The Constitutional Authority to Deploy National Guard to Protect Federal Facilities Guest: Professor John Yoo Professor John Yoo discusses the President's inherent constitutional authority to use the National Guard to protect federal property and personnel during city disorder. Drawing on the In re Neagle case from 1890, Yoo confirms the federal government's right to use force to execute its functions on American soil. He argues that governors opposing deployment are resisting federal law enforcement, akin to segregationists resisting integration. Yoo clarifies that states can adopt "sanctuary" policies by choosing not to cooperate with federal law, but they cannot constitutionally impede federal agents from carrying out their duties.

On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I dive into the difference between what's inherent in us -and- what we've inherited from the world around us. I share how we sometimes confuse the two - taking on beliefs, stories, and even problems that were passed down to us, and then we start thinking that those things are just “who we are.” Nope! The truth is, there's a wicked big difference between what's built into us at our natural core and what we pick up along the way. I talk about how being a Spiritual Being is something that's inherent - like that sucker comes "factory installed" - meaning it's just part of who we are, like our goodness, worthiness, and belonging. On the flip side, there's some stuff like religion, beliefs about money, our eye-color, or even things like self-doubt that are often inherited from our families, culture, or society. One of the big takeaways is the importance of questioning the stories and beliefs we've inherited, especially the ones that don't serve us, or don't align us with our true nature! So, I encourage you to pause and ask yourself, "What's really mine, and what did I just pick up from someone elseoutside of me?"This kind of self-reflection is a key part of personal growth and spiritual awareness. At the end of the day, I want you to remember that you are inherently good, lovable, and worthy - no matter what you've been told, what you've believed in the past, or what you've inherited. This episode is a little love letter to remind you of your true Self and to inspire you to let go of what doesn't belong to you anymore or maybe never did! Thanks so much for listening, and may you go out into the world remembering who you really are! ❤️ KK'S KEY TAKEAWAYS:• Inherent qualities are the essential, unchangeable parts of who we are, like our goodness, worthiness, and belonging.• Inherited beliefs, stories, and traits come from our families, culture, and society, and are not always true about us and our real selves.• It's important to question the ideas and narratives we've inherited, especially if they don't align with our true nature. Because shit often rolls downhill.• We're all inherently spiritual beings, connected to Love, Source, God, or the Divine, regardless of what we've been told about our limited ego-personality selves.• Much of our self-doubt and negative self-talk comes from inherited stories from our younger years, often from people who weren't emotionally intelligent at the time.• Personal growth and spiritual awareness take place when we start to get curious and reflect on what's truly ours and are willing to let go of what's not.• Remembering our inherent goodness, beauty, and belonging helps us live more authentically, joyfully, and compassionately. Peace is something that we long for in our world and in our lives. The Biblical concept of peace reaches far into our lives seeking a sense of wholeness and completeness. Inherent is a sense of confidence and rest in God's presence and control. Peace is a gift of God to his followers and can be experienced through engaging with Him. The steps to deep, abiding peace are: praying continually, entrusting life & circumstances to God, abiding communion with Jesus, cultivating a heart of gratitude, and extending forgiveness to others.

This week Founding Pastor/Pastor Emeritus Stan Mitchell talked about what is, arguably, the single most important shift in Christian thinking in the past two+ centuries: the move away from Inherent Separation (meaning the idea that we are born separated from God) as our starting point, and the shift toward Inherent Union (meaning that we are born connected in and to God). Quilter Vendulka Battais shares her healing journey from realizing that external validation (including winning awards) made her happy, but didn't bring her ultimate fulfillment, she still needed to find her own inner worth and peace. She explores how her upbringing in communist Czechoslovakia and ancestral patterns influenced her sense of self-worth and her creative approach to quilting.• Growing up during communism in the Czech Republic shaped Vendulka's resourcefulness and creativity• Moving to the UK at age 24 with English as her second language became an unexpected advantage in her quilting pattern instructions• Winning quilt competitions didn't bring the fulfillment she expected, revealing her pattern of seeking external validation• Ancestral patterns from Czech history influenced her tendency to overgive and put her worth in others' hands• Through theta healing and meditation, she learned to find value within herself rather than from external achievements• Understanding that we're only responsible for our own happiness helps break patterns of people-pleasing and overgiving• Finding peace requires facing uncomfortable truths and being honest with yourself• The healing journey is ongoing - slips back into old patterns become smaller and less frequent with practice• Every cloud has a silver lining - learning not to immediately judge experiences as good or bad opens us to unexpected giftsIf you've enjoyed this episode, please share it with a friend who might benefit, leave a review on your podcast platform, and check out Vendulka's quilted jacket class:https://www.craftymonkies.com/live-zoom-workshop-vendulka-battais-121025-fashionable-quilted-jacket-and-210326-intricate-curvFollow Vendulka on Instagram @vendulkaolivenWant to reach out? The episode opens with Bhatt framing the global stakes: from drones on the battlefield to AI-powered early warning systems, militaries worldwide are racing to integrate AI, often citing strategic necessity in volatile security environments. Mohan underscores that AI in conflict cannot be characterized in a single way, applications range from decision-support systems and logistics to disinformation campaigns and border security. The conversation explores two categories of AI-related risks:Inherent risks: design flaws, bias in datasets, adversarial attacks, and human–machine trust calibration.Applied risks: escalation through miscalculation, misuse in targeting, and AI's role as a force multiplier for nuclear and cyber threats. On governance, Mohan explains the fragmentation of current disarmament processes, where AI intersects with multiple regimes, nuclear, cyber, conventional arms, yet lacks a unified framework. She highlights ongoing debates at the UN's Group of Governmental Experts (GGE) on LAWS, where consensus has been stalled over definitions, human-machine interaction, and whether regulation should be voluntary or treaty-based.International humanitarian law (IHL) remains central, with discussions focusing on how principles like distinction, proportionality, and precaution can apply to autonomous systems. Mohan also emphasizes a “life-cycle approach” to weapon assessment, extending legal and ethical oversight from design to deployment and decommissioning.A significant portion of the conversation turns to gender and bias, an area Mohan has advanced through her research at UNIDIR. She draws attention to how gendered and racial biases encoded in AI systems can manifest in conflict, stressing the importance of diversifying participation in both technology design and disarmament diplomacy.Looking forward, Mohan cites UN Secretary-General António Guterres's call for a legally binding instrument on autonomous weapons by 2026. She argues that progress will depend on multi-stakeholder engagement, national strategies on AI, and confidence-building measures between states. The episode closes with a reflection on the future of warfare as inseparable from governance innovation—shifting from arms reduction to resilience, capacity-building, and responsible innovation.Episode ContributorsShimona Mohan is an associate researcher on Gender & Disarmament and Security & Technology at UNIDIR in Geneva, Switzerland. Use it showcase character traits that show up in intimate times. What do I want to portray in this scene? 1. Goal (character development) (ex: kindness? Make a list of how to showcase kindness.) 2. True to self 3. True to character (make a list of words that are appropriate)(Are they seasoned lovers or innocent?) Fight scenes and sex scenes have some similarities. Common mistakes: Boring, gloss over, not relevant What makes a good sex scene? Humanize the character Describe details without words that shock you or take you out of the story. Natural. Aligned with personal experience. Don't feel the speed bump going into the scene. Follow the Golden Rules of writing just as you would in any other scene. Use the same language in the spicy scenes as the rest of the book. Shorter sentences in action scenes. Sure. But use the same type of language. Go through the process of char dev for a reason. Know your character. It pays off when you get to the more complicated scenes (fight, action, sex). Inherent traits. Did I stay true to this character? Did I learn something about a character? Nice place to set up the psychology of a character. Vulnerable scenes are where we learn about the character. Character insight no where else. What about flashbacks in the scene? (Sentence of thought, convey emotions/doubt) Getting feedback on spicy scenes: assess the comfort levels of critique partners, warn ahead of time, what's the best way to send this to you. Make it part of your group culture. Romantasy (fantasy with a strong romantic plot); The Chalice and the Blade series (romantic fantasy)(instead of fantastical romance); tough marketing term because romantasy doesn't necessarily have an HEA. Spice levels up front in marketing copy. Keywords: romantic fantasy Be proud of your sex scenes. It's okay to explore it. In this episode, we're diving into the the second word I found repeated over and over again in reference to women — how it's woven into who we are as daughters of God, how it shows up in scripture, and why it's so needed in the world right now. We'll explore some beautiful symbolism from the parable of the ten virgins, talk about what it means to “trim your lamp,” and how to use your unique gifts, experiences, and covenants to truly shine with Christ's light. Whether you're a mom, single, newly discovering your identity, or just needing some encouragement — this one's for YOU.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Why is Torah study prohibited on Tisha B'Av? Is it because it brings joy to the learner, or because it is inherently classified as an act of joy (maaseh simcha)? This episode explores the core machlokes between Rav Meir and Rav Yehudah, revealing two foundational approaches to the nature of Torah and its place in mourning.
The insured's kitchen sink wasn't draining well. A plumber scoped the line and found tree roots blocking it. The only fix is to dig up and replace the pipe. The adjuster checked the HO3 (2011) exclusions but didn't find one specifically for tree roots. Do others apply? Notable Timestamps [ 00:45 ] – The adjuster checks the ISO HO3 (2011) policy but finds no explicit exclusion for damage caused by tree roots. [ 04:44 ] – Tree root damage exclusions can exist in some policies, but are rare. If clearly written, they're usually enforceable. [ 05:30 ] – Lacking that, adjusters must look at general exclusions. The team explores all possibilities, including wear and tear, inherent vice, and non-fortuitous loss. [ 06:14 ] – Does wear and tear apply? Tree root intrusion may be interpreted as gradual, expected deterioration, not sudden damage. [ 07:14 ] – "Insurance covers risks, not costs." Damage expected to happen over time (like root growth) may fall outside coverage. [ 10:12 ] – Earth movement was suggested as an exclusion. It's debatable whether tree roots pushing soil could qualify as "earth movement." [ 12:08 ] – Inherent vice is another possible exclusion, if pipe failure resulted from defective materials rather than external damage. [ 13:03 ] – Faulty maintenance or neglect may apply if the homeowner ignored known tree root issues or failed to maintain the system. [ 14:01 ] – If pipe damage is covered, costs to dig up the lawn may also be covered as part of the repair. [ 15:00 ] – But if the loss is excluded, tear-out costs likely aren't covered unless tied to investigation or specifically included. [ 16:04 ] – The bottom line: coverage depends on facts, foreseeability, and exclusions. Without a tree root exclusion, outcomes are uncertain. Laten we beginnen… The Sadducees, a group ofJewish leaders who do not believe in angels, resurrection, or spirits pose a hypothetical question about a man who marries a woman and dies, andaccording to the law of Moses, his brother must marry her. Seven brothers endup marrying this woman, all die without children, and the Sadducees ask, inheaven, if there is a resurrection, which one of these men will she be marriedto? They think they have Jesus in a dilemma, but He answers them. InMatthew 22:29, Matthew records Jesus immediate response to their question. Jesussaid, "You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power ofGod." Jesus points out their ignorance of the Scriptures and the power ofGod. They only recognize the first five books of Moses, while Jesusacknowledges all 39 books of the Old Testament in the Septuagint (the Greek translationof the Old Testament available in the time of Jesus). Yet even from the Law ofMoses, Jesus affirms there is a resurrection. Asa young pastor, I sometimes preached at funerals, stood by the casket, andsaid, "This is just a body." I wish I could go back and tell thosedear people I was wrong. God created us individually, uniquely, with a body wewill live in for eternity. Your spirit, soul, and body are eternal in a sense.According to Scripture, such as Job 14:14; 19:25-27; Psalms 16:9-10; 17:15; Isaiah26:19; Ezekiel 37; and Daniel 12:2, the bodies of both the lost and the savedwill be resurrected one day. These bodies will either go to heaven or to aneternal lake of fire, where they will be tormented day and night forever. Jesusand the Bible teach this truth. My friend, Jesus believed that God has thepower to raise us from the dead. Inheaven, we will have glorified bodies, with no need for procreation. Regardingthe Sadducees' question about the seven brothers, I've always thought after thethird or fourth brother, I'd say, "I'm not marrying her; I'm not takingthe chance of dying like the rest!" When we question Scripture and try tofigure it out logically, we miss the point and like the Sadducees we will misinterpretand wrongly apply the Scripture to our lives. ButJesus went beyond logic and referred them to the Word of God, particularly whathappened to Moses as recorded in Exodus 3. There God identified Himself withAbraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and thus affirmed that these three patriarchs werevery much alive. But if they were alive, then they were "out of thebody," for they had died (James 2:26). There must be a real world ofspirit beings or Moses would not have written these words. (By the way, Mosesalso affirmed the existence of angels: Genesis 19:1, 15; 28:12; 32:1.) ButJesus is also basically saying that Exodus 3:6, 15-16 teaches not only thetruth of life after death but also the reality of the resurrection. In whatway? Not by direct statement but by inference. God is the God of the wholeperson—spirit, soul, and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23), because He created thewhole person. He does not simply "save our souls" and ignore the restof our being. Inherent in the very nature of God's creative act is His concernfor the total person. Hence, He will not keep us disembodied spirits foreverbut will give us glorious bodies to match our heavenly perfection. ForGod's covenant promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to be fulfilled, they willneed resurrected bodies to rule and reign with Him in the millennial reign ofJesus Christ. We have something to look forward to. God knows our future. Ilove what Job says in Job chapter 19, verses 25-26: "For I know that myRedeemer lives, and He shall stand on the earth. And after my skin isdestroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God." Godis not the God of the dead, but of the living and He made us whole—soul, spirit, and body—and He knows how to take care of all of them. Godbless!

By Tim Martens - The Book of Micah reveals to us that when Jesus returns to earth to reign, everyone will sit under his own vine and his own fig tree. Inherent in having your own property and produce is the need for personal responsibility.
Dr. Crane shows how Jesus had authority in how he called people, taught people, cast out demons, and healed people.
The pharmaceutical establishment knows lifestyle is the key to reversing chronic disease- but there is no money in reversing it. But keeping it chronic so that people need the drugs, now that's the ticket. Yes, diet and lifestyle works but you get 5 dollars for lifestyle research, but you can $150 million for drugs that have payback. Inherent bias. Follow the money. I know as a dietitian, insurance companies would reimburse about as much as a fast food worker wage- no money in that. When you can prescribe statins, surgery, 3-4 or 15 drugs, all the things the medical infrastructure is designed for, the profit is extraordinary.
The nature and purpose of the human body was once considered obvious. But it has come under attack from secular culture in some strange and even disturbing ways in recent years. Now, unfortunately, it is up for grabs. The Word on Fire Institute sought to address this confusion surrounding the body at our recent Wonder Conference, “Nature and the Human Body.” Drawing on rich theological, philosophical, scientific, medical, moral, political, technological, and artistic resources, the conference sought to reclaim an authentic understanding and deep appreciation for the body—its resilience and fragility, its joys and its sufferings, its transcendence and its temporality, and, above all, its wonder. A listener asks how Catholics should think about near-death experiences and stories. 00:00 | Intro 01:23 | Hosting the Wonder Conference in Bishop Barron's own diocese 02:25 | Why we needed Wonder 03:50 | Understanding the false dichotomy of faith and science 06:20 | Addressing the question of body/soul unity 12:38 | Inherent dangers in dividing body and soul 15:36 | Can Catholic ministries give platforms to evolutionary biologists? 17:11 | Highlights from Dr. Heather Heying's Wonder talk 18:45 | Beginning with the logos and intelligibility 20:04 | The human difference 21:04 | Bishop Barron Presents: liturgical artist Jonathan Pageau 23:06 | Materialism as an incoherent philosophy vs. scientific worldview 26:30 | The intelligibility of creation 27:36 | Fr.
