Hard to believe it's already been a year and a half since the last time I was able to connect with Ian Strimbeck. If any of you have been keeping up with Ian and his work with Rune Nation, you know that he's a dedicated dude, with a strong mindset and a determined attitude. That's exactly why, in this weeks discussion, he and I sit down to talk about our opinions and feelings on our community, self development, and personal accountability. We talk at length about discomfort, complacency, self-reliance, dedication, and desire. Certainly one of the deeper conversations I've been fortunate to have here on the pod, but there's a lot to take away from this discussion. We've all likely heard it before: if you're not fit, you're going to die. If that's the stick, what does the carrot of physical conditioning look like? Some respond well to the stick, others to the carrot, so it can be argued that a good combination of both go a whole lot further.Ian Strimbeck is the man behind RuneNation, providing training, philosophy, and if you search right, thought crimes.Ian Strimbeck can be found on Instagram at: @runenationllcCheck out his writing and classes at runenationllc.comSupport the REDACTED Culture Cast at redactedculture.locals.comSSP and boutique products at redactedllc.comFollow us on Instagram at @redactedllc
We're all familiar with the Rat Race in Gun Culture. Call it Keeping Up with the Jones if you want, but the effect extends beyond gear. Got a rifle? Now you need to train with it. Train with your rifle? Now you need a plate carrier, then NODs, then lock picks, then radios and on and on and on. At the same time, contentment can look an awful lot like complacency. Discernment will be necessary. Whether you're familiar with Ian Strimbeck's 'Thought Crimes' or considering the multiple benefits of practicing Jui-Jitsu, RuneNation represents an evolution in training, as instructors continue to move beyond the flat range. We cover some of the issues with the way veterans expect the military to handle their departure, and how the society that we live in can be actively working against our desires to be more self sufficient. Ian Strimbeck's approach to training can be a breath of fresh air in a subject that suffers from stagnation, but that's not the end of it. Instead of simply presenting a new coat of paint, we engage with more than the new trends. Ian Strimbeck is the owner and founder of Rune Nation LLC. In this episode, Ian and I sit down and discuss the training mindset, and why it's so important that we not only protect it, but share it and teach it to those within our community. We had a fascinating philosophical discussion about things like failure, personal limits, resiliency, endurance, education, culture and even more. Rune Nations motto is, "No one is coming to save you" and it's in pursuit of that personal accountability and survivability that they instruct others, and share their knowledge. This was certainly a deeply enlightening and enjoyable discussion for myself, and I'm sure you're all going to enjoy it as well!

About Ian Strimbeck and Rune Nation "My name is Ian Strimbeck and I am a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where I conducted training to host nation forces in small-unit tactics as an Infantry Rifleman. During that time I attained experience in combat and security operations and held every position in a fire team from SAW Gunner to Team Leader. I've had the opportunity to have been in multiple high-tension environments during my time in the military and therefore bring back what I've learned to you. Runenation is a consulting and education company specializing in the constant growth of the multidisciplinary tactician. Too often in the "gun world," you see individuals who are drawn to a singular tool in lieu of looking at the bigger picture. It isn't solely about the gun, blade, grappling, striking, medical, fitness, or verbal acuity. It's a constantly evolving skillset that you put a varying amount of effort into throughout your life." Violence isn't a word a lot of people believe should be attributed to men and his responsibilities. We know that isn't true because we believe that the ability to violence is not only within us, it can be harnessed to keep ourselves and others protected from those who wish to do violence to us. Today, I am joined by Marine Corps Veteran, Ian Strimbeck to talk about why every man should learn how to harness the darker side of masculinity. We cover so much in this podcast including harnessing effective verbalization skills, how to get better at predicting human behavior, the power of intuition and how to use it effectively, and how to develop and harness the softer side of violence. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Developing the soft skills required to face adversity The difference between software and hardware when it comes to facing threats Why every man needs to wrap his head around potential violence How to avoid "target fixation" How to develop and harness effective verbalization skills How to get better at predicting human behavior How the skills for violence are translatable to everyday life Why we should learn to tap into our primal roots The importance of humility in keeping yourself and other safe Learning not to make yourself a target The power of intuition and how to use it effectively The four cues you should be aware of in others when looking for threats How "profiling" can keep you alive The correct priority of engagement How to use appearance as a deterrent Why establishing baseline behavior in others is so crucial IAN STRIMBECK My guest today is veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Ian Strimbeck. Ian reached out a couple months ago and, as I was preparing for this conversation, I was extremely impressed by his resume as a veteran and warrior in not only the military but in the executive protection space. He's taken what he has learned on the battlefield and now teaches those who want to be better protectors of themselves and the people they have a responsibility for. This was such a fascinating discussion with an extremely fascinating man and I think, not only are you going to enjoy our conversation, you're going to walk away with some information that could just save your life.
