Interview with James Musselwhite "We are an independent family run Social Photography Studio. Originally Founded as 'Closer Photography' in 2008 for Wedding & Portrait Photography. In 2020 we have transitioned to Musselwhite Photography to reflect the changes in the business to a wider offering including commercial ( https://www.musselwhitephotography.com/corporate-imagery ) photography, videography ( https://www.musselwhitephotography.com/videography ) , and James' mentoring, teaching & speaking ( https://www.musselwhitephotography.com/speaking-workshops ) offerings We love Photography, we love imagery, we love the possibilities of a blank piece of paper. We may offer a variety of services but there is an unmistakable style throughout that holds true to the 'Musselwhite Photography' brand and the way we connect with people. "
In this episode, I get a chance to talk to the team of qualification judges that I am privileged to be a part of for the British Institue of Professional Photography. I thought it would be interesting (and so it proved to be) to ask each of them before and after the judging, what they would love to see, what (after the fact) was a highlight and what they would say to anyone thinking of getting themselves qualified. The two days of judging are really intensive - you can hear the fatigue in the judges' voices later in the podcast - but what they have to see is inciteful and priceless. The judges in this episode are: David Stanbury - https://www.stanburyphotography.co.uk/ Catherine Beltramini - http://www.catherine-beltraminiphotography.com/ Sean Conboy - http://seanconboy.com/ Saraya Corteville - https://sarayacortaville.co.uk/ James Musselwhite - https://www.portraitofawrestler.com/ and me - https://paulwilkinsonphotography.co.uk The chair of judges is Scott Johnson -https://www.theedgephotography.co.uk/ And if that weren't enough, I also get the chance to chat with Martin Baynes, the CEO of the British Institute of Professional Photography about qualifications and what the future holds. The British Institue Of Professional Photography - https://www.bipp.com/ So, all in all, quite a long podcast (just over an hour), but well worth it. So pour a cuppa, sit back and enjoy an insight into the judges and judging for professional photography qualifications. Enjoy! James Musselwhite is one of the most exciting portrait photographers working in the UK: with his iconic monochrome portraits of wrestlers, he has built a global fan base who prize his imagery. In this interview (in a noisy pub in southern England!) we chat about life, passion, encouragement and the state of the photography industry. And we laugh. Quite a lot.
This week Flash's wrestling friend is Portrait of a Wrestler's James Musselwhite. Here they talk about his love of wrestling, falling out of love with the sport and how CM Punk's pipebomb promo ignited that passion once again. They chat about his journey into photography and how a project that was intended to be a one off to gain a fellowship through him into a world that he's never left. They Talk Jimmy Havoc, Marty Scurll and Ring of Honor, this weeks episode is bloody brilliant!
James Musselwhite knew photography was his thing as a kid. With persistence, a program was even created for him in school and he developed his craft in isolation. But through determination, a long-term mindset, and events that led him to go all in, James now finds community all over the world as he documents the biggest events in pro wrestling. In an episode that brings the first year of Chocolate Croissants to a close, James chats with Jordan from over in the UK! He talks about the moments he knew photography and pro wrestling were for him. He then goes on to tell his story that includes numerous jobs, breaking into photography with an intense political escapade, learning how to build a business working with families, surviving cancer, and ultimately creating a path into the niche world of pro wrestling. James is the complete package...smart, articulate, kind, and professional. He does us all a favor by sharing his story that we're confident will inspire, no matter your interests.
