In this week's episode we are taking a look at a cosy cult classic, as we tackle Trick R' Treat. Did we follow the Halloween rules or were we paid a visit by Sam? In this episode we talk about the first time we both saw this movie, and what our initial thoughts were. Why did this movie underperform? Did the studio screw it over? How did it go on to become a beloved cult classic? How does it hold up as an Anthology film? also, is this the best Horror film for capturing the Halloween season that isn't part of that other Horror franchise? Why haven't we got more of these films by now and what are we anticipating from the long gestating sequel? Does Sam deserve his place alongside other iconic Horror characters? We also go on a little Easter Egg hunt, as we countdown all of the references to John Carpenter and his works sprinkled throughout. All this and a lot more in this week's fun filled episode.

Brief summary of episode:Jack O'Connell has been an avid music lover since he was in diapers and was burning mixes at age 7, ripping a personal Beach Boys hits anthology. He has been listening constantly since. From hearing Fastball's All the Pain Money Can Buy on cassette in the car to elementary school, to The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack on the Walkman, he discovered music early and was hooked. Along the way he endured the zeitgeist of Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC, dancing along to their performances at Madison Square Garden on VHS. Eventually his babysitter introduced him to the local alternative rock station–99.1 WHFS (R.I.P.)–where he could finally hear pop-punk icons like Blink-182 and Good Charlotte, Jack's first exposure to the combination of raw rock and catchy pop. Blink also influenced him toward the drums. During a drive past the Baltimore School for Drumming while listening to Enema of the State at age 10, Travis Barker unwittingly set events in motion that led Jack toward devotion to the kit. During his eight years of private drum lessons with virtuoso and now long-time friend John Coale, Jack practiced his craft with Kidz Rock bands at The Music Workshop, instructed by singer/guitarist Fred Moss in the ways of performing and band dynamics. Eventually he played drums with his middle school's jazz ensemble, taking him out of his head-bashing comfort zone and into more complex and elegant styles. Since playing in liturgical and theatre bands in high school, he has played countless shows at venues in and around Baltimore, as well as major cities around the east coast on tour with surf rockers Trunkweed, honing an understanding for the politics of booking and the challenges of creating good live sound. Jack attended a summer program on music industry at Drexel University, which cemented his decision to attend Towson University. While working on his audio degree, doing audio/visual work for Towson event services, and teaching drum lessons from home, he began buying recording gear, building a studio, and producing on his own. Jack played virtually every venue in Baltimore and published a full-length record, Anything But Ordinary, which Jack co-wrote and produced, with his former band, pop-rockers The Chance.Jack has more recently been making music with his brother, Danny, as Backyard Games, and is currently working on their first full-length album, all recorded and produced at O'Connell Sound. He also periodically plays around Fells Point on the weekends playing cover gigs. The Truth In This ArtThe Truth In This Art is a podcast interview series supporting vibrancy and development of Baltimore & beyond's arts and culture. In "Jack in the Box," O'Brien's follow-up to his memoir "Jack Be Nimble," the director collects stories from the many productions he has worked on, the great talents he encountered and collaborated with (including Tom Stoppard, Mike Nichols, Jerry Lewis, Marsha Mason, and many others), and the choices he made, on the stage and off, that have come to define his career.

Reggie Carlisle – John (Beta) Trae Mowaka- Jesse Jack Nash – John (Prime) GM- Tod Foley We are in a desert. Trae tries pinging Earth via UpVector radio. No response. A strange creature approaches from the distance, tall and reddish-orange in color with a long neck and clawed feet. Reggie opens up 2-way telepathic communication with it. The creature "Tweel" is excited to see humans, but says it is unsafe here: “We must go to that ridge!” Nash realizes we're on a known Dream Node based on Weinbaum's Mars. No one has read the story, but Nash has glanced at the Big Model data and knows this species once had high civilization - even space travel - before they depleted their planet of water. - Tweel tells Reggie that Jarvis said he'd return with a plan to bring water from Earth. Reggie has an idea to solve the water problem in exchange for power. Trae points out that the entire problem is also part of the dream, and thus doesn't matter if they solve it. This doesn't change Reggie's mind. Tweel, who says they have a "tremendous magnificent power station." Trae wonders about somehow creating a water replicator. This prompts Reggie to Lucid Dream a weather system directly over the city. After a few minutes rain begins to fall. Tweel freaks out: "Oh no! We will become targets for all the other thirsty creatures! "You have destroyed us!" Tweel shouts. Reggie convinces Tweel that working together his people can make this work: they just need to build some aqueducts. Tweel is encouraged, and they head off toward the city, where Tweel agrees to show them the Power Station. - Barrel Beasts and Thoth work together despite their differences to maintain the last working power station, which succeeds in pumping out only a few thousand gallons of water a day. There is some argument over whether or not Reggie is a rain god, and the Barrel Beasts who tend the power array are upset about all the water that's gathered in the dish. Nash and Trae drag out cables and jerry-rig a connection to the Marduk. An argument ensues, both groups of aliens screeching and whistling and gesturing angrily. - Reggie Lucid Dreams a big circular hole in the cloud cover above the city, while Nash plays with the dish controls until he manages to dump the water out. - Jacko Constance radios from Earth: Trae's message made it through after all! He says "You're supposed to be on Drir - have you suffered a flux storm?" and asks if the Marduk needs assistance. "Shall we clear Bay X?" and Nash agrees. Reggie takes one last look at the Barrel Beasts and the Thoth, arguing and throwing things at each other, and makes the slip. Back in Bay X, Jacko welcomes Nash home while Trae checks argofans.com, only to find that the website does not exist. Still not home. The date is early December: several weeks *before* they left the last Earth. They've moved *backward* in time. - The crew discusses their predicament. They need to find a reality in which Trae exists, but so far they haven't. They consider talking to some SlipSpace scientists at the Academy of Intraspace Technology. - Reggie contacts Frank telepathically. Frank shouts "BACK THE FUCK OFF!" and slams him out of his chair. "Oh yeah," thinks Reggie, "Frank thought I was the Enemy a few weeks ago." - Jacko suddenly calls over the ground radio. He asks to get a visual on Nash, as security guards begin moving in around the ship. "I just got a message from your ship,” Jacko explains, “ and it says you guys are preparing to come in from Drir?" http://daytrippersrpg.com https://www.patreon.com/asif Twitter https://twitter.com/CORErpgsystem CORE on Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/corerpg/ CORE Discord https://discord.gg/eM5u4XesXr CORE on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/COREroleplaying CORE Products: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?filters=100202_0_0_0_0 https://www.patreon.com/legendsoftabletop Theme music created by Brett Miller http://www.brettmillermusic.net/

Be sure to tune in to "Epix Sunday November 13th Rogue Heroes is a dramatized account of how the world's greatest Special Forces unit, the Special Air Service (SAS), was formed under extraordinary circumstances in the darkest days of World War II. Based on Ben Macintyre's best-selling book of the same name, the series centers on David Stirling, an eccentric young officer who is hospitalized after a training exercise gone wrong. Convinced that traditional commando units don't work, Stirling creates a radical plan that flies in the face of all accepted rules of modern warfare. He fights for permission to recruit the toughest, boldest, and brightest soldiers for a small undercover unit that will create mayhem behind enemy lines. More rebels than soldiers, Stirling's team is every bit as complicated, flawed, and reckless as it is brave and heroic. Hi, everybody! I am Georgiana, your English teacher and founder of SpeakEnglishPodcast.com. My mission is to help you speak English fluently. In today's episode: I'll be talking about one of the most celebrated holidays in the United States: Halloween. After that, you'll practice your speaking with a new mini-story while enjoying my new Question & Answer story. Very well. Let's get started! Halloween is a holiday celebrated on the last day of October. I would say it's very popular because everybody's excited about it, especially children. The word Halloween comes from an old English expression, "All Hallows' Eve," and it means the day before All Saints' Day. Children of all ages really love Halloween because they can dress up in funny costumes and knock on their neighborhood doors, shouting, "Trick or Treat!". The neighbors usually give them candies. The meaning of the phrase "Trick or Treat" is interesting. In this context, "treat" means getting the candies, and "trick" means the consequence of not getting the sweets. It's like an innocent threat children make. Of course, kids get really excited when they knock on strangers' doors in their neighborhood. Since Halloween originated as a celebration connected with evil spirits, the most common symbols are witches flying on broomsticks, ghosts, skeletons, black cats, etc. The black color is one of the traditional Halloween colors. Of course, pumpkins are also a Halloween symbol. I'm sure you've seen them in movies. People empty pumpkins and put a candle inside to make a lamp. How do you make a Halloween pumpkin? The first step is hollowing out the pumpkin. After that, we use a keyhole we saw to cut the hole. When using a candle for illumination, you can cut the hole in the pumpkin's top. For electric lights, make a hole in the bottom or side so you can hide the cord. The Halloween pumpkin is called Jack-O'-Lantern. It's common to see jack-o'-lanterns on doorstep decorations before and on Halloween. The name comes from an Irish legend about a man named Jack. He was so ungenerous that when he died, he couldn't enter Heaven, but he couldn't go to Hell either because he had told jokes about the Devil. As a result, Jack had to walk and walk with a lantern until the Day of Judgment. Here's what a typical family does at Halloween: They decorate their home. Americans spend about 5 billion dollars every year. They buy costumes. A costume is not cheap. It can cost $30 or more. They buy plenty of candy, and of course, they eat it. Kids go "trick or treating." In most towns, it's only allowed from 3 pm until5 pm because it gets dark quickly. Very well, now you know a bit more about this beautiful holiday. Maybe next time, you'll carve your own Halloween pumpkin and celebrate Halloween just like an American! Get the transcript here: SpeakEnglishPodcast.com/podcast
