“It's like having only seen zebras and then suddenly see an elephant and go: ‘Look, a zebra without stripes, and with a trunk'.”Loeb has developed a scale for assessing whether a space object is natural or artificial, where 0 means decidedly natural and 10 means decidedly artificial. Loeb has given 3I/Atlas a 4, the same score he gave 1I/Oumuamua.It might drop on the scale – or climb – as more data is collected. By the end of October 2025 we probably know more, because that is when the object will be at its closest to the sun.Avi Loeb has always been an outlier in the scientific community, he says. He would “trade everything” he has of modern life to go back 95 years, to the time of quantum pioneers like Bohr and Heisenberg.“Because they were open-minded and willing to replace an old worldview with something completely new.”Science is more rigid today, he feels. Paradoxically, this may have to do with the fact that there are so many more scientists today. With a large enough population, ideas tend to regress to the mean.Avi Loeb isn't afraid of airing ideas that would appear outrageous in conventional quarters. Have there been advanced civilizations on earth millions of years ago? Could our species have been genetically manipulated by interstellar visitors a long, long time ago? Loeb is open to both propositions.“We tend to think we are first. But it's fully plausible that there was a technologically advanced civilization millions of years ago that was destroyed in a major catastrophe.”The Galileo ProjectPersonal page at HarvardEssays on MediumThe Book Interstellar (2024)The Book Extraterrestrial (2022)

3I-ATLAS has ignited an online cataclysm of theories. They range from alien spaceships to the return of a messiah figure. What few stop to consider, however, beyond the necessity and rational of keeping an open mind, is how the symbolic nature of comets themselves could fulfill certain religious prophecies without much actually changing in the world. The presence of a celestial harbinger in the sky acts a portent of disease, regime changes, war, spiritual transformation, and prophetic visions, but the object is not a singular and final event. Comets come and go; they are part of the natural cosmic order of panspermia and apocalyptic destruction. And this latter point of view is how Buddhists see the Abrahamic eschatology. Viewed in this manner, the narratives built around the macrocosmic 3I-ATLAS begin to shrug. *The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. It's the perfect companion to this conversation—lessons in thinking clearly, staying curious, and pushing past conventional wisdom from my conversations with 22 Nobel Prize winners! Brian Keating sits down with Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb and renowned skeptic Michael Shermer to dissect the latest enigma sweeping through our solar system—3I/ATLAS. • What makes 3I/ATLAS extraordinary? • It's the third confirmed interstellar object to visit our solar system—after ʻOumuamua and Borisov—racing through space at hyperbolic speeds and exhibiting an orbit intriguingly aligned with our ecliptic plane • Observations by Hubble and James Webb reveal a coma dominated by carbon dioxide, with traces of water, carbon monoxide, nickel, and cyanide—an unusual chemical signature even among comets. • Avi Loeb's provocative hypothesis: He and collaborators propose that 3I/ATLAS might not be natural at all—but potentially a piece of alien technology, given its improbable trajectory, ecliptic alignment, and close approach to Mars and other planets—arguably orchestrated rather than accidental. • Michael Shermer pushes back: A constructive skeptic's view on whether the evidence truly supports Loeb's scenario, grounding the discussion with a critical evaluation of observational data versus speculative inference. Don't miss this rare convergence of cutting-edge astrophysics and disciplined skepticism—because how we interpret 3I/ATLAS could redefine our understanding of interstellar visitors. CBS EYE ON THE WORLD WITH JOHN BATCHELOR SHOW SCHEDULE  9-5 GOOD EVENING: The show begins in Las Vegas as the Strip struggles with decline. FIRST HOUR 9-915 Jeff Bliss, Las Vegas Tourism Decline and Anaheim Development Jeff Bliss reports a significant decline in Las Vegas tourism, with a 12% drop in visitors, which he attributes to the city's nickel and diming practices by major corporations like MGM and Caesar's Palace, coupled with the rise of online gambling. Despite increased gaming revenue, the broader city economy, including restaurants and hotels not part of the strip, is suffering. Vegas resorts are now offering discounts and food credits to attract visitors. Nevada's unique lack of a state lottery, forcing residents to cross state lines for games like Powerball, also highlights a peculiar disadvantage. In Anaheim, a proposed skyway/gondola system aims to connect Disneyland, hotels, and sports venues. 915-930 Brandon Weichert, Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, and Economic Impact Brandon Weichert and John Batchelor discuss artificial intelligence and quantum computing, with Weichert expressing optimism for AI's long-term economic benefits, though he finds a 7% GDP growth projection very optimistic. He believes AI will augment, not replace, human work, leading to positive productivity gains over time, especially in manufacturing and tech sectors. The conversation touches on AI's current competitiveness in generating novel research hypotheses, nearly matching humans in a Science magazine study, but humans still slightly lead in designing experiments. Weichertsees quantum computing as the next breakthrough 930-945  Professor Richard Epstein, Federal Power, National Guard Deployment, and University Funding Professor Richard Epstein discusses two cases involving the Trump administration's use of federal power. First, he analyzes Judge Charles Brier's ruling that Trump's deployment of National Guard troops for immigration enforcement in Southern California was partially illegal, citing the 1878 Posse Comitatus Act. Epstein distinguishes between protecting federal interests and overstepping into local policing, as with traffic violations or raids far from Los Angeles. He criticizes the political polarization between Trump and Governor Gavin Newsom for hindering cooperation during emergencies. Second, Epstein addresses Judge Allison Burroughs' interim decision against Trump's freezing of Harvard's research funds over anti-Semitism allegations, warning of long-term damage to US medical research. 945-1000 CONTINUED Professor Richard Epstein, Federal Power, National Guard Deployment, and University FundingProfessor Richard Epstein discusses two cases involving the Trump administration's use of federal power. SECOND HOUR 10-1015 Bradley Bowman, Chinese Military Parade and US Security Bradley Bowman discusses a recent massive Chinese military parade, noting the presence of Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong-un, with the president of Iran also in attendance. He views the parade as a demonstration of China's decades-long effort to build a military capable of defeating the US in the Pacific, highlighting the erosion of American security and increased likelihood of a Taiwan Strait conflict. Specific concerns include modernized hypersonic YJ seriesanti-ship missiles challenging US naval interception, the DF61 intercontinental ballistic missile aimed at the US, and a low-observable tailless drone for manned fighters.1015-1030 Conrad Black, Canadian Politics, Mr. Carney's Government, and Regional Challenges Conrad Black discusses the challenges facing Mr. Carney's new Canadian government, particularly the unrest in Alberta. Carney's extreme green views threaten Alberta's oil and ranching economy, leading to a significant separatist movement that could see the province join the United States if its energy exports aren't facilitated. Black notes that Carney has yet to reveal his plans to address this or the historical cultural and political challenges posed by Quebec, a wealthy province with aspirations for independence. Carney has been robust on national security, agreeing with President Trump that Canada needs increased defense spending.1030-1045 Jim McTague, Lancaster County Economy and National Job Market Jim McTague provides an optimistic view of Lancaster County's economy, contrasting with national job market slowdowns. He notes low unemployment at 3.4% and no personal reports of job losses. The county's economy is buoyed by affluent retirees, who contribute millions to local restaurants and businesses, and a booming tourism sector attracting 10 million visitors annually. McTague highlights the importance of agriculture and the Amish culture as economic backbones. However, housing prices are significantly elevated, posing a challenge for younger, lower-wage workers. Growth is concentrated in suburban townships due to a superior healthcare industry and expanding data centers and pharmaceutical companies attracting professionals.1045-1100 CONTINUED Jim McTague, Lancaster County Economy and National Job Market Jim McTague provides an optimistic view of Lancaster County's economy, contrasting with national job market slowdowns. THIRD HOUR 1100-1115 Molly Beer, Angelica Schuyler Church and the American Revolution Molly Beer discusses Angelica Schuyler Church (1755-1814), a prominent figure during the American Revolution. Born to the influential Schuyler family in Albany, Angelica was well-educated, a trait uncommon for women of her time but typical for Dutch families. She eloped with John Carter (later John Barker Church), much to her family's dismay, a decision perhaps driven by love for the cosmopolitan Englishman. Angelica was deeply involved in the revolutionary cause, supporting the French army and maintaining a strong patriotic identity even while living in London after the war. She cultivated extensive connections with key figures like George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, and Lafayette .1115-1130 CONTINUED Molly Beer, Angelica Schuyler Church and the American Revolution 1130-1145 CONTINUED Molly Beer, Angelica Schuyler Church and the American Revolution Molly Beer discusses 1145-1200 CONTINUED Molly Beer, Angelica Schuyler Church and the American Revolution Molly Beer . FOURTH HOUR 12-1215 Henry Sokolski, Plutonium, Nuclear Proliferation, and International Debate Henry Sokolski discusses the global debate surrounding plutonium, a highly poisonous substance used in nuclear weapons, especially by China, South Korea, and Britain. He explains that plutonium can be extracted from nuclear power reactors and quickly used to make a bomb, similar to the Nagasaki weapon. Sokolski criticizes the US Energy Department for suggesting that new reactor designs like Natrium and Ollo can extract plutonium while leaving enough radionuclides to prevent bomb-making, a claim previously debunked by studies. He highlights proliferation risks, citing South Korea's historical attempts to use civil reprocessing to acquire nuclear weapons.1215-1230 Jack Burnham, Manhattan Project Lessons for AI and US-China Talent Competition Jack Burnham explains that China views the Manhattan Project as a key lesson in harnessing international talent for national strategic goals, particularly in artificial intelligence. The US successfully recruited theoretical physicists fleeing Nazi Germany, nurturing a scientific reserve for the atomic bomb project. Burnham notes that after World War II, the US continued to prioritize basic science funding, leading to its technological edge. However, he suggests the US is currently struggling with this, as funding issues and regulatory uncertainty are driving American scientists abroad and limiting foreign talent attraction while countries like China, the EU, France, and Canada actively recruit US scientists.1230-1245 Nathaniel Peters, The Nature of Murder and Evil in Andrew Klavan's "The Kingdom of Cain" Nathaniel Peters reviews Andrew Klavan's "The Kingdom of Cain," which explores murder and evil through fiction and real-life examples. Harvard physicist Avi Loeb *probes* the possibility that a fast-moving interstellar object, 31 Atlas, might be an alien probe, not just a comet. While other scientists remain skeptical, citing ordinary physics, Loeb urges world leaders to prepare for extraterrestrial contact. This episode dives into the fine line between scientific speculation and sensationalism, questioning humanity's readiness for "close encounters" and whether we're jumping to "alien to the gaps" conclusions. It's a hilarious look at how even serious scientists can trigger an X-Files episode, highlighting the need for skepticism when wild theories eclipse peer review, and reminding us that perhaps aliens are just smart enough to leave us alone.News Source:Scientist challenges world leaders over mystery comet he fears could be alien probe but time is running outBy Alex Oliveira for New York PostAugust 10, 2025

Tonight on Veritas our special guest is Avi Loeb, Ph.D. Harvard astrophysicist and visionary thinker whose bold ideas have ignited debate and curiosity around the world. Known for challenging conventional wisdom and asking questions most scientists avoid, Dr. Loeb now turns his attention to an extraordinary visitor from deep space, the interstellar object 3I ATLAS, currently racing toward our solar system at sixty kilometers per second. This Manhattan sized enigma is unlike anything we have ever seen. Arriving from the direction of the Milky Way's center, it carries only a 0.005 percent chance of being a natural object according to Loeb's calculations. If he is correct, then we are not simply looking at a chunk of rock from another star system. We may be watching an artificial craft, perhaps a probe, on a deliberate journey toward our cosmic neighborhood. Its closest approach is expected in November. Which raises the questions that have electrified scientists and captivated the public. If this is a visitor from another civilization, do they come in peace? What is their purpose? And why now? Since its discovery, 3I ATLAS has fueled urgent investigation. Astronomers are racing to capture every bit of data before it disappears into interstellar darkness. And while most focus on the science, an unverified online claim has added a strange twist, that a signal was received in Chile and decoded with the help of artificial intelligence. Its authenticity is unproven, but its mere existence shows how quickly mystery can ignite the imagination. Tonight we will explore the science, the speculation, the implications for humanity, and the very real question of whether we are prepared for whatever 3I ATLAS may bring. By the end of this conversation you will have a front row seat to one of the most remarkable and perhaps defining moments in human history.

Just as many analyze rock music for Satan, who can be found in greater abundance instead within pop music, we are looking in the wrong place for aliens and gods too. The approaching 3I/ATLAS interstellar object has been classified as possibly non-natural, largely based on the work of a Harvard team led by Abraham (Avi) Loeb. In a recent paper, termed a “pedagogical exercise,” the team said “the most likely outcome” of the anomaly will be that it is “completely natural interstellar object, probably a comet.” But this has not stopped speculation from spiraling out of control, so that what was a thought experiment has now evolved into a warning about a coming extraterrestrial invasion. But there is more to the story, because the ideas presented here are equivalent to to SARS-CoV2, i.e., an invisible potential threat.Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna recently told Joe Rogan in August 2025 that she's seen evidence of “interdimensional beings” and that there are reports of their “movements outside of time and space.” She goes on to refer to the Bible and the time of Christ, meaning that her comments share a relationship with ancient astronaut theory too. This reminds us of White House science adviser Michael Kratsios who claimed in April 2025 the U.S. has technology that can “manipulate time and space.” It won't be lost on some that the congressman is named Luna, Latin for moon, and the science advisor's name is derived from Kratos, Greek for strength and power and associated with war; he is the enforcer of Zeus with his sister Bia (force). The name “Atlas” has the same meaning of strength, though in mythology he is a Titan, or a primordial deity of natural forces. The two previous interstellar objects, Oumuamua and Borisov, which means “messenger from afar arriving first” and “fighter” respectively. Such names imply a coming messenger and fighter that has the ability to change the order of life and introduce a new way of thinking.Going back to a July 8, 1947, memorandum numbered 6751, the U.S. government reportedly knew that Roswell - whatever happened - was to be understood on the basis that the flying “disks carry crews” or are “under remote control,” and that they have a mission from another world. The documented says their “planet” is an “etheric planet which interpenetrates with our own and is not perceptible to us.” It likewise links their home to the Lokas and Talas, respectively the higher and lower spiritual planes. Avi Loeb also recently posited that 3I/ATLAS may herald the arrival of “a messianic era,” that the messiah may come “from another star.” He also believes there “needs to be an international organization” to deal with possible peace or conflict which accompanies contact, though he hopes, like President Reagan, such a thing will “bring people together” even if it is based on “an external threat.” It must not be a coincidence that reports are simultaneously being published by religious websites claiming Israel has either already performed the red heifer sacrifice or at least conducted a test run for the real ritual, something many believe is necessary before the Third Temple can be built. However, ultra-orthodox Jews believe this is wrong, and that divine intervention should be the author of ritual instead of human initiative. Other Jews see the sacrifice as archaic and believe the messiah is an era, like Loeb eluded too, rather than a person. Either way, almost all Christians are eager to fulfill perceived prophecy.Amateur astronomers have further noted the appearance of cube-like structures near the sun and some have even suggested that certain views of 3I/ATLAS appear to portray the object in a similar form. Of course this relates to Revelation 21:16 which describes the New Jerusalem as a cube. However, the book in question is a metaphoric spiritual treatise and the city in question is nothing more than the foundation of peace. The cube indicates a sort of polished masonic rock, where a person is square and upright. Whether interpreted literally or figuratively we can still find a messianic era and the bringer of peace in these stories, though if such things are perceived as literal they may bring war instead.   On the other hand, UAP celebrities like Jeremy Corbell have contrarily been warning that the public is going to be told “there is a craft on its way to Earth” and that it is a “lie you are going to be told.” So why are we looking in the wrong place for aliens and gods? Because quietly under our noses the rise of AI has taken over businesses, schools, governments and even spirituality. The big technology boom in AI is also, according to Larry Ellison of Oracle, evolving primarily out of Herzliya Israel. If the Jewish messiah or messianic concept in some capacity arrives from another star, even if such an idea can be implanted, then perhaps it would explain why certain Jewish stereotypes and the Jewish covenant with god have been seen as part of the ancient alien narrative. In fact, the entire idea of ancient aliens, or paleo-astronautics, was first introduced by Matest M. Agrest who was born into a family of Torah scholars. As C.J.S. Thomson wrote of the Elf, their home “is in the celestial regions” and they are “skilled in the mechanical arts.”*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. A Harvard astronomer is suggesting that an interstellar object nearing Earth could be an engineered object — rather than a natural one — after making similar claims in in 2023 and 2017.Avi Loeb, the chair of Harvard's astronomy department, told CNN on Thursday that the 31/ATLAS interstellar object detected by the Deep Random Survey remote telescope in Chile could have an alien origin."The brightness of the object implies a diameter of 20 km, and there is not enough rocky material in interstellar space to deliver such a giant object per decade," Loeb said.He noted that it takes "10,000 years for that much mass to arrive to the inner part of the solar system."Loeb also said that the object will be closest to the Earth when our planet is on the opposite side of the sun, meaning we won't be able to actually see it."We won't be able to observe it, but that's the perfect time for it to maneuver, and so we just need to watch it," he said.He went on to say he thinks there's a chance that the object could be engineered rather than naturally occurring."I'm not saying it's an alien technology," Loeb said. "I'm just saying it doesn't look like a very common thing, and actually, the glow that is around this object, usually for comets, you see a trailing tail behind the object and here the glow from the Hubble Space Telescope image is actually in front of the object."The astronomer said that "we've never seen such a thing" and noted that a comet wouldn't "have glow in front of it."He argued that it's prudent for humanity to examine any interstellar objects entering our solar system, just to be sure they're harmless.“[31/ATLAS] may come to save us or destroy us,” he said. “We'd better be ready for both options and check whether all interstellar objects are rocks.”31/ATLAS made news in July after scientists confirmed it originated outside of our solar system, making it one of only three known interstellar objects discovered in our little slice of space. The object is massive, with scientists estimating it is more than 12 miles wide.Loeb theorizing a more enigmatic origin of the object isn't exactly off-brand for him. In 2023 he made headlines after he and a team recovered a meteor that fell into the Pacific Ocean. He claimed at the time that an analysis found previously unseen metal alloys in the rock, suggesting at very least an origin outside of our solar system, but other astrophysicists were skeptical of those claims.Back in 2017, Oumuamua, a long, rod-like object, became the first known interstellar object detected in our solar system.Loeb released a paper in 2021 exploring the idea that the strange object — which about the length of a football field but only as thick as a common cigar — was possibly using a "light sail" that captures the sun's energy as a means of propulsion. He was essentially suggesting that Oumuamua could have been crafted by aliens or some other intelligence.n 2023, researchers published a study that found the object's strange orbit and apparent propulsion was actually achieved through a mechanism found in many icy comets. Essentially, hydrogen was being released from the object as it was warmed by the sun's heat.“For a comet several kilometers across, the outgassing would be from a really thin shell relative to the bulk of the object, so both compositionally and in terms of any acceleration, you wouldn't necessarily expect that to be a detectable effect,” UC Berkeley assistant professor of chemistry Jennifer Bergner said at the time. “But because Oumuamua was so small, we think that it actually produced sufficient force to power this acceleration.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/earth-ancients--2790919/support.
