Shot of Nostalgia is back for Season 7, and we're jumping straight into one of the most important turning points in modern wrestling history. The DeLorean's set for 2002—a year where WWE was trying to figure itself out, and SmackDown quietly stole the show. Acefield Retro kicks things off with The Split & The Spark, covering March through July 2002, when everything started to change. The Invasion had fizzled out, the roster was packed to the brim, and WWE needed a new identity. The solution came in the form of the first-ever Brand Extension. Raw got the spectacle. SmackDown got the wrestlers. Under Paul Heyman's direction, SmackDown became a wrestling-first show built on pacing, precision, and purpose. And at the center of it all were six names—Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Edge, Rey Mysterio, and Chavo Guerrero. Together, they gave the show rhythm, personality, and heart. This episode revisits the early foundations of the SmackDown Six era, including: • The 2002 WWE Draft and how it reshaped the company • Eddie Guerrero's return and redemption match with Rob Van Dam at Backlash • Kurt Angle and Edge turning a Hair vs. Hair match at Judgment Day into a breakout moment for both • Rey Mysterio's WWE debut against Chavo Guerrero and the high-flying spark that made everyone stop and stare SmackDown wasn't supposed to be the show people talked about every week—but it became exactly that. Cleaner finishes, longer matches, and stories that actually paid off. For one summer, wrestling television just felt right again. Presented by The Turnbuckle Tavern, where nostalgia meets conversation. Follow @TurnbuckleTavern and @AcefieldRetro for updates, retro drops, and full discussions every Friday night. Welcome back to The Lawcast! This time our hosts cover AAA's peak, When Worlds Collide from 1994.AAA got so hot Eric Bischoff decided to promote a pay-per-view for them in the United States. We've got Konnan vs. Perro Aguayo in a Steel Cage Match in the main event. In the semi-main event we'll have Eddie Guerrero and Art Barr taking on El Hijo Del Santo and Octagon in a Best Of Three Falls Hair vs. Masks Match. Plus more action featuring Chris Benoit, Scorpio, Tito Santana, La Parka, and more.We also discuss CM Punk winning the World Heavyweight Title, The Last Time is Now Tournament, and the announcement of the WrestleKingdom main event.
Have any interesting stories to tell us? Lets us know here!Known as the Rabid Wolverine, The Canadian Crippler, Wild Pegasus, Pegasus Kid, and most important The Broom, he is often touted as the best damned technical wrestler in the world, Chris Benoit was, and still is to many, one of the greatest to ever grace to ring. But behind the tiny talent hides a very dark past of mental illness, abuse and drugs, all concluding with the murder of his wife Nancy and son Daniel. But was it really Benoit? or could it have been the acts of another demonic wrestler, out to frame Benoit and ruin his legacy. Well today we'll find out. Join us as we dive deep into the life and death of Chris Benoit!Warning - this episode deals with some pretty heavy topics, including abuse, sexual and otherwise, and horrific violence. With that being said, jokes are being made about the killer and the industry, not the victims. If there's one thing Benoit earned through his actions, its public ridicule. So with that said, enjoy the show!If you enjoyed the show, please follow us on whatever podcast app you are using. If you'd like to take it further, a like and review helps as well. It means a ton. Thank you for listening!

Ryan and Cindy are back for the start of their sixth year, deep into 2000. We start talking about the big reveal of Stone Cold's assailant and get into the big show, ending with Olympic glory. We start talking about the big reveal of Rikishi hitting Stone Cold and how it was either a let-down, or at least out of nowhere. We talk about the Dudley Boys Tag Team Invitational and how it is an unique way to get a lot of guys on the card. The ending, it seems, of the Chris Jericho/X-Pac feud, with the match taking place inside the confines of a steel cage. We talk about how Eddie Guerrero has gone full heel, taking a shower with the ho's and how he is now adjacent to the RTC due to their hatred of Chyna and her Playboy issue. The (kind of) in-ring return of Stone Cold Steve Austin as he takes out his frustrations on Rikishi and attempts to kill him, before police intervene. A little levity with Naked Mideon taking on William Regal for the European title. The saga of the Los Conquistadors winning Tag Team gold…2 nights in a row!?! Kurt Angle capping his first year in the WWF with a World title win. We look at clips of the next few Raws, including Ivory joining the RTC, Edge Christian and Kurt Angle celebrating Edge's birthday and Rikishi confessing that the Rock was the mastermind behind hitting Steve Austin. All this and much more. Enjoy!
In November of 2005 the great Eddie Guerrero passed away just as WWE planned to push him back to the top of the Smackdown for another World Title run. Just a few short weeks before that, Guerrero took part in his final pay-per-view outing, opposite Batista in the main event of No Mercy 2005. This week's show takes a look back on this event that also included a handicap-casket match which saw Undertaker battle both Randy and Bob Orton as well as Rey Mysterio vs. JBL and the PPV debuts of both Bobby Lashley and Mr Kennedy. The Random Wrestling Review is brought to you this week by Tom, Alex and Tinky.

[00:00] Saturday Morning Wrestling & Childhood ThrowbacksJoe and Anthony kick things off talking about the weirdness (and secret perks) of watching wrestling at 8am. It's like being a kid again, but with more coffee and less cereal.[04:00] Perth Crowd, Ticket Prices, and “Is Perth Even a Real Place?”The guys riff on WWE's big show in Perth, the wild ticket prices, and whether anyone actually talks about Perth outside of wrestling. Spoiler: not really.[10:00] RAW vs. Crown Jewel & Seth's “Is He Hurt or Not?” SagaThey get into the never-ending Seth Rollins injury drama, why nobody believes anything anymore, and how WWE storylines sometimes make less sense than a fever dream.[18:00] LA Knight: The Best-Looking Guy Who Can't Catch a BreakLA Knight's booking gets roasted. Is he an underdog? Is he a cocky heel? Why does he keep tripping over his own feet? The guys have thoughts (and jokes).[25:00] Becky Lynch, Factions, and “What Even Is This Storyline?”Becky's name comes up, but so does the fact that half the storylines just got nuked. Expect some classic “what are they even doing?” rants.[32:00] Bailey, Lyra, and the Women's Division: Chaos & ChemistryBailey's new vibe, Lyra's straight-man energy, and why the women's division is a wild ride right now. Also, a surprising amount of talk about wrestling gear.[40:00] Referees, Announcers, and “Back in My Day…”A trip down memory lane: when refs and announcers had actual personalities, and why today's shows could use a little more flavor (and a little less sameness).[48:00] Dominic Mysterio vs. Penta: Cheating Done RightDominic's heel antics get a breakdown, plus a debate on whether being “too smart” is a good thing for a bad guy. Also, some love for old-school Eddie Guerrero tricks.[56:00] Rhea Ripley, Asuka, and “Why Is This So Complicated?”Rhea, Asuka, Kairi Sane, and a whole lot of chaos in the women's title scene. The guys try to make sense of it all (and mostly just laugh about it).[1:03:00] Bronson Reed, Jimmy & Jay Uso, and Tag Team TangentsBronson Reed's gear, Jimmy vs. Jay, and why some tag teams just feel like reheated pizza. Expect some sidebars and a few “what are they wearing?” moments.[1:10:00] Main Event: Jay Uso, LA Knight, and CM PunkThe crowd sings for Punk, LA Knight almost wins, and the guys wonder if we really need another Seth vs. Punk feud. Also: more jokes about fruit punch boxes.[1:18:00] Wrap-Up & RandomnessFinal thoughts, a few more rants, and a reminder to check out the Patreon. Road Trip After Hours w/ WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and Host Mac Davis
The show opens with a running joke about our cursed intro music—then swerves into one of our most heated segments: the impossible choices. We ask Teddy Long to pick who he'd retire between John Cena, Roman Reigns, and Cody Rhodes; who he'd release between Seth Rollins, Jey Uso, and Logan Paul; and who he'd revive between Eddie Guerrero, Hulk Hogan, and Bray Wyatt. The answers are honest, surprising, and deeply human, grounded in a lifetime of watching stars rise, stumble, and become legends. From there, we trade stories that bring history to life. Teddy remembers Bray as a kid guarding a gear bag with a loyal dog and breaks down why Eddie's charisma and timing were unmatched—down to a small note on a frog splash that shows how perfectionists think. We share memories of Balls Mahoney's laughter, Cowboy Bob Orton's road days, Fit Finley's toughness and mentorship, Goldust's early years, and a tense moment where Vince McMahon left Gorilla like a thunderbolt. There's even a tasteful peek inside Vince's birthday celebration—family, music, and a rare keepsake that says more about trust than any headline. If you're trying to break into wrestling, this one's a blueprint. Teddy lays out why education comes first, how to plan for injuries and uncertainty, and where indies are failing the next generation: few teach promos, character, and show-business fundamentals. We offer concrete fixes—early call times, Q&A, storytelling drills, and veteran-led sessions—to help indie promotions build talent that can talk, connect, and move seamlessly to TV. Fans get a seat at the table; aspiring wrestlers get real steps forward; everyone gets a reminder that the ring is built on people as much as spectacle.Join the conversation, tell us your picks for retire/release/revive, and send your intro music ideas. If you enjoy the show, follow, share with a friend who loves wrestling, and leave a quick review to help more fans find us.Send us a text

This week on Tales from the Attitude Era, Rob and former WWF writer Tommy dive into one of the most iconic and chaotic episodes in history: WWF RAW is WAR from April 17, 2000!This is the night Chris Jericho shocked the world and pinned Triple H to become the WWF Champion... for a few minutes. Tommy shares the incredible behind-the-scenes story of how the match came together, including the fact that Jericho was on the verge of quitting the company just moments before being told he was winning the title. The McMahon family drama also explodes as Linda McMahon makes a blockbuster announcement for Backlash: Stone Cold Steve Austin is returning to be in The Rock's corner! This leads to a wild segment where Linda slaps Stephanie, and Shane McMahon has to save his own mother from a Pedigree at the hands of Triple H.We also dive into:- Taz making a shocking appearance on Raw as the reigning ECW Champion.- The convoluted and perfectly executed finish to the Jericho/Triple H match.- Did Triple H bury Jericho's momentum by winning clean in the main event?- Kurt Angle's hilarious abstinence crusade at the local mall.- The ongoing saga between The Hardy Boyz, Lita, Eddie Guerrero, and Chyna.Join us for a deep dive into an episode that injected a massive shot of adrenaline into the Attitude Era and created a moment fans still talk about over two decades later.Follow Tales from The Attitude Era on all social mediahttp://youtube.com/@TFTAttitudeEra http://twitter.com/TFTAttitudeErahttp://instagram.com/TFTAttitudeErahttp://tiktok.com/@TFTAttitudeEraTommy Blacha made his name in Hollywood as a writer on Conan O'Brien, co-creator of Metalocalypse on Adult Swim, and a writer on shows like The Eric Andre Show and Da Ali G Show. Road Trip After Hours w/ WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and Host Mac Davis
The future of wrestling media arrives in an unexpected package on this episode, as 10-year-old podcaster Houston Genius joins Teddy Long and Mac Davis. What unfolds is a heartwarming glimpse into wrestling's next generation and the mentorship that helps it thrive.Houston's father Mission reveals how a pivotal moment with The Boogeyman, orchestrated by Teddy Long at WrestleCon, transformed his son's interviewing style and launched a viral video sensation. The young podcaster confidently shares his wrestling ambitions, declaring Jey Uso his dream interview while boldly stating he won't interview Dominik Mysterio because he's saving that confrontation for an in-ring challenge. The conversation takes a profoundly moving turn when Teddy opens up about his Birmingham roots, sharing raw stories from the Civil Rights era, including being just blocks away during the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing. In perhaps the episode's most emotional moment, Teddy recounts finding his estranged alcoholic father years later, approaching him without revealing his identity at first, and finally creating closure in a tear-filled exchange. This vulnerability provides powerful context for Teddy's journey from difficult beginnings to wrestling legend.Wrestling history comes alive through Teddy's backstage tales of pranks (including the British Bulldogs' drugged dog Matilda), his experiences with Eddie Guerrero, and the origin of Jim Cornette's "peanut head" chant. These authentic glimpses behind the curtain remind us why wrestling's oral tradition remains so vital.Subscribe to our channel to support the show and catch us live every Thursday at 7 PM Eastern. On this REMIX edition of What Happened When, it's' the Finger Poke of Doom! It's the "Butts in Seats" comment. It's all here! The reason WCW lost the Monday Night Wars. Not so fast! Even though those two incidents have resonated among wrestling fans for decades, the main reason WCW lost the war is actually all wrapped up in this episode. This Monday Nitro episode sucked! Even though on this show were legendary greats like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Charlotte Flair (as a young Ashley in the ring with her dad), Kevin Nash, Goldberg, Scott Hall, Konan, Diamond Dallas Page, Chris Jericho, Lex Luger, Scott Steiner, Buff Bagwell, Eddie Guerrero and more there were too many long, drawn out vignettes and too little pro wrestling. However, there is an interesting backstory to all this, and it has to do with the ratings when Goldberg finally made it to the arena.
