A light hearted unrehearsed often sarcastic view on both current and controversial events.
We touched on Tears For Fears - . it was fun and we gave the props to a band that rocked the world in the 80s and 90s. ... if you want ACTUAL facts - look up "Professor of Rock - Tears for Fears" on youtube or Rick Beato -they both do an excellent job…but we hope you enjoy our take on the band. Also - there is a quiz - can you guess the theme thing ... El Carpe tries to stump Eric (who kills it and solved this easily) - but can you? Listen in - see if you can find the thread that ties these songs/bands together. Also, we showcased the Pixies, songs from Trompe le Monde Thanks for joining us in our impromptu podcast…through musical fun and silly chat between two buddies who just love music. Remember, our show is never rehearsed and always LIVE - we had fun tonight and hope you do too. Oh man them horns... ! "I love you baby!" Bring on the fun - Bring on the tunes. Join our super secret club - all ya gotta do is listen live and type into the chat "pour me another brother" - you're in ! U2 - Ya... they freakin' rock - look up U2 + gospel choir - I still haven't found what I'm looking for - for an emotional video. From Rattle and Hum Thanks for stopping by !
The Kinks. super influential band and overall great on their own... Who did they influence, inspire and what bands took their simple and creative rockin' vibe and made it their own and ran with it? Tonight, Eric and I make a feeble attempt at honoring the band and whom they influenced. Sure was a fun time, with great tunes. Join in for the silliness and the music. We found these bands as influenced by the Kinks: The Romantics, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Velvet Underground, Jane's Addiction, David Bowie, The Beach Boys, Camper Van Beethoven the Magic Shoppe, The Frowning Clouds, The Jam, the Knack, and the Pretenders and we finished with Killing Joke. Did we hit the mark? Were there other bands you can think of that we didn't address you feel should have been included? Let us know - we'll follow up because we are that desparate. Thanks both of you for showing up and joining in to our world-class, award winning show.
LA Witch... great tunes, inspired another award approaching show by us... we played some songs by this LA 'garage' band that made a name for themselves in the clubs and have quite the dedicated following. Once we got started it spun off into a "hey, this other band has a similar sound... dontcha think?"... and it went off into the silly fun chatty stuff we do so well ... like 2 sugared up kids at the park. Other bands we played tonight: Yannis & the Yaw, Nirvana, Mazzy Star, the Misfits, Surfin Dead Boys, Messer Chups, Death Valley Girls, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Warm Drag and the Cramps... and likely others. Some new friends and old friends chime in to this Award Winning Show (hey, "participation ribbon" is an award) presented by idiots (me & Eric) and enjoyed by thousands. We had a bundle of fun - hope you do to listening to two buddies mince words and play tunes. You can be part of our Super Secret Schitty Committee - next time we are on - call in and say "Pour Me Another Brother" for fun and prizes. This underwear isn't getting any newer. (that's an inside joke? "yeah, in your PANTS") - what are we ... eight?
Tonights podcast was about the band we saw at Masonic Temple in Detroit, MI. October 23rd 2024. The The from London, UK. The The and Matt Johnson put on a soulfully mix of songs that included 2 sets. The first in its entirety "Ensoulment" and the 2nd set from all their classics, including: Sweet Birds of Truth, Infected, GIANT and Uncertain Smile. A concert that will go down into the record books as one most respected and enjoyed. Remember, you never paid for any of this...its always LIVE and unrehearsed and unedited. We give the music to you the listener. It's always an Unguarded Moment. Thanks for supporting us, we appreciate it. See you next week-
James... a band 'born of frustration' and Johnny Marr a legendary guitarist... (Smiths, Electronic, and others) we were fortunate enough to see them both in one night. You could too - as they are touring together in 2024. Tonight Eric and I chat about our experience at the show, play some live tunes from that night (and some from other nights of this tour). We had a blast at the show, and another one making this show for you. If you like any of the tunes we played tonight, or maybe become interested in the bands we talked about - go to their website and buy their tunes, merch and tickets to go see them live. We were NOT disappointed - and would expect any red-blooded music lover to feel the same. As always - we appreciate both of you listening and enjoying our award-winning world class show - and if you'd like to be one of our "special friends" - next time we are live - you just type into the chat "Pour Me another Brother" and you are in our club ! Rock on with your bad self.
THE QUIZ SHOW ! Tonight El Carpe gets back at Eric with a "guess the theme" show - 8 songs all have something in common. The hints are useless. Listen in to see if Eric gets it or not. ERIC messes with El Carpe in a paragraph of song titles... can you follow along and get the list of bands? Dena Jo and El Carpe do their best to figure this out... how did you do? We also featured some tunes from Yannis & the Yaw - like - Walk through Fire and a couple others. El Carpe heard an amazing interview with Yannis on NPR this week and this music is a bit addictive... your thoughts? The Law Offices of Jamison, Walker, Statler and Waldorf have approved of this show (barely) and the 'disclaimer' indicates that we are claiming FAIR USE and just playing tunes because we want you to go out and support the artists we talk about - if you want to - buy their stuff if you like it. As always, you can join our super schitty committee by typing in our live show "Pour Me Another Brother" -- you don't get anything except recognition of your awesomeness... but that's something - right? Remember, you haven't paid for this... so when it's disappointing - you've nothing to complain about.
Tonight we showcased a group of bands that are associated with one of the most unique, influential and creative music producers of all time. An eclectic mix of genres that together has become some of the most recognized songs we continue to hear today. From Rap, to R&B, to Metal and Funk. Songs that will never get old. Songs that tell a story. Bands like The Beastie Boys, Run DMC, The Cult, Adele, Johnny Cash, The Junk Yard Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, System of a Down and many many more...a producer respected on creativity and reputation. His name is Rick Rubin. Youtube: Rick Beato - Rick Rubin Interview Thanks for listening and check us out next week. Always live, never researched and never edited It's an Unguarded Moment
Tonight we changed the format a bit and showcased a few bands, The Cure and their new song Alone, The Tragically Hip and a beautiful solo artist Sarah Mclachlan both from our neighboring country of Canada. For us in Detroit, a 20 minute ride to the border...The Hip is a rock band fronted by poet and songwriter Gord Downie that passed in 2016. Their music was revered as an anthem to the country of Canada...respectfully singing about both the Canadian folklore and history it has to offer. The Hip did their way. Respected in the world of music. Sarah Mclachlan is also one of the most respected female solo artists of the 1990's and 2000's and the creator of Lilith Fair. She also is Canadian. Her voice is undeniable on of the best. Please watch the 4 part series on Prime TV: The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal and also their last live show ....Man, Machine, Poem. You can find it on Youtube- Thanks for listening and remember, it's always an Unguarded Moment
Tonight we played "Stump the Chump" and our Co Host El Carpe was the .....well, with a little help...you listen and decide (he cheated, just like his golf game). We showcased eclectic, iconic, diverse brilliant singer song writers that have stood the test of time. We previewed musicians and bands from the 60's through the 90's (except for one somewhat overrated "musician/artist"). They all have unique qualities that separate themselves from everyone else heard today, literally. Our focus was to remind you of lost music that you no longer hear on the radio (thanks Bill Clinton). Who the heck listens to the radio anymore anyway. These are all a reminder of the beautiful music that is becoming more difficult to experience. Buy that vinyl and invite friends over...read your liner notes. Who are we talking about? The Pixies, REM, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance), Dave Mathews Band, Patti Smith, The Replacements (please go buy the album "Let it Be"), Queen (Rolling Stones voted number 1 band to see LIVE for nearly a decade), Carly Simon, Paul Simon, Nirvana, Sugarcubes and.....well, nevermind....not mentioning the last one. Remember, our show is never edited, rehearsed, researched...its always LIVE just like Memorex (probably too young to remember). So, dig into your parents vinyl and CD collection and give them a spin, you wont regret it. Most of today's music sucks. It's ALWAYS an unguarded moment. Thanks for listening. We might be on next week, and maybe on time, El Carpe.
SUMMER TIME ! Sure, it's almost over, but we sure wanna talk about the songs that make us remember good fun summers - listen in and see if some of these tunes take you to a fun summer event in your life's history. Join us for a fun, silly and barely informative show about SUMMER TUNES ! (or at least what we could come up with after a long weekend of sun and fun.) We talked about and listened to bands like: The Surfaris, Bananarama, Tom Tom club, Fun Boy Three, Link Wray, Eddie Cochran, The Kinks, Booker T and the MG's, the Beach Boys (of course), Katrina and the Waves, Smash Mouth, The Hollies, the Stray Cats, Oingo Boingo, and more and more Link Wray... we love them tunes. Yes, another award winning show in the can and archived in the Library of Congress. We know we left out about 396 other amazing summertime classics... but we only have so much time... hopefully we touched on some that you might like and say "holy wow, I forgot about that one" and give them another listen or seven. Thanks for joining in, and remember - to join our super schitty committee - all ya gotta to is call in, or message us during the show... "Pour Me Another Brother" - and you are part of our crew !
Music is hope. Music is peace. Music is invigorating... inspirational and soothing. Tonight, we interviewed Bruce Farrell, musician, friend, inspiration, and severe head trauma recoverer. Bruce tells us about his history in the local Detroit music scene, his passion and joy in performing his craft in front of others - and the struggle to play again when his body wouldn't let him. We barely scratched the surface of an amazing story of recovery through the love of music and performance. There is such a rich history of musical artists in Detroit. The struggles, the victories - this show barely touched on any of them - except for one man (Bruce) who's passion for the art brought him back from the brink. Give this one a solid listen. Not only is it a good story, but Eric and I were ACTUALLY almost prepared for this one. We spent more time working on this show than any show before - so that's saying something. Find Bruce here - we love him, we hope you may come to love him too. And if you do - buy some of his stuff. Bruce Farrell Music Bruce Farrell Music Information about and links to the music I play
Tonight was an amazing but slightly silly discussion about some great soundtracks for movies really give you the "mood" of the show. We certainly missed a lot of good movie soundtracks, but this is what we could come up with in such short notice. We opened with Six and the Sevens from Detroit - who may be playing their last show on 8-17-24 at the Cadieux Cafe... I'll be there - if you are in the greater Detroit area - join us ! We played music from movies like: Napoleon Dynamite, The Blues Brothers, Grosse Point Blank, Eddie & The Cruisers, Some Kind of Wonderful, Pretty In Pink, 16 Candles, The Breakfast Club... Honorable mentions of Risky Business, Repo Man, and a couple of others... As always, the Law Offices of Jamison, Walker, Statler and Walrorf have kept us out of prison for another week. Join us for another Award Winning show next week.
On tonight's award winning show - Eric quizzes El Carpe's knowledge (or lack thereof) on music intros by using a great YouTuber's show "Rick Beato - 20 best keyboard intros"- go give that Rick fella a listen - he's got a tremendous catalog of amazing shows and interviews. go here: TOP 20 KEYBOARD INTROS OF ALL TIME TOP 20 KEYBOARD INTROS OF ALL TIME Tonight we stumbled through chatting about some relaxing timeless tunes from bands like: Stereo MC's, Captain Sensible, Murray Head, the Orb, the Style Council, Billy Joel, Weezer, Robert Cray, the Lemonhead's, the Mighty Lemon Drops and likely some others not mentioned here. Join us for a romp through some records ! We tasted bands like, the Orwells, Sleepy Sun, The Walking Who, Soledad Bothers, Dum Dum Girls, Goat, Clinic, Detroit blues band, Kittie, Synthetic Ghost, The Mystery Lights, Packs (Packs song from AudioTree Live - a great source for new music), Ride and the Charlatans (UK), duh. Dangit, we had fun tonight - a bunch of friends showed up and we talked about the amazing women voices in music... thanks to our visitors (South Oz, DJ, JLow, Coach and all the others) this turned out to be another award winning show!!!! We discussed bands/singers like Lisa Gerrard, Texas (again), 4non-blondes, a busker - Allie Sherlock, (Cranberries) Cyndi Lauper, Tina Turner, Saint Etienne, Til Tuesday, Diana Ross, Heart, Elena Siegman, Lianne La Havas, the Cranberries (original), Allie Sherlock (busker), Lana Del Rey (Emilie Hanie), Eric Krasno (not a female singer)... but who are we to deny our fans of tunes?), Six and the Sevens ( El Carpe brother band) as always, join us for a in depth geological dig through some sort of musical listener generated archive... and be part of our crew with a "pour me another brother"
A soulful evening with Low Standards and whatever... Cindy Lauper, Tash Sultana, Ruthie Foster, the Heavy, Thornetta Davis, FC/Kahuna, Charles Bradley... Curtis Harding, Leon Bridges, Echo and the Bunnymen, Gary Clark Jr., Aretha Franklin ... and the Black Keys and probably more we forgot about (the show is a fluid dynamic and we can't track everything - sheesh) ... Echo Sax No 10 - and likely more amazing tunes - played and discussed... We had a few friend stop by and chime in at the very end - which is always appreciated - how else are we going to improve the show if not with input from both of our fans? our show could not continue without the contributions from the following: - Our legal assistant Misty Meanor - Our Ukranian driver - Picov Andropov - Our badjoke intrpretor - Nadia Gettit - Our Bail Bond Provider - Freida Gogh - Our Defence Attorney - Gil T. Azell - Our Divorce Attorney - Carmine Nottyours - our beverage taster - Al Coholic - Eric's Brownie Taster - Barb Ituate - Our political advisor - Stella Pain Diaz - Our Parole Officer - Willie Bolt - Our Swedish Motivational Speaker - Bjorn T' Win - author of our favorite book - "Rusty Bedsprings" - I. First time in the history of this award winning show and due to overwhelming demand...we extended our Friday evening show! This is part 2 . We continued our talks with our our listeners Dena Jo from Colorado and SouthAxman from Australia. And believe it our not...JLow was on our musicast, he's from Vermont...and not married to Ben. Anyway, thanks for listening and we'll see you next week. Maybe Thursday. Pour me another brother
Tonite was a great show, El Carpe and I broadcasted out of my garage, so we could enjoy a warm and Michigan picturesque spring evening. Cheezy I know. We had some Yuengling Black and Tans and a historic show it was...It was a time to just ketchup on what was happening in our lives and enjoy the music. In October we are attending The The & Johnny Marr / James concerts down at the Masonic Temple...so we thought it was appropriate to spin some tunes by them. We also talked about Minneapolis band The Replacements, Assemble Head and Sunburst Sound, New Candys, L.A Witch and a few others...Part 1 of 2
This show was definitely impromptu! A quick ketchup and we led into some phenomenal bands...some "up and coming", some been around for a while (1973). These were some of the bands we showcased: 1. Khruangbin and Leon Bridges: Mariella 2. Quest for Fire: The Greatest Hits by God 3. Micheal Kiwanuka: Cold Little Heart 4. Amanaz: Khala my Friend 5. The The : Sweet Birds of Truth 6. Tom Waits: Make it Rain, One last look. "Bedlem and Squalor" Along with some supporting groups: The Heavy, The Smiths, Pink Floyd references ....Just say, "Pour us another brother"
Tonight was all about moms... and a bunch of other stuff. Give us a listen as we discuss the importance of how we were raised... and well, we ran off course and rambled about all sorts of other stuff. Music was involved. We played tunes by ... Lynyard Skynard - Simple Man Texas - Everyday Now The Sundays - I Won Crash Vegas - Down to the wire Crash Vegas - more... from album Red Earth Texas - Say What you want James - Laid (acoustic) James - Say Something and a buncha Motown... some PINK if ya like... and a bunch of other songs... we had JLow join us briefly for some fun... We got moody, musically and silly - it was fun for us... hopefully will be fun for you. as always... Pour Me Another Brother. Rock on.
It's all about Detroit Blues bands, bands from Detroit that dont play the blues, just bands, bands with colors in their name, El Carpe and his exotic dancing career....it's Low Standards and Pours. Just say, "Pour me another Brother".
Tonight's show....it's the billion streamed music podcast! All the songs from the 70's until today....what songs have been streamed the most? You'll find out tonight!! Well, some of them anyway, PART 2 coming up soon!! (maybe) Elvis? Taylor Swift? Beatles? AC/DC? Queen? Travis Kelce? Journey? Who are the bands that hold these spots? (inspired by Rick Beato Podcast) Give us a listen!! Thanks to Scooter (Beans and Weenies Show) and Tommy B (Biz Meets Global) for listening in and participating, along with our thousands of listeners! You guys make our success, literally! And big love to my Co Host, El Carpe, you help make this show what it is today...it's never a dull moment dammit. (and you suck at liner notes)
One of our best shows so far! ... Thanks to Boogie and Fiddybritches we talked some new music, Kentucky and Indiana natives. (plus a Dos cameo) It's the improptu craziness you expect from two amazing professionals like us... ok - yer right, but still - we had a blast talking about the Eclipse coming up, El Carpe drinking illegal beer in Ohio with his kids, music with Eclipse references, some useless El Crape trivial news - but we still made it fun for us. We listened to some Andrew Bird-Take Courage Wizard Ink-(still searching), Moby, Manfred Man, David Bowie, Sade, Pink Floyd and Fatboy Slim. (and of course The Hangrenades and 6&7's) We had a blast making this show, hopefully you get some new music out of it. It got more interesting (to us) as the show progressed - if you can survive the first 20mins - you'll be rewarded by the rest. (maybe) NPR - Father Dad. (a short story narrated by NPR, written by a friend, definately worth a listen) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Sl237Zvw019bmnvbc4EAqW7MnDdwMBW4view that's a link to a great story... As always - be part of our mess, and say "Pour Me Another Brother" (don't forget about 'Six and the Sevens', 'The Handgrenades' and others from the local Detroit music scene... good stuff)
Unprepared, unrehearsed, unfunny? - it's the Magic Bag Show... listen in to find out why. Eric and El Carpe make up from the severe vitriol of last week's brotherly lambasting of each other... we are good now. Bands we talked about... The Verve Pipe, Speedy the Spider, Matthew Sweet, The Bangles... Eric gives us the Husker Du / Bob Mould / Sugar linkage... much more stuff too... We connect with our listener and have some mixology chats - drinks baby ! there wes a ton of fun happening tonight, at least we thought we had fun... We would like you to join us, comment and share and whatever else people to that boosts our show in the world of the All Powerful Algorithm. As always... Pour Me another brother.
Our award-winning show received another "Dishonorable Mention" as one of Michigan's many music podcasts. Our listener from all over the planet has affored us the multi-single-dollar media system (with screwdriver) and our lack of support staff keeps us streamlined and able to provide you a superiourly mediocre show. tonight's topics; SHOEGAZE - the craze that lasted less than a year ... ish... talked about Slowdive, Lush, Swervedriver, Blur, Ride, Chapterhouse... and some others. Eric's Stopify Collection - Scott Von Ryper, Khruangbn & Leon Bridges, Dandy Warhols & Debbie Harry, Jenny Lewis and Moon Duo. We had fun poking fun at each other the way brothers who like each other but don't want others to know ... Pour me another brother - cuz the mother ship is coming for El Carpe next week.
Ok, so well, maybe El Carpe is right, my intro was cancelled again by my headphones. These Apple computers are so confusing.... Quiz Night ! (maybe) - El Carpe gives Eric a test of his musical knowledge (holy carp, he passed). Here's 6 bands that had amazing debut albums... go ahead Eric, who are they???? The Police - The The - Nine Inch Nails - Dire Straights - Heart - Dandy Warhols... and we chat about why each debut album was amazing. Then there's "Eric Tunes" which all freakin' rock. We listen to stuff from bands like The Black Keys, The Inbreds, Cold Stare, Muddy Magnolias, and wait... Material Issue !?!?! yeah, we had a blast together chatting about music we love - join us for a romp through some silly and if you really like the tunes we play, don't be shy and go ahead and pay real money for the music - find the band's website and get stuff directly from the artists (it's better that way) We had a ton of fun together - we hope you enjoy our goofy and tell both of your friends about our silly show. Join us weekly-ish - call in and be part of our show - be a part of the ever-increasing volume of our amazingness - and be a Low Standards "Lowie" - call in and say "pour me another brother".
One of our three thousand fans showed up to chat with us about AMAZING debut albums by various artists... El Carpe did at least 12 minutes of research and found a large number of amazing bands for us to discuss - and most are not in his tiny bubble of the '80's New Romantics. Go figure. Old farts can change. (maybe) We had a blast chatting about Weezer, The Stone Roses, Temple of the Dog, Pearl Jam, the Cars, Fine Young Cannibals and the Smiths. There was a bunch of very specific reverence to Chris Cornell. (RIP) There was a brief discussion on Sigor Ros and Dead Ghosts - both great. We played music, chatted, basically had a great time together - give this one a listen if you wanna hear two good buddies chatting about, and playing music they love. Lower your Standards, join us for what we thought was a fun time - and be one of the three people who are not related to us who enjoy our show. As always... Pour Me Another Brother. and here's the extra... was letting youtube play after one of the many windows I had open... and this came up ... I kinda like it - and may want us to add to a show for 'something new'... ok, at least new to me. Dream Cars - Irony is a fine vacation Dream Cars - Irony is a fine vacation
Well… this was silly. (as usual) Great tunes were heard, illegible words were spoken, and a show was completed… we still don't know how this all works (old man syndrome - mostly El Carpe's fault). Tonight, we did a “reaction show” to tunes – from bands like Ride, Earl Greyhound, Hosier, Kosikk, Killing Joke and some others that may surprise you – Stone Roses and more… Eric and I enjoy chatting about tunes together – we hope you enjoy being a voyeur into our conversations about the music we like… one of these days we'll be famous (not today, obviously) and Joe Rogan will wash our feet (obvious religious overtone intended). Thanks for listening to our mess – we would appreciate any contributions to our cause if we knew how to ask for that, or how to accept it. Cash or check is fine. Contact Eric for details... somehow. “Pour me another brother”… and as always… rock on.
Ohhhh, boy....El Carpe tonight, hmmmm. All the songs are about crazy... An attempt at a light intelligent discussion about Alien/UFO/Paranormal/Spiritual...buttttt. Anyway, join us for a challenging discussion :) through some wild topics, and enjoy some "crazy" tunes. Where did this went go tonight.... El Carpe's brain gets fried... Eric gives me crap about being so horribly rational and a bit tunnel vision'd... it's a complete shitte-show ! Need to thank our 1000+ listeners tonight who barely enjoyed our rambling of show, and let us know how much you wanted to kick El Carpe in the pants with your comments somewhere ... wherever comments can be made. We might actually read and reply. (no guarantees) We do appreciate all of you who listened this evening :) See you Thursday!
We're BAAAACCCKK in the saddle again... some famous band said that a while ago... but that's us baby ! New year - new craziness - same two old coots. Join us for the "What's The Heckels Were We Thinkin'" show - if you can guess what the theme was supposed to be - you're ahead of us... Turns out we had a show in the pipe and we talked about: Bad Liquor Pond, bnny, La Hell Gang, New Candys, Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound, Thee Oh Sees, The Warlocks, Levitation Room, The Spyrals, Froth, Moon Duo, The KVB, Allah-Las, The Spits, Elephant Stone, The Black AngelsTV, New Candys, Ghost Woman, and maybe more? we lost track... oh, and this talent at "Moonic Productions"... this kid rocks... We are under the mistaken impression this was a good start to a hopefully fun and crazy year ... to be determined. Thanks to both of our fans who regularly listen to us while doing menial tasks at home - we couldn't do it without you. Pour me another brother !
Hey Eric ! Pogue Mahone ! (listen in to see what I meant by that) - tonight we honor a talented disreputable drunk who made some amazing music - and touched lives, probably on accident, but did so anyway. yes Shane MacGowan - lead singer of The Pogues. Eric throws some unique new music my way - "The Mystery Lights", and others... made me go Wow - then throws "La Hell Gang" and others at me - good stuff !... Then there's that crazy Cat Power chat... that gal has an awesome voice. We have a "Cat Power - music battle" which works well for everyone exept those of you listening... The Pogues... Shane MacGowan - if we could do a proper tribute, we would... but this show is all we can do. Thanks for listening (both of you). Rock on and "pour me another brother"
Tonight was another injustice to a great band... The Talking Heads ! We pretended to know many things, we did not. But we sure did play some cool tunes from STOP MAKING SENSE which was/is an iconic music concert movie. We forgot to say things like "this was very uniquely filmed" and "David Byrne's movements on stage were hypnotic" and stuff like that. We DID acknowledge the amazing music. Then we went off into the weeds (again) and discussed the Smiths, James, other bands and a variety of movies... so another potentially great show damaged by us actually talking to each other and having fun. Both of our listeners who are not related to us, told us this show was almost moderately interesting. Give it a listen and you be the judge. Thanks for being part of our adventure in music ! Pour Me Another Brother !
We apologize in advance. El Carpe (co host) and his 1980's technology. hey look - we are two crazy Detroiter's that decided on an impromptu chat about local Detroit music...we got a little squirrelly and had a shiite pile of fun. We talked about The Handgrenades, The Sights, The Warlocks, Boubon Squirrel - and others... closed with Six and the Sevens - "Go all night". Join us for some unscripted, unedited, unrehearsed, under technology, live commentary from 2 Detroit aged flavors - and maybe you'll hear some tunes that flip that album and maybe you'll wanna get these tunes ... Rock on and Pour Me Another Brother.
Iconic Sounds... of the not-super-famous kind. Tonight we stumble through a discussion about some really rockin' bands that maybe you haven't heard about. The Cult with Ian Astbury (who also was lead vocals for The Doors revival band), The Black Keys - with two guys on stage put forth a massive wall of sound to kick ya in the pants, Rival Suns - another rockin' band which Eric has many good things to say about, and of course - The Black Crowes - who have a unique but comfortable sound that we can all get behind. TOMMY B from Tennessee stops in to give us some energy... and crazy stories... Scooter from The Beans and Weenies Show actually stopped by and hung out for a while (probably too long for his tastes) Join us for a romp through some fun - music - silly conversation among friends... no one cried this time. (I promise) Also, no bagpipes were played in this show, no ears were damaged and there was a large pile of goofiness to be had by all. Rock on... and Pour Me Another Brother ! "
BEN Harper ! we went to see him this week and was a great show ! Join us for a discussion about the concert, and hear us go off on a tangent that somehow relates to Ben Harper... we crazy man. We stumbled upon "The Cush" from somewhere, and Volebeats (from Hamtramck)... It was fun for us making this show for ya, hopefully the two of you who are not related to us who might listen all the way through will have as much fun as we did... but that's doubtful. (I've met us) rock on and Pour Me Another Brother !
Finally... these two buddies who love music get back together to chat about stuff... Peter Gabriel was in Detroit recently and El Carpe got to go - and the two of us are going to see the Volbeats open for Ben Harper next week... will be an eclectic show ! We talk about great guitar work - started with Ben Harper, then Jeff Buckley and Leonard Cohen... then into the weeds with Merry Clayton & the Stones - gimmie shelter ! We give props to Playing for Change (great Charity) and many other emotion wrenching songs. Join us for the silly. We had a great time - hope you do too. (support your local musicians whenever possible)
Well...you heard it folks. We defined todays ERA of music. I think. What is it? We showcased The Beatles, Queen, Ziggy, Prince, Madonna, ELO and a host of other bands that defined us...50 year olds. What defines music today? Has social media damaged todays ERA? Or has it allowed songwriters to be heard without identifying with an ERA? You decide. Thanks to Lady Rebecca and Father Brian from Planet ADHD for their partcipation. Tommy B from Biz Meets Global...we'll catch you next time! Just say, Pour me another brother. See you next week! Maybe.
I like American Music... Baby. Tonight we play all sorts of great American bands - music - stuff... then we quickly roll off into the weeds - pretty much like we always do. but we had fun making this show - hope both of our listeners enjoy this one as much as we did makin' it. the law offices of Statler, Waldorf, Jamison, and other whiskey have provided us with the legal protection against copyright strikes and barely guarantee that Eric won't go to jail soon... (El Carpe is already there) Join us for a trip, slip and fall down and don't sue us please. At least three of our listeners enjoyed our show tonight... you might too - Let's have some fun chatting about American Music... This just in: Covid 19 Deroit Lions 21 I know... really? they WON ?!?!?
The Hammond B3 Organ... Instrument? Vocalist? Accent? You decide. This instrument has a FAnominal history that we barely touch upon... but we sure do chat about the songs where it's featured... It's difficult to say what popular music would be, would have become without this instrument... Enjoy some barely informational chat about this great instrument... more importantly enjoy the tunes we played tonight. Remember folks, (both of you) - You haven't paid for this, so when you're disappointed ya got nothing to complain about ! Join us for an impromptu invasion of Planet ADHD with Father Brian and Lady Rebecca on Sept 7th - we fully intend to have a ton of fun there. If ya like the 'cut of our jib' - join us again live (we'll talk to ya and stuff) next time. Thanks to both of our listeners who aren't related to us for supporting our show, and we hope we've passed the audition. (did ya get the Beatles reference? sheesh man.)
Bill's Quiz Show Part 2 is in the books! Bill spins the song you THOUGHT was the original and then he plays the original! Hard to believe all these songs were covers of an original. Alotta originals. Give us a listen and see what ya think. We're on every week, typically...so if you see us live jump on in! Pour me another brother!
QUIZ SHOW NIGHT THINGY, sorta... This one is all about trying to guess the original artist based on the Cover version that made it big(ish). There's some real gems here - only 2 turds - you figure it out and feel free to comment which ones are which. As you listen, ask yourself these things - Do you remember when you first heard the cover - And did you realize it was a cover? Please enjoy this high-quality, technically superior show that we threw together in 8 minutes with 5 toothpicks, some scraps of duct tape and a moldy sponge. We'd like to thank the Law Offices of Jamison, Walker, Statler and Waldorf for their continued support keeping us both out of prison for whatever dumb things we didn't allegedly do. Also, thank you to our listeners who are not related to us who join us on occassion - yer both the bestest. Tell all your friend about our show.
Thanks for joining in on this pile of show ! We just wanted to share the latest in whatever tunes were on Eric's mind - so here it is ! We played stuff from these bands: Singapore Sling, New Candys, Tess Parks & Anton Newcombe, The War and Treaty, Magic Shoppe, Thornetta Davis, Desert Sessions, yeah yeah yeahs and more. Join us for a romp through some good tunes. Tanks for stoppin by !
Tonight is all about that Land Down Under ! Australia has produced some amazing bands - many you know VERY well, many you don't - and we are about to introduce (or re-introduce) you to a whole bunch of great tunes... give us a listen... HEY ! Please comment on this one... If you were able to meet your favorite band ever... what are the Three Questions you would ask them... we will be interviewing many bands coming up this next year - and want your input... so do that please. We went through the 70's (The Saints, AC/DC, Cold Chisel, Skyhooks, INXS, etc..) and the 80's briefly (Divinyls, Hunters & Collectors, Nick Cave, Crowded House) the 90's (Savage Garden, Regurgitator, The Vines, The Avalanches, The Sleepy Jackson) and after that... 2000 and beyond... Jet, Cut Copy, Pendulum, Howling Bells, Wolfmother, and Empire of the Sun. Look - you don't have to like all the music we discuss... but it's totally fine to appreciate the artists. If there's something you liked hearing - go buy stuff directly from that band. Thanks for joining in on this conversation between two buddies who love music, and love talking about it. Support your local artist !
Love and Rockets, Natalie Mercant, and all sorts of other concert discussions... we got a little silly (expected) and this discussion between two buddies who love music is worth a listen. Join us for a chat about some recent concerts, life issues and all sorts of positive fun things. We appreciate both of our fans listening in and you may get a kick out of our fun show. Remember, the fun is where you find it... ususally not here. but thanks anyway ! The Law Offices of Jamison, Walker, Statler and Waldorf have approved of this podcast, and we are sorry about that.
Are your Standards Low? Join us for some Pours. This is the "Upstairs at Eric's (in the garage)" show no one has been waiting for. We discussed and played tunes from Playing for Change (sweet child of mine), The Black Angels, The Ravonettes, La Hell Gang, Welshy Arms, The Black Keys, Rival Sons and likely some other stuff we forgot to write down. We are Unprofessional, Unprepared, Unplanned and trying way too hard to please both our fans who are not related to us. Thanks for listening ! back on thursdays at 8:30 EST
This show was all about friends, fun and music... and within 3mins it got weird. So pretty much like all our other shows. Tommy B joins us from the road in EL PASO - so we played a relevant song... and then a buncha fun other trucking songs! In the background we had El Carpe's playlist stuff... "ZiLENTNOIZE xxx" find this guy on the tubes of you, or googlay - great mixes, great tunes (according to El Carpe) - just a good hour each of click, play, listen - and do the stuff you do when you do that thing listening to music like you do. Shows coming soon - Eric's Playlist, Listener Questions & Comments, Upstairs at Eric's (downstairs) - we'll explain later... and of course the never requested, and often lamented "El Carpe's Playlist". We'll keep you updated on the upcoming silly ! Pour Me Another Brother !
Welcome back from our crazy winter break ! Tonight we talk about all sorts of stuff - music, moving, stories,... it got a little weird - but it's us, so what do you expect? Playing for Change... look that up, listen, and buy a high quality t-shirt if you like the message and cause. We had a romp through "Eric's Playlist" - including The Gories, Welshy Arms, mygut, Flat Duo Jets, Giant Drag and many others. There was that interlude about El Carpe's "finding the family" story - and we'll keep you abreast of any developments there... Thanks for joining our bit of silly, and the traipsing through our musical shennanegans... We appreciate both of you, and hope we passed the audition. Pour me another Brother.
“The Romantics... whatever happened to these chart-toppers of the early 80's? Here's a small chunk of the story. (as much as we could be bothered to "research") Also, we have our long-standing, super-popular segment where we take a brief peek into "Eric's Playlist". Tonight we play some tunes, make up some history based on mostly facts we are almost aware of, and then stuff happens… We played a ton of The Romantics music tonight, and stumbled drunkenly down memory lane - but our horrible attempt at crafting a show that totally respects this band's talent and artistic flair... failed miserably - so here's the band's website - if you like, liked, will like, want or will want anything Romantics related - go here and exchange your real money for their real merchandise/music/etc. It's all about rewarding the artists for their efforts that affect our lives. https://www.romanticsdetroit.com/ Eric's Playlist included: Longwave "Wake me when it's over"; Bear In Heaven "Autumn" and a 90's classic underground tune by Kitchens of Distinction "Drive That Fast". Here's your musical zen thought of the week that El Carpe rattled off during the show: "Music and songs have different meanings to different people - but as long as it inspires thought, feeling, or emotion - it's worth it. Even if you interpret the artists message wrong - your brain got exercise. buy some songs, give them two braincells a workout." Join our super-schitty-secret committee... "the Inebriatti" - all ya gotta do is type in comments during the show "Pour Me Another Brother" and you're in. there's no test, no initiation, no membership fee... we have Low Standards... duh."
ERIC'S PLAYLIST ! ! ! Girl... I'm just a Jeepster for your love... holy wow this show went off the rails early - and we did that for your entertainment only... Tommy B from Tennessee showed up to give us his take on Eric's playlist, along with El Carpe's drunken mumblings - we hear from bands like (no actually) Mr Airplane Man, The Veils, Magic Shoppe, Ghost Woman, Lord Huron, The Spyrals, La Hell Gang, Lightnin' Hopkins, The Koolaid Electric Company, and Al Lover... yep - El Carpe gives his critique of Eric's playlist and it's fun as all get out. (at least to us, and we have Low Standards) Look folks, this is always unplanned, unprofessional and unscripted - live reactions to music - it's really two buddies talkin' about the tunes they like - if you wanna listen in, we totally welcome you. Music is to be shared. Music is to be enjoyed with others... Music can save the planet... ok, maybe just enjoyed & shared - but seriously - we hope you enjoy this show as much as we have fun making it for you. Join our super secret schitty committee = just say "pour me another brother" and you are in - remember, we have Low Standards... doesn't take much to be one of us. rock on.
