What if the things you think you're “bad at” aren't flaws, but simply skills you haven't practiced yet? This week's episode is about stripping away the shame and drama around struggle and seeing it for what it is: a skill you can learn.I share a moment with my health coach that completely shifted my perspective—when she told me that eating three meals a day instead of snacking was “just a skill.” Those three little words took the heaviness out of the struggle and opened the door to an entire framework for the post-divorce glow-up.Together, we'll explore:Why reframing struggles as skills changes everythingDating as a skill (from profiles to boundaries to spark)Money as a skill (budgeting, investing, and yes—fat bank accounts are sexy)Parenting as a skill (it's not you, it's just practice)Strength and health as skills (lifting, eating, sleeping—learnable)Making new friends and building a support network (awkward at first, then easier with reps)How to release shame and practice your way into a life you loveYour glow-up isn't about perfection or innate talent. It's about repetition, practice, and compassion. So the next time you think you're failing? Remember this: you're not failing—you're practicing. And your glow-up is just a skillset away.PostDivorceGlowUp.comEmail: quinn@postdivorceglowup.com

We all know the detrimental effects of all or nothing thinking when it comes to health and fitness, so why do we think that way when it comes to our businesses? All or nothing typically ends up being nothing, so if you're starting an online business, it's paramount to take messy action and overcome perfectionism. Expecting perfection from yourself will only lead to burn out and abandonment. By taking immediate action rather than waiting for the perfect moment, you will always find yourself closer to your goals. In this episode, host John Duffin interviews Ken Jordan. Ken is the Branch Manager, Loan Officer for the Premier Mortgage Team at Princeton Mortgage. We delve into various topics related to achieving early business success, including insights from Ken's experience navigating an earlier restaurant career. Lots of cursing, crying, and yelling (think Gordon Ramsay). Don't miss Ken & JD discussing the significance of sales skills received from Ken's Yellow Pages experience, and the principles of running a business where continuous learning is paramount. Pay particular attention to Ken's split-second decision in shifting his rituals and "joining" the 5 AM Club. You'll find that timing (and action) equate to significant results. Ken highlights the impacts of his 'Big 3' traits—skill set, mindset, and habits—and how these traits drive him to stronger relationships and increased success. Additional takeaways include the importance of surrounding yourself with inspiring people, trying new things, and finding happiness through progress rather than mere attainment. I am a huge fan and a friend of Ken Jordan. In addition to being a highly influential money man, Ken also hosts a series of podcasts (I have been fortunate to guest on Ken's "Selling the Dream" podcast). Ken is currently also hosting a series of mini-podcasts (five minutes, three questions) which are well worth your attention. Why do we follow orders or go along with things that feel wrong? Why might defiance be better than compliance? And how can we go about becoming more defiant?Episode SummaryI've always been fascinated by why people obey, even when it clashes with their instincts or values. In this conversation, I'm joined by Dr Sunita Sah — a physician-turned-organisational psychologist whose work explores the hidden social, cultural, and psychological forces behind compliance. Drawing from her research and personal journey, Sunita reframes defiance as alignment with our true values, not reckless rebellion. We unpack concepts like “insinuation anxiety” — the discomfort of signalling someone else might be wrong — and explore her five-stage model of defiance, from recognising tension to taking decisive action. Sunita explains why compliance is often mistaken for consent, why both have distinct definitions, and why many of us have never practised saying “no” skillfully. Along the way, she shares vivid examples from medicine, aviation, parenting, and history, including the calculated defiance of Rosa Parks. For leaders, Sunita offers a challenge: create environments where dissent is safe and effective, and treat defiance as valuable feedback. For all of us, she suggests starting small — practising low-stakes resistance to build our “defiance muscle.” Whether you're a rule-maker, rule-follower, or both, this episode invites you to rethink the stories you tell yourself about compliance, and to see saying “no” as a powerful tool for living with integrity. Guest Bio Self-Description:Dr Sunita Sah is a physician-turned-organisational psychologist and Professor of Management Studies at Cornell University. Her research examines the social, organisational, and psychological forces that influence decision-making, particularly in contexts involving authority, conflicts of interest, and ethical dilemmas. She is the author of Defy: The Power of No in a World That Demands Yes (US title: Defy: How to Speak Up When It Matters), a book that reframes defiance as a vital life skill. AI-Generated Timestamped Summary [00:00:00] Opening & why we obey even when it feels wrong[00:02:00] Sunita's career journey: medicine to organisational psychology[00:05:00] Personal experiences shaping her research[00:07:00] Redefining compliance vs. consent[00:10:00] The five elements of informed consent[00:11:00] Introducing “insinuation anxiety”[00:14:00] High-stakes and low-stakes examples of silence[00:18:00] Why people resist defiance — lack of skill and practice[00:20:00] New definition of defiance as value alignment[00:23:00] Tension as the first stage of defiance[00:25:00] Stage 3: asking clarification questions[00:27:00] Scripts for skilful defiance[00:30:00] Practising in low-stakes situations[00:33:00] Speaking up for others vs. for oneself[00:36:00] Defiance as a skill, not a personality[00:38:00] Calculating safety and effectiveness of defiance[00:41:00] Costs of compliance vs. costs of defiance[00:44:00] Clarifying values to lower stress and improve integrity[00:46:00] Leadership responsibility for safe dissent[00:48:00] Performative vs. genuine speak-up systems[00:50:00] Defiance as contagious behaviour[00:52:00] The role of mischief and playful resistance[00:56:00] Saying yes when the world expects no[00:58:00] Advice for compliance officers and leaders[01:00:00] Upcoming courses on defiance and decision-makingLinksSunita's website: https://www.sunitasah.comDefy: The Power of No in a World That Demands Yes — https://www.sunitasah.com/defySunita's Cornell University faculty profile — https://www.johnson.cornell.edu/faculty-research/faculty/sunitasah/

BEYOND FEELING: Using Your Feelings To Create with Vera franco & Anne-Chloé Destremau Feeling your feelings with clarity and power is the Number 1 Skillset for walking the bridge towards regenerative cultures. Modern culture is a cult of numbness. It makes sense that the healing towards resilience, connection, and regeneration starts with accessing the crucial resources of your heart: your conscious anger, fear, sadness and joy. But feelings are not only meant to be felt, like simply going an emotional trip. They contain all the fuel and direction you need to create what you want in your life. Many people starting on the path of learning how to feel consciously stop at expressing feelings, without harvesting the force of change that they carry. That is only Phase 1 of Conscious Feelings work: learning how to feel. Phase 2 of Feelings Work is learning to apply both the energy and the clarity to creating life, moment to moment. Maybe you think that creation happens in the future, somewhere out there in a place where you might eventually do things, commit, make promises, and keep your agreements. Maybe you only think about what you want to create. Or maybe you started saying what you want and are stuck on the creating part. A new skillset is needed to bridge yourself from feeling your feelings to using them for immediate intelligent creation. This worktalk is a dedicated practice space for creating from your Feelings. Some of the new skills include: * Reducing your buffer zone to gain an immediate correlation between your feelings and the world (Immediatism); * Celebrating the joyful ecstasy of receiving clear and powerful feedback (Feedback is feedback); * Loving your words (as an adult, your words have value because you are your word); * Experiencing that, as the world is happening to you and calls forth your feelings, you are happening to the world through those very same feelings (reciprocity, no separation, everything is connected to everything else, and this has purpose). * Experiencing the ecstasy of Integrity in yourself, meaning the ecstatic experience of saying and creating what You truly want.

Today we're diving into one of the more heated debates in the firearms and training community — Should civilians be training in CQB? Close Quarters Battle. Is it a useful skill, a fantasy-driven distraction, or something in between? If you've spent time in the training world, you've probably heard both extremes: "Civilians have no business learning room clearing" — or — "CQB is essential to defending your home and loved ones." So which is it?I'll lay out both sides of the argument, share my own view, and maybe challenge a few assumptions along the way. In this episode, we dive into why tactical thinking isn't just for the military or law enforcement—it's essential for civilians too. Using the real-world example of Gary Edwards, a citizen who stepped in to stop not one but two attempted carjackings in suburban Georgia, we explore how awareness, quick decision-making, and the right mindset can change the outcome of violent encounters. We also unpack the importance of learning tactics—not to play soldier, but to become harder to victimize. Superior tactics have always allowed smaller, less-equipped groups to overcome stronger opponents, and the same principles apply to everyday people facing real threats. Whether you carry a firearm or not, this episode is a wake-up call to sharpen your skills, train your mind, and stop relying on luck when danger comes calling.Resources:FM 3-21.8: The Infantry Platoon and SquadSupport the showGet Members Only Content when you upgrade to a premium membership on our Substack page. What if the biggest barrier to success in tech isn't access, but mindset? In this episode of Future of Work, Dr. Salvatrice Cummo talks with Tara Chklovski, founder and CEO of Technovation, about what it truly takes to thrive in an AI-driven world. Tara unpacks why resilience and adaptability are just as vital as technical skills, how simulation-based learning can reshape education, and why women are most at risk of being left behind. Together, they explore how community colleges, mentorship, and real-world problem-solving can unlock opportunity for all. The future of work isn't just about tech, it's about who's empowered to shape it. You'll learn:  Why AI literacy starts with confidence, not code, and how to build both. How educators can move beyond “toy problems” and toward real-world innovation. What emotional and cognitive resilience look like in a rapidly evolving workforce. How women are being left behind in fast-growing tech sectors, and how to fix it. Why simulation learning may be the most powerful classroom tool we're not using.   About the Guest: Tara Chklovski is the founder and CEO of Technovation, a global nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls and underserved communities through technology education. With a background in physics and aerospace engineering, she transitioned from academia to social entrepreneurship to address the gender and racial disparities in STEM fields. In a time when sermons can be streamed and content is everywhere, the greatest impact comes from something far more personal. AI might write sermons, but it can't do pastoral care.
