Live from the 2025 edition of TRAKA, Rouleur writer Rachel Jary speaks to Canyon racers Rosa Klöser and Josie Millard about their journeys in the sport so far. Klöser comes from an academic background and shot to stardom after winning Unbound Gravel last year – she now rides on the road with Canyon//SRAM alongside racing gravel as a privateer. Josie is an ex-professional skateboarder who has switched to bike racing in the past season and she's already taking the gravel world by storm. They discuss how to get more female cyclists in to gravel racing, equality in the sport and why it's important to empower people to give events like the Traka a go.Follow Rachel on Instagram: @racheljaryFollow Josie on Instagram: @josieloriFollow Rosa on Instagram: @rosaklsrSubscribe to Rouleur: rouleur.cc/subscribeWith thanks to Canyon for facilitating this podcast. Reigning Queen of Gravel Rosa Klöser returns to the show to talk about some of the major developments in her career since we spoke with her after her surprise win at Unbound last year. That victory launched her into the spotlight as a major new player in the gravel scene, but her spur-of-the-moment decision to race German Road Nationals really brought her to the attention of the broader cycling world. After coming in 9th place in a stacked field, Rosa scored a contract with the WorldTour team and Tour de France Femmes champions Canyon-SRAM.She sat down with Payson in Girona last week to talk about how a disorganised and last-minute stop at German Nationals set her on a new path in the sport, her first training camp with Canyon-SRAM, and how she'll be managing a privateer program on gravel with a WorldTour team on the road. In the February episode of The Cycling Podcast Féminin, Rose Manley, Orla Chennaoui and Jo Rowsell pick over the UAE Tour, a race which often offers up some key insight for the season ahead. Plus we look at some of the junior world champions of the past in our mini feature. There's plenty to discuss from the UAE Tour, as Elisa Longo Borghini took a commanding overall victory while Lorena Wiebes went almost unchallenged as she swept up all three sprint stages. Some other big favourites didn't fare so well though. Pauline Ferrand Prévot has made no secret of her Tour de France Femmes ambitions since her comeback but was noticeably absent among the first finishers on the top of Jebel Hafeet. While the new line-up at FDJ-Suez failed to take home a top ten on any stage. In our mini feature we speak to former and present junior world champions and see how they've fared since hitting the elite ranks. We hear from Lucy Van der Haar nee Garner who retired five years ago, Canyon-SRAM rider Zoe Backstedt, current junior champion Cat Ferguson and Laura Stigger who was scouted by Anna van der Breggen to join SD Worx this year. Also on the agenda… more baby news, some deserved gloating by Jo and reminiscing over Orla's car sickness. The Cycling Podcast Féminin has everything you need to know about what has quickly become the biggest race in women's cycling - the Tour de France Femmes. Rose Manley and Denny Gray take a close look at the eight stages that will take the riders from Rotterdam to the Alps across a week of racing. Special attention is paid to the upcoming Queen stage in our mini feature on Alpe d'Huez. While the men's peloton have visited the iconic climb 31 times at the Tour, the women last raced there over 30 years ago during the Tour Feminin. We investigate the origins of the Alpe's legend and speak to some female racers who have competed there in the past. Plus Rose and Denny weigh up who might be the biggest contenders for the fabled yellow jersey. While Demi Vollering has looked unbeatable across this year's stage races, she lines up at the Tour with a somewhat depleted SD Worx team who are missing some of their strongest domestiques. Meanwhile Kasia Niewiadoma has enjoyed something of a resurgence this year, supported by a Canyon-SRAM squad which continues to discover new depths. Plus no-one can discount Giro d'Italia winner Elisa Longo Borghini, looking to make it a Giro-Tour double. And while the racing is highly anticipated, so too are the cheese possibilities as Rose and Denny prepare to embark on their own Tour de France, where they will be doing daily podcasts on-the-ground, beginning on 12th August. After months of uncertainty, British Cycling have the money, the title partner and the race director: now they also have the races. Incredibly, the Tours of Britain have been saved, thanks to a five-year sponsorship deal with Lloyds Bank that is believed to be in the region of £20 million. We hear from British Cycling CEO Jon Dutton as he tells the media about the "landmark deal" that will see Lloyds Bank immediately become the title partner of the Tour of Britain events, as well as what BC are calling its "major events vision". We also reveal that former organisers Sweetspot were close to securing a deal of their own with Lloyds last year before they were forced into liquidation. On the back of this thrilling news for British cycling as a whole, we also look ahead to three days of great racing at the Ride London Classique. The event has attracted many of the biggest names in the women's peloton including Lotte Kopecky, Lorena Wiebes and Lizzi Deignan, as well as Zoe Bäckstedt, who's fresh from her second place in the Antwerp Port Epic. In an exclusive interview, the 19-year-old Canyon-SRAM rider reflects on her highlights of the season so far, the excitement she feels at the prospect of racing in front of home fans at Ride London, and the possibility of selection for this summer's Paris Olympics. Sam Bennett is another rider hoping that he gets the chance to shine in France this summer, in his case at the Tour de France, which he's not appeared in since winning the green jersey in 2020. Buoyed by five victories at last week's Four Days of Dunkirk, the Decathlon-Ag2r La Mondiale sprinter looks back on that success, reveals the race he's chosen as prep for the Tour, and talks up his chances of being selected for his currently all-conquering French team. In our "How to Make Cycling Better" feature, we hear from EF Education-EasyPost team manager Charly Wegelius, who outlines a way in which he believes racing could not only be safer for the riders, but also attract bigger audiences. With Paris-Roubaix, arguably the most hotly anticipated weekend on the pro cycling calendar, approaching fast around the next cobbled bend, episode 74 of the road.cc Podcast features two representatives of the past, present, and future of the Queen of the Classics: Canyon-Sram's father-daughter duo Magnus and Zoe Bäckstedt, 20 years on from Magnus' career-defining Roubaix victory. The 2024 Paris-Roubaix not only marks the 20th anniversary of Bäckstedt Snr's victory at the Hell of the North, but also the first time the Canyon-Sram sports director will be taking on cycling's most famous one-day race with daughter Zoe as one of his charges, after the 19-year-old joined the German team from EF Education last autumn. The pair discuss Magnus' 2004 win, what it's like working together, Zoe's adjustment to the Women's World Tour after dominating as a junior, and why Roubaix is the race everyone wants to win.Meanwhile, in part two, British adventurer and explorer Oli France joins us, mid-marathon packing session, just before setting for the west coast of the United States, where he will be taking on phase two of his record-breaking attempt to travel from the lowest geographical point to the highest on every continent, by bike and on foot.He chats about his approach to training and preparing for extreme temperatures and the different physical demands of cycling and climbing, and why – after six weeks slogging through deserts, over tough, sapping roads, and in the freezing cold on his bike – climbing a mountain at the end of it all seems like the “easy part”…
Elisa Longo Borghini is one of Italian sport's most successful and consistent performers. With four national road titles, and seven time trial titles to show for her efforts on the bike. This year Elisa will be one of the team leaders in a strengthened Lidl-Trek team as they attempt to break the stranglehold of Canyon-Sram in 2024. Superteams are a mainstay in the World Tour peloton from UAE and Jumbo in the men's pack, to the inexorable rise of Canyon-SRAM in the women's. One team is aiming to join their number with a radical philosophy - "don't be a prick" and back the homegrown talent from your nation. Uno X earned their first Tour de France wildcard spot in 2023, entering the race with a roster built entirely from Danish and Norwegian riders - they have a women's team and a development team and continue to add bigger names to their roster every season - with Andreas Leknessund and Magnus Cort joining their men's team roster. Their women's team though less rigidly tied to the Dano-Norwegian rider selection with Brits, Swedes, and Italians amongst their roster - but their ambition is no smaller. Both teams aim for the World Tour and in this conversation Jens Haugland reveals his action plan to get there. Bobby and Jens is a Shocked Giraffe production for Velo. Magnus (Maggy) Backstedt swung by Zipp's hometown of Indianapolis, so we grabbed our recorder to catch up with the big Swede. As we talked with him in his camper, his daughter, Zoe, rode training laps on the cyclocross course outside. The two are part of the powerhouse CANYON//SRAM Racing team, dad as director sporfit and daughter rider. Maggy—at 6-foot-4, 205 pounds—was a huge presence in the pro peloton in the early 2000s. In this fun interview, he recalls his momentous victory at the 2004 Paris-Roubaix and his early experimentation with wider tires and carbon wheels at Roubaix. Like Zipp, he was ahead of his time. Maggy, in 2008, was part of Zipp's determined drive to develop a carbon wheel tough enough to win on the cobblestones of Roubaix. He gives all the details. At the end of the podcast, Maggy reveals his jaw-dropping power numbers.

In this month's episode of The Cycling Podcast Feminin, Rose Manley and Denny Gray pour over what has been a packed racing schedule since the World Championships. They pick out the defining moments and big breakthroughs from this closing part of the season which has included a nail-biting Tour of Scandinavia, a lively Tour de Romandie and a Simac Ladies Tour that was full of surprises. We also hear from Canyon-SRAM's huge new talent Antonia Niedermaier who has already bagged a Giro stage win in her first year in the World Tour. The young German tells us about her double life as both an elite cyclist and an elite ski mountaineer and reveals her ambitions to compete in both the Summer and Winter Olympics. Rose and Denny also – dare we say – “speculate” on where we can expect the new rivalries and new winners to come next year now that one of the sport's leading lights Annemiek Van Vleuten has retired. Van Vleuten said goodbye to racing at the Simac Ladies Tour, having racked up an astounding 104 wins in her 15 year elite career. The Cycling Podcast is supported by Science in Sport. Matt Stephens and Zoe Bäckstedt chat about bike racing and family. With both parents and a big sister already proving themselves in athletic terms, it's no surprise that Zoe has had such a successful junior career - winning World Championship jerseys for road racing, time trialling, cyclocross, and even some track disciplines. And in the 24 hours since recording this podcast, she's become European U23 Individual Time Trial champion too! But Matt is keen to learn which discipline is her favourite, and how it feels to switch teams mid-season from EF Education-TIBCO-SVB to Canyon-SRAM, where her father Magnus is Directeur Sportif. Zoe also rates Matt's Lego collection, and gets shocked by the price of Fish and Chips in her hometown of Pontyclun.

Was the decision to neutralise the final kilometres an over-reaction or were they right to avoid a situation where the hopes of some GC contenders might have gone slip sliding away?Well-drilled and relentlessly brilliant, we shine a focus on Jumbo-Visma's stage race-winning machine, which has lifted three of its riders into contention for the Vuelta title and is carrying them towards the first-ever Grand Tour Grand Slam. Jumbo DS Marc Reef explains the work and thinking behind the Dutch squad's never-ending search for perfection and why its riders buy into this philosophy. The Vuelta recommences on Tuesday with its sole individual time trial. We hear from world TT champion Remco Evenepoel, who tells us about the course in Valladolid and confesses that he's hoping to replicate the kind of gaps he created in the equivalent test last year. We also get a very succinct take from Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard.Like Jumbo-Visma, UAE Team Emirates have three riders in contention for the Vuelta title. Juan Ayuso is arguably the pick of them, and in this episode we throw a spotlight on him. The 20-year-old Spaniard tells us about his disrupted build-up to this race, his belief in his chances of victory, his growing bond with his one-time racing hero Alberto Contador, and the foundation and junior team he's establishing to enable others to follow in his footsteps. We also turn our attention away from the Vuelta and towards the women's peloton, where two extremely promising British riders have been the subject of intriguing transfers. We hear from relative racing newbie Claire Steels about her move to Movistar as replacement for the all-conquering Annemiek van Vleuten. We also get the lowdown from Canyon-SRAM team manager Ronny Lauke on the arrival of the prodigiously talented Zoe Backstedt.Support the show

Lance, Ali, and Mari break down how Canyon//SRAM's Ricarda Bauernfeind kept the streak of breakaways foiling the peloton alive for the second consecutive stage, and became the youngest stage winner in the history of the race, with a hugely impressive solo victory. They also discuss how Ashleigh Moolman moved into second place in the GC and narrowed her deficit to SD-Worx's Lotte Kopecky, while the pre-race favorite, Demi Vollering, tumbled down the overall standings after being hit with a controversial, and potentially race-altering, 20-second time penalty for drafting off her team car following a flat tire. They wrap up the show by previewing tomorrow's 6th stage, which takes the peloton on a rolling route from Albi to Blagnac in southwestern France. Our latest episode kicks off with an exclusive interview with Vuelta a España director Javier Guillén, who tells us that there's absolutely no prospect of the Vuelta swapping dates with the Giro d'Italia, a move that many were pushing for as a possible solution to the bad weather that perennially affects Italy's Grand Tour. "No, no and no!" declares Guillén. Looking ahead to this year's Vuelta, now just 10 weeks away, Guillén says all the big names will be welcome and discussions are under way to tempt the likes of defending champion Remco Evenepoel and three-time winner Primož Roglič back to Spain in late AugustAfter being made "provisionally non-active" by her Canyon//SRAM team following a positive test for the banned product Letrozole, Belgian world track champion Shari Bossuyt has given her side of the story in a press conference. In it, Bossuyt said her situation was like being put "in prison for murder when you didn't commit murder." Everyone's gone Derek Gee-crazy following his stand-out performance at the Giro d'Italia, and that includes his Israel-Premier Tech team, who've signed him to a contract that runs to the end of 2028. Team director Steve Bauer tells us about the qualities that make Gee so special and why the Canadian sensation could become a power in the Classics as well as the Grand Tours.Bora-Hansgrohe director Rolf Aldag tells why and how the German WorldTour team are set to change tack for the Grand Tours and challenge the big-hitting teams that tend to dominate the GC battle in these marquee races. As part of that strategy, he reveals that the upcoming Tour de France will probably be the last that they'll go into with a sprinter as well as a GC leader.Support the show

Taylor Phinney was one of the brightest stars of American road racing in the 2010s. The son of professional cycling luminaries, he was a world champion by age 17 and became the first American to win Paris-Roubaix the following year as a U23. A year later, he won the race again for good measure. During his 10-year career on the WorldTour, Taylor raced for Trek-Livestrong, BMC, and EF Education First. When he announced his retirement in 2019 at age 29, it shook the sport, but according to Taylor, it had been a long time coming. Earlier this week, Payson sat down with Taylor in his art studio in Spain to talk about how his life has changed since he left racing. They talk about how he became more involved with his art in the final year of his WorldTour career and how cycling was no longer bringing him fulfillment. He explains why he's chosen to stay in the cycling mecca of Girona even though he isn't racing anymore, and how he's grown to prefer aspects of Europe that he used to find challenging. They discuss what it's like to still be in the realm of WorldTour racing as he supports his partner, Kasia, who rides for Canyon–SRAM, and how professional women's racing is so different from men's. They also talk about music, art, starting fires, and his obsession with handlebars. Instagram: @theadventurestache
In the November episode of The Cycling Podcast Féminin, Rose Manley, Orla Chennaoui and Lizzy Banks talk transfers. With a number of high profile riders swapping teams, The Cycling Podcast team discuss the mechanics behind the moves and how they might change the face of racing next year. Drawing particular attention is the official arrival of Zoe Backstedt on to the Women's World Tour. The 18 year old is the first rider to ever hold four World Championship titles across four different disciplines at the same time. She speaks to Orla about her imperious year and her goals for the forthcoming season when she'll join Lizzy at EF Education-TIBCO-SVB. Zoe will not only be racing against her sister Elynor (Trek-Segafredo) next year but will also be looking to beat her dad Magnus too. The former Paris-Roubaix champion will be taking up a place in the Canyon SRAM race car as their new directeur sportif Magnus chats to Orla about his ambitions to steer a competitive and popular Canyon SRAM team towards much needed winning ways. We also hear from one of Canyon SRAM's recent departures – Ella Harris – who gives an honest appraisal of her time with the team. The New Zealand rider speaks to Lizzy about her progression from the Zwift Academy and looks to the future with her move to Le Col Wahoo. This week's episode of the Nerd Alert podcast is certainly a special one. Dave Rome and Ronan Mc Laughlin chat with the newly crowned Hour World Record Holder, Dan Bigham. Prior to besting Victor Campanaerts' 2019 World Record, the British track cyclist was best known for his work in aerodynamic engineering. He's worked with Mercedes F1, Canyon-SRAM, Team KGF/ HUUB-Wattbike, and Jumbo-Visma, and is currently a performance engineer with the Ineos Grenadiers. He also happens to be the brains behind the WattShop. With such a resume in tech backed by a world-beating engine, it was well overdue that Dan joined us as a special guest on the podcast. Here we chat about the things he's allowed to discuss related to his Hour Record, we touch on the things he's not allowed to discuss, and plenty more.
Fresh off pro racing in Europe on the road this summer, Coach Ricky Arnopol joined five of his Project Echelon teammates at SBT GRVL, the big gravel race in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. On this episode, Ricky and show cohost Ben Delaney talk about the similarities and differences between the two styles of racing in terms of tactics, power numbers, stress, and fun. There are four distances at SBT GRVL, and Ben won the 100-mile Blue course in the men's division, with Tiffany Cromwell of Canyon-SRAM taking the women's Blue title. Keegan Swenson and Lauren De Crescenzo won the 140-mile Black race that Ricky participated in. You can see Ben's power file and analysis up on fascatcoaching.com now. The whole FasCat team who attended SBT GRVL had a great time, so much so that we have even bigger plans for 2023, when we hope that you can join us in Steamboat for long weekend. Further, we are cooking up an SBT gravel training camp for next year, likely in June. Check out www.fascatcoaching.com and use code 25PODCAST for 25% off.
