Hosted by Dr. Sarah Hensley, Specialized Social Psychologist, Attachment Theory Expert, and Founder & CEO of The Love Doc Relationship Coaching Services with Co-host Raina Butcher, Owner/CEO of Joyful Consulting, LLC. Welcome to "The Love Doc Podcast" where Host Dr. Sarah Hensley and her co-host Raina Butcher dive deep into the intricacies of love, attraction, attachment, relationships, and self-awareness. Dr. Hensley brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to help listeners navigate the complexities of modern romance. In each episode, Dr. Hensley tackles burning questions about love, relationships, and the mind's complexities, drawing from her psychological research, real-life experiences, and her own individual expertise, to provide insightful perspectives and practical advice.Episode 51 – The High Cost of Low StandardsIn this deeply personal and powerful episode, Dr. Sarah Hensley explores a truth most of us don't want to admit but absolutely need to hear: settling for less than we deserve in our romantic lives doesn't just hurt emotionally—it impacts us psychologically, physically, and even spiritually. “The High Cost of Low Standards” isn't just about dating someone who doesn't check every box. It's about the real toll relational self-abandonment takes on our nervous system, our self-worth, and our ability to thrive.Dr. Hensley dives into the science of relational trauma, sharing how repeatedly tolerating disrespect, inconsistency, or emotional unavailability can lead to chronic stress responses in the body. Elevated cortisol, sleep disturbances, and even autoimmune flare-ups are common for clients who've lived for years in relationships that keep them in a perpetual state of anxiety. You'll hear relatable examples from both host who developed digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, and chronic fatigue—all stemming from the emotional labor of loving someone who wasn't loving them back. Both of them still struggling after almost ten years of deep dived healing work. Research from the fields of psychoneuroimmunology and attachment science backs this up: unhealthy relationships literally make us sick.Dr. Hensley breaks down how unresolved attachment wounds, particularly from childhood, can subconsciously condition us to lower the bar and internalize the belief that bare minimum is all we're worthy of. She speaks candidly about how early templates of love—whether from an emotionally immature parent or a chaotic home environment—can train our nervous systems to find familiarity in dysfunction. And when we don't heal those internal blueprints, we keep recreating them in adult partnerships, confusing chaos for chemistry and silence for safety. As always, Dr. Hensley ends with both compassion and a call to action. You are never stuck. Your nervous system may be wired for survival, but it can be rewired for secure love. You can raise your standards without fear of losing connection—because what's truly meant for you won't be threatened by your growth. Whether you've been chronically undervalued or simply unsure how to ask for more, this episode will remind you: it's not too late to choose better. Healing is available, and so is the kind of love that doesn't cost you your peace.Tune in to "The Love Doc Podcast" every Tuesday morning for candid conversations, expert guidance, and a deeper understanding of life, love and relationships in the modern world. When God calls us out, it's not to shame us—it's to shape us. In this message, Pastor Josh unpacks the story of Eli and his sons to show how misplaced priorities in parenting and leadership can quietly erode everything God's trying to build in our lives. But even in correction, there's grace—if we'll let God's conviction turn into course correction. Parents, leaders, believers: it's time to ask, “What am I honoring more than Him?”If you're new to Harbor or want to get connected in any way click this link to get your New Here gift, find upcoming events or get involved!https://harborchurch.com/connect

We touched on Tears For Fears - . it was fun and we gave the props to a band that rocked the world in the 80s and 90s. ... if you want ACTUAL facts - look up "Professor of Rock - Tears for Fears" on youtube or Rick Beato -they both do an excellent job…but we hope you enjoy our take on the band.   Also - there is a quiz - can you guess the theme thing ... El Carpe tries to stump Eric (who kills it and solved this easily) - but can you?  Listen in - see if you can find the thread that ties these songs/bands together.    Also, we showcased the Pixies, songs from Trompe le Monde   Thanks for joining us in our impromptu podcast…through musical fun and silly chat between two buddies who just love music.  Remember, our show is never rehearsed and always LIVE - we had fun tonight and hope you do too.  Oh man them horns... !  "I love you baby!"   Bring on the fun - Bring on the tunes.  Join our super secret club - all ya gotta do is listen live and type into the chat "pour me another brother" - you're in !     U2 - Ya... they freakin' rock - look up U2 + gospel choir - I still haven't found what I'm looking for - for an emotional video. The Kinks. super influential band and overall great on their own... Who did they influence, inspire and what bands took their simple and creative rockin' vibe and made it their own and ran with it?    Tonight, Eric and I make a feeble attempt at honoring the band and whom they influenced.  Sure was a fun time, with great tunes.   Join in for the silliness and the music.   We found these bands as influenced by the Kinks:  The Romantics, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Velvet Underground, Jane's Addiction, David Bowie, The Beach Boys, Camper Van Beethoven the Magic Shoppe, The Frowning Clouds, The Jam, the Knack, and the Pretenders and we finished with Killing Joke.   Did we hit the mark?  Were there other bands you can think of that we didn't address you feel should have been included?  Let us know - we'll follow up because we are that desparate.   Thanks both of you for showing up and joining in to our world-class, award winning show.

LA Witch... great tunes, inspired another award approaching show by us... we played some songs by this LA 'garage' band that made a name for themselves in the clubs and have quite the dedicated following.  Once we got started it spun off into a "hey, this other band has a similar sound... dontcha think?"... and it went off into the silly fun chatty stuff we do so well ... like 2 sugared up kids at the park.     Other bands we played tonight:   Yannis & the Yaw, Nirvana, Mazzy Star, the Misfits, Surfin Dead Boys, Messer Chups, Death Valley Girls, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Warm Drag and the Cramps... and likely others.   Some new friends and old friends chime in to this Award Winning Show (hey, "participation ribbon" is an award) presented by idiots (me & Eric) and enjoyed by thousands.   We had a bundle of fun - hope you do to listening to two buddies mince words and play tunes.   You can be part of our Super Secret Schitty Committee - next time we are on - call in and say "Pour Me Another Brother" for fun and prizes.  This underwear isn't getting any newer.  (that's an inside joke?  "yeah, in your PANTS")  - what are we ... eight?

The first in its entirety "Ensoulment" and the 2nd set from all their classics, including: Sweet Birds of Truth, Infected, GIANT and Uncertain Smile. A concert that will go down into the record books as one most respected and enjoyed.  Remember, you never paid for any of this...its always LIVE and unrehearsed and unedited. THE QUIZ SHOW !  Tonight El Carpe gets back at Eric with a "guess the theme" show - 8 songs all have something in common.  The hints are useless.  Listen in to see if Eric gets it or not.   ERIC messes with El Carpe in a paragraph of song titles... can you follow along and get the list of bands?  Dena Jo and El Carpe do their best to figure this out... how did you do?   We also featured some tunes from Yannis & the Yaw - like - Walk through Fire and a couple others.  El Carpe heard an amazing interview with Yannis on NPR this week and this music is a bit addictive...  your thoughts?      The Law Offices of Jamison, Walker, Statler and Waldorf have approved of this show (barely) and the 'disclaimer' indicates that we are claiming FAIR USE and just playing tunes because we want you to go out and support the artists we talk about - if you want to - buy their stuff if you like it.     As always, you can join our super schitty committee by typing in our live show "Pour Me Another Brother" --  you don't get anything except recognition of your awesomeness... but that's something - right?   Remember, you haven't paid for this... so when it's disappointing - you've nothing to complain about.

Tonight we played "Stump the Chump" and our Co Host El Carpe was the .....well, with a little help...you listen and decide (he cheated, just like his golf game). We showcased eclectic, iconic, diverse brilliant singer song writers that have stood the test of time. We previewed musicians and bands from the 60's through the 90's (except for one somewhat overrated "musician/artist"). They all have unique qualities that separate themselves from everyone else heard today, literally. Our focus was to remind you of lost music that you no longer hear on the radio (thanks Bill Clinton). Who the heck listens to the radio anymore anyway. These are all a reminder of the beautiful music that is becoming more difficult to experience. Buy that vinyl and invite friends over...read your liner notes. Who are we talking about?  The Pixies, REM, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance), Dave Mathews Band, Patti Smith, The Replacements (please go buy the album "Let it Be"), Queen (Rolling Stones voted number 1 band to see LIVE for nearly a decade), Carly Simon, Paul Simon, Nirvana, Sugarcubes and.....well, nevermind....not mentioning the last one. Remember, our show is never edited, rehearsed, researched...its always LIVE just like Memorex (probably too young to remember). So, dig into your parents vinyl and CD collection and give them a spin, you wont regret it. Most of today's music sucks. It's ALWAYS an unguarded moment. Thanks for listening. We might be on next week, and maybe on time, El Carpe.

Music is hope. Music is peace. Music is invigorating... inspirational and soothing.   Tonight, we interviewed Bruce Farrell, musician, friend, inspiration, and severe head trauma recoverer.  Bruce tells us about his history in the local Detroit music scene, his passion and joy in performing his craft in front of others - and the struggle to play again when his body wouldn't let him.   We barely scratched the surface of an amazing story of recovery through the love of music and performance.     There is such a rich history of musical artists in Detroit.  The struggles, the victories - this show barely touched on any of them - except for one man (Bruce) who's passion for the art brought him back from the brink.     Give this one a solid listen.  Not only is it a good story, but Eric and I were ACTUALLY almost prepared for this one.  We spent more time working on this show than any show before - so that's saying something.   Find Bruce here - we love him, we hope you may come to love him too. One of our best shows so far! ... Thanks to Boogie and Fiddybritches we talked some new music, Kentucky and Indiana natives. (plus a Dos cameo)   It's the improptu craziness you expect from two amazing professionals like us... ok - yer right, but still - we had a blast talking about the Eclipse coming up, El Carpe drinking illegal beer in Ohio with his kids, music with Eclipse references, some useless El Crape trivial  news - but we still made it fun for us.  We listened to some Andrew Bird-Take Courage Wizard Ink-(still searching), Moby, Manfred Man, David Bowie, Sade, Pink Floyd and Fatboy Slim. (and of course The Hangrenades and 6&7's)   We had a blast making this show, hopefully you get some new music out of it.  It got more interesting (to us) as the show progressed - if you can survive the first 20mins - you'll be rewarded by the rest. (maybe)   NPR - Father Dad. (a short story narrated by NPR, written by a friend, definately worth a listen) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Sl237Zvw019bmnvbc4EAqW7MnDdwMBW4view   that's a link to a great story...        As always - be part of our mess, and say "Pour Me Another Brother"   (don't forget about 'Six and the Sevens', 'The Handgrenades' and others from the local Detroit music scene... good stuff)

Our award-winning show received another "Dishonorable Mention" as one of Michigan's many music podcasts.   Our listener from all over the planet has affored us the multi-single-dollar media system (with screwdriver) and our lack of support staff keeps us streamlined and able to provide you a superiourly mediocre show.   tonight's topics; SHOEGAZE - the craze that lasted less than a year ... ish... talked about Slowdive, Lush, Swervedriver, Blur, Ride, Chapterhouse... and some others.       Eric's Stopify Collection - Scott Von Ryper, Khruangbn & Leon Bridges, Dandy Warhols & Debbie Harry, Jenny Lewis and Moon Duo.   We had fun poking fun at each other the way brothers who like each other but don't want others to know ...     Pour me another brother - cuz the mother ship is coming for El Carpe next week.

Either way is evidence of the lack of self-love and inner peace. If you're a person with low or no standards it will show in your choices, decisions, what you allow, and what you accept. Love isn't love when it's forced, abusive, disrespectful, shameful, etc. It's not love when it's based on superficial things. When standards are low or nonexistent it will show. All you want is the person's love, but love isn't what you're getting.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/relationship-chronicles--4126439/support.

Ok, so well, maybe El Carpe is right, my intro was cancelled again by my headphones. These Apple computers are so confusing....   Quiz Night !  (maybe) - El Carpe gives Eric a test of his musical knowledge (holy carp, he passed).      Here's 6 bands that had amazing debut albums... go ahead Eric, who are they????   The Police - The The - Nine Inch Nails - Dire Straights - Heart - Dandy Warhols...  and we chat about why each debut album was amazing.   Then there's "Eric Tunes" which all freakin' rock.  We listen to stuff from bands like The Black Keys, The Inbreds, Cold Stare, Muddy Magnolias, and wait... Material Issue !?!?!     yeah, we had a blast together chatting about music we love - join us for a romp through some silly and if you really like the tunes we play, don't be shy and go ahead and pay real money for the music - find the band's website and get stuff directly from the artists (it's better that way)   We had a ton of fun together - we hope you enjoy our goofy and tell both of your friends about our silly show.    Join us weekly-ish - call in and be part of our show - be a part of the ever-increasing volume of our amazingness - and be a Low Standards "Lowie"  -  call in and say "pour me another brother".

One of our three thousand fans showed up to chat with us about AMAZING debut albums by various artists... El Carpe did at least 12 minutes of research and found a large number of amazing bands for us to discuss - and most are not in his tiny bubble of the '80's New Romantics.  Go figure.  Old farts can change. (maybe)   We had a blast chatting about Weezer, The Stone Roses, Temple of the Dog, Pearl Jam, the Cars, Fine Young Cannibals and the Smiths.   There was a bunch of very specific reverence to Chris Cornell. (RIP)     There was a brief discussion on Sigor Ros and Dead Ghosts - both great.   We played music, chatted, basically had a great time together - give this one a listen if you wanna hear two good buddies chatting about, and playing music they love.   Lower your Standards, join us for what we thought was a fun time - and be one of the three people who are not related to us who enjoy our show.   As always... Pour Me Another Brother.   and here's the extra... was letting youtube play after one of the many windows I had open... and this came up ... I kinda like it - and may want us to add to a show for 'something new'... ok, at least new to me.   Dream Cars - Irony is a fine vacation       Dream Cars - Irony is a fine vacation

Well… this was silly. (as usual) Great tunes were heard, illegible words were spoken, and a show was completed… we still don't know how this all works (old man syndrome - mostly El Carpe's fault).  Tonight, we did a “reaction show” to tunes – from bands like Ride, Earl Greyhound, Hosier, Kosikk, Killing Joke and some others that may surprise you – Stone Roses and more… Eric and I enjoy chatting about tunes together – we hope you enjoy being a voyeur into our conversations about the music we like… one of these days we'll be famous (not today, obviously) and Joe Rogan will wash our feet (obvious religious overtone intended). Thanks for listening to our mess – we would appreciate any contributions to our cause if we knew how to ask for that, or how to accept it.   Cash or check is fine.  Contact Eric for details... somehow. “Pour me another brother”… and as always… rock on.
