For Episode 73, we head down under—and no, we're not playing “Land Down Under” on repeat, but we are bringing you a story as catchy as that classic tune. We're off to Barossa, Australia's legendary wine region, where old vines, bold Shiraz, and deep community roots come together in a glass. Our guest, James Lindner from Langmeil Winery, isn't just making wine—he's preserving living history. From relocating 140-year-old vines (yes, literally moving them) to championing the Barossa Old Vine Charter, James shares stories that prove wine is more than a drink; it's memory, place, and identity bottled up. We talk soil, sustainability, storytelling, and what it means to balance tradition with modern winemaking. And trust us: once you hear James, you'll want to grab a bottle of Barossa Shiraz and toast to the vines that just keep giving. Cheers to the land of plenty—and to never drinking another boring wine again. Hi friends, happy Tuesday! Okay look... this episode might be a bit, let's say, unsettling. It unpacks the story of one of Australia's most notorious serial killers and his horrifying crimes against young travelers didn't just shock the Land Down Under... but the entire world. From the gruesome discoveries in a state forest to the investigation that finally brought this monster down down... today I talk about how Ivan Milat's terrifying spree unraveled and how he got the nickname the "Backpack Killer." Lots of unpredictable twists and turns in this one, friends. Happy New Year! Also, let me know who you want me to talk about next time. G'day from the Land Down Under! Promise this is our first and last Australia joke in these show notes. Today we welcome the Jewish Hugh Jackman (ok, I lied), Josh Szeps to Ask A Jew! Josh is the host of Uncomfortable Conversations with Josh Szeps, and host of Szeps Live on Substack every Tuesday at 9pm (that's normal time, not whatever they use in Australia). We loved having Josh on, even though he's a lefty and that makes us feel unsafe. But it's hard not to love him, and you will too. Also it doesn't hurt that he's kind of a hottie.Aside from a 40 minute standard chit-chat about aviation, we cover:* Do they even have months in Australia??* We forgive you, Mel Gibson* Shabbas Gay* Why don't people fall in Australia?* The moon looks different in Australia* How much money does Elon Musk have in Australia* Ok Josh, spill it - what happeend to the Malaysian Airline??* Aviation Today - with Josh Szeps* Can you introduce us to the cast of Love on The Spectrum?* The Princess Bride 2* Australia replaced its Prime Minister with a paper straw* 39 minutes in and we're still talking about planes* Josh's grandmoother's amazing holocaust story (sorry we mocked her for it)* Antisemitism in Australia* WHERE'S THE JEWS??* Oh look a bunch of Jews disagreeing about Israel* Josh is wrong about Israel and french fries This is a public episode. On episode 99, Micah and Brian take the time to answer one listener question. Yes, it was that good of a question and it took us an entire show to answer it. But first, we hear from Listener Lu as she wants to know about our plans to visit with Steve and Grant in the Land Down Under from the podcast, Plane Crazy Down Under. We also provide the correct date for the Sydney Marathon, August 31st. And Brian gets to correct his math and clarify his pricing threshold for international upgrades. Then we get to answer the question from Listener Paul, "What is our most favorite airplane movie?" Hint: Just like naming your favorite airplane, naming your favorite airplane movie proved to be just as difficult for Micah! The opening and closing music is provided by the Madalitso Youth Choir as they sing their Welcome song and their Good By song, recorded at the lobby of The Royal Livingston Hotel in Zambia. And if you would like to hear them sing live, get in touch with us at Brian@TheJourneyIsTheReward.ORG to learn about the group trip we are planning in late September, 2025. We hope you enjoy the show!
Angus's family has managed the Wyndham Station near the Anabranch and Darling Rivers in southern Australia for 4 generations. That and the promise of a great Australian accent should be enough to make you listen to this episode. But we also discuss managing the earth's Living Skin, Angus's efforts to get others to think broadly about caring for land and livestock and all living things, including improving health care for humans in remote areas. It's a small world, and Angus's challenges in the Land Down Under are quite similar to those in North America. The Land Down Under, Australia, is our featured nation today; thank you, Aussies. I love your sense of humor and would love to use the words, mate, in a way that sounded natural. I woke up this morning with one thing on my mind, "As Christians, we ought to be stunningly thankful. Here are some of the verses that believers in God should be ridiculously thankful for. We experience the mercies of God, every minute. "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 "Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and YOU SHALL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. 30 "For My yoke is easy, and My load is light." Matthew 11:28-30 "The LORD is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. 9 He will not always strive with us; Nor will He keep His anger forever. 10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. 13 Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. 14 For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust." Psalm 103:8-14 Our so what? Because of mercy, we know Death is conquered. We have a new inner person. We have peace with God. We have hope. Our relationships have eternal meaning. Our conduct has eternal meaning. We have eternal life with the God who loves us. Brethren, let's pray for one another. What do you know about Australia? Which country has the longest fence in the world? How about the 2nd largest Greek population? Three times more sheep than people? One word will give it away: kangaroos. Yes, it's the Land Down Under. Australia is the world's 6th largest country and the only one that's also a whole continent. But with all that territory, over 80% of Australians live within 60 miles of the coast. Before humans arrived, the continent was home to mega-fauna. If you'd lived there about 46,000 years ago, you'd be dead today. But you would've seen 10-foot-tall kangaroos, 23-foot-long goanna lizards, and ducks the size of an adult horse. The Brits had taken over music and pop culture in the 1960s, and then--to a lesser extent--they did it again in the early 80s. But now, it was time for the Aussies to take over... This is a look back on the 1980s Aussie invasion, a time when the Land Down Under heavily influenced radio, record stores, TVs, and movie theatres in North America, and around the world... Whether you played knifey-spoony before or not, it was hard not to be aware of the Australian influence. From Kylie Minogue to Midnight Oil, and Paul Hogan to Yahoo Serious, the Aussies made a big impact on 1980s pop culture. Her fellow hiker/hunter claimed Theresa was abducted by Sasquatch, but authorities suspected foul play. Decades later, Theresa remains missing. (She Was Kidnapped By Bigfoot) *** In the early 1980s, Australia became a hotspot for extraordinary UFO sightings and alien encounters, rivaling those reported in the United States and Europe. From mysterious orange orbs flying in formation to shape-shifting spacecraft and enigmatic beings, these lesser-known incidents suggest that the Land Down Under may hold a special significance for extraterrestrial visitors. Could Australia's unique geography and vast, uninhabited areas be the key to unlocking the secrets of an alien presence on Earth? (Outback Extraterrestrials) *** From 1953 to 1973, the CIA conducted a top-secret mind control program known as Project MKUltra, pushing the boundaries of ethics and legality in the name of national security. Using LSD, hypnosis, and even torture, the agency experimented on unwitting citizens and its own personnel, leaving a trail of controversy and damaged lives in its wake. Decades later, the full extent of MKUltra's operations remains shrouded in mystery, with only fragments of its dark history coming to light through declassified documents and survivor testimonies. (MKUltra and Mind Control) *** From frozen bodies in abandoned buildings to mummified remains in chimneys, there have been numerous chilling discoveries where human remains have been found in the most unexpected places. It's just one way people – either by accident or sinister misdeeds, can simply vanish without a trace. But in a few cases, the bodies do turn up – in bizarre ways and strange locations. What happened to good old fashioned respect in our nation & world? On In The Market with Janet Parshall this week we heard from a woman whose mission is to teach values like humility, respect, resilience and integrity to the next generation of kids. AI seems to be the buzz word of the moment. But unlike the hysteria over Y2K, this new technology is being quickly integrated into every aspect of our digital lives. Should we be concerned? What does this mass implementation mean for how we as humans are viewing our place in the created order. We had an eye opening conversation with a respected apologist who challenged us to consider the issues of morality and AI and whether or not we are allowing AI to change us fundamentally from the role that God created for mankind. Once again we gave you the opportunity to ask your most pressing questions about life with a narcissist and what you can do to manage the multiple challenges that come with this personality type. Once again we punched for ticket for our radio air flight to the Land Down Under as our favorite Scottish apologist exposed the impact of hate crimes in Scotland and concerns that the Church of England is forcing pronoun use on schools across the pond. As we wind down the week, we invite you to join us for a critical conversation on the stories behind the headlines of the week.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

These two twenty-something friends made a pact, worked their asses off, saved their money, bought a boat and are living the dream — figuring it out as they go, but with knowledge and experience earned from working professionally offshore in Australia's oil industry. I spoke to them onboard FALKEN on anchor in Barbados about the wild highs and scary lows of their adventure so far in their mission to sail REVELRY home to Australia. -- If you liked this conversation you'll LOVE The QUARTERDECK, 59 North's 'deep dives on the art of seamanship.' Lenita Abouchabake is from Sydney, Australia and the Founder of Teen Coach Academy. This is her second interview on the Youth Worker On Fire Podcast. Lenita's business is helping adults who already serve teenagers and their families become teen life coaches. That may seem odd to some of you, but life coaching has been around for quite a while... and this is even better! Youth workers need to make a living and they are seldom paid what they are worth. In fact, they are well undervalued in churches who should be pouring the bulk of their resources into their Youth & Family Pastors, students, and their families. Why? Because we say that students are our future, but what many unfortunately mean by this is students are our future... as long as it doesn't cost us too much. If we were to pay workers what they are worth and build a budget to support these future leaders, then we would see frequent worldwide changes in our society. Instead, with the exception of a small percentage of churches and schools worldwide, we "Hope" they will become world changers, but we are not willing to put money and action to that statement of importance. Lenita, on the other hand is willing to put her reputation, resources, and giftedness on the line. She believes youth workers, students and their parents are worth the effort and sacrifice. In this episode, Lenita will guide you how you can support yourself, so that you can afford to make a good living while serving the teens and families that you know are ready to change their world. Lenita's company (Teen Coach Academy) trains great leaders to grow up great leaders. Why? Because Lenita was a teen of a single mom who paid coaches to help her become the great woman of God, a world changing leader, and the successful business owner that she has become. Thank you for sharing Lenita (all the way from The Land Down Under) to the rest of the world! The Blind Rage Podcast returns to The Land Down Under for Greg McLean's 2013 sequel WOLF CREEK 2. With a much higher body count, buckets of gore, and an oh so familiar cackle, the expansive roads of the Australian Outback run red as Mick Taylor embarks on another blood-soaked rampage. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/blindragepod/message
This week on The Blind Rage Podcast, we're returning to The Land Down Under for Greg McLean's cult classic WOLF CREEK! Brutal and oftentimes extreme, McLean's celluloid nightmare holds up quite well. With its simple premise involving three backpackers who are accosted by a maniac in the middle of nowhere, it's a raw terror that could—and does—happen to anyone. The thought of being lost in the Australian Outback is horrifying enough, but to be lost with a psychopath like Mick Taylor hot on your trail… Well, that's an experience I can do without. Unfortunately, for these friends, they'll learn how it feels to be hunted, as well as the true meaning of “a head on a stick.” --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/blindragepod/message

The Land Down Under as it exists today is very new in the grand scheme of things. During the early days of exploration it really existed only as a myth, the great southern land of legend. Once it was finally "discovered" and I say that because the first Aboriginal peoples had been there oh say roughly 60,000 years at that point, it didn't take long for the British to turn it into another colony, as Britain tended to do with literally anything. It's an extremely fascinating circumstance in which a people were left to live and develop untouched by other cultures for thousands of years, and then only within the last 250 years does a modern civilization step in to kinda ruin it, but then at the same type create a people as cool as the Aussies. How did this happen? Tune in and find out.

On In The Market with Janet Parshall this week, we turned a critical eye toward the growing acceptance of homosexuality in the church. Our guest, a former gay man and now defender of the faith, explained the strategy that was used to draw believers away from God’s definition and standards regarding human sexuality and create greater acceptance of this alternative gospel. Despite the Roe V. Wade victory, the fight for unborn children continues to wage across this nation. Our guest used his legal expertise to help us understand how significant the reversal of the abortion pill ban in Colorado is and why we must all continue the fight for religious freedom in this nation. Across the world believers are standing up and in many cases losing their lives for the gospel and their faith. We encouraged you to take part in a very special event that highlights the persecuted church and what and how to pray for those who are on the front lines of the war against Christianity. The reach and impact of the entertainment industry continues to affect all of our lives. Our guest who has her finger on the pulse of Hollywood, discussed the polarizing impact of the Israel- Hamas war on that industry, the writer’s strike and the recent, unexpected death of a beloved television actor. Then we were invited to step back in time to hear the amazing story of how God used the least likely circumstances to transform the life of a young musician who ended up preserving the early Negro spirituals. We punched your ticket for our radio flight to the Land Down Under as our favorite Scottish apologist shared how God is moving him into a new ministry opportunity. He also gave us some timely warnings about the growth of the anti-Semitism and the transhumanism movements around the world. Now is not the time to be naïve when the daily news reminds us of the ongoing spiritual battle taking place all around us. It is time to sharpen our discernment as we tackle more of the headlines of the week.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this installment of Sasquatch Tracks, the team is joined by Australian researcher Buck Buckingham, who shares his knowledge about Australian Yowies, the purported relict hominoid that occupies the remote wilds of the Land Down Under. Buckingham is a member of the group Australian Yowie Research, and has been hooked on Yowie studies ever since he came across Dean Harrison's website in 2005. It answered many questions about his own sightings and encounters when he was 15. Buck had been manning the thermal cameras one night while accompanying Harrison and several other members in Springbrook National Park when they captured images of what appear to be a very large, humanlike animal. Buckingham shares the story of how he captured this remarkable footage, and how the ongoing study of Australian Yowies is helping to expand our knowledge of the dispersion of purported relict hominoids all around the globe.
