He stayed at the University of Wisconsin for his pediatric residency, followed by a year as the chief resident. Following residency, he completed a pediatric and adult sports medicine fellowship at Vanderbilt University. He has been an elected member to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness and the Board of Directors of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM). He has served as a team physician or medical consultant to numerous high schools, Vanderbilt University, Belmont University, Washington University, St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, St. Louis Athletica, and St. Louis Rams. He serves and has served on many local, regional and national committees as an advisor for sports medicine and concussions. Dr. Bernhardt is the co-director of the UW Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship and is the Head Medical Team Physician for University of Wisconsin Athletics and provided coverage for Badger men's basketball and women's volleyball teams, as well as for men's and women's cross country and track.. He has served as the medical chaperone for the Paralympic experience at the Vancouver Olympic games in 2010. He enjoys teaching medical student, residents, fellows and student athletic trainers and was honored by the American Academy of Pediatrics for his lifelong contributions to pediatric sports medicine as the Thomas Schaffer award winner and recently was named the recipient of the 2026 Andy Hipskind Distinguished Big Ten Physician Award.

  In March of 2026, the International Olympic Committee released a new policy on the Protection of the Female (Women's) Category in Olympic Sports. This new policy is applicable to the 2028 Olympic Games to be hosted in Los Angeles and onward and is not being applied retroactively or to any grassroots or recreational sports programs.  But what does this new policy address and how what should we think about this. Allen, MD, is Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and Head of Endocrinology and Diabetes and Director of the Endocrinology and Diabetes Fellowship Program at the University of Wisconsin American Family Children's Hospital in Madison.  He graduated from Stanford University with honors in humanities and biology, obtained his MD degree from Duke University School of Medicine, and completed pediatric residency, chief residency, and a fellowship training at the University of Wisconsin. He is the recipient of numerous awards for excellence in education, clinical care, and academic leadership, most notably the ACGME Parker Palmer “Courage to Teach” national award, the University of Wisconsin Presidential Physician Leadership Award, the Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association Career Citation Award, the University of Wisconsin Clinical Educator Award, and the Judson Van Wyk Prize for outstanding career achievement given by the Pediatric Endocrine Society. Dr. Allen served as Director of the UW Pediatric Residency Program from 1993-2007 and as Program Director of the UW Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Fellowship since 2003.  On the national level, Dr. Allen was elected Director (2000-2003) and then President (2010-2011) of the Pediatric Endocrine Society.  He served as Chair of the Wisconsin Endocrine Newborn Screening Committee from 1991-2015, and as member of the American Board of Pediatrics sub-board for Pediatric Endocrinology 2010-2015.  He is an editorial reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed journals, served as editorial board member for the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism and Associate Editor for the International Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology.  On the international level, Dr. Allen was selected to Chair the Organizing Committee for and then serve as President of the 2017 10th International Meeting of Pediatric Endocrinology. His research interests have included innovative use of human growth hormone to restore normal growth and increase physical function in children with glucocorticoid-induced growth suppression and with Prader-Willi syndrome. He has also led studies of childhood adipose organ development and dysfunction, improving fitness and insulin sensitivity to prevent diabetes onset in children, improving newborn screening programs for endocrine disorders, and preventing and assessing systemic effects of inhaled corticosteroids.  Throughout his career, Dr. Allen has also spoken and published extensively about issues of ethics and cost-effectiveness in the treatment of disorders of childhood growth.  He has written more than 240 articles, letters, monographs, and book chapters, edited 4 textbooks, and has presented at more than 180 regional, national, and international meetings. Dr. Allen's personal interests include improvisational jazz piano and providing philanthropic music for local charities and missions.  He is an avid cyclist, skier, and runner (two-time US Olympic Marathon trials qualifier with a PR of 2 hours 17 minutes) and most importantly, a doting grandfather.

She is currently the CAATE Director of the Graduate Athletic Training Program at Michigan State University. She is a Fellow in the NATA and in 2022 was inducted as a Fellow in the National Academy of Kinesiology. Nikki Harris:  Dr. Nikki Harris serves as Associate Professor and Director of Student Recruitment in the Department of Athletic Training at A.T. Still University. She holds a Doctor of Athletic Training (DAT) from ATSU and a Doctor of Philosophy in Teaching and Learning from Florida International University. In addition, she brings nearly a decade of clinical experience across secondary school and collegiate settings prior to transitioning to academia. Nikki values the effects of research on practice and education and has demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of the athletic training profession through her scholarly work. Her research examines how athletic trainers are educated, socialized, and supported within educational and healthcare systems, and how social, environmental, and contextual factors influence patient care and outcomes. Eric Post:  Eric Post, PhD, ATC is the Manager of Sports Medicine Research at the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee, where he oversees research initiatives to advance Team USA athlete health and safety. Dr. Backus then attended Duke University for medical school and completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. While in residency, he was selected as a resident scholar for the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Annual meeting. Following residency, Dr. Backus completed a Foot and Ankle Fellowship at the Steadman Clinic. Prior to joining The Steadman Clinic surgical staff, he was an Assistant Professor at Washington University Orthopedics and previously in private practice in the Denver area. Dr. Backus was recognized by his peers as a Castle Connolly Top Doctors in the St. Louis area from 2021-2023. Every year, the ISN Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program brings essential teaching and training to some 14,000 doctors and healthcare practitioners in the emerging world. This Program supports the conceptual design of local and regional meetings in resource-low countries by contributing to the organization of the meeting and helping arrange faculty for the meeting. This episode is hosted by Urmila Anandh (India), a member CME Program Committee and she is joined by Rümeyza Turan Kazancioglu (Turkey), Adrian Liew (Singapore) and Jaime Restrepo (Colombia) to discuss the activities and initiatives of the CME Programs Committee. They discuss how the committee serves the ISN and the global nephrology world.

Shahed's journey from being a bully to a compassionate helper exemplifies the profound impact of the Summer of Hope.Tom and Elio also discuss the broader Children-at-Risk initiative, which runs year-round, and the future plans to enroll many of these children in the H.O.P.E. (Helping Overcome Poverty through Education) Program. Denise Brown's life was turned upside down on June 12, 1994 when her sister, Nicole Brown Simpson, was murdered along with Ron Goldman. Since then she's been committed to raising awareness against domestic violence. Since early 1995 Denise has traveled to various states speaking on the epidemic of domestic violence. She has addressed university student bodies, men in prison and in batterers' treatment programs, women at risk, church groups and various educational and legislative forums. She's helped raise funds for local shelters all across the country with her appearances, and has assisted in the success of a major project called the Vine System. This Program is an automated victim notification service of the release of batterers from jail or prison. As part of her commitment, Denise has worked to help pass a variety of legislative solutions for domestic violence. One of her most important projects was to lobby on behalf of the Violence Against Women Act, the funding of which she helped increase $18-million to $32-million. She's made a life-long commitment to educate the public as well as improve the quality of living for women and children who have been victims of domestic violence. Nicole was so much more than just a murder victim. She was a beloved daughter, sister, and mother. And so I'm thrilled to have Denise help us learn more about her sister and her life, sharing memories from their childhood through the day that short life tragically ended 30 years ago.
