I'm talking to GB track star Katie Archibald She's Olympic champion in the team pursuit, and a world champion in team pursuit, Omnium and Madison. Katie is one of the most distinctive track racers riding at the moment, and someone with a reputation as an intelligent rider, one who analyses what she's doing pretty carefully. That's why I wanted to talk to her about how she and the team break-down track events to figure out how to improve their chances. Even in what looks like the pure chaos of the two-rider Madison relay, there are patterns to be found, patterns which a smart team can uncover and take advantage of. “For example, one of the things we found when we went through lots and lots of races,” Katie tells me, “is that the team leading going into a sprint lap is almost always the team that wins the sprint.” That's a very a counter-intuitive but distinctly useful thing to know. In the flagship team pursuit event, she tells me about achieving the sheer precision that's required, and what it's like to be able to understand everything about how a teammate is feeling from just looking at the way their hips move. As well as Katie, I talk to British Cycling performance analyst Steph Blair, and hear from her about the ways the team can help riders improve both physical performance and tactical decision-making. And Katie and I discuss the stupidity of the ten-day week I invented in 2002 in an attempt to get more training done. --------------------------- If you liked this episode of Faster, please tell your friends about it. We have three fascinating, erudite guests on the latest podcast, and Desire editor Stuart Clapp too. Only joshing, Stu…Olympic team pursuiters Elinor Barker and Katie Archibald were interviewed by Hannah Dines for the latest Rouleur issue, and an excellent feature it is too. Waiting for a postponed Olympics, getting back to racing, mental health and explaining the Madison via the works of Shakespeare - Katie and Elinor cover it all in typically engaging style. Baltimore cyclist Chris Jones's superb essay in issue 20.7 is another highlight. He tells Ian Parkinson about the experience of riding the city streets as a black man in America, racial divides, very gradual improvement and freeing the mind via the bike. Essential listening. Our Stu was understandably emotional at the weekend, as a young man from Hackney most of us here at Rouleur Towers have known since he was a skinny little kid working in a bike shop, won the Giro d'Italia. Stuart has a nice little anecdote about Tao Geoghegan Hart and what a decent chap he is - of course he does. Brings a tear to the eye. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The February episode of The Cycling Podcast Féminin includes interviews with cyclo-cross world championship silver medallist Lucinda Brand, Olympic gold medallist Katie Archibald and the recently retired Dani Rowe.  Orla Chennaoui, Richard Moore and Rose Manley discuss the latest news, including a thrilling women’s race at the cyclo-cross worlds in Denmark. Brand suffered a late mishap when she collided in the pits with her father during a clumsy bike change. She tells us that she has already put that disappointment behind her as she focuses on the road season. Archibald shares her plans for 2019, in which she might ride as a ‘privateer’ rather than for one of the leading road teams. And Rowe explains why she made the surprising decision to retire at the end of last season, her best on the road.  “I feel privileged to go out on my own terms, in a really good mental place with the sport,” says Rowe. “I don’t look at a bike and think, I never want to ride a bike again. I still love it. I haven’t been told I’m not good enough and I haven’t had an injury that’s forced me out of the sport.”  The Cycling Podcast Féminin is supported by [Rapha](https://rapha.cc) and [Science in Sport.](https://scienceinsport.com) Harry’s have a special offer for Cycling Podcast Féminin listeners by offering a Trial Set for £3.95, all you have to do is go to Harrys.com/CYCLING To get 25% off Science in Sport products, go to scienceinsport.com and enter the code SISCP25 at the checkout.

In this special double-length episode, Raya and Stephen talk to Olympic gold medallist and world champion Katie Archibald, yet still find time to sandwich the interview between a feast of cycling features; including unsettling news from the world of Strava, a catacylsmic kitbag, and a fairly forceful argument that Garmin bike computers - you know, those things that everyone has apparently -are completely pointless. Oh, and Stephen and Raya laugh like a drain in possibly their funniest - and therefore most facetious - episode yet. On top of all this, there's the Velominati, TWO dips into the bike arm of Kickstarter, News, Triathlon World, and the best feel-good You Drive Like a D*ck yet.   The Cyclist Pod (c) Stephen Grant and Raya Hubbell www.cyclistpod.com Music 'Zazie' c/o Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
