Tonight is all about that Land Down Under ! Australia has produced some amazing bands - many you know VERY well, many you don't - and we are about to introduce (or re-introduce) you to a whole bunch of great tunes... give us a listen... HEY ! Please comment on this one... If you were able to meet your favorite band ever... what are the Three Questions you would ask them... we will be interviewing many bands coming up this next year - and want your input... so do that please. We went through the 70's (The Saints, AC/DC, Cold Chisel, Skyhooks, INXS, etc..) and the 80's briefly (Divinyls, Hunters & Collectors, Nick Cave, Crowded House) the 90's (Savage Garden, Regurgitator, The Vines, The Avalanches, The Sleepy Jackson) and after that... 2000 and beyond... Jet, Cut Copy, Pendulum, Howling Bells, Wolfmother, and Empire of the Sun. Look - you don't have to like all the music we discuss... but it's totally fine to appreciate the artists. If there's something you liked hearing - go buy stuff directly from that band. Thanks for joining in on this conversation between two buddies who love music, and love talking about it. Support your local artist !
Dom Richmond of Eiger Studios catches up with Ken Nelson to talk all things music production and the process behind working with some of worlds biggest acts.Ken Nelson is a triple Grammy Award winning record producer best known for his work with Coldplay, most notably for producing their first two records. He has achieved commercial success with Gomez and Badly Drawn Boy who have both won the Mercury Music Prize and in 2003 was voted “Producer of the year” by Music Week magazine. The Autumns, Beach House, The Dears – fucking love The Dears, Dirty Three, Emmy the Great, Fionn Regan Howling Bells, John Grant, Lanterns on the Lake, Laura Veirs, Lift to Experience, Midlake, The Walkman…For the last 25 years, Bella Union have been responsible for bringing me some of the best music I've ever heard. And before that, the label's owner, Simon Raymonde, in tandem with Elizabeth Fraser and Robin Guthrie in the immortal Cocteau Twins, was responsible for bringing me even more. I can't imagine what my listening habits would look like without Simon and without Bella Union, and so I'm delighted to speak to him on this episode about all of the above and more. We talk about the band Simon is currently managing – the brilliant Big Joanie – how Bella Union came to be, his thoughts on the legacy of his old band the Cocteau Twins, his feelings on where the record business finds itself in 2023, his forthcoming memoir, and his posthumous relationship with his father, the late, great Ivor Raymonde. How great? I mean, he wrote the Dusty Springfield song 'I Only Want to Be with You'! It's a corker of an episode, this one… Twitter - @jamesjammcmahon Substack - https://spoook.substack.com YouTube - www.youtube.com/channel/UC8Vf_1E1Sza2GUyFNn2zFMA Reddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/jamesmcmahonmusicpod/

Wrap yourself in the reverb-drenched guitar-driven songs from Brighton-based Juanita Stein, sometimes seen fronting the band Howling Bells (originally from Sydney, Australia.) Inherent in her music is a love of pop, psych, and rockenroll from the 1950s and 60s, mixed with some American country, folk, and the Blues. On her latest album, Snapshot, written in tribute to her late father, who was also a musician and guitar player, the layers of guitar twang and fuzz are artfully arranged together with delicate keys and string arrangements. She and her full band play some of the tunes remotely from Brighton, England, and bring some hopeful warmth and joy. Set list: “1, 2, 3, 4,5, 6” “L.O.T.F.” “The Mavericks” 123456: L.O.T.F.: The Mavericks:
