Artificial Intelligence. As a child of the 80s, I remember fondly one of my favorite movies and its subsequent sequels about when the machines gain self-awareness and take over. If you are too young and don't recall that movie, perhaps you remember the catch phrase “I'll Be Back.” If you still don't know, good golly, get out and go see The Terminator! When I hear about artificial intelligence and thinking about that movie, I can't help to be a little apprehensive about using it. I don't think we are on any cusp of machines taking over, but we do have a powerful new tool that has the potential to revolutionize how we approach medicine, patient care, and our jobs. We are joined by a frequent AI user today to discuss AI in more detail. Connect with The Host! Subscribe to This Podcast Now! The ultimate success for every podcaster – is FEEDBACK! The stripes of red, white and blue conjure images of all kinds – depending on who you are, where you live but more importantly – what kind of comic books you read. The Marvel Comic Universe has become a behemoth, that has so many tendrils, tentacles and details – well, if you stop paying attention for just a brief series of days, you may just be lost in detail oblivion. We now live in a world where television series tie into movies, movies tie to Internet and Blu-ray shorts, and back again to the smaller HD screen – REGULARLY. Captain America: The Winter Solder does this – with definitive skill, with brazen courage, much like that of Cap diving out of the back of a cargo lifter with no parachute. The Action. The Storytelling. The Character Engagement. The World Building. It's all here inside the second offering of everyone's favorite thought to be dead but isn't Super Soldier, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Was this movie as good as the first? Is it a fitting piece into the mosaic that is the MCU? We are in our sixth year of the podcast and I'm in the middle of my 20th year as a sports medicine physician. Twenty years flew by which means I've probably passed the halfway point in my medical career, unless I feel inspired to still be seeing patients in my seventies, which seems highly unlikely. I thought it would be fun to look back at the last twenty years and talk with a trusted colleague who helped me on this path and what's maybe surprised us in how we deal with sports medicine issues and where we think things may head the rest of our careers. In this episode of Journey of Hope, host Elio Constantine welcomes Tom Atima, co-founder of Heart for Lebanon, to discuss the impactful Summer of Hope Program. This initiative has provided over 2,500 children in Lebanon with a summer filled with joy, education, and the love of Christ amidst the country's ongoing challenges. Tom shares the origins and strategy behind Summer of Hope, emphasizing the importance of giving children positive activities during the summer months. Shahed's journey from being a bully to a compassionate helper exemplifies the profound impact of the Summer of Hope.Tom and Elio also discuss the broader Children-at-Risk initiative, which runs year-round, and the future plans to enroll many of these children in the H.O.P.E. (Helping Overcome Poverty through Education) Program. Denise Brown's life was turned upside down on June 12, 1994 when her sister, Nicole Brown Simpson, was murdered along with Ron Goldman. Since then she's been committed to raising awareness against domestic violence. Since early 1995 Denise has traveled to various states speaking on the epidemic of domestic violence. She has addressed university student bodies, men in prison and in batterers' treatment programs, women at risk, church groups and various educational and legislative forums. She's helped raise funds for local shelters all across the country with her appearances, and has assisted in the success of a major project called the Vine System. This Program is an automated victim notification service of the release of batterers from jail or prison. As part of her commitment, Denise has worked to help pass a variety of legislative solutions for domestic violence. One of her most important projects was to lobby on behalf of the Violence Against Women Act, the funding of which she helped increase $18-million to $32-million. She's made a life-long commitment to educate the public as well as improve the quality of living for women and children who have been victims of domestic violence. Nicole was so much more than just a murder victim. She was a beloved daughter, sister, and mother. And so I'm thrilled to have Denise help us learn more about her sister and her life, sharing memories from their childhood through the day that short life tragically ended 30 years ago. She also shares her own heartbreaking journey; how she's personally navigated this nightmare; and her critical work as an activist against domestic violence. Got somethin' to say?! I'm so excited to dive into today's episode, where we're going to talk about one of the most frustrating symptoms of perimenopause: poor sleep. If you're finding yourself lying awake at night, staring at the ceiling, you're definitely not alone. Studies show that up to 61% of women in perimenopause experience poor sleep quality. But don't worry, because today, we're going to explore why this is happening and how to fix it. So, why are perimenopausal women having trouble sleeping? There are several factors at play: Hormone fluctuations: As you approach menopause, your hormone levels begin to fluctuate, particularly estrogen and progesterone. These changes can disrupt your sleep-wake cycle and lead to insomnia, hot flashes, and other sleep disturbances. Stress: Perimenopause can be a stressful time, with many women juggling work, family, and other responsibilities. Stress triggers the release of cortisol and other stress hormones, which can interfere with sleep and exacerbate other perimenopausal symptoms. Lifestyle factors: Poor sleep habits, such as staying up late, watching TV in bed, and consuming caffeine or alcohol before bedtime, can also contribute to poor sleep quality. So, how can you improve your sleep quality during perimenopause? Introducing the SLEEP framework: S - Sleep environment: Create a relaxing sleep environment by keeping your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet. Avoid using electronics in bed and establish a consistent sleep-wake cycle. L - Lifestyle changes: Reduce stress by practicing relaxation techniques like meditation or yoga. Limit caffeine and alcohol intake, and avoid eating heavy or spicy foods before bedtime. E - Estrogen support: Learn what foods and supplements can help support your estrogen levels or other estrogen-supportive supplements or herbs that can help regulate your hormone levels and improve sleep. E - Exercise: Regular physical activity can help reduce stress, improve mood, and promote better sleep. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week. P - Progesterone support: Progesterone is another hormone that can affect sleep quality. Consider using natural remedies to support healthy hormone balance. Poor sleep is a frustrating and common symptom of perimenopause, but with the right tools and support, it doesn't have to be a permanent part of your life. By following the SLEEP framework, you can take steps to improve your sleep quality and overall health. So, try it out and see what works best for you! Thank you so much for listening, and if you enjoyed this episode, don't forget to subscribe and leave this a review! I love hearing from our listeners. And as always, you can find more resources and information on our website. And sister...don't forget to be more in your life and not just less on a scale.
